[Bug 306490] Re: XF86Mail is identical to suspend keyboard shortcut

2008-12-09 Thread Mary Gardiner

** Attachment added: My term.log, showing recent changes to my system
   http://launchpadlibrarian.net/20320147/term.log

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

On my laptop, at some level well below anything I can control through
GNOME Control Center programs, Fn+Esc is bound to suspend-to-RAM. I use
  this shortcut frequently.

  Actual behaviour:
Starting today (although I have not upgraded any relevant packages that I can
tell, my recent /var/log/apt/term.log is attached) it has also begun launching
a mail client just before suspending (specifically, it is trying to launch mutt
in a gnome-terminal, per my Preferred Applications setting, this actually ends
up not working, probably because the suspend is underway, but I don't really
care about the ability to simultaneously launch mutt *and* suspend-to-RAM).

t turns out this keybinding is also the one called 'XF86Mail', in
'Keyboard shortcuts' 'Launch email client' was set to 'XF86Mail'. If I
unset it, the attempt to launch mutt on every suspend stops.

  Expected behaviour:

- A keybinding I have become accustomed to using 20 or more times a day
- should not suddenly start launching an email client.
+ Suspend-to-RAM without starting mutt. A keybinding I have become
+ accustomed to using 20 or more times a day should not suddenly start
+ launching an email client.

[Bug 306490] Re: XF86Mail is identical to suspend keyboard shortcut

2008-12-09 Thread Andrew Bennetts
I think maybe there's several distinct bugs here.

On my Dell Inspiron 630m (From Australia, has US keyboard afaik), Fn+Esc
is also reported as XF86Mail rather than as the suspend key. showkey at
a text vt says that Fn+Esc is keycode 142. That's one bug.

I also have Mutt as my Mail Reader in the Preferred Applications in
Gnome. If I set Launch email client to Ctrl+Alt+M (I usually have it
disabled) and then hit that key combo, I get a blank gnome-terminal and
a dialog saying There was an error creating the child process for this
terminal. That's a separate bug I think.

Finally, there's the bug that caused hitting suspend to try perform the
Launch email client action, which started affecting Mary today. I
have no idea what might suddenly cause that.

[Bug 305664] Re: gnome-terminal keyboard shortcuts don't allow change

2008-12-09 Thread Ridgeland
My bad.
In Ubuntu 7.04 to change the keyboard shortcut for Action Copy you can click on
the word Copy and it asks for the new shortcut. In Ubuntu 8.10 if you click
on Copy nothing. I finally discovered that now the user cannot click on
Copy but must click on the shortcut key field. The bug is just that changing
the user interface created confusion.
I did test with two new users. Both work now that I know the new method.
Thanks Pedro.

It surprises me that the bug is being closed because it doesn't carry

As I was explaining above, the bug I submitted isn't about epiphany

[Bug 75324] Re: Gnome file chooser/selector is way to small

2008-12-09 Thread dinhtrung
We can have a work around for this situation.
Install Compiz config settings, and use 2 more plugins: Place Windows and
Window Rules.
- On Window Rules, choose the Size Rule tab.
-- Add a new rule with this settings:
 Sized Windows: type=dialog
 X size and Y size about 800x600

- On Place Windows, choose Fixed Window Placement:
-- Add a Windows with Fixed position:
-- type=dialog
-- XY position : 150 x 200 (please choose as you like, but test carefully.
I still don't get what is the best position in this settings).

After these steps, whenever I open a dialog like Save, Save as, Open,
etc, the window will be placed center of the screen, and the dimension
are 800x600. Don't know if this will cause any issue.

1. There is unexpected behaviour using (nautilus + gvfsd-sftp).

[Bug 305839] Re: Watch Movies and music without hangs

2008-12-09 Thread KRS
 Is this reproducible?

Yes

If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?

