Hi there, it turns out that our LDAP install was screwy. It's now
working all ok and evolution has a clean bill of health!

Thankyou for getting back to me!! :)

kind regards, jules

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue
 for you? Thanks in advance.

Status in evolution source package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: evolution

 Our server is mail.jaars.org

for ID we have to use our whole email address.

 e.g. john_br...@sil.org

The domain is NOT mail.jaars.org. The domain is sil.org.

We use SSL. Authentification is DN. Port 636.

Evolution never asks for a password but simply says the server is spelled
 wrong or not available.

Our whole organization of 7000 can't use this feature with Evolution because
 of this problem.

[Bug 126333] Re: Regression - Volume Control using gnome panel applet and keyboard shortcut alternates mute / % volume during sliding

2009-02-14 Thread zen0
Definitely not fixed for me in Intrepid.
I have one USB audio device that has only a PCM mixer, so the workaround does
not apply.
I want to assign it to a dial on my keyboard, but any adjustment will mute 1
channel, etc.
can only adjust with alsamixer-curses. good thing I prefer to use an external
volume w/that device.

[Bug 282345] Re: all calendar entries gone after update to 2.22.3.1

2009-02-14 Thread Olaf
Pedro, thanks for your message.

This is currently not an issue for me because I have switched to
Thunderbird+Lightning in the meantime. I have therefore stopped to look
for a solution to this issue and cannot give you any news.

I tried to remove and re-install evolution but still was not able to get
the Evolution calendar working again. Someone suggested that this might
be an authorisation issue, which I tried to fix by changeing everything
in the .evolution folder to 644 - but still had no success. I did not
want to re-install Ubuntu or upgrade to 8.10, and therefore found it
easiest to use Thunderbird/Lightning instead.

I would love to use Evolution again and will give it a try once I have
installed Ubuntu 8.10/9.04, mainly because I like the timezone features
and Gnome integration. What made me worry a bit about Evolution was the
difficulty to backup data (spread in different folders which need to be
in sync) and its apparent instability, which may very well have been
caused by myself fiddling with backups or authorisations. Thanks for
your effort to make Evolution even better!

[Bug 329350] [NEW] two menu entries in Jaunty

2009-02-14 Thread David Prieto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

I'm using Brasero 2.25.90 on Jaunty. It shows two menu entries:

-apps→ sound and video→ brasero
-apps → system tools → disc burner

The latter seems to open a nautilus window showing the cd creator, whose
launcher used to be in the places menu but now isn't there anymore.

Please, either move the launcher back to the places menu or remove it
altogether.

[Bug 154037] Re: files from ~ shown on desktop (desktop_is_home_dir == false)

2009-02-14 Thread 164747
Had the same experience on hardy. I had my sym-linked to a folder under
an nfs-moint, but one time there was a problem mounting, so the Desktop
was a broken link (to the a nfs-folder).

When this happened the file ~/.config/users.dir was either created or
changed and the important variable here was set

XDG_DESKTOP_DIR=$HOME/

Changing this variable solved my problem (home folder displayed on
dekstop). So in my case, this may not be a bug, because it is not
obvious what the system shall do when the Desktop is a broken link.

[Bug 328632] [NEW] gnome-thumbnail-font high cpu usage

2009-02-14 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When browsing directories with pictures, eventually previews stop being
shown and gnome-thumbnail-font begins using %50 to %100 of the CPU.
Expected behavior is to show previews and not have high CPU usage.

Upon loading upon my desktop, I am able to view the preview icons in
nautilus. However, after going through a few directories, previews will
stop showing and a process shows up gnome-thumbnail-font which takes
%50 CPU usage and sometimes higher. The system starts responding slowly
and sound skips. Killing the tasks solves the CPU usage, and the
thumbnails will then show up. If I start browsing directories again, it
will eventually reoccur. I've deleted the .thumbnails in my home
directory a few times but it didn't help. I did not have this issue in
Ibex, only in the latest alpha of Jaunty with all updates applied.

