2009-01-15 Thread Martin Saturka
Just put the bug into the upstream
(http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=567945).

R is a statistics oriented language (alike octave is numerics oriented).
Hence, the scientific section is the right one for it (as it is for
Octave and GAP). See http://cran.r-project.org/

[Bug 285638] Re: Junk mail check fails on evolution when enabled.

2009-01-15 Thread Atkins
Another "Me too." I'm using Spamassassin and the error started after
upgrading from Ubuntu 8.04 to 8.10. It appears the spam filter might
still be running, despite the status bar messages (ex: the status bar
shows a "progress indicator" when memorizing new 'Junk').

My current work-a-round (to avoid status bar messages, even if they are
bogus. . .and I don't know the answer to that), is to open a terminal
and restart the Spamassassin daemon (sudo /etc/init.d/spamassassin
restart).

Sorry that I don't have the time to look further, but I did want to add
weight to this thread.

[Bug 317754] Re: [Jaunty] Volume panel applet crashes when trying to change volume

2009-01-15 Thread Simon Allen
** Description changed:

Hi, On my Jaunty (upgraded from intrepid) install on my ASUS m51sn
laptop (3G model) there is a bug with the volume applet on the gnome-
  panel.

Upon left-clicking the applet and changing volume the application
crashes completely before any setting can take effect. The applet can
not be closed by the usual methods. A logout and login makes the desktop
return to normal however the applet still produces these same effects.

I can also confirm the crash occurs when right-clicking the applet and
- clicking to bring up the volume manager.
-
- Occasionally, this crash will cause the entire destop to become
- unresponsive. The only way to fix this is by going to a tty and doing a
- service gdm restart.
+ clicking to bring up the volume manager, this crash will cause the

First I tried using "Report a Problem" tool but it was not loading for
me, so I posted the bug directly.

Since I am not a developer I can't say which package is creating the
problem. But I believe it is date-time applet. If evolution is not
responding, gnome-panel (and date-time applet) should display my
calender details as "Not available" and come out immediately. Rather it
is waiting indefinitely for evolution to respond with calender details.

[Bug 317756] [NEW] installation of both nautilus-cd-burner and brasero results in two "Write to disc" menu entries

[Bug 204413] Re: nautilus memory leak

2009-01-15 Thread rbhkamal
I think Its worth mentioning the following:
1- This problem happens only on Ubuntu, I've used fedora 7,8,9 and 10 for two
years and never saw this issue (with or without video files); However, it
showed up once every month or so on my other Ubuntu machines. So the problem
probably resides somewhere in the difference between the fedora and Ubuntu's.

2- This problem happened many times by just letting Ubuntu run while
viewing the desktop; the desktop contained only encrypted files
(encrypted files from other appliances that I use)

I wish I can help more...

Ubuntu 8.10 and the two versions before it.

They've changed my pc and upgraded from Ubuntu 7.10 to ubuntu 8.04, but

Could you please make the submission of a bug more user friendly? I've
logged, but I could not find where to submit problems for Ubuntu 8.04
Where can I submit the fact that sometime the toolbar and the appbar
crash and I have to reboot? Another thing is that I use vmware, but with
the new version when in vmware if I press ctrl+alt+f8 the keyboard begin
to behave in a strange way and the pc become unusable.

Many thanks,

best regards

[Bug 315973] [NEW] gnome panel/calendar applet not responding when evolution is busy

2009-01-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Related Bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
panel/+bug/204775

I use Evolution with Exchange Server plugin. Evolution often goes to
"Non responsive" mode when it tries to retrieve mail or any other data
from exchange server and will take 5 to 10 minutes to become normal
again. In this time (when evolution is busy), if I click the calender,
the calender applet wont load and will become non responsive (with a
blank frame). Also the top panel, menus and the bottom panel will become
non-responsive. Alt-F2 (shortcut for application launcher) also wont
work.

Once evolution become active all the panels will become active again.

I have Interpid with kernel version 2.6.27.9

[Bug 317406] [NEW] Movie player timer shows a wrong time when paused

2009-01-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Playing a movie in movie player will show a timer, that tells you how much of
the movie you have seen already, but when paused that timer skips ahead like 15
minutes or more, and when "play" is clicked it jumps back to the right time
again. So it does not break anything, but it is annoying.
I have spotted this playing a .m4b file

I am using Intrepid Ibex

does it take to get this patch pushed live? Is any user testing needed

[Bug 29787] Re: Backspace key in GNU Screen not detected correctly

2009-01-15 Thread Micah Cowan
Morten, is this the same "Wuff, Wuff" problem, which shows ^@ chars

If so, the way to fix this is to turn off any "autodetection" settings
for what backspace should send, and explicitly specify the code it
should send (probably, ^?). You could also download the latest sources
for screen via the git repository at Savannah, as we've fixed this on
our end as well as submitting the vte patch.

