[Bug 312379] Re: Whacked out battery readings actually shutting laptop down
Running 8.10 on Toshiba Satellite a135-s4527. Same thing here: Thought i needed a new battery but the problem comes and goes. Sometimes i'll only get 30 minutes run and it will shut down and other times it will last the full charge of a little better than an hour. Even when it does last the full charge, gnome power manager reports 118,000 hours and 50 minutes left . . . and i'm pretty sure that's not right. -- Whacked out battery readings actually shutting laptop down https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/312379 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 239886] [NEW] Some sound buttons control PCM, changing master volumes has no effect
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I have the similar problem as some people who have already submitted bugs, I'm unsure if this is actually a dupe or not (better to be safe?). I just got a Gateway P-6860FX laptop. The volume change buttons effect PCM, instead of master. The volume goes up and down and I successfully get a box showing the volume. In my case, this seems to be good because if I mute or change the volume to the master channel, I continue to hear sound at whatever PCM's volume level is set at. My mute button seems to have no effect. When I hit the mute button, I do get a "mute on" and "mute off" message. The mixer window does NOT show any channel being muted. I started off by putting Hardy on this laptop, so I have no idea if the bug has been recently introduced or not. I had these problems right ouf of the box. I haven't found an upstream bug about this, and I'm not sure if we should be the ones submitting it or the ubuntu package maintainer. I have been searching for a way to write a serial number to the battery so it will be reported by acpi, but so far I haven't found a way to do this nor I have found if it's even possible. After much thinking about the correct way to identify uniquely between various batteries I'm convinced that the correct way would be to be able to write a serial number if the battery hasn't one. [Bug 288584] Re: DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply
Hi the error message is as follows: "DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken." What happens is that I insert CD into the drive - a Sony DRU-840A ATAPI/EIDE internal DVD-rom - and eventually the above error message appears. A couple of seconds later, the CD mounts anyway, allowing me to access it as per expectation. I would assume the answer would be to extend the timeout ? Sistofe: sorry for the dup, but as ethanay was the only person still reporting problems with this bug and this one was already quite long, I thought it would be easier to continue the discussion here. This is not fixed in intrepid for me. It is however sensitive to the zoom level. In xournal, maximize by clicking the "set zoom" button, then select "page height". The bug I see is that drawn lines appear a long time behind the stylus, and the bug gets worse as you move toward the lower right corner of the screen. Try drawing quick strokes in the upper left and lower right, and compare how long it takes for the stroke to appear on the screen. I have 2.20.1.1-1ubuntu3 on intrepid. I recompiled by hand, removing the 90_upstream_correctly_update.patch, and the bug disappears. I can find no drawing errors Note that the bugs reported in the original report above are still present with the intrepid package, and also disappear when I remove the 90_upstream_correctly_update.patch. Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. [Bug 312238] Re: No audio from Rhythmbox 0.11.6
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems. http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Bug 312692] [NEW] Launching gnome-terminal on start up, no title bar appears
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-terminal When I set gnome-terminal to launch on start-up via Sessions Preferences in the System menu of Ubuntu 8.04 gnome-terminal appears in the top- right corner of the desktop without the title bar which normally appears. The title bar has a Window Menu that pops up when you click on the Terminal icon on the left and with minimize, unmaximize, and close window buttons on the right. The gnome-terminal cannot be moved when it appears without the title bar. The title bar always appears when I manually launch gnome-terminal after start up. [Bug 312687] [NEW] application/postscript mimetype is mistaken for another mimetype by document viewer or okular
Public bug reported: In Ubuntu 8.10 (upgraded from a correctly functioning 8.04), when trying to open a .ps file from Nautilus (or the command line) with Evince or Okular, I get the following error : (with Evince) : Filetype matlab script/function is not supported (text/x-matlab) is not supported and it fails to open the file. When commenting out the matlab entry in the freedesktop xml file in /usr/share/mime , the same error appears but with a tex mimetype instead of the matlab mimetype. I checked thoroughly all the entries related to matlab and postscript in /usr/share/mime , and everything seems to be in order. I also regenerated the mimetype with the command ''update-mime-database /usr/share/mime'' several times, to no avail. Attached is a screenshot showing the error in Evince, as well as the file properties from Nautilus (demonstrating that the mimetype associated with .ps files is correct outside of Evince) ** Affects: evince (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- application/postscript mimetype is mistaken for another mimetype by document viewer or okular https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/312687 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evince in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 202089] Re: Pulseaudio is blocking normal sound after resume
I, too have been experiencing this bug with Ubuntu Intrepid. Jsteinhart's fix appears to partially fix the problem. Before installing the fix, when I attempted to play a flash video after a suspend cycle it would play for a few seconds then stop, with no sound. When I switched over to a console and back, the video would then resume and sounds would play as normal. Now that I have installed the fix, flash videos don't stop after a few seconds. They continue to play, but I still don't get any sound from them (or anything else). When I switch back from a console, the video will pause in the middle of playback while all of the audio that i missed plays, then it will resume from where I left off. In any event, I still don't get any other sounds (with or without the fix) until I switch to and from a console.
