[Bug 387170] [NEW] Receive error message Failed to execute child process "gnome-system-manager" Input/Output Error

2009-06-14 Thread Mrmagpie
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor

1) 8.04 Hardy
2) Gnome version 2.22.3
3) I expected to be able to open gnome-system-manager
4) Operating programs such as Firefox will 'grey out' or there will be a
significant decrease in system response time, and upon attempting to open
System Manager, I receive an error along the lines of: Failed to execute child
program "gnome-system-manager" Input/Output Error. Everything on my desktop
becomes read-only and many of the icons on my panels disappear. The only way to
return things to normal is to shut down the entire system. Once I re-boot the
computer, it may be many hours before I receive the same error message, or it
may occur repeatedly for the next few minutes.

[Bug 313228] Re: a program is still running but i want shut down anyway

2009-06-14 Thread wijit
I wrote this to correct and add more information to my 20090611 writing.
None of ubuntu updates were suspected as the "Untitled Windows" does not always
appear. Normally, I access the internet via a built-in LAN adapter. Just when I
want to print some things I plug an RJ45 in for a connection to the computer to
which the printer attaches. The "Untitled Windows" appears only on the day I
print some things.

[Bug 386950] Re: Frecell move to empty spot bug

2009-06-14 Thread BrianS
now here i am trying to move the jack of hearts to the queen of clubs.
This move is possible only because on have 2 open spots on the table. It
would move as many cards to the first empty one, using the second empty
one. if it needed to remove more, it would put them in the second empty
one after. Then afterwards it would place the jack and put them all back
on.

[Bug 247364] Re: Some emails are not displayed but are saved in the mailbox file

2009-06-14 Thread rodelasangelo
good morning.

We have the same problem in the company. Some of our Ubuntu - Evolution
users are experiencing bug, which is really bugging our department.
Complaints are coming in and out.

temporarily, I have done a TEDIOUS solution. I copied the Inbox (mbox
file) located at home/evolution/email/local and converted it to eml.
then exported it to MS OUTLOOK (XP Computer). All the emails show there,
from the oldest to the latest. Like i said, this is tedious, so i hope
this really big-bugging-bug be solved, immediately.

if you have an easier way, where i dont have to copy-convert-import
emails, please to email me!

[Bug 194213] Re: Dim files when you 'cut' them for later 'paste' action

2009-06-14 Thread borrell
I agree, this is a usability issue which is in need of a fix. There is
no indication that specific files have been cut from a folder. Upstream
do not see this as an important issue but for people switching from
Windows it is a major issue as the UI could appear unresponsive as it
does not give feedback when a cut operation is performed.

Even if files are not dimmed there needs to be some feedback about the
cut operation.

Is there a way something could be implemented through an Ubuntu-specific
plugin?

[Bug 382379] Re: pdftops CUPS filter has several problems

2009-06-14 Thread NoOp
Sorry... I think that is not the problem.

I brought up hardy on a test machine using the liveCD, installed
Inkscape: 'sudo apt-get install inkscape' (again this is a liveCD
session - nothing installed to the hard drive), copy over the
Example_testfile.svg file from this machine, opened it in Inkscape,
selected File|Print, selected the automatically installed cups-pdf
printer that is installed with the liveCD, made zero adjustments to the
settings, printed to PDF, and the result is a proper PDF. See the
attached.

I'll have to download an burn an intrepid liveCD as I only have an
intrepid alternate CD. I have an intrepid hard drive in the box
somewhere, but prefer to try from the liveCD so that any previous users
settings do not affect the test.

[Bug 387122] [NEW] document viewer bug in fullscreen mode

2009-06-14 Thread LeeU
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

I opened a file in pdf format, after that I pushed f11 key to view that file in
fullscreen mode. In this mode, when i move my mouse to the button " Start
presentation" on the top right (or any other button as "Leave fullscreen", text
input page on the top left...) without clicked, the view will "blink" or "wink"
continuously.
You can try it to see what's going on clearly.
I attached my pdf file below.
Sorry for my bad English, after seeing what happens. Please suggest me the word
to replace "blink", "wink" with a exacter word.
Thanks in advanced.

