[Bug 267371] Re: [gvfs] [smb] Damaged OpenOffice files from samba shares

2009-03-12 Thread Chris Cheney
I believe that this bug is essentially fixed in openoffice.org
1:3.0.1-5ubuntu1 in Jaunty as I have now turned off both gnome-vfs and
gio in OOo. OOo is now patched to use gvfs fuse which should work. There
are a few remaining bugs in gvfs fuse that cause saving not to work for
ftp/webdav but those bugs are already filed in the gnome upstream bug
tracker at:

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=574968
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=575150

Please let me know if this resolves your problem.

Thanks,

Chris Cheney

[Bug 342101] Re: no sound in new installation of ubuntu

2009-03-12 Thread Marlon Cisternas Milla
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How
to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 330383] Re: MTP is preferred over UMS/MSC

2009-03-12 Thread Stuart Read
I have the same problem with a Sony Walkman NWZ-S618. Since the MTP has
decreased functionality over the UMS(no access to pictures, video, drag-
and-drop music/podcasts without needing library manager), mass storage
should be preferred. Or perhaps some way to choose the first time the
device is inserted?

[Bug 183846] Re: google calendar source does not show all events

2009-03-12 Thread phillthy
Just found a bug which could be related.
Evolution successfully downloads all private calendar events which do not
repeat. The calendar events which repeat (in my case, uni subjects that repeat
weekly) do not download at all. However, during mid-semester break I have
removed the subjects from my google calendar for that week, and those events DO
download successfully.

So for repeated events evolution downloads only the repeated timeslots
that have been deleted from google calendar, and not the actual repeated
times that appear.

Hope that makes sense.
Evo 2.24.3
Intrepid

Cheers
Phill

[Bug 335712] Re: strange escape handling in Exec line of .desktop files

2009-03-12 Thread Chris Coulson
I've recreated this now. Steve, did you manually edit the Exec line of
the desktop file? The only reason I ask is that I just created a fresh
desktop file using gnome-desktop-item-edit, and entered the Exec line
that you quoted, but gnome-desktop-item-edit doubled the number of
backslashes in the unquoted string, so the desktop file actually worked
correctly

[Bug 342012] Re: Evolution crashes with calendar (libical: Assertion `0' failed)

I found another report of the same issue on Mandriva
http://www.nabble.com/-Bug-47641--evolution,-NEW:-Crash-from-icalerror.c-since-latest-evolution-td21898719.html

A reply to the report says that the issue has been mentioned on
bugzilla, but bugzilla hasn't worked for me for the last while so I
can't confirm.

[Bug 338291] Re: cannot set lpd printer with system-config-printer

2009-03-12 Thread Till Kamppeter
Tim, I have looked more deeply into it. It can be also a GTK bug or a
bug in the Python bindings for GTK.

The widget for entering LPD host and queue is a GtkComboBoxEntry.
According to the documentation

http://library.gnome.org/devel/gtk/unstable/GtkComboBoxEntry.html

every character typed and also any change by the drop-down list emits a
"changed" signal and this should lead to a call of the call-back
function on_entNPTDevice_changed(). In the actual system-config-printer
(in Jaunty) this happens only when choosing an item from the drop-down
list.

This probably also affects any other UI part using a GtkComboBoxEntry
widget, like setting up SMB or Socket printers.

The bug is most probably not in system-config-printer.

Status in “gnome-session” source package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

Bug description:
After a night-to-day unlock screen (my workstation stays awake but screen
locked with screensaver activated), my CPU is almost burned by the
'gnome-session' process. But this this not the only problem.. I can't launch
any application, not even KDE-based apps. The one's that stood open like
terminal, Firefox, etc, continues to work; but the new ones that I launch from
gnome panel don't even show the window borders.

This continue happening since 1 month ago. My system is alway up-to-
date.

Sometimes, when I close Firefox process and relaunch it, that behaviour
disappears, but 5 min after using my workstation it comes back and my
Desktop stays unusable. I can't logout; need to force a X reboot by CTRL
+ALT-BACKSPACE, then everything goes normal.

When I lock my workstation for 2 hours (lunch time! :) ), nothing
happens after unlocking and can work normally until the end of day.

Please help me diagnosing this problem (I'm really lost and don't know
where to start digging). It's a really a nasty behaviour. My machine is
a Dell Optiplex 740 with 3GB RAM.

I use Ubuntu Intrepid 32-bit.

[Bug 341850] Re: Missing Shortcuts for switching to workspace n, n>2

2009-03-12 Thread Andreas Simon
I should mention that the configs are there and accessible through gconf-editor:
The key names are /apps/metacity/global_keybindings/switch_to_workspace_n for 0
< n < 13.

gnome-keybinding-properties seems just to be hardcoded to show only
bindings for 2 workspaces, which is the default on Ubuntu.

If it's too much work to read the number of current workspaces and show
all respective options, I think it would be better to show the
keybindings for all 12 possible workspaces then only 2.

[Bug 341730] Re: gnome-session process goes berzek in cpu after a night-to-day unlock screen

2009-03-12 Thread Chris Coulson
Thanks.

Could you please use the version of gnome-session from my PPA for
debugging this, as it enables debugging messages by default again. Once
you have recreated the problem with this version, please attach your
~/.xsession-errors and your /var/log/syslog.

My PPA can be found here:
https://edge.launchpad.net/~chrisccoulson/+archive/ppa

Thanks

[Bug 341831] Re: winzip won't load, NTI won't load because no winzip

2009-03-12 Thread Scuffy
It is not a bug.

It is because your program is more protective than others.

This is the first time I have ever had a problem loading Winzip 8.1 on
any O.S..

It is this kind of stuff that keep most people away from Ubuntu.

I support a lot of computers and it's this kind of thing that keeps me
from recommending it to other users.

Sorry, but that's the way it is.
If I have to not load programs to run Unbuntu, then I can't recomment it
because I can't support it.

Sign me disappointed at best;

Thomas (Scuffy) S Porter