If not, then you should file a new bug or ask for help on an appropriate
forum (such as screen-us...@gnu.org).

[Bug 316877] Re: Nautilus freezes completely when accessing large exterior hard drive (500Gb)

2009-01-15 Thread Greya
1. I've installed debug symbols for glib (the debug packages I could find in
repository),
2. ran nautilus, got it to hang and
3. tried to attach gdb to it - but it couldn't attach properly - it hang and
didn't pass to the next line with (gdb).
4. "Force Quit" nautilus window, everything on desktop disappeared, nautilus
freezed
5. run nautilus again (tried to open home/[user] directory) - no window opened
but another nautilus process appeared (pidof nautilus ==> 8125), i.e. I had 2
nautilus processes
6. attached gdb to this second nautilus process and copied everything from
terminal into ==> gdb-nautilus+glib.txt
7. I disconnected the external hard drive where nautilus freezed and nautilus
restarted, everything on desktop reappeared, but nautilus windows still don't
open
8. ran nautilus again, attached gdb to it =see=> gdb-nautilus+glib-2 (I guess
I'm missing some debug libraries there)

Please, instruct me more precisely if I'm doing something wrong, I'm not
such an advanced user :)

Thanks!

[Bug 314131] Re: very long boot Intrepid amd64 dual monitor & nvidia VICs

2009-01-15 Thread keepitsimpleengr
Checked today and the debug messages are gone. The amd64 boots now in
the same amount of time required for x86 to boot. (Hooray).

As requested, I will add the current syslog and messages, and will also
add a archived syslog from 05-JAN-09.

[Bug 316958] Re: gnome-wm is missing a .desktop file

2009-01-15 Thread Chris Coulson
Here's a debdiff that moves gnome-wm.desktop in to
/usr/share/applications.

Sebastien - I don't think that the gconf issue you mention is a gnome-
session bug. The package installs /usr/share/gconf/defaults/10_gnome-
session and runs update-gconf-defaults on install, which uses this file
to recreate the default gconf tree in /var/lib/gconf/defaults, which are
the default values that get used for new users.

[Bug 104558] Re: Nautilus cpu usage of 100%, locks up when pressing the view-menu

2009-01-15 Thread Neil Grover
I just experienced similar problems in 8.10 Intrepid. Here is what was
happening:

1) Click on the menu to launch nautilus (Places ->Home Folder)
2) Nautilus launches, turns grey within 10 seconds, and consumes 90%+ cpu. Only
way out is to kill the nautilus window
3) I did a reboot but still happened. Basically, not sequence of reboot, login
etc would cause the problem to go away.
4) after reading the above i wondered if there was a file in my home folder
that needed to be moved / deleted etc. So what I did was use a terminal, cd
into my home directory, and deleted files (one of each .jar, .png, .log, .iso,
.jpg).
5) repeated step one after deleting some files from my home directory and
voilà, everything was back to normal.

Could confirm the importance of such a dialog. Get a FAT32 external

while what was the reason for the mount read only behavior. dmesg was
helpfull but it's not a acceptable solution for the common user.

I use Ubuntu Hardy. Strange thing, my wife's laptop under breezy has
mounted the same file system read-write with no problem. Cannot
reproduce now that an fsck has resolved the problem.

[Bug 150443] Re: No workspace switching with mousewheel with compiz

2009-01-15 Thread flomar
hello sebastien and alexander!

like i said, i had no intention of being rude (if i was, i'm sorry) and i'm
very well aware of bugfixing and much more being a community process of
volunteers. i think i don't have to explain myself, i'm just not the coder
type, while doing other things in the community.
my only intention was, that somebody (a coder type) pays attention to this
again, because imho this is an underestimated issue. it sure takes away a
little of the usability of the gnome desktop managing. whereas you gain a lot
of extra usability by using compiz, you are loosing some in comparison to
metacity regarding the managment of multiple desktops.
again, i'm not ignorant saying "fix this bug", i am kindly asking of rethinking
your position on this bug.
btw. with nobody feeling responsible i didn't mean a specific person, i was
refering to a post in the compiz bug tracker, which made me think that nobody
seems willing to say which code i "responsible" for the bug.

thanks for reading,
flo

p.s.: Alexander, thanks for the offer, can i then keep the fix for
myself? ... just kiding ;)

[Bug 317597] [NEW] Not able to set Wallpaper/Background in intrepid

2009-01-15 Thread WebBuddha
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome

When ubuntu opens and accepts my logon credetials I see the background I have
selected for a very brief period then the desktop reverts back to a solid color
or gradient.. Depending on how the colors were set up for a specific
background. Really strange it is. I can bring up the change background dialog
and select different backgrounds. The only thing that changes is the background
color and a picture is never displayed.
My resolution is 1680x1050.

