 Thank you for your bug report. Just a couple questions. How are you
 trying to write a directory to a disk? Are you using a specific

1. Insert a new, blank DVD+R into the drive
2. Click Ok. Open CD/DVD Creator in the popup
3.  Places-Home folder
4. Drag the Documents icon into the CD/DVD Creator - File Browser
5. Click Write to Disc in the CD/DVD Creator - File Browser
6. Click Write in the Write to Disc popup
7. When the error popup appears, Help-Report a Problem before closing
the popup

The Documents directory contains some 1.2G
If I select a directory with 50M, it works.

This is related to size or directory structure.

What else can I do?

Thank you for this bug report. This may be a dumb question, but are you
getting sound from your other applications? Just trying to make sure it
is an issue with rhythmbox. In the meantime, while you are waiting for
this bug to be fixed, the Ubuntu Forums is a great place to get advice

[Bug 386150] Re: Nautilus file browser toolbar is complicated, redundant, and ugly

2009-06-21 Thread kikl
There is no location to display when you are doing a search? How about
displaying the location/folder, in which you are searching? If you use
the search field, the search should be conducted by default in the
folder, which is open. In the current implementation, the search bar
replaces the location bar and a new location bar is displayed below
search results indicating the location of search. That's just too
complicated.

[Bug 61237] Re: Drag 'n Drop in list view doesn't work

2009-06-21 Thread Textureglitch
I second this bug, this has been a source of endless annoyance for
years!

I don't like to use the words Windows and Usability in the same
sentence, but they've actually solved this user interface idiocy very
easily by the DnD selecting the folder you're in (not any of the
subfolders) when you move the mouse to a column different from the
name one, i.e. every other column (type, date, permission, owner,
group, etc.) is treated as whitespace for DnD.

This makes sense because you're no longer pointing directly at a
directory where you want to drop the files. The error Nautilus makes is
to assume that there is an invisible row all the way across the
interface. Which means that when your DnD is pointing at for instance
the 'type' column, Nautilus is still going to drop your files in the
folder that the row corresponds to.

[Bug 48671] Re: Cannot rename by clicking on a file

2009-06-21 Thread Textureglitch
For the love of all that is holy, DO NOT IMPLEMENT THIS!

This was a stupid idea in Windows and it'll be a stupid idea in Ubuntu. When I
click a file, 99.999% of times it's because I want to select it. Not rename it.
And the moment the UI is just slightly unresponsive, or when I have selected
the file and then realize I want to drag and drop it so I click it again, or a
million other situations where I accidentally click the file twice, the rename
idiocy is going to be activated instead.

I think renaming a file is to be regarded as more intrusive an action
than selecting it and it's good to have to right-click or press F2 to
show that renaming it is actually what you want to do.

[Bug 390179] [NEW] RTL is printed in reverse

2009-06-21 Thread Shahar Or
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

Dear friends,

Sentences which are supposed to be printed in right-to-left order in the
terminal like Hebrew, Farsi and Arabic are printed left-to-right.

I think that this makes the terminal unusable for RTL language users and
I think that it gives a very unprofessional impression to the system. It
even reminds me of the days when the WWW began to be widely adopted in
Israel and Hebrew pages in reverse were a common problem which people to
mess around with a lot to get working.

Can there be a simple fix for this, or does this need more serious
rewriting of code?

In any case, as impossible to fix as it might seem, I think that this
bug deserves to be confirmed and stay open until it is resolved or
worked around one way or another.

BTW, I know that this isn't specific to gnome-terminal. I think that
this happens in a deeper level so please change it properly.

Many blessings.

[Bug 48671] Re: Cannot rename by clicking on a file

2009-06-21 Thread agro1986
@Textureglitch

 or when I have selected the file and then realize I want to drag and drop it
 so I click it again,
Selecting a file (e.g., clicking once) and then dragging it (second click but
hold it and drag around) won't activate the rename function. So no problem
here, unless you aren't actually dragging it the second time around but instead
clicking it (what for?!?).

Yes,when you click a file, 99.999% of times (your number) it's because
you want to select it But the second time you click a file, the chance
is that the user (read: user coming from a windows or mac background,
which would be a high number) WANTS to rename it. Why else would you
want to click it the second time on purpose if it has NO function???

It's not about Windows way or GNOME way... It's about finding a better
way.

