[Bug 260997] Re: Text copied from Evince is wrong
"Print to PDF" in GNOME has nothing to do with CUPS and Ghostscript. GNOME does not send any thing to CUPS but it generates the PDF by itself. So an update of libgnomeprint, libcairo, or libgtk has most probably introduced the fix. Note that PDFs once generated are broken, re-rendering with evince does not fix them. ** Changed in: libgnomeprint (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged => Fix Released -- Text copied from Evince is wrong https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/260997 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to libgnomeprint in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

This seems to have been fixed now. I can 'print' a PDF (for example this page) and select text, then paste it into Gedit and the text is pasted correctly. Unfortunately I'm not positive when it was fixed: the only updates that seems might have effected it are the following, which I upgraded on Jan 3rd. cups (1.3.9-2ubuntu4) to 1.3.9-2ubuntu6 cups-bsd (1.3.9-2ubuntu4) to 1.3.9-2ubuntu6 cups-client (1.3.9-2ubuntu4) to 1.3.9-2ubuntu6 cups-common (1.3.9-2ubuntu4) to 1.3.9-2ubuntu6 ghostscript (8.63.dfsg.1-0ubuntu6) to 8.63.dfsg.1-0ubuntu6.1 ghostscript-x (8.63.dfsg.1-0ubuntu6) to 8.63.dfsg.1-0ubuntu6.1 libcups2 (1.3.9-2ubuntu4) to 1.3.9-2ubuntu6 libcupsimage2 (1.3.9-2ubuntu4) to 1.3.9-2ubuntu6 Unfortunately, the original PDFs created with the older programs/libraries appear to be permanently corrupted, as they cannot be printed to the new PDF (copying gives even stranger characters than the original). [Bug 311615] [NEW] New chat windows unconditionally spawn in top left
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: pidgin Steps: open a chat window, move it, close it, then open another chat window Expected: the window would spawn in the same place as it was closed Observed: it spawns in the top left corner of the screen I updated to pidgin 2.5.2 a few days ago on Hardy and the symptom manifested itself. Before (with 2.4.1 I believe) the chat windows would correctly remember their position, and spawn in the bottom right of the screen (where I like them). Having to move every single new conversation over to the bottom right is, if the pun is excused, a drag. I am not running compiz; just plain metacity. The pidgin devs have indeicated at http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/7172 that they consider this a window manager issue and that they intentionally caused the regression by disabling the position-remembering code, which was what caused it to previously work. I have no idea whether metacity or some other already instealled tool is capable of doing this with metacity (some preliminary googling suggests not) or if re-enabling pidgin's position-remembering code is the best option. ** Affects: metacity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed -- New chat windows unconditionally spawn in top left https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/311615 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I am (in general) quite new to linux as I've just recently started trying to find bugs and randomly come upon them as I use linux day to day. I didn't know that xsane was responsible for /dev/video0 not working properly, if that is the case. In a side note I had to switch to another distribution since the latest updates were applied which caused the computer to halt suddenly and A LOT. I might switch back to 8.04 if I get bored with this distro. [Bug 316093] [NEW] gvfsd allocates huge amounts of memory while playing audio files
You have been subscribed to a public bug: This might be related to bug 195976 (where gvfsd is accused of crashing a machine). https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/195976 I have two screenshots of the system monitor, indicating the amount of memory gvfsd has allocated (292MB) and the amount of swap consumed (943MB). My system has 1.5GB of ram and the same swap, and I can reliably create this amount of swap being taken if my Sony Walkman MP3 player is connected for a couple of days and I listen to my music, the swap gets eaten. My issue is that I have to reboot (haven't tried logging out and in again) to release the swap space. I have tried to unmount the Walkman, but that doesn't change anything. [Bug 306161] Re: evolution crashed with SIGSEGV in g_closure_invoke()
It took a month to decide you needed a backtrace? First, you tell me to use apport because it gives you all the information you need, and then you say you don't have it all, and require a backtrace now. So tell me how exactly can I generate a backtrace because I don't know? Your first two contributions to this bug was removing something and marking it incomplete without any comment as to why it was incomplete. I don't call that very helpful in getting the problem resolved. Only later do you comment saying you require a backtrace?