I've checked the gconf-editor already and the option
/desktop/gnome/background/draw_background is "checked".
I've also checked my gconf.xml file and found this part:
So I've changed the option value to "true" and I rebooted, but nothing changed.

I'm hopefull to get a solution here.

[Bug 285999] Re: gnome-terminal tabs switch is slow when maximized

2009-01-15 Thread Soenke
This bug affects me, too. The bigger the window, the slower the tab
change. This is also true for maximizing the window.

During this the processor load rises and even music stops playing for a
few milliseconds!

It' s an Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T8100 @ 2.10GHz
4GB RAM (server kernel)
nVidia Corporation Quadro NVS 140M (rev a1)

Lenovo T61
Ubuntu 8.10
Compiz 0.7.8-0ubuntu4
Nvidia 180.22 (from jaunty)

[Bug 309434] [NEW] Caps Lock stops being a Control key with an external keyboard

2009-01-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have Caps Lock remapped to Control using the Gnome keyboard
preferences. When I plug in an external keyboard, (in this case, a
Microsoft Natural Keyboard), the mapping no longer works, and caps lock
on the external keyboard works as a caps lock key, not as a control key.
If I look in the keyboard preferences, it says that caps lock is mapped
to control. I note that the caps lock key on the internal keyboard is
still properly mapped to control, only the external keyboard is missing
the mapping.

xmodmap says the following without the external keyboard plugged in:
[hup:0]% xmodmap -pm
xmodmap: up to 3 keys per modifier, (keycodes in parentheses):

shift Shift_L (0x32), Shift_R (0x3e)
lock
control Control_L (0x25), Control_L (0x42), Control_R (0x69)
mod1Alt_L (0x40), Alt_R (0x6c), Meta_L (0xcd)
mod2Num_Lock (0x4d)
mod3
mod4Super_L (0xce), Hyper_L (0xcf)
mod5ISO_Level3_Shift (0x5c), Mode_switch (0xcb)

and with the external keyboard plugged in:
[hup:0]% xmodmap -pm
xmodmap: up to 3 keys per modifier, (keycodes in parentheses):

shift Shift_L (0x32), Shift_R (0x3e)
lockCaps_Lock (0x42)
control Control_L (0x25), Control_R (0x69)
mod1Alt_L (0x40), Alt_R (0x6c), Meta_L (0xcd)
mod2Num_Lock (0x4d)
mod3
mod4Super_L (0xce), Hyper_L (0xcf)
mod5ISO_Level3_Shift (0x5c), Mode_switch (0xcb)

Note that if with the external keyboard plugged in, I go to the keyboard
preferences, and turn off the remapping of caps lock, and then turn it
back on, the remapping sticks until the next time I unplug the external
keyboard and plug it back in.

Yet another data point: if I run xmodmap using the internal keyboard to
type the command and run it, I get the expected xmodmap listing (the
first one above), and if I do the same thing with the external keyboard,
I get the second listing. (unless I've done the workaround just
mentioned, in which case both maps are identical)

So it looks like my keyboard settings are different for each keyboard,
but there seems to be no way to discover this through the UI. I know I
never had this problem with 8.04, and but I'm not sure if I've always
had this problem with 8.10.

[hup:0]% lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 8.10
Release:8.10

(And I'm not sure what package provides this functionality, but I have
all of the latest updates to 8.10)

** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 227186] Re: Evince doesn't print PDF files

2009-01-15 Thread bixejo
Another reason for me to stay on 8.04 is that I tried to upgrade and got
a warning saying that there were no NDIVIA driver available for 8.10, so
I'm afraid I'm bounded to 8.04 till a new version with this driver
available is released...

same on intrepid x86, no crashes, several instances of beklagte...
could this be an amd64-specific issue?

Seb, I'm not sure this actually is a duplicate of that, because that bug
was fixed in Hardy.

Rom:
Seahorse requires that you search for a person, select their key, and
then import. It does not allow you to search by key id. Did you file
this to request that search-by-key-id be added?