[Bug 387573] Re: Drop-down calendar does not close unless you click on it

2009-06-21 Thread Textureglitch
I actually enjoy the current calendar drop-down behavior and I don't
want it to change.

Right now I can browse and scroll freely in other windows while the
calendar is still visible; something I do often when trying to match an
email/schedule in a browser with my own current schedule.

If the calendar were to disappear when I click somewhere else then I
cannot go back and forth from scrolling in a window and changing the
month view in the calendar because it would get reset all the time.

Well, we have lots of ideas, but currently it's missing a developer's
clear opinion...
Dear Mat Tomaszewski what's your opinion? Have you got another
proposal or do you agree with one of the current ones?
When will you start to show us how are you going to change the toolbars?
Thanks

[Bug 390193] [NEW] Send To... should become Send To sub-menu

2009-06-21 Thread Lightbreeze
Public bug reported:

At the moment Nautilus shows Send To... in it's right-click menu. This
brings up a dialog with a drop-down list with items Instant Message
(Pidgin), Email (Evolution), Removable disks and shares or CD/DVD
Creator depending what is found.

The rest of the dialog morphs depending on what you select, maybe
showing another drop-down with online contacts.

Opening this dialog, you will only see one option (Instant Message
(Pidgin) if it's running). The other options are not immediately
visible. These are unnecessarily buried, especially for a new user
looking to send files to bluetooth or a flash drive.

I believe showing these options in a sub-menu of Send To would
increase discoverability. Pressing Instant Message (Pidgin) would just
bring up the dialog with the correct item preselected in the drop-down
list.

Bluetooth and USB storage devices might be listed directly, after a
separator, rather than showing the dialog.

Does anybody have experience on how well new users discover these
options, specifically sending to a device?

[Bug 390192] [NEW] grub2 edit option faulty

2009-06-21 Thread andy_spoo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

Description:Ubuntu karmic (development branch)
Release:9.10

Grub2: 1.96+20090523-1ubuntu1

Grub2 fault.

When I press 'e' to edit a highlighted menu option in the grub2 menu, it
only displays the line: - 'set root = hd(0,1)', on all the menu options,
apart from the memory test line. It's a bit random. Sometimes even
occurs on the memory lines.

But, if I select the command line option 'c' to go into grub from the
same menu, and then just enter the command 'exit' to go back to grub and
then select 'e' for edit again, the full kernel command line then
appears.

On install, Grub2 also detected my Ubuntu partition as hd(0,0), instead
of hd(0,1).

[Bug 372132] Re: Create Document Templates difficult to use

2009-06-21 Thread Gorka Navarrete
I think what bra10n is proposing could make an interesting topic for a
longer discussion but that it is in fact a slightly different thing.

In my case, the goal of right click, create whatever-document is to
create a document in that particular folder. If you have a complicated
folder hierarchy, open a blank document and then save it in the right
folder can be a lot more complicated than double clicking a new blank
file created in the right folder.

[Bug 390203] [NEW] disk mounter can leave encrypted disk half mounted

2009-06-21 Thread Dave Gilbert
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

Now in karmic disk-mounter shows my encrypted luks partition on my hard drive -
this is good.
When I click to mount it I need to enter the luks pass phrase, it then creates
the /dev/mapper entry for it;
sometimes it asks for the root password as well - as a second dialog - if I hit
cancel at that point it leaves
the /dev/mapper entry and hence the drive unlocked - but still shows it as
unmounted.

I believe that it should clean up and lock it again so that it's either
mounted or it's secure.

Looking at gdk_window_new() its parameters break down as:

Not clear what this indicates, but:

2009-06-21 Thread Steve Langasek
The actual fix was included in Debian version 2.26.0-3 of gnome-keyring,
and that fix is now in karmic. Changelog:

  * libgcr0.symbols, libgnome-keyring0.symbols: add
Build-Depends-Package fields.
  * libgp11-0.symbols: also add symbols file for libgp11.
  * Add missing build-dep on intltool.
  * Pass /etc/ssl/certs as the directory for root certificates.
  * Update glib dependency for libgnome-keyring-dev.
  * Standards version is 3.8.1.
  * 03_secure-mem_crash.patch: new patch, stolen upstream. Fixes
assertion error in the secure memory allocator. Closes: #522266.
  * pam-configs/gnome-keyring: ship a PAM configuration for the Password
stanzas.
  * libpam-gnome-keyring.install: install it.
  * libpam-gnome-keyring.{postinst,prerm}: run pam-auth-update.
  * Depend on libpam-runtime (= 1.0.1-6).
  * libpam-gnome-keyring.README.Debian: remove the documentation for the

[Bug 269441] Re: Trash always full

2009-06-21 Thread DervishD
This bug still happens in Jaunty. I suffer it from time to time, and the
worst problem is that I don't know how to reproduce.

