[Bug 201291] Re: Add ogv (video) and oga (audio) as recognized extension for Ogg Theora and Ogg Vorbis, respectively

2009-01-26 Thread ricardisimo
I also get this:

"Audacity had to make a guess at the type of file. The Audio may be bogus.
If the audio is bogus, try renaming the file so that it has the correct
extension before opening it."

... but only with flac files that I generated from m4as with
soundconverter. I believe I also tagged them all with EasyTag, so
conceivably the flac tags are confusing Audacity. No problem with flac
files ripped directly from my CDs, by the way.

Is there any test I can perform for you? Thanks for everything that you
do.

[Bug 174164] Re: system monitor reports active programs as sleeping

2009-01-26 Thread torbean
Hello. Just found this bug report. And I do not have any solution for the
problem. Please, is there any possibility to actually monitor the state of a
program, tell me )) Whether the system monitor update or any alternative
program. I am using biopython package with big databases, I really NEED to know
whether my program is dead or still working in a state of "sleeping"...
Do programs go out of this state??
Thanks

[Bug 292739] Re: Evolution 2.24.1 really slow with big IMAP folders

2009-01-26 Thread Fabio Muzzi
Dear Vasil,

There are discussions going on elsewhere about the poor performance of
the block device scheduler in new kernels, so maybe you are right.
Evolution does a lot of small i/o requests, and the whole problem gets
really worse when you have more than one account, because the number of
parallel requests grows with the number of accounts you have.

Maybe this performance problem is caused by a sum of causes: poor
coding, poor sqlite performance, poor kernel i/o scheduler performance.
We should test by recompiling the kernel (on the same hardware) and
changing the i/o scheduler it uses.

[Bug 292739] Re: Evolution 2.24.1 really slow with big IMAP folders

2009-01-26 Thread Vasil Kolev
Fabio,

Changing the IO scheduler is easy - it's in
/sys/block/$devname/queue/scheduler ($devname = sda in my case), and
ubuntu comes with all the normal in-kernel schedulers compiled in -
deadline, anticipatory, noop and cfq (the last one being the default
one).

I'll try this with the other schedulers and will see if that makes any
difference. BTW, can you post some links to the discussions about the
block scheduler performance, they might be useful to this bug too.

I don't think that SQLite is the problem, as when I preload it it's
blindingly fast - and when you have a single account, it's again really
fast. If someone can test evolution with postgresql or mysql, I think
we'll see the same results (without the preloading).

However you can download it from [1].

It is quite easy to install and it works great if you are using Ubuntu

[Bug 172353] Re: Human theme has non-translatable emblem names.

2009-01-26 Thread Sergio Zanchetta
@Martin
I reopen this because there is an non-translatable emblem left in nautilus that
comes from gnome-icon-theme.

It's "default" and it is shown along with "Downloads" and "Erase" even
using human theme.

But while the last two are translatable, "default" doesn't. (Note it's
not in capital letter).

I'm preparing a debdiff for gnome-icon-theme to fix this, and I'll
upload it to upstream too. (I'll open a bug upstream ASAP)

[Bug 120829] [NEW] /dev/sda3 is mounted despite the 'noauto' option in fstab

2009-01-26 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: mount

besides the Ubuntu feisty installation I have 2 other Linux-partititions
formatted ext3. As they contain another system I do not want Ubuntu to touch
them. So I edited /etc/fstab and added the option 'noauto' for those entries.
Ubuntu does not respect these options and still mounts them at every boot-up.

Example with /dev/sda3:

1. line in fstab:
# /dev/sda3
UUID=72478130-3425-47ca-92e5-7270e8d3b6b2 /media/sda3 ext3user,noauto
 0 0

2. line in 'cat /proc/mounts':
/dev/disk/by-uuid/72478130-3425-47ca-92e5-7270e8d3b6b2 /media/sda3 ext3
rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,data=ordered 0 0

The 'noauto' option is just ignored! Linux in no way should mount 'foreign'
filesystems without confirmation by the user
also with respect to security (removable media is a different story).

I thus placed a '#' in front of the line in fstab, now Ubuntu complains
about 'error mounting local filesystems' on every boot.

[Bug 321337] Re: "Name" field in 'gimp.desktop' is not translated to any language

2009-01-26 Thread Khaled Hosny
I downloaded the source package, the "03_gimp.desktop.in.in.patch" changes the
'Name' entry of the desktop file to "GIMP Image Editor", but the upstream
translation catalogs don't have that string, only in launchpad translations.
I'm not sure how this should be handled, but I think if we are going to change
upstream sources this way, then we should be using launchpad translations at
build time too, not just languages packs.
It is not acceptable in many languages, especially those who use a totally
different writing system like Arabic, to have English menu entries, it also
gives a false impression that GIMP isn't translated, which affects the overall
user experience.

2009-01-26 Thread Chousuke
I noticed that running the gnome-display-properties application also

1) first having my external monitor unplugged

3) start gnome-display-properties -> X.org goes insane and the display

(it appears to work if gnome-power-manager is not running, but clicking

[Bug 315930] Re: Vinagre (Remote desktop viewer) Freezes when I copy something on my host computer

2009-01-26 Thread Emilio Pozuelo Monfort
Do you mean the connection freezes when you copy something from Ubuntu
into Ubuntu, without interacting with the remote computer?

I've tried to reproduce copying a 1GB file to a folder, when connected
to a Hardy remote computer, and it worked fine.

When you open Vinagre, it doesn't start any connection. Is vinagre
opened fullscreen? I can't find how to trigger that, for me it always
opens in a normal window (not fullscreen), no matter if I close Vinagre

So how do you know this is a bug in Vinagre and not some misconfiguration in

Can you create a new user, log in with it, and try to connect? Does that
work?

Hey Jan,

Yeah sorry my programming skills are not the best in the world so I do get a
bit confused. So what your saying is that even if the executable bit is
not set nautilus will execute it regardless right? I have already forwarded
the bug up stream so I will update the ticket clarifying later in the day.

[Bug 321445] [NEW] epiphany: opening new windows is very slow

2009-01-26 Thread Matti Koskimies
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

Opening a new browser window in epiphany takes ca. 12 seconds. Even if
it is a blank page. I can see epiphany taking 100% of CPU during this
time. New tabs open instantly.

I'm using Intrepid Ibex with latest updates.

epiphany-browser:
  Installed: 2.24.1-0ubuntu1

[Bug 321032] Re: gnome-panel unable to drag and drop for placement

2009-01-26 Thread Kent Seaton
I thought that's what the "Allow panel to be moved/Lock the placement of
the panel" options were for. I can't find the changelog but I was able
to figure out the key qualifier. It feels like the feature is a little
more hidden. There's no information about the key qualifier in the
"Help" (file:///usr/share/gnome/help/user-guide/C/user-
guide.xml#gospanel-12). Personally, I'd consider this lack of
information to still be a bug.

[Bug 321441] Re: rhythmbox doesn't play sounds at all

2009-01-26 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!
