with the 22 Gen 2009 updates for

- Cheese 2..24.1-0ubuntu1
- libv4l-0 0.5.6-1~intrepid1

solved for me, in a Dell Inspiron 1520.

Now i have another problem, after shot a photo the entire screen it's
completely white, but i think it's another bug. I will investigate
further on it.

[Bug 14571] Re: Provide a means to change the keyboard layout from gdm login screen?

2009-01-21 Thread positivek
I upgraded my Ubuntu distro from 8.04 to 8.10 (64-bit multi-core / SMP version).
The default ("Human"?) login screen for my system allows me to change the
*language*. However, the *layout* within a language still seems to be
unavailable for changing.

I am using English. I installed the system with the qwerty layout, but
use Dvorak after logging into my Gnome session (that is, on logging in
using the Ubuntu default login screen). I am proficient in Dvorak and
cannot use qwerty naturally.

In Gnome, the keyboard layout is easily changed and that is what I am
used to.

Expected behavior: At the login prompt, the keyboard layout (in
addition to language) should be changeable to at least those that are
used by the various users of the system.

Actual behavior: Language is changeable at the login prompt, but the
keyboard layout within the layout is not.

IMO, this bug is not yet resolved.

[Bug 319910] [NEW] Custom header plugin misformats headers

2009-01-21 Thread russells
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Ubuntu 8.10.

evolution 2.24.2-0ubuntu1.

Custom headers are misformatted in outgoing mail.

To reproduce:

Add a custom header:

Edit - Plugins - select Custom Header, then Configuration.

Add a header with key "a" and value "b;c".

Compose a new email. Select Insert -> Custom Header. Make the value of
the header "a" to be "b".

Send the email.

The header seen by the recipient is formatted like

a: : b

instead of

a: b

This also happens with the pre-configured "Security" header in the
custom headers plugin.

Should this go upstream? I don't currently have the ability to build a
current version from source to test.

[Bug 314516] Re: gnome-sharp2 transition

2009-01-21 Thread spitfire
I'm having problem adapting monodevelop for new gnome-sharp2 packaging.
I've backported gnome-desktop-sharp2 from debian (see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/f-spot/+bug/314516/comments/14), but
it needs more work.

I've changed dependencies for monodevelop:

libgnome2.0-cil -> libgnome2.24-cil
libgconf2.0-cil -> libgconf2.24-cil
libgtksourceview2.0-cil -> libgtksourceview2-2.0-cil

but ./configure script complains about gtksourceview-sharp-2.0 not
found:

checking for GTKSOURCEVIEW_SHARP... configure: error: Package
requirements (gtksourceview-sharp-2.0 >= 0.10) were not met:

[Bug 318694] Re: gthumb is called with --import-photos on any directory

2009-01-21 Thread A. Walton
I'm not entirely sure it's a Nautilus bug either; it doesn't really make
sense not to show any of the entries in the application chooser (i.e the
app chooser really shouldn't parse "NoDisplay=" since you are assigning
files to content types and not displaying it in a menu). Except maybe
those with the "Hidden=" key set we shouldn't show...

What makes more sense is for the "Name=" or "Comment=" field to contain
the explanation of what the desktop entry file actually does (e.g.
gthumb-import.desktop should have something like "GThumb Directory
Importer" as it's "Name=" key, or "Import Directory into GThumb" in its
"Comment=" field, or both).

[Bug 319470] Re: gnome-terminal ignores keyboard layout when acting on shortcuts

2009-01-21 Thread John Millikin
Looks like it's something in VTE's shortcut handling. Enabling VTE
debugging when running gnome-terminal provides these lines:

Keypress, modifiers=0x2000, keyval=0xffe3, raw string=`'.
Keypress, modifiers=0x2004, keyval=0x64, raw string=`'.
event->group = 1
modifiers & GDK_CONTROL_MASK = 4
ctrl+Key, group=1 de-grouped into keyval=0x67
Keypress, modifiers=0x2004, keyval=0x67, cooked string=`'.

I don't know why it's trying to "de-group" a simple shortcut key.

[Bug 319856] [NEW] time in evolution (calendar) doesn't match system setting (same locales)

2009-01-21 Thread Andrew King
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

What I expected to Happen:
Time displayed in evolution calendar (as indicated by the Marcus Bains line)
should match system time (as displayed on the panel clock, date command, etc).

What happens instead:
the time evolution uses internally doesn't match the system clock settings (out
by one hour).

Both the system locale and the evolution locale are Australia/Perth.