After the trash applet is locked into full mode (I can't think of a
better way of explaining it) it won't revert to normal behaviour until I
log out and on again. Meanwhile I can delete files, empty the trash (and
the files will disappear from ~/.local/share/Trash but the trash icon
will stay full) and even open it to see it is empty.

When the trash applet is behaving wrong, it always says N items in
Trash when I hover the mouse over the applet icon, let's say that N
is 5: if I delete another file, N is 6 (correctly, but if I empty
the trash, N is 5 again, not 0 as it should.

If I manage to reproduce the bug (now it happens randomly as far as I
can tell) I'll update the report.

[Bug 278261] Re: two xscreens - gnome panel crashes

2009-06-21 Thread TJ
Looking at the libx11-dev package source code I see that the 'Display'
value is optimized out into a register variable, which is a pain since
that is likely key to the bug and doesn't show up in gdb output.

libx11/src/DefCursor.c:

int
XDefineCursor (
register Display *dpy,
Window w,
Cursor cursor)
{

This function is called from
gtk+2.0-2.16.1/gdk/x11/gdkwindow-x11.c::gdk_window_x11_set_cursor()

  if (!GDK_WINDOW_DESTROYED (window))
{
  XDefineCursor (GDK_WINDOW_XDISPLAY (window),
 GDK_WINDOW_XID (window),
 xcursor);

  if (cursor)
impl-cursor = gdk_cursor_ref (cursor);
}

Which comes from:

#define GDK_WINDOW_XDISPLAY(win)  (GDK_SCREEN_X11 (GDK_WINDOW_SCREEN
(win))-xdisplay)

#define GDK_SCREEN_X11(object)   (G_TYPE_CHECK_INSTANCE_CAST
((object), GDK_TYPE_SCREEN_X11, GdkScreenX11))

#define GDK_WINDOW_SCREEN(win)(GDK_DRAWABLE_IMPL_X11

win)-impl)-screen)

[Bug 390222] [NEW] Google Chrome-like tabs

2009-06-21 Thread Daniel Schierbeck
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: metacity

Would it be possible to add Google Chrome-style tabs to metacity, or
does that belong in GTK? It would really help with the utilization of
small screens -- even on my 12.1 screen every vertical pixel matters.
Since more and more apps are using tabs, this could benefit a lot of
them.

[Bug 24280] Re: applications run through gksu cannot use themes in ~/.themes

Mmmmh, i do think it's a papercut. I install ubuntu for a lot of people,
and lots of them complaint about the theme/icons doesn't appears for
applications that runs for root (on gksu), so i have to do a sudo cp -R
./icons /usr/share/icons and that stuff all the time (or run themes on
normal users, and then gksu themes).

This is a typical papercut, and trying to give a better eyecandy on

[Bug 16722] Re: Something needs to set the region code on new DVD drives

2009-06-21 Thread sam tygier
this should not happen automatically as most dvd drives have a very limited
number of changes. also it is not necessarily that you can guess based on the
location information from the user (user might live in one country but have a
collection of foreign disks, or may have 2 dvd drives and want them set to
different regions).
that means you need to ask the user if they want to set the region.
more questions in the installer is generally a bad thing, especially as some
users never will watch DVD films.
so, surely this is a job for the media players to do rather than the installer.

[Bug 388707] Re: brasero segfault on startup

2009-06-21 Thread Matt Davey
I listed steps 1,2,3 in my initial bug report: load an audio CD into
secondary slave IDE device, cancel gnome handler, fire up brasero and
get a segfault every time.

Doesn't seem to happen with data CDs, or with the secondary master IDE
device (dvd drive).

Hardware: primary IDE has two hard disks, secondary IDE has DVD on
master and CD burner on slave.

CD-burner is branded creative CD RW and shows up in dmesg as:
scsi 2:0:1:0: CD-ROMLITE-ON  LTR-12101B   LS3J PQ: 0 ANSI: 5
sr1: scsi3-mmc drive: 32x/32x writer cd/rw xa/form2 cdda tray
sr 2:0:1:0: Attached scsi CD-ROM sr1
