[Bug 311880] [NEW] Brasero reports ISO standard as having gender. [typo]
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: brasero In Intrepid Ibex, I was trying to burn a ISO file when I got this: Do you really want to add A Christmas Story.ISO to the selection and use the third version of ISO9660 standard to support it? The size of the file is over 2 GiB. This isn't supported by ISO9660 standard in his first and second versions (the most widespread ones). It is recommended to use the third version of ISO9660 standard which is supported by most of the operating systems including Linux and all versions of Windows ©. A known exception is MacOS X that can't read images created with version 3 of ISO9660 standard. Notice this sentence: This isn't supported by ISO9660 standard in his first and second versions (the most widespread ones). standard in his first Hehe, I didn't know the ISO standard was a boy. [Bug 311494] [NEW] Hibernation and suspend do not work properly in Lenovo Ideapad Y530
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Ubuntu 8.10 with all upgrades. Laptop Lenovo Ideapad Y530 During suspend to disk the screen switches to text mode with text similar to: NOHZ: local_softirq_pending 100 ata1: exception Emask 0x10 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x9 t4 ata1: irq_stat 0x00400040, connection status changed ata2: exception Emask 0x10 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x9 t4 ata2: irq_stat 0x00400040, connection status changed Then nothing happens and the laptop remains powered-up. After manual power-down and reboot the system correctly and nicely wakes up from the hibernation. Therefore, the hibernation can be achieved, but not in the right way. On the same machine suspend to RAM results in a blank screen in a text mode. After manual power-down and restart the system does not wake up, but the usual reboot happens. [Bug 311494] Re: Hibernation and suspend do not work properly in Lenovo Ideapad Y530
Thank you for taking the time to submit this bug report. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing. The first thing to check is that the swap partition is 2x the size of the RAM. This is necessary for suspend to disk to work. I have seen this page recommended for Lenevo's with suspend to Disk/RAM problems. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/NvidiaLaptopBinaryDriverSuspend If the problem persists I would recommend starting a thread in the forums 'Hardware Laptops' section. There are quite a few Lenovo users in the forum and they are very helpful. http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=135 Here is the link to the Lenovo forum Linux section. http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board?board.id=Special_Interest_Linux Here are some threads about Lenovo issues in the Ubuntu forum. [Bug 285815] Re: Backlight keeps getting darker on MacBookPro
So it seems to be reading quite low Yes, this is the experience on several models: MBA11 and MBP41 fall into the same category as your MBP51. The readings are low, but the full span 0-255 is actually used, which can be seen when exposing the sensor for extreme light. The real problem seems to be that neither the kernel nor gnome is equipped to handle sensor readings with such a large dynamic range. For instance, the hal interface used by g-p-m is far too course- grained, only allowing integer percentage values. is this something specific to the applesmc driver on MBP 5,1 At least on my MBA11, the behavior is precisely the same. [Bug 195630] Re: Can't change permissions on a folder with nautilus.
For me it's a problem right now - I'm copying all files from an NTFS storage partition to a new ext3 Partition on a new HDD. I found one folder '180 Canon' with photographs inside, no thumnails. Right clicking gives permissions 'Owner: root FolderAccess: Create and Delete files FileAccess: -' Next 'group: root' and 'others'. Now logging in to launch 'Rootilus' should mean from this properties dialogue - running with root priviledge, I am the owner and can click the tab to change 'Group: root' to something else - but it changes back to root. [Bug 137247] Re: libpam-keyring broken on autologins
I experience this problem in Intrepid. To reproduce: 1. assume you've got a fully installed Ubuntu Intrepid 2. set up your wireless internet to connect to your encrypted access point 3. make sure your login keyring (or default keyring) has a password, and set it to unlock automatically on login 4. set your user up to autologin 5. REBOOT your machine 6. just after you're autologged in, you'll be asked for a password to unlock the default keyring AFAICT, the reason it happens is: Gnome's keyring auto-unlocker uses your login password to unlock the default keyring (if the passwords match). So when you login with a password, everything works fine. However, when you autologin, you don't type your password, so the auto- unlocker isn't able to use it to unlock the keyring. It's not immediately obvious how to solve this securely. But I don't think we should ignore this or treat it as a feature, because a) anyone who sets up to autologin obviously doesn't want to type in a password, so it defeats the purpose of autologin, b) it encourages people to set up their default keyring with an empty password, which is insecure. (This is what I've done!) Tchalvak, I disagree that wireless passwords are a security non-issue. I think they are an issue -- if people get access to my wireless access point, then they can steal all my bandwidth. They may even be able to sniff my traffic, I'm not sure. However, you're right: the convenience of automatically connecting to a network outweighs the security issues for most people. -- libpam-keyring broken on autologins https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/137247 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 246261] Re: Evolution receiving old emails