[Bug 387108] [NEW] audio profiles won't appear even though they're marked active

2009-06-14 Thread Wade Bowmer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

The problem is twofold: Rhythmbox will not display an audio profile in
the Preferences box if it can't find the binary for the profile, which
is fine. However, there is nothing tells you why it doesn't show
profiles it can't find the binary for.

In practice, this means trying to enable MP3 encoding (for example)
isn't possible and there is nothing to indicate why not.

At the very least, the profile editor should indicate that the codec
binary isn't available.

Release is 9.04, installed from CD and updated from the 'net as of
yesterday (June 14).

[Bug 326258] Re: gconf-editor - Ugly Key Type Icons

2009-06-14 Thread David Siegel
This looks like a great change, but seeing as you already have a patch,
your bug has been confirmed elsewhere, you do not need help from the
Canonical design team, and this bug does not affect most user's default
Ubuntu experience, this is not a paper cut.

Please understand, not being a paper cut does not mean this change will
not be made. To the contrary, one of the reasons for not including this
in the hundredpapercuts project is that it looks like the change can be
discussed and made (or not) independently of hundredpapercuts.

[Bug 386950] Re: Frecell move to empty spot bug

2009-06-14 Thread BrianS
Well when you try to move a pile. It will move them one at a time, but
it does it automatically for you. So say you want to move a pile of 5
cards(7,6,5,4,3) and you have 3 spots open at the top and one regular
row spot open. Lets say you want to put the 7 on an 8(that is open).
all you would do is drag the 7 to the 8. The card moving would be
automated for you. it would put the 3, 4,5 at the top. the 6 in the open
one. and put the 7 on the 8 and then move the 6,5,4, and 3 to where it
goes.

If you would have needed to move more, it would have brought the 3,4,5
down and put them on the 6 as temporary a temporary move and done
whatever was needed. Like I said. this part is automated. You just need
to make sure you have enough open spots.

Hope this explains it.

[Bug 272557] Re: Leaving an SD card in the slot when suspending creates a nautilus window on awake

2009-06-14 Thread nonzero
I reproduced this bug. I have Ubuntu 9.04 NBR running on a Dell Mini 9. I'm
using a 2GB microSD card in an adapter.
1) Put SD card inside slot.
2) Nautilus window appears for /media/disk. Close it.
3) Close lid to suspend the laptop.
4) Open lid to awaken laptop.
5) Black screen with "MMC killing request for dead queue".

I guess this is a kernel module problem and not exactly a Nautilus
problem. Can someone point me to the appropriate place to report this
bug?

[Bug 382379] Re: pdftops CUPS filter has several problems

2009-06-14 Thread Till Kamppeter
According to the source code of Poppler's PostScript output facility
pages get rasterized at 300 dpi if they use transparency. Does your
drawing use transparency?

As PostScript by itself does not support transparency, we need a PDF
printing workflow which is as complete as possible. Drivers should be
designed to accept PDF (most printer drivers do, as they use
Ghostscript). Conversion from PDF to PostScript should be avoided, it
should only be done to print on PostScript printers.

[Bug 382379] Re: pdftops CUPS filter has several problems

2009-06-14 Thread Till Kamppeter
The problem is Poppler's pdftops filter. It turns the PDF file which was
generated by inkscape and sent to CUPS to a graphics-only PostScript
file. Seems to be an upstream bug of Poppler. Usually Poppler conserves
the text when converting PDF to PostScript (at least it did so with PDFs
coming from other applications and PDFs which CUPS generated from
PostScript files with Ghostscript).

The best and easiest solution for your situation would be the fix of bug
385709 so that PDF files do not get converted to PostScript and back to
PDF when cups-pdf is used. For now you should always use the PDF
generation facility inside the applications and use the PDF printer only
for applications which do not have PDF export functionality by
themselves.

