[Bug 355480] [NEW] [LENOVO 0768BXG] Brightness does not increase properly
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager Jaunty Beta. The laptop system is receiving input from the Brightness controls on this laptop (Fn + F10 and Fn + F11), but the power manager moves the brightness slider up and down fairly randomly and the screen merely flickers. This is with AC power connected and disconnected. If I kill the power manager then the brightness controls work correctly (although I don't get a sexy translucent graphic on screen :) Description:Ubuntu jaunty (development branch) Release:9.04 Description:Ubuntu jaunty (development branch) Release:9.04 ** Affects: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [LENOVO 0768BXG] Brightness does not increase properly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/355480 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 355565] [NEW] Very poor performance when extracting audio CDs
Public bug reported: 1) Release: Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04 Beta 2) apt-cache policy rhythmbox: 0.12.0-0ubuntu2 3) When extracting audio CDs in other operating systems on the same computer, the conversion process takes under 5 minutes, and allows me full use of my computer as the process takes place. 4) When extracting an audio CD in rhythmbox, the process took well over 5 minutes, and took a large amount of CPU, leaving my computer very unusable. I reported it to the XBMC dev team but they are of the opinion that it is out of their reach. It may not be the most important bug, but it's one of the very few I have come across so far. [Bug 355627] [NEW] Display brightness dim/restore not consistent on UNR
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager Starting from AC, unplug the power cable. The display is dimmed to 50% of the initial level as expected. Change the display brightness. Restore the AC power. The display brightness level is not restored. Switching now again to battery mode will further decrease the luminosity to 25% of the starting value (50% of current level). Having always a 50% decrease of the brightness from then current value when switching to battery is sometimes leading to brightness levels too low. For example if I have the AC power plugged in but I use a 50% brightness because the environment light is low, turning off AC will lead to a brightness of 25% which is too low to be able too see anything on the screen (and to easily find the keys to turn up the brightness). Perhaps would be better when switching to save the current level and restore to it rather than to a percentage from the current one. For the first switch the user can provide the percentages from the maximum brightness to be used via Power Management Preferences panel. For the AC mode the user can already set the default display brightness but for the battery mode the user can only choose to dim it (looks to be 50% from current level). Well, if I've not misread the specification, the problem is that the icon must be shown even if the plugged device is not mass storage. So this is also valid for webcams and others. [Bug 355636] [NEW] Mahjongg: Wrong behaviour of buttons "Pause" and "Resume"
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-games See Screencast: When I start Mahjongg, both buttons "Pause" and "Resume" (in my german version, they are called "Pause" and "Fortsetzen") are displayed, resume is not greyed out. When I start a new game, the appearance is like I think it's supposed to be: Only the Pause button is visible, but greyed out. Furthermore, the size for the first 3 Buttons (ie "New", "Restart" and "Pause" or "Resume") in the button bar seems to change when I pause / resume a game, which is needless and a little ugly in my eyes. ** Affects: gnome-games (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Mahjongg: Wrong behaviour of buttons "Pause" and "Resume" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/355636 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-games in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 341141] Re: Baobab reports incorrect sizes
OK I did a bit more tests. I didn't look at the actual code yet, but I grabbed three gnome-utils tarballs from gnome.org and built them. So I built them on my already mentioned Interpid box within home folder (so I don't break preexisting gnome-utils). Then run both compiled and repository versions side by side to see what they do. Results: 2.20.0.1 does everything right!!! 2.24.1 behaves exactly as baobab from repository package. 2.26.0 (currently upstream) does exactly the same thing as 2.24.1 What I could learn that bug is indeed within gnome-utils package, cause I built all of them against the same developer libraries. I also added three screenshots to see how it looks on screen. Well for those affected by this bug... my current recommendation would be to revert to 2.20.0.1 (simply install Hardy's package or compile from source). ** Attachment added: "screenies.tar.gz" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/24835416/screenies.tar.gz -- Baobab reports incorrect sizes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/341141 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-utils in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 341389] Re: gnome-open keeps re-running itself if set as default opening application
Confirmed. I've just been hit by this myself (on Intrepid). It took about half an hour to work out that it was gnome-open, because neither top, nor htop, nor gnome-system-monitor were any use at all. All three showed 100% total CPU usage, but none showed what was using it: adding up the CPU totals for all processes usually came to about 10%. gnome-open, on recausing the problem and checking now, was right at the bottom, shown using up no CPU whatsoever. I only finally worked out that it was gnome-open using atop: using the 'c' (show command line) option showed a large number of "" lines. The brackets indicate that the process "finished during the last interval" apparently: it was restarting itself over and over, but only one copy was ever running at one time; hence why top and htop only showed one. So how did this happen? At some point, I think I set Opera to display shell scripts with "gnome-open", in the belief that this would just cause it to open them with Gnome's default handler (which at the time was gedit). Apparently that must have caused gnome-open to be set as the default file handler for scripts. ** Changed in: libgnome (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed -- gnome-open keeps re-running itself if set as default opening application https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/341389 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to libgnome in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Thanks for reporting this bug and any supporting documentation.
