[Bug 381187] [NEW] gnome-power-manager does not detect notify-osd

2009-05-28 Thread Chow Loong Jin
Public bug reported:

gnome-power-manager (as of 2.26.1-0ubuntu3) does not detect notify-osd
for changing the brightness levels. The reason for this is that the
libnotify code in the Ubuntu patch is surrounded by a #ifdef
HAVE_LIBNOTIFY, which is no longer defined in the new version of
gnome-power-manager.

[Bug 164120] Re: nautilus hangs when mounted nfs drive is no longer accessible

2009-05-28 Thread dmizer
I have just retested. I am positive that adding "soft" to the /etc/fstab
mount options fixes this problem. Nautilus DOES hang, but only for a
minute until NFS times out. Then you get an I/O error and Nautilus
starts working as expected again. In the mean time, everything else
works perfectly fine, the desktop is not lost, and the rest of the
system remains responsive. I have tried this solution with Nautilus,
Thunar, and ROX.

When notifications come up I would expect it not to cause problems in a
games rendering. When the notification comes up it causes the screen to
momentarily pause. I then continue to play however the same problem then
occurs when the notification dissapears as well (ie the screen
momentarily freezes). This problem is quite annoying, especially when
i'm listening to music in rhythmbox + the song changes and i'm playing
urban terror at the same time. :S

[Bug 381242] [NEW] gnome-power-manager does not detect battery discharging

2009-05-28 Thread Chow Loong Jin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

In Karmic, gnome-power-manager does not detect the current charge of the
battery while it is discharging. To summarize:
1. Disconnect power cord:
2. Note that gpm's tray icon detects that the power cord's disconnected, and
says 99% battery
3. Wait a while
4. Note that the battery charge monitor applet shows the charge dropping, while
the tooltip of gnome-power-manager shows the battery still full.
5. Plug the cord back in.
6. Note that gpm's tray icon detects that the power cord is plugged back in,
and suddenly knows the correct charge.

To be make things even clearer, I shall attach a screenshot of the power
graph, with data points enabled. Basically, the charge level of the
battery is only detected when the power cord is disconnected, when it's
connected, and when it's charging, but not when it's discharging. This
is dangerous as the user will not be warned when the power hits
critical level (because gpm thinks it's still 99%), and the system will
not auto-hibernate despite being configured to do so, resulting in
"sudden death" of the computer with the battery completely exhausted.

I'd like to add that -0ubuntu4 does not exist at the moment, but is
actually -0ubuntu3 with the applied debdiff from Bug #381187. The only
thing different is the notify-osd patch. I can confirm that this
behaviour happens even with -0ubuntu3.

[Bug 381252] [NEW] Font thumbnailer never thumbnails any fonts in Jaunty

2009-05-28 Thread James Henstridge
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

gnome-control-center provides a font thumbnailer for Nautilus (gnome-
thumbnail-font), but it never manages to produce any thumbnails.

The fix for bug 339417 introduced some resource limits to the
thumbnailer, but these appear to be set too low. The commit says it
limits runtime to 30 seconds, but the code is actually limiting it to 30
microseconds.

This is still a problem in Jaunty 9.04, it's a big problem with vector

pdf files. It's just a matter of rendering vs rasterising ordering.

[Bug 380643] Re: burning files containing % creates error

2009-05-28 Thread Teej
I am not too sure about this, it seems that it is trying to make 2 copies of
the same file in the makeisofs command before it burns, which is where the
problem is. I shall edit out the email address in the log and remark this as
Public so other people can have a look and see if they have the same/similar
problem.
Can you reproduce this every time? How about using a CD instead, or moving
those files around, etc?

[Bug 381275] [NEW] Rhythmbox connection to Xbox360 drops

2009-05-28 Thread JK
Public bug reported:

Rhythmbox in Ubuntu 9.04

Added DLNA/UPnP plugin (and installed python-coherence via synaptic
package manager)

Xbox 360 displays Rhythmbox on correct IP address in the Xbox 360 Music
Libary.

However, the connection times out when selecting Rhythmbox as the source
from the Xbox 360 Music Library and the following message is displayed:
"The connection to your computer was lost. Make sure your computer is
turned on, connected to your network, and running media sharing
software."

