Making this change would break more than it would 'fix' as you either have to choose to use the Super key to open the applications menu or choose it to be a modifier for a large number of other actions. i think the answer to the stretched icon issue is not to difficult: 1) divide screen into grid divided by the default width/height of icons 2) order icons in whatever natural order you choose (alpha, date, etc.) 3) use a greedy placement algorithm such that: - icon is placed in the farthest-left, then farthest-top empty grid square, anchored by it's top-left corner - icon claims as non-empty any grid squares it overlaps - repeat with next icon obviously replace top-left with the text layout locale pref for right- left langs. -- 'keep aligned' does not work right https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/12608 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 87363] Re: Profile names are ambiguous
I would prefer one descriptive name per profile with codec name and specs in brackets. Even novices cannot ignore the codec because of compatibility with their playback devices. Mentioning codec names twice is against the DRY principle (don't repeat yourself). It opens the possibility of inconsistency for all those >280 languages! Furthermore these profiles set cornerstones for zillions of megabytes, so they should be chosen carefully. After what I've read and compared myself, CD Quality needs at least 160kbit/s MP3, whereas with OGG 128kbit/s would be enough, IMHO. So my preference would be something like: Lossless (WAV uncompressed) Lossless (FLAC compressed) High-end (MP3 VBR Q=6) High-end (QGG VBR Q=0.5) CD Quality (MP3 160kbit/s) CD Quality (OGG 128kbit/s) Normal (MP3 128kbit/s) Voice only (SPEEX VBR) Nice to see changes ahead here. [Bug 387508] Re: Totem reports 'do not have rights to file'
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. [Bug 25022] Re: Cannot mute microphone with Sound Blaster Live!
I have also been unable to mute the mic on Ubuntu 9.04. But I muted playback in another device that is present in the sound control (Capture: SB Live 5.1 - ADC Capture/Standard PCM Playback (PulseAudio Mixer) and it worked, so it seems that ALSA is not guilty here. However, running, e.g., Gnome Sound Recorder turns this playback on again and does not switch it off upon quiting. I think the Recorder ought not behave like this. -- Cannot mute microphone with Sound Blaster Live! https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/25022 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-media in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 387538] [NEW] window controls not displaying correctly with dust sand theme
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-themes Ubuntu Version: Description:Ubuntu 9.04 Release:9.04 possibly relevant: using nvidia closed-source driver using compiz package version: gnome-themes: Installed: 2.26.0-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 2.26.0-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 2.26.0-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/universe Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status when the mouse is hovered over the window controls, they are supposed to turn black. however, about 50% of the time they dont. sounds trivial but it is highly detractive from an otherwise excellent theme. those with sharp eyes will see that i have customised the theme by using icons from another theme, but this bug manifests itself with the the unaltered theme as well. the problem is with all three of the controls, not just the close control. i will upload a screenshot to illustrate. may i also add my second favourite is the "glossy" theme and i am totally amazed it was considered ugly and removed to an extra package that has to be installed. again the sharp eyed will see that the scoll- bars i am using are from that theme. ** Affects: gnome-themes (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- window controls not displaying correctly with dust sand theme https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/387538 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-themes in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
