[Bug 137247] Re: libpam-keyring broken on autologins

2009-02-17 Thread Christian A. Reiter
The problem is that it still doesn't work.
We (the users) don't know exactly what package is the culprit. You can change
the package if you know another one contains the error.
But the bug is *not* fixed, please change the status to that.

Test:
Connect to a wireless network, reboot - at autologin it reconnects
automatically.
Then change your (login) password - you have to *manually* change the keyring
password to the same one, otherwise NM won't connect automatically to the
wireless network.

[Bug 330437] [NEW] impossible to clear trash-bin when it contains read-only folders

2009-02-17 Thread Leonid Evdokimov
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 8.10
Release:8.10

I have nautilus-1:2.24.1-0ubuntu2

Steps to reproduce:

Copy directory with some subdirectories from CD to home directory and delete it
to trash.
Try to empty trash — and you'll get message Error while deleting file:
Permission denied.
Try to empty trash with gnome applet menu (right-click on the trash icon in the
taskbar gives menu and Empty trash is one of its items) and it'll show you
progress-bar and will finish cleanup without any error but files will be left
in the trash.
If you try to change permissions for the folder inside of trash, you get error
message the action is not supported by the driver.

Possible workaround is to run `chmod -R u+w
~/.local/share/Trash/files/*`.

[Bug 137247] Re: libpam-keyring broken on autologins

2009-02-17 Thread Bogdan Butnaru
You know, I've been hearing this ever since NM appeared, and I still
don't understand why. SSH keeps *private*keys* in plain text files,
protected by nothing but file folder permissions (it allows users to
enter a passphrase, but doesn't even protest if they don't).

I don't see why WPA network keys are that much more secret than private
keys that doing the same would be *very* quick and dirty, especially
since they're almost always shared between several people.

[Bug 330221] Re: Won't play mp3s unless crossfading is turned on or fluendo mp3 plugin installed

2009-02-17 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
it's impossible to play mp3 files without the right codecs installed,
you maybe have another package installed which is causing the conflict,
could you run : dpkg -l |grep gstreamer gstreamer.txt and attach the
resulting file to the report? and also please attach a rhyhtmbox log
while running it with rhythmbox --debug rhythmbox-debug.txt anda
ttaching that file as well, thanks.

[Bug 192469] Re: [hardy] nautilus crash with Segmentation fault right clicking on Properties of an image file

2009-02-17 Thread Tom Pino
I found this by searching for nautilus segmentation fault just now.

I am on a little used i9stallation on my second HDD. I use this partition for
backup primarily. I wanted to dump some files on an installation of Mandriva
and tried to pull up nautilus and got this:
[code]
t...@backup:~$ sudo nautilus
Initializing nautilus-share extension
seahorse nautilus module initialized
Segmentation fault
t...@backup:~$
[/code]
I am running Hardy still on 2.6.24-19. This is a x86-64 box.

Just thought I'd through this in to make things more interesting.

2009-02-17 Thread Laci
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Hi there!

I've had problems with evolution since august last year. Then i've

Then i moved to ubuntu 8.10 and i could use evolution very fine till mid
december 2008 then sudenly i've could'nt send any email again. Sadly for
me this problem persist.

The error text is very simple: not been able to send the email, could'nt

Since i've used with succes evolution during oct, nov and mid dec last
year i have not changed nothing at all and i've not updated the system.

[Bug 230383] Re: gthumb does not put deleted items into the new trash system on hardy

2009-02-17 Thread Michael Chudobiak
Christophe Bisière's patches are part of a much larger change in svn
trunk, and can not be used against the 2.10.x series.

The transition from gnomevfs to gfile is going dreadfully slowly, due to
a lack of upstream developer time and interest.

If any Ubuntu developers would like to speed this up, please take a look
at http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=525482.

[Bug 330557] [NEW] nautilus crash right clicking on Properties of an image file

2009-02-17 Thread Peter Watkins
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Note: opening new ticket per Pedro Villavicencio's note on
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/192469
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/192469/comments/7)

As noted in earlier bug ticket, Sometimes, right clicking on image file
and selecting Properties, nautilus crash.

I'm seeing the same problem, and also have an empty /var/crash directory.
Running hardy 8.04.2 x86_64, all packages up to date. This sounds like the same
bug reported here for Fedora:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=472439 as a bug in libexempi (and
apparently resolved for Fedora). Use the .exv sample data in that ticket's
initial entry to reproduce. That is:
 1) make a JPEG (I used Gimp to convert a PNG screenshot to JPEG)
 2) install exiv2
 3) use exiv2 to remove any metadata from the image from step 1
 4) save the Fedora bugzilla sample bad .exv with the same basename as the JPEG
made in step 1
 5) use exiv2 to import the bugzilla sample metadata into the jpeg
 6) in Nautilus, right-click on the image icon and request its properties.

Or just try viewing the properties of the JPEG I'm attaching now (which
uses the Fedora bugzilla sample metadata)... crashes Nautilus for me
every time I request its properties (as do a number of my own pictures,
taken with a Canon camera).

Is this a security problem? Seems plausible, but I have not made any
attempt to determine if the bug is exploitable.

I've recently bought my daughter an ASUS Eee PC900 and it's just the ticket.
Cheers
Ashley

[Bug 122993] Re: ondemand governor does not use maximum frequency under load

2009-02-17 Thread LuisG
I can confirm this on a laptop AMD Turion X2 RM-70, Intrepid AMD64.

At first I was mesmerized to find Avidemux running 4 times faster in
Vista than in Ubuntu on the same machine. Then I realized it was not
using all its cpu power, so I changed the cpufreq governor to
'Performance' and it worked as expected.

However, I consider this to be a workaround and not a desired behavior:
I don't want to fry my laptop by letting it run all night long at 100%
just because I forgot to change cpufreq back to normal.

$ uname -a
Linux cpu3 2.6.27-11-generic #1 SMP Thu Jan 29 19:28:32 UTC 2009 x86_64
GNU/Linux

[Bug 330199] Re: filters don't always apply

2009-02-17 Thread Mark Dillavou
I ran evolution with the following command:

CAMEL_DEBUG=all evolution  evolution.log

This unfortunately created a 60 meg log file and has a lot of personal
data in there that I am not comfortable posting. I will be happy to to
look through it or send you parts of the log file if you can tell which
parts you need.

As far as reproducing this bug, here's how I have evolution setup. I am
connecting to gmail using imap. I don't have any tags setup in gmail,
so everything comes through in the INBOX. I have setup custom labels
inside of evolution. I then setup filters similar to:

if sender is b...@blah' then set label 'work'

I even have a catch-all filter (the very first filter) that is:

if all then set label 'inbox'

I then have virtual folders setup to display messages based on their
labels. Most of the time messages are filtered correctly and the
virtual folders display them correctly. But several times a day, I'll
get a batch of new messages that don't seem to get filtered (they don't
even match the all filter that sets the 'inbox' label).

I have noticed something odd. Occaisionally I'll get new messages which
appear to be filtered correctly, and I can see that I'll have unread
messages in my virtual folders. But as soon as I click on a virtual
folder, the messages dissapear from that folder and the unread count
goes back down to zero. The messages are still marked as unread in my
imap INBOX, but they seem to have lost all their labels that the filters
should have applied.

So I wonder if my filters are working correctly, but for some reason,
messages are losing their labels?