Subsequent connection testing from the Xbox 360 console shows that the
Xbox 360 is connected to the network and also connected to the PC that
has Rhythmbox running on it.

[Bug 381284] [NEW] most contacts are not displayed

2009-05-28 Thread Stefanie Haupt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Hello,
I imported my contacts from gmail using vcard. Everything worked fine. Then I
began working on the contacts as some hadn't a name assigned. During this
process I deleted some contacts and got interrupted a few times, one invoking a
shutdown of the laptop to suspend. Now evolution shows me the total number of
contacts but displays one the first 4-5. If I search for one I can recall which
isn't displayed it is found, so it's not lost. But it doesn't show up anyway
when trying to see all contacts.

Hope the description is helful!

[Bug 206439] Re: smb password protected share cannot be accessed

2009-05-28 Thread Conor
Please try the following which I found worked for 9.04.

Install winbind.

sudo apt-get install winbind

Edit /etc/nsswitch.conf

sudo gedit /etc/nsswitch.conf

Look for the line...

hosts: files (etc)

If yours is like mine was when it didn't work, it'll read something
like:

hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns mdns4

..although what is there will vary but files and dns will be there.
What is missing is an entry for wins.

You need to add wins after files so it looks like (alter as required):

hosts: files wins mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns mdns4

Save the file and reboot.

Please post your findings.

somehow it finally stops hang on quit after i change all the setting in

i also change the pidgin sound preferences from pulseaudio to alsa since
it sometimes crashes while using yahoo messenger.

for now the system is quite responding to restart and shutdown though
after using openoffice 2.4.1, gambas 1.0.18, pidgin, and firefox 3.10 in
a long 8 hours straight. hope this normal situation will continue for
last.

[Bug 381290] [NEW] Evolution forces SHA1 cipher for PGP signatures

2009-05-28 Thread Daniel Silverstone
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When sending a PGP signed message in Evolution, the signature algorithm
is locked down to SHA1.

With the recent concern about SHA1 signatures, many people, including
myself, are migrating to new GPG keys and SHA256 or SHA512 signatures by
default. However those of us who use Evolution are unable to migrate
properly yet because Evolution fails us in this respect.

[Bug 381290] Re: Evolution forces SHA1 cipher for PGP signatures

2009-05-28 Thread Daniel Silverstone
This attached patch stops the Evolution composer from *forcing* SHA1,
instead allowing camel to choose the default cipher, whatever that might
be.

This does not fully solve the problem but is the first step along the
way.

[Bug 381295] [NEW] Evolution data server (libcamel) cannot

2009-05-28 Thread Daniel Silverstone
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution-data-server

Binary package hint: libcamel-provider-1.2

When sending a PGP signed message in Evolution, the signature algorithm
is locked down to SHA1.

With the recent concern about SHA1 signatures, many people, including
myself, are migrating to new GPG keys and SHA256 or SHA512 signatures by
default. However those of us who use Evolution are unable to migrate
properly yet because Evolution fails us in this respect.

Bug #381290 contains a patch to stop Evolution's composer locking it
down to SHA1, but camel is unable to use the SHA2 family of hashes.

The attached patch adds support for the SHA2 family of hashes and makes
SHA256 the default hash.

[Bug 381299] [NEW] gnome-keybinding-properties actions are not translated

2009-05-28 Thread Juanje Ojeda
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Ubuntu version: Jaunty
Package version: 2.26.0-0ubuntu3

The capplet gnome-keybinding-properties from the package 'Gnome Control
Center' show the actions in English no matter which langauage you have
in your enviroment.

This bug was detectec in Guadalinex which is Ubuntu Jaunty with the last
jaunty-updates installed. So the bug is still in the Jaunty package
version 2.26.0-0ubuntu3. But seems this bug is also in upstream (GNOME).

To reproduce the problem you can go to the GNOME menu System ->
Preference -> Keyboard Shortcuts (in non-English language).

I attach a screenshot with the problem.

