[Bug 325414] Re: totem-gstreamer-video-thumbnailer crashed with SIGSEGV in memset()

2009-03-08 Thread Derrick Neve
I just got totem-gstreamer-video-thumbnailer crashed with SIGSEGV in
memset(). I was not running totem (as far as I know) but had just
emptied the trash and had clicked to close the window when I got this
message. I'm sorry but I don't have much more to say. Recent update
from 8.10 to 9.04 (but I'm going back or I'll never get any work done)

Happy hunting!

[Bug 339451] [NEW] import too slow - enable import button before preview complete

2009-03-08 Thread Sam Liddicott
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

I'm trying to import about 1700 photos from an NFS share, and
annoyingly the "import" button of the import dialog is disabled and
seems that it will remain disabled until all the image thumbnails have
loaded in the import dialog.

At 1 per second this is going to take half an hour just to be able to
click the import button - and then probably go through it all again as
it does the actual import.

Please allow the import to work while the thumbnails are being generated
- sometimes people just want to import a large folder and don't want to
inspect each thumbnail "just to be sure".

[Bug 339491] [NEW] [jaunty] strange desktop flickering makes desktop unusable, killing GSD is workaround

2009-03-08 Thread Gavin McCullagh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

Hi,

I ran an upgrade last night which upgraded a large number of packages,
presumably including the core gnome stuff.

When I logged in this morning gnome was very slow to start up. When
everything was finally present the screen elements kept flickering
horizontally (it's hard to describe to be honest) in a very distracting
way. I was going to kill GSD (from experience I suspected it was
reprobing constantly), but then it stopped after a minute or so. I
thought all was okay.

Then after another five minutes or so, the flickering started again. I
killed GSD and the issue immediately went away. I'm attaching my
.gnome-session-errors.

[Bug 339469] Re: Nautilus error

2009-03-08 Thread Chris Coulson
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How
to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 335895] Re: Rythmbox won't play any CD

2009-03-08 Thread JanBrinkmann
Thanks for the feedback. You can select the default multimedia player:

System -> Preferences -> Preferred Applications

It's also possible to startup an mediaplayer if you insert an audio CD.
Gnome asks you what to do when you insert a audio CD. Maybe you've told
gnome to remember you decision about 'do nothing'? Examining the
information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report
so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support
tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would
make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker
at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are
bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs .

[Bug 334844] Re: Totem error dialog: size makes errmsg unreadable

2009-03-08 Thread Jonas Kölker
> could you please attach your ~/.xsession-errors file to the report?
Well, I can attach some ~/.xsession-errors which happens to be mine, but it has
[acm]time after 2009-03-08 10:00:00, so it's probably not the one you want.

$ totem --version
GNOME totem 2.24.3

$ lsb_release -a
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 8.10
Release:8.10
Codename: intrepid

(I run a few Jaunty packages)

Also, I should probably clarify: the bug isn't the error message, but
that the message is hard to read. If the error message itself is also a
bug, that's cool, but shouldn't it be a distinct bug report?

[Bug 339513] [NEW] Jaunty: selecting new theme has no effect on window title bar with compositing enabled

2009-03-08 Thread Dominik

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

System version is 9.04 development branch

Computer is Acer Ferrari 3000, Athlon 2500+, chipset VIA KM400, graphics

When compositing is enabled selecting a new theme in Appearance does not
affect the window title bar. This remains stuck on the previous setting
and has to be changed manually using (translated from another language,
sorry if inaccurate) Custom -> Window decoration.

With compositing effects off the theme changes correctly.

[Bug 46548] Re: Include big analog clock as screensaver

2009-03-08 Thread PT2K
Tormod Volden, thanks for your nice suggestions. I'm sorry I'm late to reply.
I didn't know how to make XLIb (xscreensaver) program, so I waste too much time
on googling.
Now, I made it. Maybe it works. Test, please.

[Bug 339504] Re: gdm depends on transitional package

2009-03-08 Thread Hew McLachlan
Thanks for your report. gdm 2.20.8-0ubuntu10 is in Jaunty, and
2.20.8-0ubuntu6 already removed the dependency on xbase-clients. Please
see the relevant changelog:

"don't depends on xbase-clients the depends workarounded an old xorg
issue".