[Bug 387070] [NEW] gcalctool calculates wrong

2009-06-14 Thread Hoffmann
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gcalctool

I was trying to calculate a radio channel. The frequency of the first
channel is 74.215 MHz, the frequency of my channel is 75.695 MHz. The
distance between two channels is 0,02 Mhz and the first channel is #347.
(Just for the interested ones, this is german 4m-Band BOS).

Now I use Int(347 - (75.695 - 74.215)/0.02) = 420.
But if I do it without Int() it results in 75.695 - 74.215)/0.02 = 421.
I looked it up and the right channel would be 421. So where is the problem? If
I convert 421 to Int it results in 421, so the Int-function can't be the
problem as well...

Sorry. Misread comments upstream.
At least, installing http://code.google.com/p/gdk-pixbuf-psd/ would enable EoG

Otherwise, is there such a project to overhaul thumbnailing, this bug could be

[Bug 366344] Re: gnome-panel crashed with signal 7 in panel_shell_register()

2009-06-14 Thread DrC
A newly downloaded image (Linux ubuntu 2.6.28-11-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP
Fri Apr 17 01:57:59 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux) has loaded the live image
today without issue.

The original problem was almost certainly a CD read issue, and the only
useful input is the observation that the read checks failed, allowing a
non-functional system to be loaded.

The unreliability is not apparent on a CD written today, loaded today.

Today is very much warmer than it was in April.

[Bug 259044] Re: Support for multiplexed audio

2009-06-14 Thread Danny Piccirillo
For this to happen, music players must be able to play multiple tracks
contained in an audiofile simultaneously, and have a separate volume bar
for each one. For example, and ogg file could contain a song with a
separate track for the audio, guitar, and drums. The media players needs
to be able to play all of them at once, and adjust the volume for each
track separately.

[Bug 386997] Re: Aktualisierung fehlgeschlagen, Synaptic laeuft noch

2009-06-14 Thread Philip Muskovac
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please answer these questions:

* Is this reproducible?
* If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?

This will help us to find and resolve the problem.
Also the bug was assigned to the wrong package. Judging from the information
you gave I have classified this bug as a bug in update-manager.

Ajay wrote:

"Advanced" menu's are sign of conceptual problems and limitations, like
"Other..." menu options. They are *very* difficult for users because
they say "this is hard" which is a disincentive for users to explore
them, and because without being explored, users have no idea what is in
there!

So, let's avoid those :-)

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 210897 ***

I have experienced this bug both on 8.04 Hardy and still on 9.04 Jaunty.
Administrator cannot unlock System->Administration->Users & Groups while login
in from a remote desktop such as XDMCP or NX.

We are evaluating Linux solutions with remote desktops & thin clients.
This bug is very serious for us since it stops the possibility for many people
to use Ubuntu on business enterprise envinronments.

I'll try to do that, but your comment sound like I might have
misunderstood the rules..

That sounds to me that I would be able to take a whole sequence of maybe
5 cards and put them on the empty pile in the tableau. Do you suggest
that the move is just possible to do one card at a time?

Hi.

Attached you'll find an OpenOffice Writer document that uses a style
named Terminal_Test.

It uses the DejaVu Sans Mono font.

I exported it to PDF.

Evince renders the PDF incorrectly; it shows white horizontal lines
between paragraphs.

FoxIt Reader (Windows) renders the PDF correctly.

See attached files.

Thanks for your time.

Regards.

[Bug 360591] Re: Crash when doing a replace all: gedit crashed with SIGSEGV in gtk_text_iter_set_offset()

2009-06-14 Thread Huygens
Just for information, here is my last comment on the bugzilla tracker:

I have perform the test with the same data on 3 other platforms since the bug
report:
 1. - latest Ubuntu Karmic Koala (future 9.10) 32bit
 2. - latest Ubuntu 9.04 32bit
 3. - latest Ubuntu 8.04.2 LTS 32bit

The crash has been reproduced with platform 1 and 2. However, with
platform 3, there was no crash (though the CPU was as high as 100% for
several seconds). On platform 3, gedit is in version 2.22.3.

Just as a reminder, the platform used for the initial bug report was
Ubuntu 9.04 64bit.
