Re: [Bug 386536] Re: voice recording impossible
Hi, thanks for your help but it hasn't changed much. I have attached various screen captures so that you can see what settings I have. The microphone works but recording through the microphone is impossible. By the way I am certainly not a computer geek so that means that explanations have to be as simple as possible. Anyway thanks very much for your help 2009/6/13 Bryce Salmi bts2...@rit.edu Thank you for reporting here. Are you using ALSA ? if you go to the terminal and type in alsamixer you should get to a screen showing more audio settings, make sure your mic and/or line in is not muted. If you use the arrow keys to navigate through the selections you can increase or decrease the levels with the up and down keys. [Bug 386199] Re: Long delay before new/compose window appears
Cloning my comment from the GNOME bug, since I've identified pretty much exactly what factor controls whether or not this issue happens: If you enable your local X server to listen on TCP/IP (on most GNOME desktops, edit /etc/gdm/gdm.conf (may be /etc/X11/gdm/gdm.conf depending on distro/version) and change DisallowTCP=true to DisallowTCP=false then restart GDM, you can reproduce this running directly on your normal X server. If you run with DISPLAY=:0.0 (assuming you're on DISPLAY 0) the compose window appears in about a second. If you run with DISPLAY=127.0.0.1:0.0 it takes 15 or more seconds to appear. Here's an interesting example. I have two terminals, with prompts T1$ and T2$ . In T1 I'll launch Evolution, talking on a UNIX domain socket. On T2 I'll then time how long it takes to open a compose window by using the command time evolution mailto:t...@nowhere.org;. The remote invocation only terminates when the mail window has displayed, so we can time how long it takes to display quite accurately. Once I've timed that, I'll exit evolution on T1, reopen it with a TCP/IP connection, and repeat the test on T2. Observe the difference: T1$ DISPLAY=:0.0 evolution ** (evolution:26183): DEBUG: EI: SHELL STARTUP ** (evolution:26183): DEBUG: EI: mail_read_notify ** (evolution:26183): DEBUG: MAIL SERVER: Count changed: 0 T2$ time evolution mailto:t...@nowhere.org real0m0.830s user0m0.160s sys 0m0.030s T1$ DISPLAY=127.0.0.1:0 evolution ** (evolution:26236): DEBUG: EI: SHELL STARTUP ** (evolution:26236): DEBUG: EI: mail_read_notify ** (evolution:26236): DEBUG: MAIL SERVER: Count changed: 0 T2$ time evolution mailto:t...@nowhere.org real0m16.742s user0m0.180s sys 0m0.030s 0.8 seconds vs 16.7 seconds. Oh come on! Include a graphic equalizer in Rhythmbox ... Gstreamer already has the plugin available just give it a GUI!! It's only on issues like this that I regret using GNOME. If GTK+/C weren't so convoluted I might consider having a go at developing one myself. But life is just too short for GTK+/C. [Bug 386199] Re: Long delay before new/compose window appears
It's a gtkhtml bug, or possibly a libgtk+ bug. A workaround is to patch libgtkhtml and rebuild it. Instructions: $ sudo apt-get install fakeroot build-essential wget $ sudo apt-get build-dep gtkhtml3.14 $ mkdir $HOME/gtkhtml $ cd $HOME/gtkhtml $ apt-get source gtkhtml3.14 $ wget http://launchpadlibrarian.net/27859768/bug585626.diff $ patch -p0 bug585626.diff $ ( cd gtkhtml3.14-* fakeroot debian/rules binary ) $ sudo dpkg -i *.deb Your changes WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY REPLACED next time gtkhtml is updated, so this is only a quick-and-dirty fix. (Yes, you can use pinning or the like to retain them, but if you need to know how to unpin later, remember to , etc, or things may go pear-shaped, so I won't explain that here). -- Long delay before new/compose window appears https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/386199 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 386698] [NEW] Brasero will not write single FLAC file with cuesheet to audio CD
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: brasero I'm using Brasero 2.26.1-0ubuntu1 on Ubuntu 9.04. I use RubyRipper to rip my cd's to a single FLAC file, and a cuesheet (.cue) for each file. The FLAC file then contains all the audio data for the cd, while the cuesheet provides the information regarding track starting and ending points, including any gaps. This makes complete restoration possible, including all gaps. I'd like to be able to use Brasero to burn this format to a black CD-R, as is possible with K3b, but can't seem to get it to work. The manual seems to indicate this should be possible, using Burn Image function, but when I attempt this, Brasero returns the error, '[.cue filename].cue' could not be found. If I manually decode the FLAC first, and then change the FILE reference within the cuesheet to reflect the filename of the new .wav file, Brasero will burn the cd happily. It seems then, that the problem lies in identifying the FLAC file, and then properly decoding it. Attached is the error log Brasero provided, and the following is the cuesheet used (WhileImWaiting.cue): REM GENRE Unknown REM DATE 2009 REM COMMENT Rubyripper 0.5.5 PERFORMER John Waller TITLE While I'm Waiting FILE WhileImWaiting.flac WAVE TRACK 01 AUDIO TITLE Hands Of The Healer PERFORMER John Waller INDEX 01 00:00:00 TRACK 02 AUDIO TITLE Faith Is Living PERFORMER John Waller INDEX 01 03:35:55 TRACK 03 AUDIO TITLE While I'm Waiting PERFORMER John Waller INDEX 01 07:46:53 TRACK 04 AUDIO TITLE Quest PERFORMER John Waller INDEX 01 12:37:04 TRACK 05 AUDIO TITLE Cling To The Call PERFORMER John Waller INDEX 01 16:37:20 TRACK 06 AUDIO TITLE Of All The Places PERFORMER John Waller INDEX 01 20:50:39 TRACK 07 AUDIO TITLE House Of God PERFORMER John Waller INDEX 01 25:19:69 