Closing as this issue has already been taken care of.

[Bug 339527] [NEW] 8cm/200MB CDR not recognised - unable to use.

2009-03-08 Thread Acarya
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

Brasero 0.8.2 running on UbuntuStudio 8.10 64bits.

When I insert an 8cm CDR (200MB), Brasero does not show its size, and it
is impossible to write something to it. Same CDR 'just works' with the
Nautilus CD/DVD Creator.

Using an 8cm DVD (1.4GB) does work,so it's not about physical size.

Suggestions:
- Cleanup *.in.in files?
- Also cleanup the already created debian/control?
- Use something like this in debian/rules: find . -not \( -name '*.in.in' \) -a
-iname '*desktop*'

[Bug 339596] [NEW] System Log Viewer Enhancement - view old logs

2009-03-08 Thread Illuvator
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-utils

As an idea for an enhancement, could the system long viewer be improved
to open up the old .gz rotated logs, and then add them into the calendar
- having the logs back only to the last rotate is fine, but it might
offer extra function to users of the graphical client, rather than
zcatting out all the old logs.

[Bug 339604] [NEW] evolution blocking when trying to use calendar

2009-03-08 Thread Sympathicus
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I am using ubuntu 8.04 (April 2008) and I am a beginner.

Initially (after installation) calendar worked and I also could use it
as long as I did not try to import calendar data from windows outlook. I
forwarded outlook's calendar data (vcard or .msg attachments). In
evolution's email system I tried to drag and drop the attachment onto
the calendar key bottom left.

When I click onto the calendar key (bottom left) evolution is completely
blocking. Forcing evolution to close and restarting evolution does help.
Restarting ubuntu or even the laptop doesn't help either: evolution is
always blocking when I try to use the calendar.

How can I clean-up or reactivate the calendar?

[Bug 336150] Re: Unable to input Unicode with Ctrl-Shift-U after upgrading to jaunty

2009-03-08 Thread Johan Kiviniemi
PEBKAC.

I used a /etc/X11/Xmodmap which included:

! Caps Lock
keycode 66 = Control_L

clear lock

clear control
add control = Control_L Control_R

This did work in intrepid, but no longer in jaunty. Changing the keycode
line to

keycode 66 = Control_L Control_L Control_L Control_L Control_L

fixed the problem. It probably should have been like that in the first
place.

[Bug 272854] Re: [Intrepid][Regression]Gedit blocks logout even if document is saved

2009-03-08 Thread jan
Worked fine in Hardy. Please explain why the incompatible combination
EggSMClient with gnome-session 2.24 was included in Intrepid in the first
place, and how regression / beta tests did not catch this.
Who can move the status of http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=553168

[Bug 140460] Re: Evolution : On startup unable to connect to POP server

2009-03-08 Thread Liviu Beraru
Intrepid, latest updates.
I had the same problem with a Google account: Evolution asking me for user name
and password at every start up.
I found that I had to unlock captcha for my account here:
https://www.google.com/accounts/DisplayUnlockCaptcha
So in my case there was no problem with Evolution, just with google servers.
I hope this helps somebody.

[Bug 316862] Re: Nautilus fails to browse windows shares

2009-03-08 Thread Mark Ellse
Workaround and associated faulty behaviour:
1. You can log onto a Windows share by typing smb://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (the IP
address of the machine which has the Windows share) in the text based location
bar.
2. While connected to the share as in 1, create a bookmark for the share
Ctrl+D. This creates two bookmarks: one in the Nautilus window, and the other
one in the drop-down menu for Places.
3. The bookmark in the Nautilus window works. Teach your users to use it!
4. The bookmark in Places drop-down menu returns the message: "Could not open
location 'smb://172.19.53.101/' No application is registered as handling this
file. I guess this is an associated bug.
5. Smb4K, with occasional crashes, seems to work most of the time for browsing
the network.

[Bug 339667] [NEW] when multiple photos are selected no photo info are shown on the left window

Public bug reported:

When you select a photo you can see, on the left windows (this windows is
enabled by default), all its info, that is: name, version, data, dimension and
exposure. But if you select multiple photos no info is shown.
I think it could be very useful to show photo info also if you select more
photos, that is always to show the photo info of the last selected photo.
