[Bug 331775] Re: Cannot save as when to rights to write over original file
I was just "patching" this https://bugs.launchpad.net/timevault/+bug/156856 bug in TimeVault, therefore the file was /usr/lib/python2.5/.../server.py (with regular user I can read but not write it). I opened it from Gnome Terminal, typing gedit The working directory at the moment was probably ~ . When I got the error banner, I did not close it, nor did I try to close it and then try to save - it should work even without closing. [Bug 318689] Re: gnome-system-log attempts to open bogus/inexistent logfiles
Thanks for pointing that out Steve. I moved an existing /home/ mount into the Jaunty environment. Now you've jogged my memory I think I do recall that with the default Jaunty user profile I saw a bunch of log- file warnings too. Now I only see one for /var/log/acpid. The reason for it is that on package gnome-utils the gnome-log-viewer code has the defaults hard-coded in. logview/logview-prefs.c: static char *default_logfiles[] = { "/var/log/sys.log", #ifndef ON_SUN_OS "/var/log/messages", "/var/log/secure", "/var/log/maillog", "/var/log/cron", "/var/log/Xorg.0.log", "/var/log/XFree86.0.log", "/var/log/auth.log", "/var/log/cups/error_log", #else so what we need is a simple patch to alter the defaults ** Attachment added: "Jaunty debdiff" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/22902041/gnome-utils_2.25.90-0ubuntu2.debdiff -- gnome-system-log attempts to open bogus/inexistent logfiles https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/318689 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Hrm, I'm unable to reproduce this in jaunty with gnome-control-center 1:2.25.90-0ubuntu2 in a vm with an 800x600 resolution; even when reducing it 640x480, it still results in three themes per row by default. [Bug 249958] Re: touching a fullscreen application with the mousepointer puts it in front
Thanks for the kind words Michael, however I think they miss the main point: Michael Rooney wrote: > Tomas, if your emails aren't getting to Launchpad then we have no way to triage your bugs You are right. > From the perspective of anyone looking at the bug, you aren't responding. That's however not entirely correct. I clearly stated how the bug can be reproduced. I doubt Nick Ellery tried to follow my steps, I certainly might be misstaken though. Nevertheless I replied to his inquiry one month later, again with instructions, without any visible action from anybody on this bug to this day. The bug wasn't even confirmed alltough it's quite trivial to do so. The next question was Pedro Villavicencio's boilerplate (see LP:331767 for a discussion of that particular process) which I suspect is a semi- automatic script intended to expire inactive bugs. Is it? > If it is a recurring issue (I've never heard of anyone else having troubles) then just visit the actual bug page and leave your comments there to ensure they go through. If anybody is serious about fixing bugs, then please do reproduce it, the instructions are there and not difficult. If the goal is to expire as many bugs as possible, then don't count me in taking the time ever again to reply to one of those boilerplates, where it's "author" didn't care either to reproduce or fix the bug. -- touching a fullscreen application with the mousepointer puts it in front https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/249958 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 327757] Re: Evince displays wrong font for PDF Courier basefont
Fontconfig is the culprit. Evince calls Popper which calls FcFontSort in libfontconfig to find the font most similar to "Courier." The first font it gets is "Nimbus Mono L", "Bold Oblique". The right font is actually the next one, "Nimbus Mono L", "Regular". I see this on "Hardy Heron" as well as "Intrepid Ibex." The problem is not visible in Evince or Poppler on "Ibex", probably due to extensive changes in Poppler. It may affect anything that calls libfontconfig, however. On "Heron", I hard wired Evince to choose the second font and everything worked perfectly. I've attached a code fragment (fchello.c) modelled on the part of Poppler calling libfontconfig. To compile it do: cc -c -o fchello.o fchello.c cc -o fchello fchello.o -lfontconfig The first lines of output look like this: > 0: "Nimbus Mono L", "Bold Oblique", > "/usr/share/fonts/type1/gsfonts/n022024l.pfb" > 1: "Nimbus Mono L", "Regular", "/usr/share/fonts/type1/gsfonts/n022003l.pfb" > 2: "Nimbus Mono L", "Bold", "/usr/share/fonts/type1/gsfonts/n022004l.pfb" > 