[Bug 310854] Re: Printing Photos with Canon original drivers stopped working in Intrepid
Anyone tried the Poppler fix? Running an up to date Ubuntu 8.10; printing with canon's drivers. Experiencing problems similar to the ones reported above. Specifically the error 32 stuff, which leads to nothing being printed. Odd-sized printouts was fixed by manually creating a page-size. I seem to recall that width/height was to be reported as opposite that seemed what would have been intuitive to me (as in: what I thought was "width" had to be entered as "height"); but it might be I just understood that part wrong, so ignore it at will. It's a case of not-my-computer-and-I-want-to-mess-with-it-as-little-as- possible, which is why I'm asking, before trying myself, if the poppler packages in -proposed solves something for someone having problems with pixma-printing. -- Printing Photos with Canon original drivers stopped working in Intrepid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/310854 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to eog in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 318508] Re: Unable to mount ISO file using Archive Mounter
Thanks for reporting this bug and any supporting documentation. Since this bug has enough information provided for a developer to begin work, I'm going to mark it as confirmed and let them handle it from here. Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better! I followed the steps you outlined. I right clicked on and .iso file, chose Open with Archive Mounter. The new device appeard on the left in the area with the rest of the mounted drives. As soon as I clicked on it, My nautilus window immediately closed itself. [Bug 318508] [NEW] Unable to mount ISO file using Archive Mounter
You have been subscribed to a public bug: If I try to mount an ISO image using Nautilus menu->Open with->Archive Mounter, the CD Image appears in the left panel listing available devices and has icon of unmounted drive. If I click on the new device nautilus crashes. I don't know where to find debugging info from Nautilus. Runing it from terminal has no effect, becouse it doesn't block the terminal, which it is run from. It does only Nautilus run under root. By runing `sudo nautilus', I get the following error message immediately after clicking the "Archive Mounter" in Nautilus menu: Added new job source 0x1827820 (GVfsBackendArchive) Queued new job 0x18278a0 (GVfsJobMount) send_reply, failed: 0 register_mount_callback, mount_reply: 0x18201e0, error: (nil) However, Nautilus run under root doesn't add new device to the list. So I can't reproduce the crash from it (or I don't know how). Furthermore, Nautilus prints the following into /var/log/syslog immediately before crashing: Jan 18 19:39:18 DESKTOP-Linux kernel: [34246.594629] nautilus[21945]: segfault at 0 ip 7f818f22b360 sp 7fff9b37f328 error 4 in libglib-2.0.so.0.1800.2[7f818f1cf000+c3000] I use Ubuntu Intrepid x86-64. [Bug 300017] Re: Create folder is greyed out on SFTP remote folders when UID/GID doesn't match
I fail to see how "enabling the menus unconditionally and showing an error if gvfs fails to create a folder after the user requested it" would lead to a nautilus breakage. More over, Nautilus is already broken by disallowing a permitted user to create a file or folder. Looks to me that ssh is only guilty for not providing a way of detecting session permissions, and that's one part of the issue and should be addressed separately. Given this problem with ssh, constraining the user for creating any file or folder (or pasting) if he actually is allowed to do so sure is a Nautilus or gvfs bug. I would expect this bug to be either left as new in case a fix is released by other means, or to be marked as triaged and wait for a developer that wants to pick it up, mark it as wontfix or redirected/reassigned to a more proper package. [Bug 318625] [NEW] Rhythmbox shouldn't set illegal / special characters on filenames (i.e. "?"; question mark) when ripping to NTFS volumes
Public bug reported: Whenever a song name has a special character like a "question mark" (?) in it (for example, "Where is my Mind?" or "Are You In?"), Rhythmbox rips the song to the drive and names the file with the special character, for example: "Where is my Mind?.mp3" or "Are You In?.mp3" On NTFS volumes (and probably FAT32 and lower) these characters (such as "?"; question mark) are illegal and make the file inaccessible and useless within Windows because it doesn't recognise or read files with illegal characters. It becomes impossible the deletion, renaming or reading of the file within Windows systems. TEST CASE: [1] - Rip a song from a CD using Rhythmbox that has a special character in its name like a "?" question mark (Where is my Mind?) and make sure it rips to an NTFS volume. [2] - Exit Linux, go into a Windows system and try and play, delete or rename the file that has the special character in it. You'll find that you get an error message about the usage of illegal characters anytime you try and delete or rename the file and the file will not be playable by programmes within Windows that are designed to read it, such as Windows Media Player, Winamp or VLC etc. [3] - Conclusion: When illegal characters are set on files by Rhythmbox (or Linux in general) on NTFS volumes, those files become completely inaccessible within Windows. You have to to return to Linux to delete, rename or read / play the files. Maybe this is an issue for the NTFS-3g driver, it should prevent the incorrect naming of files that go onto NTFS volumes. There should probably be an option within Rhythmbox to strip special characters from the filename (not necessarily the tag, as there they are compatible) or replace them with something compatible. As lp3.ps displays correctly with Ghostscript ("gs l3.ps") it is possible that we are hitting a bug of the PostScript interpreters in many HP printers here (or even more than one bug, as the HP LaserJet P3005 crashes). The simplest fix HP could do is following Ron Morse's suggestion to switch their PPDs to PostScript Level 2 by changing the "*LanguageLevel:" lines. You have been subscribed to a public bug: If you connect to a remote SFTP folder, the UID and GID is interpreted using the local users and groups database. This makes the "Create Folder" and "Create Document" options to be greyed out. If SFTP permissions are known to be misinterpreted, just don't make the Create Folder / Create Document / Paste menu items availability depend on those while the bug is being fixed. I'm sure I do have correct permissions: if I log in to the SSH server and cd to the path, creating the folder through the shell works. