[Bug 329638] Re: Document Viewer 2.24.1 closes viewing .pdf-files larger than 20 MB
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding. ** Changed in: evince (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- Document Viewer 2.24.1 closes viewing .pdf-files larger than 20 MB https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/329638 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evince in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 329650] [NEW] Auto mounted CD should always have an Explore option. Right click menu should also have a Properties item.
Public bug reported: A friend recently gave me a DVD which contained a couple of VOBs of his band playing gigs from which he wanted me extract a couple of songs for YouTube. So I insert the DVD into my Linux machine, it was auto mounted, and an icon appears on the GNOME panel with the options of Play and Eject $DVD_LABEL. Sadly neither of these options are of use as I want to know where the DVD is mounted so I can browse it. Additionally when I right click on the icon in the panel the menu doesn't contain a Properties item which would allow me to see where the DVD has been mounted. I therefore have *no clue whatsoever* where the item has been mounted or how to get to it so I can access the files it contains (in reality I know that DVDs are mounted in /media so I was able to find the files but the GNOME desktop gives me no idea where the DVD had been mounted) I therefore propose two things. Firstly that the menu shown against all removable media (anything that causes an icon to be added to the panel) should always have an option for Explore on it. No exceptions. When this option is selected the item in question should be explored. If necessary the volume should also be transparently automounted first. Secondly it should be a standard that everything visible to the user as an icon should have a Properties item available on it's right click menu that will always give basic information about the object. i.e. similar to the item available when you right click an item in the right hand pane of a Nautilus Window (note this is only on the right hand pane, again this functionality is missing from items in the left hand Nautilus panes) In Windows Explorer you have the option to double click an object representing removable media which will launch the default action for the item (for DVDs this is to play them with the default media player) However there is always an Explore action available which, for users like me, is regularly used (In fact I never double click media icons as, even though I run with it switched off, this could also cause the items autoplay rubbish to be run infecting my machine with a Sony rootkit etc. etc.). Again in Windows when you right click almost any icon (or list view item) you can get a properties window which will give you basic information about the item. Invariably the General tab contains the location of the item in the file system which is invaluable. Without this functionality GNOME is severly lacking when compared to Windows. ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Auto mounted CD should always have an Explore option. [Bug 329655] [NEW] Launchpad bug reporting should have a preview function.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus Firstly I'm sorry to raise this against nautilus but there is no option to raise bugs against Launchpad itself, I couldn't raise a bug against any package that contained the word Launchpad (despite them being offered in the Choose dialogue) and I couldn't find anywhere else to raise the such a bug (Googling for how to do this simply gives thousands of hits on how to use Launchpad to raise bugs against various products) . This feature request therefore relates to the behaviour of page: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+filebug#form-start When using launchpad to report a bug it would be nice to have a preview function which would allow me to see the bug report as it will look when posted. That way I might catch my spelling and grammar errors before a bug is posted (it's far easier to read text on a page as opposed to in an edit box) This function should work similarly to the preview function used in many bulletin boards (PHPBB) and Slashdot, etc. where an edit box is always presented with a submit and preview button. In fact it's not a pain to be always forced to preview your post at least once as I, for one, don't seem able to spot mistakes in an edit control as easily as I can when I'm reading a page (probably because my brain is in edit rather than read mode :) ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Launchpad bug reporting should have a preview function. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/329655 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 58205] Re: Should provide Right-Click-Format...