I think that it is related to the timezone data, as there is no option
to apply daylight savings corrections for Australia/Perth in evolution
(we currently are in daylight savings time). Appointments are displayed
at the right time, but notifications are an hour late due to the lag
between evolution's time and the system time. (evolution thinks that we
are UTC+8. Whereas system says UTC+9, which is correct).

[Bug 319776] Re: don't allow shut down if there are other user with opened sessions

2009-01-21 Thread Sarah Hobbs
On intrepid, Gnome no longer offers the option that a non-superuser can
shut down, only log out.

For the superuser, 'shut down' just logs you out, and takes you back to
gdm, when others are logged in. (Perhaps there should be an explanation
here). Presumably one can then force shutdown from gdm.

Looks like hibernate and suspend also don't work for non-super-users.

It sounds like you accidently gave your friends administrator
permissions, in which case, they should be able to administer the
machines like you?

It seems I spoke too soon. The file dialog's size reverts to being small
after closing Firefox. The behavior is strange:

1. Start Firefox.
2. Open file dialog in Firefox. This has the correct size.

4. Open file dialog in Gedit. This has the correct size.

5. Close Firefox.
6. Close gedit.

  + Change build depends libgnome-vfs2.0-cil -> libgnome-vfs2.24-cil

[Bug 319640] Re: couldnt burn cd when /tmp had 1GB instead of 3GB

2009-01-21 Thread David Johnston
hi chris,
thanks again for taking time to help.

I guess I should lodge separate bug reports for each of items 1 - 4 in
my earlier update, but they are all related, so I was initially hesitant
to do that.

The title of this bug report is most closely related to item 2 (sorry that this
isnt exactly what I said regarding item 1 and 2, and isnt obvious by the order
I listed them).
the bug is that the burner requires more than 1GB temp space to burn a 750 MB
CD. my /tmp was a separate file system of 1GB and was almost empty. Once I
expanded it to 3GB, brasero was able to burn CD.

please refer to earlier update item 2 -
"2) - the process seems to need more than 30% above the 750 MB that the ISO
image file is likely to occupy during disc burning."

if it takes so much temp space to make a cd, I am a bit nervous about
how much space I will need to burn a dvd (I may have to use a different
app, but would prefer to try to help improve the one installed with
ubuntu if I can by at least reporting the problem).

the other points are info which should help anyone else who has the same
problem to find out how to set the brasero preferences for audio cd
project by using the preferences for copy cd project button.

for the second part of your request for other info about the problem,
please reread what I wrote about putting the drives key in the gconf
configuration backend (more specifically into the data store, or
database, it uses to hold its info). The /apps/brasero/drives didnt
exist when I first opened gconf-editor. I then went to the copy cd
project button in brasero and used the properties there to set temporary
location, becuase the audio cd project doesnt have that properties
option on its panel or in its menus or dialogues (not that I could
find). After I changed the temp location for copy cd project, I
reopened gconf-editor and the /apps/brasero/drives keys were there.
Apparently the brasero install didnt create the /apps/brasero/drives
configuration keys, although it had created others such as
/apps/brasero/display. If you still dont understand what I mean after
rereading the earlier comments, and would like me to try to explain
better, please let me know.

whats your advice about raising separate bugs for items 1, 3, and 4 ?

I still don't understand what problem this bug is trying to describe
now. brasero allows you to configure the location of temporary storage,
which you have managed to do. What doesn't work now? It isn't obvious
from your description.

I don't understand what you mean by "putting the drives key in the gconf
database". gconf is a configuration backend, and /apps/brasero is for
specifying configuration options specific to brasero.

I care about this problem...

I've Intrepid Ibex on my notebook and I wish to report
- the "Copy Date" command doesn't agree to the specified format as it prints
out as weekday, month day year (%W, %B %d %Y)
- the "Copy Time" command reports the exact format specified in the
custom_format property abbr-weekday day abbr-month abbr-year hh:mm (%w
%d %b %y %H:%M)

The two commands then reports different strings adhering to different

[Bug 307306] Re: upgrade to 2:1.2.99.2-0ubuntu1 makes session utterly slow

2009-01-21 Thread Max Bowsher
I'm afraid that for me, the bug still exists even after rebuilding
gnome-desktop with
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=126905&action=view from
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=568160, and rebuilding gnome-
power-manager with
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=126753&action=view and
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=126770&action=view from
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=568162.

It is noticable from the CPU graph that there is *some* improvement, but
there is still clear inappropriate CPU-busyness from Xorg. Killing
gnome-power-manager (but not gnome-settings-daemon) stops the CPU-
busyness.

