[Bug 327273] Re: email won't work

2009-02-09 Thread Michele Mangili
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

[Bug 252503] Re: message filter does not set label

2009-02-09 Thread NoOp
This same problem occurs even without moving messages. I have a filter set up
for a gmane newsgroup:
gmane.comp.openoffice.questions
With a filter set to filter on a 'Delivered-To' header which contains
'moderator'. The action is to:

Assign Color: Red
Set Status: Important

When I fetch new messages for the newsgroup I see messages that match
the filter criteria. However, the filters are not applied unless I first
select the individual message, and then use Message|Apply Filters or
Ctrl-Y. Only then does the filter work.

I have even tried selecting all of the message headers, the bottom
status will show 'Filtering selected messages', but the filter is not
applied - and is only applied if I select an individual message as
above.

[Bug 327327] [NEW] Can't open multiple large PDF files

2009-02-09 Thread MountainX
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

When I try to open multiple PDF documents in Evince Document Viewer (the
default app), after several documents are open, Evince fails to load the
next one. This always happens, but the hang point (number of docs)
depends on the size of the docs.

Here are the steps I used to produce the bug just now:
1. check system monitor memory. It shows 1.2 GiB used of 3.0 GiB (and no swap
memory used out of 3.4 GiB).
2. Open 5 PDF documents. No problems.
3. Open the 6th PDF. It fails to load. No error is shown, but Evince just shows
me a blank window.
4. check system monitor again. It shows 1.4 GiB used of 3.0 GiB (and still no
swap memory used out of 3.4 GiB).
5. if I close a previously opened PDF document, I can open the 6th one that
would not open before. So it is not a problem with a specific PDF document. It
appears to be a problem with how many large documents I have open. The PDF
files in this test were more than 1 MB each (and largest was 11 MB).

I repeated the test with smaller PDF documents (all under 200k) and I
was able to open 8 without problems and I probably could have opened
more. But eventually, Evince will hang as described above. I know this
from past experience.

Any ideas about how to troubleshoot this?

I'm running Hardy 32 bit. Computer specs: Asus A8N5X, Athlon 64X2 3800+,
4GB CORSAIR XMS DDR500 RAM, GeForce 8600GT 256MB GDDR3 PCIe x16 SLI

to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to

[Bug 237604] [NEW] Ctrl-key stuck in Gnome after continued browsing

2009-02-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

First of all - I have not been able to find a way to reproduce this bug
when I want to. I have tried - a lot.

That being said, this happens quite often. I use firefox 3 on Ubuntu
8.04 and browse a lot using Ctrl+click (opening a new tab in the
background) and Ctrl-W. At some time (often after 15-20 minutes) the
control key seems stuck. Just normally clicking on any link opens the
page in a background tab in firefox.

Thought this might just affect firefox, but the whole desktop
environment is affected, so I guess it must be gnome, somehow. The
symptoms are very much like those described here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/194214

Unfortunately I can't log out normally, because everything I click just
seems highlighted. Can't type anything in thegnome- terminal; just have
a rectangle where the letters should be. You can see the same thing when
just pressing Ctrl in a normal session. I have to either Ctrl-Alt-F1 to
a terminal and run killall gnome-session or kill the X-server via the
Ctrl-Alt-Backspace combination.

Because I have not found an easy way of reproducing this bug (quickly!) I guess
it will be closed as incomplete, but since this has happened quite a few times
since the launch of 8.04, I though I might report it.

[Bug 326325] Re: playlist is randomly reordered after a few minutes

2009-02-09 Thread schleprock
you can replicate the bug in the following manner:

rip a couple of cd's in mp3 format.
create a single playlist adding both cd's to the playlist in track order, ie
cd1's tracks first, cd2's tracks next. save off the playlist. now start up an
internet radio station. let the radio station play for a while (probably more
then a half hour). go back to the playlist of the cd's and you'll see that the
order of the playlist has changed from being in track order.

thanks,

[Bug 327369] [NEW] Lost in action: ability to manage keyrings

2009-02-09 Thread hggdh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: seahorse

While looking at a question posed to the evolution-list on changing the
keyring password, I noticed that seahorse-preferences does not provide
keyring management options:

- creating additional keyrings (well, this one is in seahorse
(File/New/Password Keyring, it just does not work)
- changing a keyring passphrase.

Even if password synchronicity is working (i.e., I change my login
password and the default keyring password is automagically changed),
which I have not yet tested, I would still like to be able to create
additional keyrings, or disable integration.

[Bug 184741] Re: evince displays form data in a pdf file incorrectly

2009-02-09 Thread Jean Christophe André
I would say this check-boxes display problem has been corrected in
poppler 0.10.3, available in Jaunty.