I agree that this is a bug and was indeed going to write a bug report myself but came across this one. Thanks Paul :) Paul has mentioned all the places where an average user would search for this task, but here is what should also be taken into account: 1. Formatting an usb stick should NOT request admin priviledges. - In a business environment, this should be a task that a user can do himself, without contacting the support personnel (this is why I had to take my workplace's usb stick home to be formatted, as our office's Windows XP did not let me do it...). 2. There should be a choice for which file system to use. - This should default to the one already residing on the stick for a fast re-format, but should the user need to, there would be an options-button for a full list of file systems to use. [Bug 300017] [NEW] Create folder is greyed out on SFTP remote folders when UID/GID doesn't match
You have been subscribed to a public bug: If you connect to a remote SFTP folder, the UID and GID is interpreted using the local users and groups database. This makes the Create Folder and Create Document options to be greyed out. I'm aware of bugs like 229270 and 9252, but I am reporting this as a separate issue because it is not the same to display ownerships than to prevent the user from doing working. If SFTP permissions are known to be misinterpreted, just don't make the Create Folder / Create Document / Paste menu items availability depend on those while the bug is being fixed. I'm sure I do have correct permissions: if I log in to the SSH server and cd to the path, creating the folder through the shell works. ** Affects: gvfs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Create folder is greyed out on SFTP remote folders when UID/GID doesn't match https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/300017 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gvfs in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 190848] Re: font in terminal does not resemble font in preview
On a fresh installation, I have just removed the /etc/fonts/conf.d/10-antialias.conf file and the font appearance in gnome-terminal behaves correctly (hinting and antialiasing ) In fact, the smoothing on small fonts is the main reason that hurts my eyes. After deeper testing, I notice that the hinting setting in System - Appearance Preferences - Details does not affect the gnome-terminal. So I suggest as other persons to remove all 10-* in /etc/fonts/conf.d $ cd /etc/fonts/conf.d $ sudo rm 10-* I made my testing using the msttfonts (Verdana and Courrier New) and liberation fonts (Sans and Mono) size 10 System - Appearance Preferences - Rendering = Monochrome System - Appearance Preferences - Details - Resolution = 96dpi System - Appearance Preferences - Details - Smoothing = None System - Appearance Preferences - Details - Hinting = Full System - Appearance Preferences - Details - SubPixelOrder = RGB ( not use because Smoothing is None ) See the result in attachment. ** Attachment added: Screenshot.png http://launchpadlibrarian.net/22657165/Screenshot.png -- font in terminal does not resemble font in preview https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/190848 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 329870] [NEW] slideshow should always start from oldest photos to newest regardless of view modality
Public bug reported: If I don't select opposite order as photos view modality (view - opposite order), that is f-spot displays photos starting from newest to oldest, slideshow should always run in opposite order modality, that is from oldest photos to newest. Actually, if you don't select opposite order, slideshow start from newest photos to oldest. I think this is not a natural way of viewing photos in slideshow. Another way could be providing an option to select a reverse order to slideshow modality too. ** Affects: f-spot (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: whishlist ** Summary changed: - slideshow should always start from older photos to newer regardless of view modality + slideshow should always start from oldest photos to newest regardless of view modality ** Tags added: whishlist -- slideshow should always start from oldest photos to newest regardless of view modality https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/329870 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to f-spot in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. I can confirm this bug in Ubuntu 8.10. I will check if the bug is reported upstream, if not I will report and link here. ** Description changed: Binary package hint: gthumb On ubuntu 8.10 (with gnome) the shortcut alt + s is supposed to open the rezise tool (int the image submenu) doesn't work. [Bug 329881] [NEW] Weather applet uses defunct station for Berlin weather
Public bug reported: When Berlin is selected as a location in Gnome's weather applet or clock applet, it hits the URL http://weather.noaa.gov/cgi- bin/mgetmetar.pl?=EDDI which is the Tempelhof weather station. Since Tempelhof airport closed on Oct 30 last year, it's not very surprising that the last weather report for that station is on that same day. Up until fairly recently, the weather applet showed three choices for Berlin - Tegel, Tempelhof, and Schoenefeld. Now it only shows one choice, and just happens to be using the defunct Tempelhof weather station. It was certainly a little surprising to see it reporting 4° C for the last month or so, day and night, even when it was snowing outside. The next best station for Berlin would probably be Tegel, which is station code EDDT. ** Affects: libgweather Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Affects: libgweather (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: libgweather (Fedora) Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Bug watch added: Red Hat Bugzilla #470099 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=470099 ** Also affects: libgweather (Fedora) via https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=470099 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #567607 http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=567607 ** Also affects: libgweather via http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=567607 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Changed in: libgweather (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: gnome-applets = libgweather -- Weather applet uses defunct station for Berlin weather https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/329881 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-applets in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