3: "Nimbus Mono L", "Regular Oblique", > "/usr/share/fonts/type1/gsfonts/n022023l.pfb" > 4: "DejaVu Sans Mono", "Book", > "/usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-dejavu/DejaVuSansMono.ttf" Note that "fc-match Courier" does the right thing (see above) even though this way of calling libfontconfig does the wrong thing. This is the "Ibex" release I tested: > Description: Ubuntu 8.10 > Release: 8.10 This is the version of libfontconfig: > libfontconfig1: > Installed: 2.6.0-1ubuntu4 > Candidate: 2.6.0-1ubuntu4 > Version table: > *** 2.6.0-1ubuntu4 0 > 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com intrepid/main Packages > 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status This is the "Heron" release I tested: > Description: Ubuntu 8.04.2 > Release: 8.04 This is the version of libfontconfig: > libfontconfig1: > Installed: 2.5.0-2ubuntu3 > Candidate: 2.5.0-2ubuntu3 > Version table: > *** 2.5.0-2ubuntu3 0 > 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Packages > 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ** Attachment added: "Code fragment demonstrates bug" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/22890843/fchello.c -- Evince displays wrong font for PDF Courier basefont https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/327757 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evince in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 331829] [NEW] Playlists lose songs after remounting external hard drive
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox Software: Rhythmbox Ver. 0.11.6 OS: Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex 8.10 with 2.6.27-11 kernel Arch.: i386 Expected Outcome: Rhythmbox caches the database of songs. Unmounting an external source should not have an effect on the library or playlists. Songs should be marked as missing in the library or listed under the "missing files" heading in the side pane. Remounting an external source should allow Rhythmbox to see the files are indeed available, then move the files from "missing" to the library and continue running as per normal. What Actually Happens: I use an external hard drive to store my roughly 100 gigabytes of music. When I start Rhythmbox with the external unmounted, I lose all tracks in my library. The tracks do not get listed as missing but rather the entire library is vacant. When I remount the the hard drive, this problem necessitates a full re-importation of all music files. This is not the larger problem, however: Once remounted and re-imported, all playlists are empty, including saved playlists. Loading saved playlists does nothing to solve the problem, remaining empty until files are re-added to said playlists. Able to Reproduce: Always. Steps: 1) Unmount external drive. 2) Start Rhythmbox. 3) Rhythmbox removes all files. 4) Quit Rhythmbox. 5) Mount drive. 6) Re-import all files as Rhythmbox does not do this on its own. 7) Playlists remain empty. Priority: Medium Severity: High Possible that this needs to be reported to upstream as this has been a problem for a long while. [Bug 331814] Re: can't type in password for terminal
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). Thanks! Is this happening when using sudo? If that's the case it's not a bug but a feature. The password isn't supposed to be shown on the screen. [Bug 314333] Re: Wrong startup music at first boot
I have tried to install a Jaunty alpha in a virtual machine but I couldn't get sound with it (the Preferences/Sound software wasn't even installed). I'll have to check if it works in a more recent Jaunty version. It might not be relevant but I've happened to installed the PPC version of Ubuntu on an iMac G5 and the sound preferences work as expected (I get the UbuntuStudio music at startup). I'm not sure if it comes from the different kernel (Ubuntu Intrepid PPC has 2.6.25.x) or a different piece of software. [Bug 249958] Re: touching a fullscreen application with the mousepointer puts it in front
Tomas, if your emails aren't getting to Launchpad then we have no way to triage your bugs. From the perspective of anyone looking at the bug, you aren't responding. I understand your frustration in that you are trying to communicate, but obviously no one else has any way of knowing that and the actions taken are quite logical in response (marking Incomplete or Invalid). If it is a recurring issue (I've never heard of anyone else having troubles) then just visit the actual bug page and leave your comments there to ensure they go through.