Ref.: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19359#c3

I am using Intrepid and I have just installed poppler 0.10.3 straight
from Jaunty (without even rebuilding since it's a new version number)
and backported Evince from Jaunty sources (really just rebuild) and it's
working correctly with your document: the check-mark is on No.

On my side I still get problems with radio-buttons which do not get selected at
all with this error message:
Error: Missing 'Tf' operator in field's DA string

And check-boxes and radio-buttons status do not get saved when saving a
copy of the form, but that's another issue and I'm looking for another
bug report on that point.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn

bug in gnome-control-center.
For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications

[Bug 301174] Re: Annoying system beep plays instead of alert sound

2009-02-09 Thread Gunnar Steinn
This also happens to me with a Dell Latitude D830.
I upgraded to Jaunty and whenever the PC Speaker is supposed to play this very
annoying sounds plays... nothing close to a normal pc speaker!
I've tried rmmod pcspkr which makes the sound come less often but still every
few minutes when I do something wrong.
Changing sound volumes does nothing to the sound.

If I reboot to the Intrepid kernel this problem goes away.

[Bug 131227] Re: notification-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in strcmp()

Not sure what the procedure is, here. How do we go about testing
whether the patch worked for us? Wait for the next alpha/beta, or will
it eventually go into the repository and we'll get it as an update, or
what.

[Bug 326967] Re: can't go to next image with the mouse

2009-02-09 Thread Jérôme
For example, with GQView I use the scroll button of the mouse for moving
to the next or the previous image or just click on the left button to go
to the next image.

This is also the default behavior of the image viewer a widely used OS
to which the users of my Ubuntu box may come back if they continue to
get such a bad experience.

[Bug 326917] Re: Italian translation fails for some Nautilus menu entries, English is used instead

2009-02-09 Thread Damiano Dallatana
I have really similar issues - hard to understand and really diffused on my
Gnome desktop.
I am using Ubuntu 8.10 amd64 with -backports and -proposed on, with
language-support-it installed. I am really used to reading English text on my
pc, so I became aware of this problem only when it was too late to understand
which package ruined everything. However, it seems to be strictly related to
nautilus.

Examples of English-only parts of my desktop:
* back, forward, up and search in Nautilus
* selector of nautilus lateral panel (Places/Information/Tree/...)
* Nautilus preferences (Edit - Preferences - except some scattered Italian
phrases)
* File operations window - and merge or overwrite confirmation windows

I am at your disposal for every information you may need.

My distribution is ubuntu 8.10 and is uptodate.

pulseaudio is installed 0.9.10.2ubuntu9.3
I have also installed padevchooser.

My computer is a Dell XPS M1330. Everything works fine but it's

Consequently, I can't use skype on ubuntu, neither use sound recorder

My computer has two systems, dual boot with XP Vista and Linux and the

2009-02-09 Thread aenertia
Actually this is not a firefox / nm interaction issue at all ( I have seen
this one, and know how to work around it).

It is purely network-manager failing to correctly manage network devices. It
is more an issue of not having populated device entries correctly and then
not being able to manage them through the various gui tools.

not just a FF issue.

[Bug 297431] Re: impossible to override Application menus

2009-02-09 Thread André Pirard
What more than 2 persons reporting the same bug and providing the same very
simple and obvious patch is needed to move an Ubuntu bug out of New status 3
months after it's been reported?
Does Ubuntu REALLY want to hear from its users?
Especially from patch providers?
Is it a Low priority that the menu system worked according to specs?

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Removing /tmp is an action only root can perform. This isn't
considered a security problem. Additionally, many local denial of service

[Bug 327465] [NEW] HIG problem with my previous fix

2009-02-09 Thread Bruce Cowan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

My patch on bug #159996 desensitises the Desktop Effects tab if compiz
isn't installed. According to GNOME HIG 6.3.1
(http://library.gnome.org/devel/hig-book/stable/controls-
sensitivity.html.en), there should be an indication as to why something
is insensitive. I will follow up with a patch that does this later.

Status in gdm source package in Ubuntu: Invalid

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: gdm

Accidentally removed my /tmp directory the other day and rebooted for
another reason. When I tired to login back in to my account via GDM
(GNOME), I am presented with an error message that is thrown by xsession.
The error message does not indicate that the /tmp directory doesn't exist.

The fix is quite simple; reboot to recovery mode and open a root shell. By
doing this, the /tmp directory is automatically created. Now you can once
 again login via GDM.

Tested and reproduced on Ubuntu 8.04.2.

This essentially created a Denial of Service condition - one can simply
remove /tmp and it will prevent local users from logging in via GDM.
