[Bug 346846] [NEW] No password prompt for encrypted eSATA disk

2009-06-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: gnome-mount

I am using an up to date Jaunty Alpha (amd64 platform).

When plugging in a LUKS encrypted eSATA disk, no password prompt
appears. According to /var/log/messages the disk is detected by the
kernel but no encrypted device appears in Nautilus.

Mounting with pmount works fine.

It worked correctly in earlier Alpha versions of Jaunty.

Plugging in and mounting a non encrypted eSATA disk works.

Maybe some HAL events are missing that normally trigger execution of
gnome-mount?

First, this isn't a bug. Second, the SUPER key not being mapped to

[Bug 54024] Re: WIN key should be mapped to Applications menu

2009-06-15 Thread Travis Watkins
Making this change would break more than it would 'fix' as you either
have to choose to use the Super key to open the applications menu or
choose it to be a modifier for a large number of other actions.
Currently the code does not support both and it would not be a trivial
change to fix this so this bug does not quality as a paper cut.

Isn't this supposed to be for fixing annoyances. Yes it's relatively
easy to reconfigure this, in fact it's one of the first things I change
after an install. The fact remains that the "expected behaviour" for
the vast majority of new users is that that key open the main menu. I
don't care that it's been co-opted for some other purpose; it should not
have been!

[Bug 12608] Re: 'keep aligned' does not work right

2009-06-15 Thread keredson
i think the answer to the stretched icon issue is not to difficult:

1) divide screen into grid divided by the default width/height of icons
2) order icons in whatever natural order you choose (alpha, date, etc.)
3) use a greedy placement algorithm such that:
 - icon is placed in the farthest-left, then farthest-top empty grid square,
anchored by it's top-left corner
 - icon claims as non-empty any grid squares it overlaps
 - repeat with next icon

obviously replace top-left with the text layout locale pref for right-
left langs.

[Bug 378300] Re: gnome-volume-control does not update "Toggle audio recording from Capture" icon if the setting is changed from another application

2009-06-15 Thread Jarno Suni
It is reproducable.

1) open gnome-volume-control
2) check Capture track in preferences.
3) select Recording tab
4) run qamix
5) check Full in View menu
6) choose Capture tab
7) place windows side by side
8) toggle Activate below Capture track in qamix.
What happens: "Toggle audio recording from Capture" icon below Capture track in
gnome-volume-control does not toggle.
Expected behavior: "Toggle audio recording from Capture" icon toggles.

[Bug 314545] Re: gnome-screensaver bad password timeout

2009-06-15 Thread k c davis
I confirmed the problem is NOT CONSISTENT. Today I mistyped password
and immediately got "Password Incorrect", then about as fast as I could
read the message, the (re) Enter Password window redrew. That WAS when
unlocking after a "Lock Screen" request.

(I also frequently "Suspend" this system and haven't yet had a problem
unlocking from that, so wasn't immediately sure I'd ever seen a timely
recovery after bad password on locked screen.)

[Bug 334593] Re: documentation not accessible from yelp

2009-06-15 Thread See-ming Lee
fyi, there's now an idea on the Ubuntu Brainstorm that may interest you:

Idea #20219: Integrate Help Systems
http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/20219/

I am in favor of a unified help system across all documentation - or at
least provide some kind of index to locate them. Simply put, aptitude is
aware of any *-doc packages installed (aptitude search), and was able to
show me where those files got install (aptitude show) so it simply
doesn't make sense to me why there cant' be an index which points to all
of them (right now I wrote a bash script to find them but it seems it'd
make more sense for the system to implement such feature.

[Bug 386150] Re: Nautilus file browser toolbar is complicated, redundant, and ugly

2009-06-15 Thread Fabien Cortina
I remember seeing a mockup of Nautilus once (on planet.gnome.org) where the
zoom and view controls where moved to the status bar. In place of these
controls was a search field.
It's a pretty good idea because it makes use of a mostly unused space to keep
functionalities.

2009-06-15 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Marking gnome-power-manager task as invalid. I see no incorrect
behaviour from the power manager.

I also see this bug. It appears to be triggered by turning off the
display with DPMS. Once the display has been turned off, X seems unable
to turn it back on. The laptop is still responsive - network & activity
continues, and if KMS is enabled, SAKing X will turn the screen back on.
Confirming for the DDX component; I'm not sure why this would be kernel-
related when not using KMS. I'll do some more testing.

