[Bug 398077] [NEW] No apparent way to restore default session start programs
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-session Dear friends, I think that there should be a way to tell which session startup programs are from the default set. Also, I think that there should be a way to restore them. For example, if a user deletes by accident the evolution alarm notifier, he might not even know which one he accidentally deleted and he might miss an appointment! Perhaps there should be a warning/confirmation dialog before deletion. Many blessings. [Bug 397412] Re: brasero fails when burning DVD
Having read an article about bugs in wodim and all sorts of controversy with the original cdrtools, I managed to replace the cdrecord and mkisofs on my system with 'originals' from http://cdrecord.berlios.de/private/cdrecord.html A simulation burn passed but my delight was short lived as again, an error occurred halfway through the write and the log shows the same issue: BraseroCDRecord stderr: cdrecord: Input/output error. write_g1: scsi sendcmd: no error Does it matter that I'm using SATA hdd and dvdrw? [Bug 398157] [NEW] Feature request: option to change the local display name of a folder without renaming the folder on a server
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution Unless I missed something, it is currently not possible to change the display name of an IMAP folder without renaming the folder on the server. But IMHO, this is an increasingly important feature. The rational behind this request is more or less the same than for the http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=206061: interoperability. More and more people need to be able to check their emails from different computers, and the use of webmail is becoming wide-spread. But those interfaces don't let you the choice of how to name the main folders (inbox, sent, trash, etc.). For example, with my ISP I have: - INBOX - DRAFT - OUTBOX - QUARANTINE - TRASH and I would like to see: - Inbox - Draft - Sent - Junk - Trash but renaming the folders breaks the webmail interface. The issue is even more annoying when you want to set up a system in a different language... Beside the fact that upper-case names are ugly, I don't think that my grand-mother should have to learn what OUTBOX and QUARANTINE mean in French! It would be great if it was possible to change the display name in the properties of the folder. The upstream author, Richard Hughes has committed the fix upstream: --- Comment #3 from Richard Hughes 2009-07-11 08:00 UTC --- Excellent bug, thanks for reporting this. I've fixes this in git master, it was a typo in the signal setup. [Bug 386150] Re: Nautilus file browser toolbar is complicated, redundant, and ugly
I also made one mockup more with text under the buttons. This is because it should follow the generic Gnome preference do you want to have text under the buttons or not. I think the default buttons with text are ok. I moved the Computer button to places (also can be found from Go menu in case left panel is not used). Combined the reload button with stop button. If loading something you need to stop before you can refresh. Removed Zoom and view drop down list, they can be found from view menu. Removed one before button (those down arrow buttons), left one with same functionality as in Firefox so can go back and forth from there if needed. Moved path next to buttons, nothing else on right side. And Finally combined Places in the left with tree view. I think these changes would not be too dramatic from end user point of view but would give more space for actual information what you are browsing, also it is easier to find files when you can use tree mode in left. Power users can still disable text under buttons but also novice users can understand for what purpose buttons are for. ** Attachment added: "Nautilus mockup" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/28914329/nautilus_mockup.png -- Nautilus file browser toolbar is complicated, redundant, and ugly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/386150 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. Unfortunately a paper cut should be a small usability issue that affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. I'm afraid this bug can't be addressed as part of this project. This is not a usability issue of an average user, but more of a personal preference,Further, middle button is not present in every mouse, Hence not a papercut. [Bug 398246] [NEW] Network browser only shows hostname, not share type / protocol
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus The network browser in Nautilus will adequately locate the available shares on your local network. However, it displays each one with a generic "server on the network" icon, along with the hostname that the share resides on. This is problematic if a single host has multiple services enabled. In the screenshot I have uploaded, you can see my default Network view, which shows 4 available shares, all located on the same host ("sluice"). By double-clicking on each, I was able to determine that: - the first "sluice" is SFTP - the second "sluice" is also SFTP. Why is this shown twice? - the third "sluice" is FTP - the fourth "SLUICE" is SMB, although there are no actual shares available. I consider this a moderate to severe usability annoyance that should be corrected before the next release. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Network browser only shows hostname, not share type / protocol https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/398246 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 398246] Re: Network browser only shows hostname, not share type / protocol
In case it wasn't clear from the original comment, the bug/annoyance I am reporting is that unless you actually double-click on one of these identically-named shares, you have no way of knowing HOW each share is attached (sftp, ftp, smb, etc). And because different resources are often made available over different protocols, this information is as important as the hostname itself when the user is trying to locate data (which is the whole point of connecting to the network). -- Network browser only shows hostname, not share type / protocol https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/398246 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Sebastien, I am currently experiencing this issue on my jaunty system. When I plug in the MTP device, it automounts the mp3 player and adds 2 entries to the disk mounter applet as well. Once it is automounted a window opens up asking if I would like to open the device with rhythmbox, however rhythmbox cannot see it because it has been mounted by gphoto2. You can do this easily by doing: gconftool-2 --set --type bool /apps/gnome-power- manager/use_time_for_policy false This should get the policy actions working for you, but of course the time remaining will still be incorrect. ** Changed in: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- gnome-power-manager reports battery alive when it appears to be dead https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/351437 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