[Bug 329389] [NEW] Party mode ununderstandable and undocumented

2009-02-14 Thread era
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

The manual does not explain what party mode is. The status bar help
text is not helpful at all; when you hover the cursor over the Party
Mode menu entry, it laconically says Change the status of the party
mode. (Is that even English?)

I was scared that it would ruin all my playlists and send my email
address to the spammers, but I tried it anyway. It seems to toggle a
full-screen view. Then why is it not called Full Screen? Does it do
something more?

The top Google hit http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=694932 seems
inconclusive to me. Does Party mode involve changes in how the play
queue can be manipulated and/or how the computer can be used?

Minimal fix:
 * Describe Party Mode in the on-line help

Bonus points:
 * Improve the Status bar help text

[Bug 303023] Re: Nautilus desktop icons won't load

2009-02-14 Thread OxfordEthical.co.uk
I was having this issue almost all of the time, but when I took a screenshot to
attach to this post I realised what was happening. As you can see from the
attached image, I have two monitors with the desktop spread over them, the
left-hand one is a smaller 15 and the right-hand a larger 17. I had set the
screen resolutions differently, so the 15 had 1024x768 and the 17 had
1280x1024. Rather than making the desktop non-rectangular as I had expected, it
was rectangular at double the 17 size. Thus the icons were still on the
desktop, but off the top of the 15 screen, and I didn't see them until I
took a screenshot of the whole desktop!
Its probably not the problem everyone in this thread is having, but it may be
worth just checking your PC doesn't think that you have two screens attached
and is putting the icons on the one you don't have (for instance if you are
using a laptop check that you haven't got an external screen configured etc.).
An issue that may or may not be relevant is that the buttons in the bottom
panel which show which applications are open and allow you to switch between
them mostly aren't showing (again see the screenshot).

Somewhere in a dot-file, or within xml-file. By creating a new user, there is

[Bug 329402] [NEW] [Jaunty] gnome-display-properties doesn't detect monitors

2009-02-14 Thread Niclas L
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

When an additional monitor is attached after a login, gnome-display-properties
does not find it when clicking Detect Monitors.
Running xrandr --auto in the terminal makes the secondary monitor start and
show the desktop.
This also adds the monitor to gnome-display-properties.
I suppose this shows that the back end finds the monitor while the front end
doesn't?

If the monitor already is attached when you log on, the display shows up
though.

[Bug 329410] [NEW] does not set configured resolutions at GNOME startup any more

2009-02-14 Thread Martin Pitt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

I have an external TFT screen (1280x1024) and an internal TFT
(1280x800). I have set the screen resolution applet to enable the
external one with its full resolution and disable the internal TFT. This
has worked fine for ages, but since the new control capplet this seems
to have broken: GNOME always starts with 1024x768 on both screens, so I
always have to reconfigure my screen settings after login.

It might be that the format changed and gnome-settings-daemon needs to
be updated to follow suit?

This is xrandr after reconfiguration, the way I want it:

[Bug 328444] Re: gnome-terminal shortcuts: Alt+Shift+1 shows as Alt+! etc.

2009-02-14 Thread Matti Viljanen
First, having Alt-!, Alt-@ and so on in tabs menu is wrong, and it
doesn't let the user follow the logic 1 for first tab, 2 for second
tab etc., instead it makes the user look for the non-numeric
characters, causing confusion among non-exprerienced users.

Second, have a look at eg. New Tab and Close Tab shortcut entries -
Ctrl-Shift-T and Ctrl-Shift-W are given.

My point is that if a shortcut requires pressing Ctrl, Shift and number
1 keys, they should be all displayed, instead of the character some
combination may give and not including one or more required keys!

Does this behaviour occur in any other Gnome programs? At least Gnome's
own shortcut manager application shows Alt-Shift-1 as Alt-Shift-! which
is not as bad but not right...

