[Bug 339491] [NEW] [jaunty] strange desktop flickering makes desktop unusable, killing GSD is workaround
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon Hi, I ran an upgrade last night which upgraded a large number of packages, presumably including the core gnome stuff. When I logged in this morning gnome was very slow to start up. When everything was finally present the screen elements kept flickering horizontally (it's hard to describe to be honest) in a very distracting way. I was going to kill GSD (from experience I suspected it was reprobing constantly), but then it stopped after a minute or so. I thought all was okay. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include enough information. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). Thanks for the feedback. You can select the default multimedia player: System -> Preferences -> Preferred Applications It's also possible to startup an mediaplayer if you insert an audio CD. Gnome asks you what to do when you insert a audio CD. Maybe you've told gnome to remember you decision about 'do nothing'? We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. [Bug 339604] [NEW] evolution blocking when trying to use calendar
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution I am using ubuntu 8.04 (April 2008) and I am a beginner. [Bug 316862] Re: Nautilus fails to browse windows shares
Workaround and associated faulty behaviour: 1. You can log onto a Windows share by typing smb://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (the IP address of the machine which has the Windows share) in the text based location bar. 2. While connected to the share as in 1, create a bookmark for the share Ctrl+D. This creates two bookmarks: one in the Nautilus window, and the other one in the drop-down menu for Places. 3. The bookmark in the Nautilus window works. Teach your users to use it! 4. The bookmark in Places drop-down menu returns the message: "Could not open location 'smb://172.19.53.101/' No application is registered as handling this file. I guess this is an associated bug. 5. Smb4K, with occasional crashes, seems to work most of the time for browsing the network. -- Nautilus fails to browse windows shares https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/316862 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