Re: [Bug 386837] Re: gimp-2.6 crashed with SIGSEGV in gimp_gradient_get_color_at()

2009-06-15 Thread shaniac
1. Create a new image, use the defaults, 640x400, 72ppi, RGB color
(it also crashes on every image I've tried, so it's not the image).
Select the gradient tool. Draw a little gradient line in the image
editing window. *CRASH*

2. I don't have a 32-bit system to test it on, sorry.

Image resolution as stated above, the selected unit is "px" for pixel.

Thanks,
Shane

[Bug 40872] Re: Desktop icons are allowed to overlap horribly

2009-06-15 Thread Brett Alton
I would say make a variable grid if people would like to keep variable
sized icons, meaning make a grid that is 32x32, 48x48, 64x64, 128x128
and then the default sorta-grid that Nautilus has right now...

That's how "KDE, XFCE, Windows 3.1 to 7, OS X" all have it as Pelládi
Gábor said.

I know this idea is too complex for One Hundred Paper Cuts, but it's an
important usability bug I think.

[Bug 359975] Re: evince sometimes yield error "Error printing: Too many failed attempts"

2009-06-15 Thread Adam Reeve
I'm having a similar issue with Evince. It's quite weird though, I seem
to always get this error if the Evince window is out of focus, but if I
keep the window in focus it works. Maybe it's just a coincidence, but
that's been my experience so far. I'm trying to print multiple pages
from a PDF, but not all pages and the printer is on another Ubuntu
computer shared using Samba.

[Bug 87363] Re: Profile names are ambiguous

2009-06-15 Thread Oliver Joos
I would prefer one descriptive name per profile with codec name and
specs in brackets. Even novices cannot ignore the codec because of
compatibility with their playback devices. Mentioning codec names twice
is against the DRY principle (don't repeat yourself). It opens the
possibility of inconsistency for all those >280 languages!

Furthermore these profiles set cornerstones for zillions of megabytes,
so they should be chosen carefully. After what I've read and compared
myself, CD Quality needs at least 160kbit/s MP3, whereas with OGG
128kbit/s would be enough, IMHO.

So my preference would be something like:
 Lossless (WAV uncompressed)
 Lossless (FLAC compressed)
 High-end (MP3 VBR Q=6)
 High-end (QGG VBR Q=0.5)
 CD Quality (MP3 160kbit/s)
 CD Quality (OGG 128kbit/s)
 Normal (MP3 128kbit/s)
 Voice only (SPEEX VBR)

Nice to see changes ahead here. This will make apps like sound-juicer
more usable out-of-the-box.

[Bug 238670] Re: gnome power manager No option in logoff dialog for suspend

2009-06-15 Thread linvald
Hi - I believe I understand what my problem was:
Since I have a desktop computer I unchecked Startup Applications -> Startup
Programs -> Power Manager mistakenly thinking power managemeent only applied to
battery driven computers.

Unchecking Power Manager will remove the Suspend and Hibernate options.
Running update manager brought the options back and so did checking
Power Manager back on. Not sure if this is the same mistake the users
are making? In my case the bug was the user :)

Thanks! Jesper

[Bug 25022] Re: Cannot mute microphone with Sound Blaster Live!

I have also been unable to mute the mic on Ubuntu 9.04. But I muted
playback in another device that is present in the sound control
(Capture: SB Live 5.1 - ADC Capture/Standard PCM Playback (PulseAudio
Mixer) and it worked, so it seems that ALSA is not guilty here. However,
running, e.g., Gnome Sound Recorder turns this playback on again and
does not switch it off upon quiting. I think the Recorder ought not
behave like this.

[Bug 387538] [NEW] window controls not displaying correctly with dust sand theme

2009-06-15 Thread ex-oficio

package version:

  Version table:
 *** 2.26.0-0ubuntu1 0

when the mouse is hovered over the window controls, they are supposed to
turn black. however, about 50% of the time they dont. sounds trivial but
it is highly detractive from an otherwise excellent theme. those with
sharp eyes will see that i have customised the theme by using icons from
another theme, but this bug manifests itself with the the unaltered
theme as well. the problem is with all three of the controls, not just
the close control. i will upload a screenshot to illustrate.

may i also add my second favourite is the "glossy" theme and i am
totally amazed it was considered ugly and removed to an extra package
that has to be installed. again the sharp eyed will see that the scoll-
bars i am using are from that theme.