[Bug 324925] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV when turning off show_desktop

Being ready to throw gdb, valgrind and ltrace at the crash again, I found that

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/328341

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand my attempts to get a good
backtrace have been futile anyway because the whole trace looks invalid.
None of its addresses even lie in executable memory. I guess no amount
of debug symbols could have fixed that.

[Bug 329409] Re: crashes when opening .mp4 files

2009-02-14 Thread Hew McLachlan
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 329429] [NEW] GIMP Print Size several millimetres off

2009-02-14 Thread Tomas Ingo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gimp

I was surprised when I printed a picture from the GIMP. It was supposed
to be 17.1 cm by 10.1 cm (see screenshot), but on the paper the width
became 16.6 cm (5 mm off!) while the height was ok. Before this I
printed another picture that was supposed to be 12.7 cm by 17.8 cm, but
on the paper the width was just 12.3 cm. Also here the height was ok.

I printed to an Epson Stylus DX3850 which is shared on a Windows
machine. I printed on Inkjet Paper with Best quality and Image Type set
to Graphics.

The image is a supplement for the board game Arkham Horror, and it was
downloaded from the Fantasy Flight Games website
(http://new.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_minisite_sec.asp?eidm=6esem=4).

It's hard to tell as the change was so small, but I think the printed
image looks a tiny bit squeezed horizontally.

I use GIMP 2.4.5-1ubuntu2 in Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy)

2009-02-14 Thread Dave
I haven't seen this bug lately, but I haven't been making heavy use of
Gimp either. I'll attempt to reproduce it again in the next few days and
update this ticket with my results.

Thanks for your attention to this issue.

[Bug 28805] Re: gnome-sound-properties dialog too high

2009-02-14 Thread Ying-Chun Liu (GrandPaul)
Yes, I was moving things to right side long time ago but later I found
it's not really good for some PC resolution only 800x480.

That why my original patches (for other later apps and not attached
here) usually guaranteed that the application do fit in 640x480.

Currently we don't have projects that really use 800x480 but since most
Microsoft apps do fit in 640x480, we should consider to archive the same thing.
Microsoft Windows and Microsoft-made apps runs good on netbooks without
modification because I guess their policy is 640x480.

So if we move Default Mixer Tracks to right side, then it may not fit
into 800x480, which is bad to EeePC 1st generation.

[Bug 203527] Re: Clicking on clock applet hangs gnome-panel

2009-02-14 Thread marmuta
I can see this happening on current Jaunty 9.04 too, but it started only some
days ago. The panel just locks up when clicking the clock. 'evolution
--force-shutdown' doesn't help here either and I'm not using google accounts.
What helps is starting evolution to the calendar page, ie evolution
--component=calendar. I can open the clock just fine then. However evolution
--component=contacts locks the panel and shows an error Evolution Error, The
Evolution address book has quit unexpectedly. and evolution-data-server-2.26
is gone. I'll attach a trace of evolution-data-server too, looks like it failed
an assertion.

Re: [Bug 294764] Re: File-roller extract result is corrupted.

2009-02-14 Thread Jussi
The zip file content license doesn't allow distribution. It is windows
software that I needed to run in virtualbox.
Luckily I don't need any windows software anymore. Also I haven't
noticed any problems lately.
So maybe problem is in windows made zip files.
What is the unzip command that fileroller uses?

There seems to be different commands for windows archives...

-O CHARSET specify a character encoding for DOS, Windows and OS/2 archives
-I CHARSET specify a character encoding for UNIX and other archives

Correcly working command is unzip file.zip or unzip file.zip -d
exdir.

Status in file-roller source package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: file-roller

When I extract big (about 200Mbytes) zip file (with many directories). Result
 is corrupted.
So far happened only with one zip file (I don't have other files to test
 with).
Nautilus shows that some of the files are turn into type: link (broken).
Corrupted files are all (atleast in my case) binary files.

Zip file itself is ok, because Zipper ( http://xanthippe.dyndns.org/Zipper/ )
 extracts it successfully.

I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 with File Roller 2.24.1.
