[Bug 309866] Re: PCX file format not supported

2008-12-30 Thread Bryan Quigley
What program created the PCX file you have attached?

I was able to open the file w/ GIMP and then resaved it as a PCX file
and now everything else can read it. That seems odd, not entirely sure
what's causing the issue yet. Random PCX files on the internet gThumb &
others seem to be able to open fine.

[Bug 102921] Re: Moving the mouse cursor over the gnome-system-monitor temporarily causes network and disk usage to become zero

2008-12-30 Thread Kendrick
What I don't understand is how it can say something like 50% network in
use. If I'm on a 100MBps lan does that mean I am moving 50MBps. No,
certainly not. It could be an issue of scaling the graph. Maybe when you
mouse over the applet it looks back at what your capacity and usage is
and makes the graph of that. So we would likely see near zero percent.
Otherwise maybe it looks at peak traffic information and scales from
there, 50% of peak network usage. I think my main question is how does
it know how tall to make the graph of network usage given that I never
have even approached 100% of my network's capacity.

Please try printing with other GTK+ apps like GEdit or Firefox - this
shouldn't work if this is a GTK+ bug, like it was reported on the blog
post above. There's a kind of workaround on that page.

ethanay: maybe the fix came from a newer kernel than the one you're
using. You should report a bug for your suspend/hibernate problems, it
is specific to your hardware. Could you also check with an older kernel,
since you say it has reappeared? Finding the version/patch that brought

Hi. It is still a problem. Long time I looked at it, but as I remember I

All the other plugins have .totem-plugin file which I
believe describes the plugin to totem, and that is why it doesn't turn

[Bug 312391] Re: Evolution crashed on cahnge mail account settings

2008-12-30 Thread Nicolas Quenouille
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 311860] Re: Auto-hibernate due to inactivity results in a resumed session with hanged gnome-power-manager preventing the system from entering hibernate again

2008-12-30 Thread jasonwc
WORKAROUND:

This issue doesn't arise if the system uses uswsusp rather than the
kernel's method of hibernation. So, the fix is to force gnome-power-
management to use s2disk rather than the kernel method. This is fairly
simple to do:

Download the attached script "hal-system-power-hibernate-linux"

sudo apt-get install uswsusp
sudo s2disk##Test to see if s2disk works. CAUTION: make sure data is
saved for this test!

sudo mv /usr/lib/hal/scripts/linux/hal-system-power-hibernate-linux
/usr/lib/hal/scripts/linux/hal-system-power-hibernate-linux.backup
sudo cp hal-system-* /usr/lib/hal/scripts/linux/
sudo chmod 755 /usr/lib/hal/scripts/linux/*

Now, gnome-power-manager should use s2disk to hibernate fixing my
reported issue.

Note: I found these instructions from
http://blog.paulbetts.org/index.php/2007/02/11/fixing-software-suspend-
hibernate-with-uswsusp-in-ubuntu-feisty-and-edgy/#comment-17671. The
only change I made was to modify the script to reflect the location of
the s2disk binary in Ubuntu 8.10.

[Bug 312418] [NEW] doesn't refresh automatically on duplicating a file

2008-12-30 Thread Samuel thibault
Public bug reported:

When I use Edit->duplicate to make a copy of an image, a new file is
created, but it doesn't appear automatically in gthumb, I have to type
Ctrl-R to make it show up. In the filer, it does show up automatically,
so I guess I have the proper daemon running (gamin). Maybe gthumb just
needs to hook into the proper directory alteration gnome notification?

Re: [Bug 309866] Re: PCX file format not supported

2008-12-30 Thread KRK
Hi Bryan,
The files are converted from an early version of hppcl to pcx by a batch
conversion program that runs in dos, it's ancient and I no longer
remember where the two .exe files came from to do this, (possibly Orcad)
I wrote a batch file to string them together back then.. (I've been
using them for nearly 20yrs) The files are output from Orcad3 schematic
capture. These files have always opened in every windows based viewer I
have ever used and actually open fine in Gimp as well. I had not even
considered the possibility that these files had some attribute that made
them non compliant with the pcx file format. I could look for a recent
windows based file converter and see if that produces files that are
readable. In the meantime I will resave a couple of these files in gimp
and see if gthumb can then read them. One other possibility is that they
are normally stored on a dos partition (fat32), but this hasn't caused a
problem with jpgs or anything else that I am aware of.

I would be happy to send you the batch file and exe configured to run in
dosbox if you are interested, but I wonder if that would be useful at all.