2009-05-28 Thread Mark Edgington
This is still a problem in Jaunty (using AMD64). I have attached a file which
demonstrates the problem.
When the link in the file is clicked with evince (assuming the target --

and the new evince window which is launched contains an error message: "Error

If the same PDF file is opened in Adobe's acrobat reader, it opens the

Actually, this helps a lot.

What this tells us is that this is actually a bug in glib2.0 function

The bug occurs when this is launched with a context including a screen

[Bug 380643] Re: burning files containing % creates error

2009-05-28 Thread Fifoxtasy
it was not the % in the filename but the folder name that caused the problem. i
burned some other files with % in them without a problem. but then what is the
problem???
i attached two of those files (i got 4 in total if you care for more) i have
problems with. they are in an 7z archive. just extract the folder in there and
then drag the folder into brasero or add it via the add.. button. if you only
add the files, without the folder, there is no error. you have to add the whole
folder. you have to add them to a Data Project. it doesn't matter if you burn
them or create an image.
if you change the filename (on disk) or the name in brasero the file can be
burnt normally (= the error disappears)
i hope this is reproduceable on other machines.
about those files: they were created by Miranda a windows instant messenger on
a NTFS partition under windows XP. i copied them over to a ext3 partition when
i switched to linux. permissions are set to be rw for everybody; me being the
owner.
please let me know what's wrong about those files, i'm getting really curious.

by the way another bug: when i delete (move to trash) a folder that i just
dragged into brasero, brasero closes/crashes.

[Bug 381392] [NEW] Brasero fails on small dvd images

2009-05-28 Thread noamik
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

Burning a DVD with an ISO-Image which is too small (less than 800 MB,
mine is around 550 MB) fails.

Happened to me on hardy i386, but applies to other versions as well.

Problem: when an ISO image is too small, more data has to be added
before DVD fixation. Brasero seems to be ignoring that the drive will
write a huge lead out!

Possible fix: burn with cdrecord (cdrecord happily writes this ISO to a
DVD-R and waits as needed until the drive is ready).

2009-05-28 Thread Zachary Sandberg
This bug is duplicatable for me. Every time I open system monitor and
select another tab it will refuse to close. If I open system monitor
and immediately close it without selecting another tab it works fine
however. I am running 9.04 x64 if it makes any difference.

[Bug 373167] Re: After installing Thunderbird, preferred applications shows both "Mozilla Thunderbird" and "Thunderbird"

2009-05-28 Thread Id2ndR
I managed to workaround the trouble :
$ sudo rm /usr/bin/thunderbird

The facts are that :
- gnome-default-applications-properties looks for mozilla-thunderbird and
thunderbird executables and show corresponding entries in the menu ("Mozilla
Thunderbird" and "Thunderbird"),
- thunderbird package install both /usr/bin/mozilla-thunderbird and
/usr/bin/thunderbird links (the target is ../lib/thunderbird/thunderbird for
both).

Usefull commands to understand the facts :
$ strace gnome-default-applications-properties 2>&1 | grep thunderbird
$ dpkg --listfiles thunderbird

[Bug 380643] Re: burning files containing % creates error

2009-05-28 Thread Fifoxtasy
i burned some other files with % in them without a problem. but there are some
files (also containing %) that just won't be burnt by brasero.
i attached two of those files (i got 4 in total if you care for more) i have
problems with. they are in an 7z archive. just extract the folder in there and
then drag the folder into brasero or add it via the add.. button. if you only
add the files, without the folder, there is no error. you have to add the whole
folder. you have to add them to a Data Project. it doesn't matter if you burn
them or create an image.
if you change the filename (on disk) or the name in brasero the file can be
burnt normally (= the error disappears)
i hope this is reproduceable on other machines.
about those files: they were created by Miranda a windows instant messenger on
a NTFS partition under windows XP. i copied them over to a ext3 partition when
i switched to linux. permissions are set to be rw for everybody; me being the
owner.
please let me know what's wrong about those files, i'm getting really curious.

by the way another bug: when i delete (move to trash) a folder that i
just dragged into brasero, brasero closes/crashes.

not send it just sits in the outbox without any further action. This is
very frustrating. what can I do? I know very little about computer set

no game completion time, etc. I had run into this before but that time I