1 Get the Elephants Dream movie at http://orange.blender.org/download (take the
480p h264/aac audio to ensure it can be played on a 5 years old system)
2 If required, install the needed gstreamers plug in to play the movie
3 play the movie in Totem, place the windows in a corner of the screen (or on
your second screen if available)
4 open a nautilus window
5 you will notice frames drops in the movie during the opening of nautilus
6 if not, browse your hard disk, hit refresh button, your movie will stutters

To continue the experiment :

- renice the totem process to -10
- set ionice of totem to -c1
- go to step 4

You can replace Totem by Xine, Mplyer or VLC.
I will open a new bug report for Smplayer because this player is specially
affected.

'Keyboard shortcuts' 'Launch email client' was set to 'XF86Mail'. If I
unset it, the attempt to launch mutt on every suspend stops.

Expected behaviour:

Suspend-to-RAM without starting mutt. A keybinding I have become
accustomed to using 20 or more times a day should not suddenly start
launching an email client.

[Bug 306557] [NEW] won't open an http uri

2008-12-09 Thread Brian J. Murrell
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Release: Intrepid, x86 (i.e. 32bit)

Maybe this is a PEBKAC and I'm just expecting things to be too
intuitive, but trying something as simple as:

totem http://site/path/to/video.mp4

doesn't actually stream and play the video. Totem reports:

$ totem http://site/path/to/video.mp4

It would appear that totem is stripping off the http://site portion of
the URI and expecting the file to exist locally.

The culprit is almost certainly vmware. I've had lots of messing with my
keyboard problems with it in the past. A quick Google for vmware
keyboard issue will find other examples.

[Bug 287542] Re: vinagre crash with BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation) when I try to connect to VNC server

2008-12-09 Thread Matt Hulse
I am getting this same crash on Intrepid. It was working fine and then
all of the sudden everytime I connect, the app just closes. If I run
vinagre from the command line I get exactly the same output as macro182.
I don't remember upgrading anything that would have broken this. It was
working with a clean install of Intrepid so I assume it was an update
that broke it. Very annoying. Now I'm stuck using xvnc4viewer so no
saved sessions and handy interface. Please give me my vinagre back! :(

[Bug 197762] Re: file transfer on USB disk slows down with gvfs

2008-12-09 Thread Vinicius Seixas
I want to confirm the problem and add some info that I did not see here:

1 - Problem occurs not only with usb/ehci-hcd, using a internal card reader
(sdhci-pci) results in same slowdown
2 - It is not dependent on file-system: same speed with ext3 or vfat
3 - The problem is random, sometimes it is very slow ( 1MB/s) and sometimes
just slow (~2 MB/s)
4 - Using pci=routeirq AND noapic seems to increase speed a for smaller files
(10MB/s with a 300MB file and 1MB/s with a 700MB file)
4.1) I tried both boot configs separated and nothing changed
4.2) I did not repeat tests extensively to be sure this is a consistent or
random behavior
5 - No relevant dmesg messages loading modules and during or after transfer

I don't know how those data transfers are ran by the kernel, but it
seems to be a very low-level problem.

My system:

$ uname -a
Linux xxx 2.6.27-10-generic #1 SMP Fri Nov 21 19:19:18 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux

The hardware is a ATI SB600 for USB and Ricoh R5C822 for card readers.

I can supply any other info you need and if there is a way to debug
this, just give me some guidance and I can do this job...

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be
dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 306575] [NEW] output.pdf in Print Layout Diagram should be called LAYOUT_NAME.pdf

2008-12-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

In Gnome keyboard layout manager a user can print a keyboard layout
diagram using the Print Layout Diagram button.

In general i think that the name of the button should be changed and the
preference should be to show the diagram on the screen and have an
option to print it out (See Bug #306571 )

But in the meantime, here's a small suggestion for improvement. The
layout can be printed to a file (confusing terminology - it would be
better called saved to a file). The default file name is output.pdf.
This is too generic. It should be called LAYOUT_NAME.pdf. For example,
if the current keyboard layout is Spanish (Spain), then the default
file name should be Spanish_(Spain).pdf.

