[Bug 260997] Re: Text copied from Evince is wrong

2009-01-11 Thread Till Kamppeter
"Print to PDF" in GNOME has nothing to do with CUPS and Ghostscript.
GNOME does not send any thing to CUPS but it generates the PDF by
itself. So an update of libgnomeprint, libcairo, or libgtk has most
probably introduced the fix.

Note that PDFs once generated are broken, re-rendering with evince does
not fix them.

[Bug 260997] Re: Text copied from Evince is wrong

2009-01-11 Thread Jamie Dimmel
This seems to have been fixed now. I can 'print' a PDF (for example this
page) and select text, then paste it into Gedit and the text is pasted
correctly.

Unfortunately I'm not positive when it was fixed: the only updates that
seems might have effected it are the following, which I upgraded on Jan
3rd.

cups (1.3.9-2ubuntu4) to 1.3.9-2ubuntu6
cups-bsd (1.3.9-2ubuntu4) to 1.3.9-2ubuntu6
cups-client (1.3.9-2ubuntu4) to 1.3.9-2ubuntu6
cups-common (1.3.9-2ubuntu4) to 1.3.9-2ubuntu6
ghostscript (8.63.dfsg.1-0ubuntu6) to 8.63.dfsg.1-0ubuntu6.1
ghostscript-x (8.63.dfsg.1-0ubuntu6) to 8.63.dfsg.1-0ubuntu6.1
libcups2 (1.3.9-2ubuntu4) to 1.3.9-2ubuntu6
libcupsimage2 (1.3.9-2ubuntu4) to 1.3.9-2ubuntu6

Unfortunately, the original PDFs created with the older
programs/libraries appear to be permanently corrupted, as they cannot be
printed to the new PDF (copying gives even stranger characters than the
original).

Thank you for fixing this. I would close this but I don't know how to go
about doing that.

Thanks,
Jamie Dimmel

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make

[Bug 316224] [NEW] Low battery power suspend inhibited by audio player

I was working on battery power, cutting things to the wire, and noticed
that when gnome-power-manager attempted to suspend my machine (to save

Clearly saving data / avoiding disk corruption is more important than

positions. We could change that policy, of course, but that's the
policy as it is at present.

2009-01-11 Thread Lupine
Actually, after talking over with some other members in #ubuntu-bugs

metacity and confirming. Sorry for the initial post, and thanks again

[Bug 316209] [NEW] Internet Radio - silence between songs

2009-01-11 Thread JerryH
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Trying to listen to the stream at
http://stations.loudcity.com/219/rfd.pls, rhythmbox goes silent whenever
a song changes. It still streams data from the site, but there is no
sound. If I wait for a few minutes, sometimes the sound comes back, but
then it stops after the song changes again. Other streams don't appear
to have this problem.

[Bug 311615] [NEW] New chat windows unconditionally spawn in top left

2009-01-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: pidgin

Steps: open a chat window, move it, close it, then open another chat window
Expected: the window would spawn in the same place as it was closed
Observed: it spawns in the top left corner of the screen

I updated to pidgin 2.5.2 a few days ago on Hardy and the symptom
manifested itself. Before (with 2.4.1 I believe) the chat windows would
correctly remember their position, and spawn in the bottom right of the
screen (where I like them). Having to move every single new conversation
over to the bottom right is, if the pun is excused, a drag. I am not
running compiz; just plain metacity.

The pidgin devs have indeicated at
http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/7172 that they consider this a window
manager issue and that they intentionally caused the regression by
disabling the position-remembering code, which was what caused it to
previously work. I have no idea whether metacity or some other already
instealled tool is capable of doing this with metacity (some preliminary
googling suggests not) or if re-enabling pidgin's position-remembering
code is the best option.

Thank you for marking it as duplicate. I am (in general) quite new to
linux as I've just recently started trying to find bugs and randomly
come upon them as I use linux day to day. I didn't know that xsane was
responsible for /dev/video0 not working properly, if that is the case.
In a side note I had to switch to another distribution since the latest
updates were applied which caused the computer to halt suddenly and A
LOT. I might switch back to 8.04 if I get bored with this distro.

That's not the pbuilder log I was asking for :)

What you should do is something along

$ sudo pbuilder build --logfile ~/pbuilder.log gst-plugins-
base0.10_0.10.21.2-1.dsc

And then attach pbuilder.log

BTW, a new version (0.10.21.3-1) has just been uploaded to Debian, you might
want to try that to see if it still fails to build.

