[Bug 152279] Re: [Gutsy] Totem gets aspect ratio wrong
This problem isn't gone, and it's not a support issue. It is a bug. I have pinpointed the problem, and figured out how to "fix" it, at least temporarily. I'm running UNR Jaunty, with all current updates (Totem 2.26.1). gst-launch displayed the video properly before the fix, VLC displayed it properly before the fix, Totem did not before the fix. I do not have Xine or totem-xine installed. This is with totem-gstreamer, like it's supposed to be out of the box. The problem exists when a computer HAS BEEN connected to a second monitor. I sometimes dual-head my netbook with my TV (which has a D-SUB input) to watch streaming video on my TV. Even after disconnecting the TV, the second screen is still configured with a different aspect ratio and is therefore interfering with Totem's ability to get the aspect ratio correct. In Jaunty, head to System -> Preferences -> Display (In previous version, I believe Display is labeled Screen Resolution or Screens, though I don't know if this bug was patched in earlier distributions and has regressed in Jaunty, possibly due to the new X server?) and set the Mirror Screens option to correct this behavior. This is obviously not great for LEAVING your system dual-headed, but if you HAVE HAD it connected to a second screen this problem will persist afterwards, and changing this option will fix it. This is, in my opinion, a bug. Totem should be able to adjust the aspect ratio based on that of the screen that it's displaying on. [Bug 95853] Re: Delete file in Nautlus - no warning
After losing my entire movie collection due to an accidental deletion (how was I supposed to know half my hard drive was in the trash can when I emptied it?), the lack of a confirmation option may well be enough to get me to move back to Windows. It is absolutely absurd to me that an operating system as powerful and flexible as Ubuntu won't even give me the *option* to request a dialogue box before deleting items with one keystroke. I'm a huge fan of Linux, but this is probably a deal-breaker for me -- especially since this is a feature that's been requested for years from many users and still has not been implemented. If I can't find a workaround for this, I'll be forced back to Windows, because I simply do not have the time to continually restore all of my files from backup due to one accidental keystroke. -- Delete file in Nautlus - no warning https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/95853 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 377166] [NEW] Display wakes up bright on power loss, and doesn't go off
You have been subscribed to a public bug: This problem is observed on my laptop, Dell Inspiron 6400 running Ubuntu (Jaunty at present, but was there for previous releases too). Steps to reproduce this: Lock the laptop by pressing Ctrl+Alt+L. Display goes to sleep after some time, leaving it blank and black. Now witch the power off, or plug the power cord out. LCD display suddenly wakes up showing the password entry dialog, as if I pressed a key or clicked the mouse. Display, then wouldn't shutdown (i.e. goes off), until I press ESC and thus quitting the password entry dialog. The problem, here, is that display stays bright even after power loss, there by draining the battery quite fast. ** Affects: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: display jaunty -- Display wakes up bright on power loss, and doesn't go off https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/377166 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I have long disliked Brasero - and in Jaunty I like it even less. Have you tried K3b? [Bug 376853] [NEW] gdm fails to load nvidia closed-source driver
You have been subscribed to a public bug: On Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04 AMD64 using included Nvidia closed-source driver 180.44 as provided by 'hardware drivers' on a Compal JHL90 laptop (sold by ibuypower) with a p9500 processor and nvidia 9600m graphics card: after a hard crash, and occasionally even after clean shutdowns when rebooting once gdm attempts to load, it attempts to use the nvidia driver showing the splash screen and then reverting to console three times in an obvious failed attempt to use the driver, followed by the errors: (EE) Failed to load module "type1" (module does not exist, 0) (EE) Failed to load module "freetype" (module does not exist, 0) and it gives me the options to repair, troubleshoot, return to console. I can temporarily work around this issue by exiting to console, shutting down gdm, running startx (at this point, the xserver loads as normal, shows driver splash screen and loads the desktop), removing the xorg config ( at /etc/X11/xorg.conf), running nvidia-settings as root and using it to re-write the xorg config and then shutting down from the xserver session through the gui menu provided in gnome. Once this process is done I can restart gdm from the console and it will then load the driver properly and I can continue without issue as usual (until the next restart where it may load as normal, or may have to repeat the process to get back to a fully working desktop). At the time of writing I am attaching Xorg.log showing the error occuring, If requested I can also attach my xorg.conf however it is simply a 'stock' one generated by nvidia-settings as said in the procedure above. ** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- gdm fails to load nvidia closed-source driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/376853 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 192457] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV
I should add that after some updates about a week or so ago, the primary user on this computer (me) stopped getting crash reports. However, the other users (including an administrator) still get them every time. I think this latest crash report is a dupe or near-dupe of the above, but I'm not sure, so I'm attaching. Sorry if I'm wasting bandwidth and server space. This report is from the non-primary administrator's user account. Thanks. ** Attachment added: "nautilus crash report - 2nd administrator" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/27060233/_usr_bin_nautilus.1001.crash -- nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/192457 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. [Bug 362318] Re: Editing calendar events to recur forever corrupts the calendar the event is tied to
I'm running a currently updated Jaunty 9.04, Evolution 2.26.1 I'm still having this issue: To reproduce these are my exact steps: -Go to Calendar -Switch to Month View -Double Click Friday May 22 and create the following event: **Summary: Tim Card **Location: https://website.com **Unselect as Busy **Select Recurring Event [2 weeks:Fri:forever] (Event is Created correctly) -Double Click event to edit information -Edit Summary to "Time Card" -Save -Select All Instances (note: Only selected event was changed-- the event for June 05, remains "Tim Card" -- I believe it is refreshed if you switch to mail and back to Calendar) -Double Click May 22 event again and change summary to "Timee Card" (Update is not displayed on calendar) -Double Click May 22 event once more to change summary, as it didn't seem to reflect the change (also note in appointment popup, it appears Timee card was not saved at all). Change Time Card to Timee Card once more, all instances **crash** I came across this today while I was trying to get my Calendar set up for work purposes (obviously). I don't remember the exact edits I did the first time, but the above process crashed Evolution every time. Also, after killing Evolution with xkill Evolution will not open again until the actual process is stopped from System Monitor. I'm not sure if I should file a new bug report, or add to this one, and also if I should be including more information. I'm very new to officially reporting bugs. [Bug 379403] Re: Drag and drop of images is dangerous in evince and too easy to perform
Thanks for pointing this out. Indeed, this would work well also in evince; OTOH, it is expected that dragging a file over evince loads it, so making each windows not be a target for its own drags would likely fix the bug. Even if, I still dislike the behaviour also present in firefox to treat text and images differently on drag; I would consider clearer for the end user to select images when dragging, too but maybe I don't see obvious drawbacks. -- Drag and drop of images is dangerous in evince and too easy to perform https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/379403 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evince in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