[Bug 306591] [NEW] Locale settings not respected in GNOME session

2008-12-09 Thread Andrew Conkling
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome

(Sorry about the package, not sure if this would be gnome-settings-
daemon or something else?)

Originally posted on the forums:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6287235.

I want to manually control my LC_TIME settings independent of my LANG,
so I...

1. Added 'export LC_TIME=en_DK.UTF-8' (sans quotes) to my ~/.bashrc and my
~/.zshrc. (I use ZSH as my shell, but it didn't work if I switched to Bash
either.)
2. Start an application from GNOME Terminal or Run (e.g. `zenity --calendar`,
`date`): locale setting is used.
3. Start an application from the GNOME Panel, look at the Panel's date applet,
etc.: locale setting is not used.

Workaround: append 'LC_TIME=en_DK.UTF-8' (sans quotes) to
/etc/environment, and the setting is used by all applications, no matter
how they are launched. (Thanks to Brucevdk on the forum for the tip!)

So it would seem that user-set locale settings are not being picked up
by GNOME properly.

I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 with GNOME 2.24 (gnome-settings-daemon 2.24.0-0ubuntu3.3).
(This is possibly related to bug 68938, but that's old and closed, so I'm
creating this new one rather than resurrecting that one.)

[Bug 306571] [NEW] Print Layout Diagram should be changed to Show Layout Diagram

2008-12-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Keyboard layout manager in Gnome has a button called Print Layout
Diagram.

It is wrong to assume that a user will want to print his keyboard layout
on paper all the time. If the button is called Print, the user may
think that his printer will immediately start to print it; what if he
just wants to check how to type a certain letter and is afraid of
wasting paper or toner?

Instead, this button should be called Show Layout Diagram.

It is possible currently to show the diagram on screen by printing it to
a file and then opening the file. This is very confusing. It makes a lot
more sense to show it on screen by default and have an option to print
it.

[Bug 306596] [NEW] exif data removed from tif

2008-12-09 Thread Alex Lubberts
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gimp

Hi,

After opening a tif-image file with exif information in gimp, editing the
image, and saving the image as a tif-file, all exif data is lost. (With

I'm using gimp 2.6.1-1ubuntu3 on ubuntu 8.10.

[Bug 287542] Re: vinagre crash with BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation) when I try to connect to VNC server

2008-12-09 Thread Matt Hulse
Thanks for the suggestions but neither one did anything for me. I even
tried purging and reinstalling. My bookmarks were still intact after
all of that so I'm not completely confident that all the configuration
files were purged. Any other ideas?

I am on vinagre 2.24.1-0ubuntu1 in Intrepid.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ vinagre 192.168.241.9
The program 'vinagre' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)'.
  (Details: serial 349 error_code 1 request_code 158 minor_code 19)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Nope, you understood me exactly correctly. What output do you get from
totem when you run this? The above fails exactly as I posted before and
the totem output is:

Interestingly, on another Intrepid box I have here it does work. I'm
not sure what the difference is between them however. I've installed
all of the same gstreamer0.10 packages on both and still no joy.

Any ideas?

[Bug 306528] Re: rhythmbox se cierra al insertar un cd de audio

2008-12-09 Thread Pedro Villavicencio

[Bug 287811] Re: Emptying Trash Fails with 'Error while expunging folder'

2008-12-09 Thread Neil Woolford
I'm still stuck with a deleted items folder that cannot be emptied,
causing the Summary and folder mismatch error.

I first tried removing all the ev-summary files, which don't get
recreated, confirming MiiJaySung's suggestion that they are now outdated
and unused with the move to a different database engine (sqlite?).
However, removing index, cmeta and index.data files didn't solve the
problem for me. Evolution did spend quite some time indexing on startup
and reinstated these latter files but is still giving the same mismatch
error. Does anyone know of any other files (or well hidden ones?) that
also need to be removed?

For now Evolution still works for me, but I can't empty the Deleted
Items. One day I'll want to do that...

Neil

Evolution 2.24.2 on Intrepid Ibex.