Regards, Kevin

[Bug 11334] Re: Copy-Paste doesn't work if the source is closed before the paste

2008-12-30 Thread Patrick Roberts
See my comment here for a much longer comment:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/firefox/+bug/21202/comments/37

Sorry for kicking this thread with that previous comment, but in my
opinion it's ridiculous there's still no working copy/paste function in
Linux, after all those years. In my opinion it's way more important to
have a working copy/paste function, instead of (for instance) some new
way to notificate users. The current notifications already work,
copy/paste doesn't work like it has to work. Let's first fix all of
those bugs, instead of adding new features and improving thing that
already work without problems.

[Bug 147298] Re: [Gutsy] AD198x Analog: microphone misconfigured

2008-12-30 Thread Turion
I had the same problem and solved it somehow:
I added in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base (open with root access) following line at
the bottom:

options snd-atiixp model=hp position_fix=1 enable=yes

After restarting, the internal microphone as well as the plugged one worked
exactly how you expect them to work.
I'm not completely shure why this works, so handle with care, probably it's not
the optimal solution, but for me it worked.

[Bug 312459] [NEW] Intrepid: can't remove/move to trash files on removable media (UMS/USB digital audio player)

2008-12-30 Thread mlaverdiere
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Using 2 UMS digital audio players (DAP - Iaudio 7 & Samsung YP-S3) with
2 different laptops, with Rhythmbox, versions 0.11.6 (on Intrepid) and
0.11.5 (on Hardy), here's what I'm experiencing:

The 2 DAP shows up correctly in Rhythmbox and I can move files on them
with both system. The problem is that with Rhythmbox on the Intrepid
laptop, the options "remove" and "move to trash" (my translation from
French) are greyed out in the contextual menu related to a file on a
DAP. So basically, with the Intrepid laptop, I can't delete files on
the DAP using Rhythmbox, while I can with Nautilus (or any other file
manager or the command line). I'm not experiencing this problem with
the Hardy laptop,

that doesn't allow to continue the loading process of this program.

I've installed Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex for PowerPC on a Apple iBook. I

[Bug 312475] [NEW] Can receive mail but not able to send

2008-12-30 Thread rsm...@rushmore.com
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I receive my mail just fine as far as I can see. But anything I 'send' ends up
in the outbox and stays there. Nothing I can do causes it to actually send.
Not sure of my version of Ubunto but upgraded when the newest came out.

This happened a couple of years ago but when I emptied the 'outbox' it
seemed to be better. This problem occurred over this past weekend. I
have emptied my outbox and tried again to send only to have my one email
still sitting there.

[Bug 312501] [NEW] sometimes gnome-settings-daemon fails to start after login

2008-12-30 Thread zorblek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

I'm running Ubuntu Intrepid, with gnome-settings-daemon
2.24.0-0ubuntu3.3.

Sometimes when I log into Gnome, either after booting up or returning
from 'Suspend', gnome-settings-daemon fails to start. There is no error
message that I can see; I only know it isn't running because whatever
theme I happen to be using is replaced with an ugly default. If I then
start it from the command line it runs with no problem and my theme
displays as normal. There are no errors or anything displayed on the
command line.

As far as I can tell, there is no particular pattern to when this
happens. I'd guess it happens something like 1 in 4 or 5 times I log in.
If there's any more information I can give you, let me know. Thanks!

ProblemType: Bug

[Bug 44756] Re: Calculator wont turn on "Thousands Separator".

2008-12-30 Thread dirk
I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 / gcalctool 5.24.1 as well and it doesn't work. It is
very irritating when working with larger numbers. And Kcalc is fine but
consumes much memory with all KDE's libraries it is using.
Judging from the number of times the thousands separator issue comes up in
/usr/share/doc/gcalctool/NEWS.gz, I believe the code could use some work.

[Bug 273142] Re: screensaver won't release with mouse movement

2008-12-30 Thread Bartek Celary
Confirmed. Same here - since the hardy update.

Does everyone here did an update or a fresh install? Was the user
profile recreated? I have 2 users on my pc and one of them does not have
this problem. I tried changing some screen saver related settings, but
this did not seem to work. It looks that this is related to some setting
somehow.

BTW, I am using a blank screen saver - no fancy gl stuff.

[Bug 312511] [NEW] Master channel fails in Ubuntu 8.10

2008-12-30 Thread Antonio
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-volume-manager

Ubuntu 8.10 just installed in HP Compaq nx6110, audio card Intel
Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) AC'97 Audio Controller
(rev 03).

Setting master channel to 0% does not completely silence (very low
sound, but not silence) unless PCM is also set to 0% (or muted). In the
same way, setting 0% on PCM does not completely silence unless Master is
also at 0% or muted. Muting on both channels is working.

Tried mostly with Device Intel ICH6 (Alsa mixer), but also happens with
the others.

This did not happen in a previous installation of Kubuntu 8.10 in this
same laptop.

This is the only issue with sound I have detected in my installation up
to now, the rest is working fine.