Cheers

2009-01-11 Thread Yvon TANGUY

All is in the title!

For me, I can't use the spacebar in the search textbox.

The spacebar event is capture to start or stop the music, like when the
textbox has not the focus and i press the crtl+space hotkey.

My keyboard have some problems, but i would notice something if the ctrl key
was allays down in others apps...
Only Rythmbox has this problem.

For example, research "bob marley" is impossible, i can only search
"bobmarley", or use a copy/past method to have it.

Thank you for the patch! This one seems neat; I will only need to trim it a
little bit to send it to kernel.org. Also thanks for looking into the byte
encoding, these things are surely non-trivial.

[Bug 316093] [NEW] gvfsd allocates huge amounts of memory while playing audio files

2009-01-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

This might be related to bug 195976 (where gvfsd is accused of crashing a
machine).
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/195976

I have two screenshots of the system monitor, indicating the amount of
memory gvfsd has allocated (292MB) and the amount of swap consumed
(943MB). My system has 1.5GB of ram and the same swap, and I can
reliably create this amount of swap being taken if my Sony Walkman MP3
player is connected for a couple of days and I listen to my music, the
swap gets eaten. My issue is that I have to reboot (haven't tried
logging out and in again) to release the swap space. I have tried to
unmount the Walkman, but that doesn't change anything.

Kind regards,
Rob Wiers

[Bug 306161] Re: evolution crashed with SIGSEGV in g_closure_invoke()

2009-01-11 Thread Ian
It took a month to decide you needed a backtrace?

First, you tell me to use apport because it gives you all the
information you need, and then you say you don't have it all, and
require a backtrace now. So tell me how exactly can I generate a
backtrace because I don't know? Your first two contributions to this
bug was removing something and marking it incomplete without any comment
as to why it was incomplete. I don't call that very helpful in getting
the problem resolved. Only later do you comment saying you require a
backtrace?

Maybe get apport to do it, so that you have all the information in the
first place. I think I'll just live with the problem, seems it's too
much hassle to actually get it fixed in the first place.

[Bug 314946] [NEW] gnome-appearance-properties resets theme on boot

2009-01-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have the Darklooks theme installed and I have it selected but whenever
I reboot my computer it resets the theme to something else. I'm not
sure what it's resetting to because when I load the gnome-appearance-
properties it shows the Darklooks theme is still selected. If I choose
a different theme and then go back to the Darklooks theme the problem
fixes itself, but this is very frustrating to do every time I reboot.

I tried performing the same actions that had earlier caused the nautilus

Re: [Bug 315922] Re: 2.24.0-0ubuntu8.1 makes brightness applet not work

2009-01-11 Thread Nicolò Chieffo
I have to say that a downgrade of g-p-m was only enough to re-enable
the brightness panel applet. But when moving the cursor up and down
the brightness does not change.

Maybe I should try to boot into linux 2.6.27-9 like you Scott!

[Bug 315166] Re: Nautilus won't connect to certain ftp servers

2009-01-11 Thread Koopee
Thanks for the reply.

I'm sorry, I don't have time to test with jaunty right now. And I do not
have a public example either. But could perhaps take some kind of logs,
if that would help.

However, the user name in this case contains special characters. Could
that cause problems?

[Bug 316123] [NEW] deskbar-applet doesn't respect LC_NUMERIC settings

2009-01-11 Thread F30
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: deskbar-applet

The GNOME deskbar-applet's calculator tool always expects a dot (".") as
decimal seperator, but in many countries a comma (",") is used instead (see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decimal_separator ).
The system's settings for decimal seperators are stored in the locales category
"LC_NUMERIC"; deskbar-applet should adopt that attribute.

Ubuntu Version: 8.10 ("Intrepid Ibex")
deskbar-applet version: 2.24.1

[Bug 148181] Re: gnome-volume-control not controlling usb headset volume properly

2009-01-11 Thread Jack Senechal
This bug has been around for a long time and is really annoying... any
chance of fixing it? I use Skype and my Plantronics USB headset as my
main telephone, and I've got to deal with this constantly.

While we're at it, there are some other features that would be great to have
with USB headsets:
- remember settings when you disconnect and reconnect the device
- volume buttons on headset control headset volume
- bug: mute button light is ON when you plug in the plantronics headset, but
it's not muted. Mute button doesn't actually seem to control anything. The
"toggle audio recording from microphone" switch in gnome volume control toggles
the light on the device, but toggling button on device doesn't toggle the the
switch in volume control.
