[Bug 61237] Re: Drag 'n Drop in list view doesn't work
I second this bug, this has been a source of endless annoyance for years! I don't like to use the words Windows and Usability in the same sentence, but they've actually solved this user interface idiocy very easily by the DnD selecting the folder you're in (not any of the subfolders) when you move the mouse to a column different from the name one, i.e. every other column (type, date, permission, owner, group, etc.) is treated as whitespace for DnD. This makes sense because you're no longer pointing directly at a directory where you want to drop the files. The error Nautilus makes is to assume that there is an invisible row all the way across the interface. Which means that when your DnD is pointing at for instance the 'type' column, Nautilus is still going to drop your files in the folder that the row corresponds to. -- Drag 'n Drop in list view doesn't work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/61237 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 48671] Re: Cannot rename by clicking on a file
For the love of all that is holy, DO NOT IMPLEMENT THIS! This was a stupid idea in Windows and it'll be a stupid idea in Ubuntu. When I click a file, 99.999% of times it's because I want to select it. Not rename it. And the moment the UI is just slightly unresponsive, or when I have selected the file and then realize I want to drag and drop it so I click it again, or a million other situations where I accidentally click the file twice, the rename idiocy is going to be activated instead. I think renaming a file is to be regarded as more intrusive an action than selecting it and it's good to have to right-click or press F2 to show that renaming it is actually what you want to do. -- Cannot rename by clicking on a file https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/48671 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-terminal Dear friends, Sentences which are supposed to be printed in right-to-left order in the terminal like Hebrew, Farsi and Arabic are printed left-to-right. @Textureglitch or when I have selected the file and then realize I want to drag and drop it so I click it again, Selecting a file (e.g., clicking once) and then dragging it (second click but hold it and drag around) won't activate the rename function. So no problem here, unless you aren't actually dragging it the second time around but instead clicking it (what for?!?). Yes,when you click a file, 99.999% of times (your number) it's because you want to select it But the second time you click a file, the chance is that the user (read: user coming from a windows or mac background, which would be a high number) WANTS to rename it. Why else would you want to click it the second time on purpose if it has NO function??? It's not about Windows way or GNOME way... Well, we have lots of ideas, but currently it's missing a developer's clear opinion... Dear Mat Tomaszewski what's your opinion? Have you got another proposal or do you agree with one of the current ones? When will you start to show us how are you going to change the toolbars? [Bug 390193] [NEW] Send To... should become Send To sub-menu
Public bug reported: At the moment Nautilus shows Send To... in it's right-click menu. This brings up a dialog with a drop-down list with items Instant Message (Pidgin), Email (Evolution), Removable disks and shares or CD/DVD Creator depending what is found. The rest of the dialog morphs depending on what you select, maybe showing another drop-down with online contacts. Opening this dialog, you will only see one option (Instant Message (Pidgin) if it's running). The other options are not immediately visible. These are unnecessarily buried, especially for a new user looking to send files to bluetooth or a flash drive. I believe showing these options in a sub-menu of Send To would increase discoverability. Pressing Instant Message (Pidgin) would just bring up the dialog with the correct item preselected in the drop-down list. Bluetooth and USB storage devices might be listed directly, after a separator, rather than showing the dialog. Does anybody have experience on how well new users discover these options, specifically sending to a device? ** Affects: hundredpapercuts Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: usability ** Also affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Send To... should become Send To sub-menu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/390193 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: yelp Description:Ubuntu karmic (development branch) Release:9.10 Grub2: 1.96+20090523-1ubuntu1 Grub2 fault. When I press 'e' to edit a highlighted menu option in the grub2 menu, it only displays the line: - 'set root = hd(0,1)', on all the menu options, apart from the memory test line. It's a bit random. Sometimes even occurs on the memory lines. But, if I select the command line option 'c' to go into grub from the same menu, and then just enter the command 'exit' to go back to grub and then select 'e' for edit again, the full kernel command line then appears. [Bug 269441] Re: Trash always full
This bug still happens in Jaunty. I suffer it from time to time, and the worst problem is that I don't know how to reproduce. After the trash applet is locked into full mode (I can't think of a better way of explaining it) it won't revert to normal behaviour until I log out and on again. Meanwhile I can delete files, empty the trash (and the files will disappear from ~/.local/share/Trash but the trash icon will stay full) and even open it to see it is empty. When the trash applet is behaving wrong, it always says N items in Trash when I hover the mouse over the applet icon, let's say that N is 5: if I delete another file, N is 6 (correctly, but if I empty the trash, N is 5 again, not 0 as it should. If I manage to reproduce the bug (now it happens randomly as far as I can tell) I'll update the report. Looking at the libx11-dev package source code I see that the 'Display' value is optimized out into a register variable, which is a pain since that is likely key to the bug and doesn't show up in gdb output. libx11/src/DefCursor.c: int XDefineCursor ( register Display *dpy, Window w, Cursor cursor) { This function is called from gtk+2.0-2.16.1/gdk/x11/gdkwindow-x11.c::gdk_window_x11_set_cursor() if (!GDK_WINDOW_DESTROYED (window)) { XDefineCursor (GDK_WINDOW_XDISPLAY (window), GDK_WINDOW_XID (window), xcursor); if (cursor) impl-cursor = gdk_cursor_ref (cursor); } Which comes from: #define GDK_WINDOW_XDISPLAY(win) (GDK_SCREEN_X11 (GDK_WINDOW_SCREEN (win))-xdisplay) #define GDK_SCREEN_X11(object) (G_TYPE_CHECK_INSTANCE_CAST ((object), GDK_TYPE_SCREEN_X11, GdkScreenX11)) #define GDK_WINDOW_SCREEN(win)(GDK_DRAWABLE_IMPL_X11 (((GdkWindowObject) win)-impl)-screen) -- two xscreens - gnome panel crashes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/278261 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 16722] Re: Something needs to set the region code on new DVD drives
this should not happen automatically as most dvd drives have a very limited number of changes. also it is not necessarily that you can guess based on the location information from the user (user might live in one country but have a collection of foreign disks, or may have 2 dvd drives and want them set to different regions). that means you need to ask the user if they want to set the region. more questions in the installer is generally a bad thing, especially as some users never will watch DVD films. so, surely this is a job for the media players to do rather than the installer. ** Also affects: totem (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Something needs to set the region code on new DVD drives https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/16722 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to totem in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