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Invalid -- Create folder is greyed out on SFTP remote folders when UID/GID doesn't match https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/300017 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Again, I'm not sure if there's any precedent for this, though (using different icons for files of the same MIME type based on their content) ** Attachment added: "Assigning the extracted icons as the file's icons manually" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/21331797/Using%20icons%20as%20icons.png -- Use embedded icons for executable files https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/292504 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Also, using a thumbnailer as in the gnome-exe-thumbnailer script isn't even the right approach. [Bug 294677] Re: Wrong description for Word documents and Excel spreadsheets
I can still open Word templates from Nautilus after I manually remove those entries. If you remove those lines from openoffice.org-common.xml, Nautilus will be fine, because it's the .desktop files that say to Nautilus what a given application can open. MIME packages define how to recognize a given mimetype, not how to open it. The problem arises from bogus mimetype definitions in openoffice .org-common.xml overriding the correct ones from shared-mime-database. -- Wrong description for Word documents and Excel spreadsheets https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/294677 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to shared-mime-info in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 318563] [NEW] File selector dialogs are not centered
Public bug reported: The file selector dialog in every app is not centered anymore. Thats because when it gets shown, it is a small window, which is centered, but then it gets resized and thus is not centered anymore. I guess it first should get shown when the actual size has been set so the window manager could center it correctly. Also sometimes after the first resize there is a second resize making the window small again, I guess thats some kind of race condition. Steps to reproduce: - start gedit - press ctrl+o (or click on the open button) - for less then a second you can see a small version of the open dialog ** Affects: gtk+2.0 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- File selector dialogs are not centered https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/318563 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gtk+2.0 in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in gnome-panel. For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can be accessed via the Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the application with which you are having an issue. [Bug 315623] Re: [jaunty] weird crash is specific directory
Hi Connor, thanks for helping. I can't do that exactly because of bug #314212. However I made a backtrace as indicated at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace The backtrace above happens with the source for amarok-1.4.10. I got that originally with "apt-get source amarok", but since the Jaunty repositories passed to amarok2 you might need to get it from somewhere else. Apt gave me amarok_1.4.10-0ubuntu3.dsc, amarok_1.4.10-0ubuntu3.diff.gz and amarok_1.4.10.orig.tar.gz. I only untarred the orig.tar.gz file* and I didn't apply the Ubuntu diff.** (*: apt does the unpacking itself, but I had deleted the unpacked directory for space.) (**: my original report was with the diff applied. This backtrace is without it, though.) Then I entered amarok-1.4.10 and ran gdb as demanded in the Backtrace wiki page. I ran nautilus with "run amarok/src", which is the directory that makes it crash. Anyway, I can obtain crashes inside the amarok2 source, too (the ./src folder). (!) - The solution is to remove this part of the file altogether. + Those parts of the file have to be removed, because they conflict with + the shared-mime-info definition. - shared-mime-info defined its own application/msword-template mimetype - instead of using application/x-msword-template for unknown reason as its - not a IANA mimetype. + This is NOT related in ANY way to the application/msword-template + mimetype not being IANA compliant. ** Changed in: openoffice.org (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged => Confirmed -- Wrong description for Word documents and Excel spreadsheets https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/294677 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to shared-mime-info in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 197762] Re: file transfers on USB disk are very slow
I just checked on the linux-usb mailing-lists, there is absolutely nothing on that topic. E-mails sent directly to the USB guys come back with a mention like "don't even bother sending us e-mails, go to a newbie web site or contact your distribution bug team". Dont acte. [Bug 318517] [NEW] Word wrapping is not respecting indentation
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gedit When wrapping a line it would be awesome to have gedit indent the wrapped line just like the original line. Imagine "_" being a space character, the current wrapping works like this hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello It would be better if it worked like this: hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello While editing this makes code-indentation readable even if the editing window is resized to be very narrow. It is also very helpful for unavoidable long lines, like regexps or URLs. It makes formatting less of a pain with generated code. etc etc etc KDE editor component and Eclipse both have this behaviour, it was also present in the famous EditPlus editor for Windows. I am sure i am not the first person requesting this feature, so i wonder if there is a philosophical stance against this wrapping style or if a plugin is available to handle it.