TRACK 08 AUDIO TITLE Priestly Blessing PERFORMER John Waller INDEX 01 28:51:44 TRACK 09 AUDIO TITLE Dead Man Walking PERFORMER John Waller INDEX 01 32:15:25 TRACK 10 AUDIO TITLE Our God Reigns Here PERFORMER John Waller INDEX 01 36:01:35 TRACK 11 AUDIO TITLE Perfect Peace PERFORMER John Waller INDEX 01 40:51:46 TRACK 12 AUDIO TITLE While I'm Waiting (Fireproof-Remix) PERFORMER John Waller INDEX 01 44:06:70 ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/brasero Package: brasero 2.26.1-0ubuntu1 ProcEnviron: LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: brasero Uname: Linux 2.6.30-020630-generic i686 ** Affects: brasero (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug cuesheet flac -- Brasero will not write single FLAC file with cuesheet to audio CD https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/386698 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to brasero in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 386309] Re: Brasero gives Unknown Error
ok here's the relevant lines i think: Manufacturer:'MCC' Media type: '004' I can burn discs with brasero. It just gives me Unknown Error and I have to try another way to get it to burn, which is annoying. After login, brasero gives me this error when I try to burn a DVD, so I try going through CD/DVD Creator and that works. The next time I login to my PC and try going straight to CD/DVD Creator, _that_ gives me this same error, so I try brasero and it works. Trying the same app again after the first error won't work it just gives the same error again. [Bug 386022] [NEW] No audio, no message, disabled volume control
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: totem There are clearly deep problems in the Jaunty audio system, I'm reporting this as a symptom. At the moment, flash audio works fine, but totem is showing the visualization and producing no sound. Totem has no control to see what it thinks it is doing, what audio system it thinks it is using, or anything about why it might not be working. There is no error message about the situation, but it seems to know something is up because the volume control is disabled. [Bug 386022] Re: No audio, no message, disabled volume control
Sebastian, if you are going to claim that this doesn't seem to be a totem one, could you either explain why it is not a totem issue, ask the reporter for more information or assign another package. Just saying that the issue doesn't seem to be a totem one is in no way shape or form helpful to either the reporter of triagers of this bug. David, please could you try playing audio with another audio player such as rythmbox, to try and see if the problem is totem specific or not. Also, could you try running totem from the command line and seeing if any error messages appear. If they do, please could you add them to a comment on this report please. ** Package changed: ubuntu = totem (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: totem (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- No audio, no message, disabled volume control https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/386022 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to totem in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 386022] Re: No audio, no message, disabled volume control
At this time Totem is working on my system. I believe that what happens is that one of the many sound systems (pulse, esd, alsa, oss) gets stuffed up, and totem stops working because it happens to use that interface. It seems like Skype is what usually leads to the messed up sound system. Rhythmbox is generally not affected. However, at times the sound system gets further jammed so that the flash plugin in firefox siezes up. So this is probably more of a design limitation in Totem than a bug, but the error reporting in Totem could be improved. I used to be a developer for a Linux distribution, and if I still were I'd write a diagnostic application to show which sound systems were installed on the system and test how each of them was working. -- No audio, no message, disabled volume control https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/386022 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to totem in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

It doesn't detect it's running on battery at all: the icon is like when running only on AC (only the plug icon), and if under preferences running on ac tab I pull the brightness down, it will decrease the brightness. In the general tab, the icon will only display if Display always is checked, the other 3 options hide the power-manager icon. Also, as stated before, when pluging the ac, it will first display discharging (even though it acts as when on AC, icon displayed is a battery) and after half a minute it will show the correct charging state (battery with the plug) Also, when going from AC into battery, the brightness won't decrease, but will decrease and immediately increase again when connecting the AC from on battery. The only issues with the power-manager I have in Jaunty is that the battery reports incorrectly the Charged and Discharging states, and thus when running on AC the icon acts as it was Charged and when running on AC with fully charged battery it shows a battery, even though the computer knows where it is running from and decreases/increases brightness fine and applies changes in a power-management script I have under /etc/pm/sleep.d and power.d. ** Affects: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- gnome-power-manage not detecting when running on battery https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/386778 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