[Bug 319640] Re: couldnt burn cd when /tmp had 1GB instead of 3GB

2009-01-21 Thread David Johnston
Hi Chris,
Thanks for taking the time to help out.

your advice led to me being able to set the working directory for brasero so
that I can scale temp back to normal size.
I also needed to tinker a bit to trick brasero into giving gnome the gconf key
for drives. brasero was there under apps, but it only had display and a couple
of other groups under /apps/brasero but not including drives.
I had to put a non-blank disc into the drive, open brasero from menu and click
on the copy disc button. this enabled the properties tab next to the burn
destination button, which had been disabled when I had a blank disc in the
drive.
then I changed the location specified under the temporary files heading and
changed it.
then when I went back to the gconf settings tool the drives group showed up and
it had the tempdir key there for me to edit.

I suggest we not set this bug as invalid. it is at least a documentation
weakness, but also the question of why a 1GB /tmp was inadequate but a
3GB /tmp allowed the cd to be burned.

Also it is a bug (or one of a set of bugs related to this one) because
the copy has a properties button for setting the temporary files
location, but that isnt available on the other buttons - data project,
audio cd, etc.

If you still disagree, I suggest setting a status other than invalid,
because this report has info that would help others who hit the same
problem, which is very likely, as few who create a /tmp would make it
bigger than 1GB if they are trying out a small setup and choose to
tailor the partitioning slightly to have a /tmp separate from /.

To handle the problem with the audio cd burn project failing and just showing
the burn log browse, and not indicating the cause of the problem, I suggest the
following -
The app should look for the error message when it calls the utility which
generates the iso image which I expect is where the more than 1GB space for a
750MB image is getting used up. Then it could report what is likely to be a
fairly common error. Lack of that error checking and reporting detracts from
the brasero objective of being a simple to use burner, and the functionality of
the app failing rather than reporting the cause of the error is different to
what I would expect, so I would class that as a bug.

I understand that there are many different errors that could occur
during the burn process, and they cant all be catered to, but I think it
would make the app simple to use if the more likely ones are handled
specifically.

I said in my earlier report -
"there are a couple of things to deal with :
[ 1) ] - the burn project option doesnt have a properties selection button or
similar (whereas the copy disc option does)
[ 2) ] - the process seems to need more than 30% above the 750 MB that the ISO
image file is likely to occupy during disc burning."
I mentioned the first earlier. The second is also an issue that should be
pursued (whether by same or separate problem report, or by a question to the
dev team)
There are some other things now apparent -
3) the brasero install should put the drives key into the gconf database,
rather than having to trick brasero into putting it in there by tinkering with
the copy cd project option
4) if feasible, the documentation should mention that the temporary files
location can be updated via gconf if the burn fails with that problem - in the
meantime, this bug report would partly cover that need, but more likely so if
it is not flagged as invalid.

based on the above, I will (attempt to) set the status to something that
indicates there is still an issue but with a workaround to the problem.

[Bug 59143] Re: Force quit applet doesn't remove modal window when pressing

2009-01-21 Thread Sam Korn
I also just had this bug. I'm also running Firefox (like the original
report on both this bug and the duplicate) on the Intrepid LiveCD. I
solved the problem with pkill gnome-panel; when the panel reappeared,
the force-quit window had gone.

[Bug 319782] [NEW] email adresse in "contacts" is not still available when already selected once for a field "to:

2009-01-21 Thread Jérôme MELEARD
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

This problem is not really a bug but it appeared to me important to report as
this functionality is available in other mail softs.
It relates to the contacts selection in writing an email. When a contact is
already selected for a field (To:" for example), it disappears from the list
for the filling of the other fields (Cc: or other) whereas it occurs needing to
send a message at the same contact but at its different adresses.

[Bug 316017] Re: gthumb[15566]: segfault at 5126c60f eip b7f7bfe6 esp bf9bab08 error 4

2009-01-21 Thread Tormod Volden
Mike, thanks for your feedback!

> 1) I don't think it is possible for (i < tiff) to ever occur in the
code. Is it?

I was thinking "offset" could even be negative, but I didn't really
check the signedness and types of the functions and variables involved.
I don't remember any longer if I got a negative in my own gdb testing.

> 2) I think "i>readsize" should actually be "i>=readsize". Right?

Yes, that would be consistent with the while(i(readsize-
certainsize). But given the randomness of "offset" these would be corner
cases.

[Bug 289918] Re: Regression: Connecting to FreeNX breaks keyboard layout in Intrepid

2009-01-21 Thread mabawsa
After th update things have got worse. The down arrow key is mapped to
enter and delete is mapped to printscreen. The other navigation keys so
not work. The killall metacity workaround no longer works.