Hi, Evolution 2.24.2, Ubuntu 8.10, 2.6.27-9-generic It happened to me twice. Along with other reported bug that evolution does not delete messages from server after specified number of days for me it resulted in downloading again about 32000 emails from my account. I don't know how to reproduce it. It just happened second time in about 3 months period. Only strange thing I experience that may be related is that I'm using VPN from time to time, and it may happen that sometimes I turn it on or off when evolution is downloading. I realized that if connection is broken in some circumstances fetching of emails form server hangs. Consequently pidgin hangs as well. Both programs stay in not responding state and I have to kill all evolution related processes and start it again to get it working. I'm not sure if this is related to messages being downloaded again. [Bug 190848] Re: font in terminal does not resemble font in preview
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome- terminal/+bug/190848/comments/40 vte uses xft for font backend, while others uses pango. Yes, and Pango uses cairo. The problem does not appear with cairo, because fontconfig settings sometimes do not get respected in cairo due to https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11838 which causes other problems, reported in bug 200707, bug 209256, and bug 293643. This may be a bug of xft, which doesn't follow xsetting. libXft was the original library that effectively defines the interaction of fontconfig and Xft X resource settings. IMO it is a bug that cairo does not emulate this behavior consistently. -- font in terminal does not resemble font in preview https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/190848 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 190848] Re: font in terminal does not resemble font in preview
In reply to comment 45: Mikael: xterm is not a GNOME program, True, but ... therefore I'm not surprised it doesn't follow the GNOME font rendering settings. ... last I checked, GNOME settings cause Xft X server resource database properties to be set, and so should have an effect on xterm behavior unless overridden by fontconfig settings. The bug here is that system fontconfig settings are always overriding settings from Xft X resources. The upstream bug is https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17722, but upstream fontconfig does not install these problem files by default. The problem only appears when the distribution installs the 10-* links in /etc/fonts/conf.d/. ** Also affects: fontconfig via https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17722 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- font in terminal does not resemble font in preview https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/190848 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 190848] Re: font in terminal does not resemble font in preview
I suggest that the best fix is to modify the system fontconfig settings, so that they become defaults rather than always overriding settings already present in the pattern. This would include changing 10-no-sub-pixel.conf from match target=font edit name=rgba mode=assignconstnone/const/edit /match to match target=font test name=rgba qual=allconstunknown/const/test edit name=rgba mode=assignconstnone/const/edit /match and changing 10-hinting-medium.conf from match target=font edit name=hintstyle mode=assignconsthintmedium/const/edit /match to something like match target=font test name=hintstyle qual=allint-1/int/test edit name=hintstyle mode=assignconsthintmedium/const/edit /match There are other files that should also be changed similarly. [Bug 285323] Re: Losing keyboard and mouse control when changing screen brightness with fn + arrow under intrepid
Hi everybody, There has been no further discussion from anyone for a little while; new posts seem to repeat the existing bug description. I am surprised that such a long bug report hasn't be acted upon promptly, although the fix is easy to make (albeit being a dirty workaround): This dire situation we are having with Dell laptops can be easily fixed if the patch proposed in comment #142 is incorporated into the current file atkbd.c in the Linux kernel, by adding an additional record in the atkbd_dmi_quirk_table[] array using the second commonly-found DMI string match: Dell Computer Corporation, in addition to the Dell Inc. string. This is dirty indeed, as we have two records of similar things. But this would get rid of the problem for virtually all Dell users. Could one of the Ubuntu developers do this for us, please? The recent gnome power manager is not fixing the problem either. -- Losing keyboard and mouse control when changing screen brightness with fn + arrow under intrepid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/285323 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
