[Bug 386150] Re: Nautilus file browser toolbar is complicated, redundant, and ugly
@Marcus: sure, no problem... I'v been using your ppa in Karmic, and my observations: 1: I Find the lack of the "Up" Button crippling. I would even suggest replacing the "Home" button with the "Up" button. But I have realized there is more space wasted due to the 2 drop down buttons. We could remove one drop down button and reduce its size , This is allows us to Add the "Up" button without compromising the space. The single button can function like firefox's drop down menu. I'v attached a mockup of the idea... 2: You might already be aware of this, but just to bring to your attention. The Appearance Preferences > Interface > Toolbar Button labels option has no effect. ** Attachment added: "With Up Button.png" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/29216372/With%20Up%20Button.png -- Nautilus file browser toolbar is complicated, redundant, and ugly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/386150 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Oh... and before people jump on the "Up" not needed because of breadcrumbs. Karmic testing. Great job Marcus! Only two things: 1. we could move Home and Search icons to "places" area, we need to free space on main toolbar. I didn't like the double url-bar and search-bar. 2. in Places area, Home reference is ok, instead for Search (icon + "Search" label) we could have an input text field. We don't need to click on a search-icon, open a windows or whatever and digit some text; we could write directly on that field. [Bug 400940] Re: Evolution crashes using Search field in Current Account
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. [Bug 401036] [NEW] gdm fails to read ~/.dmrc when pam_mount is used to mount users home directory
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm Obviously, GDM has to fail when reading anything from the users home directory if that is not yet mounted. For this reason it might not be a good idea to rely on reading stuff from the users home directory before authentication (PAM) has completed. In my case GDM tries to set the preferred keyboard layout from ~/.dmrc. This fails and I get a keyboard layout which is constantly confusing me when I try to log in (my password is affected by the keyboard layout setting). GDM should have a means to set the keyboard layout preferences independent of the user. Maybe a system-wide default would be sensible. Or actually, the keyboard layout should be at first coupled to the attached keyboard (type) and only second to the user. Most users wouldn't work with a layout not matching their keyboard anyways. [Bug 401047] [NEW] Greeter doesn't have the right keymap set
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm My symptoms are the same as bug 395103: although my keymap is set to dvorak in HAL, and previous versions of gdm honored this, it's now using a USA keymap. There is a drop-down which allows a keymap to be selected, but selecting Dvorak doesn't seem to have any effect (the keymap remains USA/qwerty). I see the patch was dropped because this is believed fixed upstream, so I'm filing this separately as it may be a different problem: gdm (2.26.1git20090717-0ubuntu1) karmic; urgency=low [...] * Drop patches which are fixed upstream: [...] - 02_dont_force_us_keyboard.patch ProblemType: Bug Architecture: amd64 Date: Sat Jul 18 12:07:23 2009 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10 Package: gdm 2.26.1git20090717-0ubuntu1 ProcEnviron: LC_COLLATE=C PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/zsh ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.31-3.19-generic SourcePackage: gdm Uname: Linux 2.6.31-3-generic x86_64 ** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug -- Greeter doesn't have the right keymap set https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/401047 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

@Marcus , The Firefox style , i think you got it from Danielsan's explanation... if not, firefox drop-down shows both the Back & Forward locations Other problems I found 1: The Search button is too close to breadcrumbs , its now easier to trigger this bug > https://bugs.launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts/+bug/57210 2: Right side is very empty. I have attached a screenshot of my setup [it the same as yours but I'v added separators, before the breadcrumbs ,also i replaced Home with Up, other than that it is the same] > It Shows the emptiness of the right side To avoid the search bug, I'v added a mockup, Its better to move it to the search to the right, just to the left of the spinner. [Bug 401061] [NEW] nautilus item properties problem
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus When opening the properties of an image with nautilus, the window that is opened have some problems. The width of the windows seems to be the size of the longest string in the properties. In my case the keyword string for the image file: "Keywords: abstract, background, beautiful, botany, change, climate, close, close-up, closeup, colorful, colour, colourful, decoration, flora, foliage, fresh, gradient, green, herb, isolated, leaf, leaves, life, limb, line, macro, natural, nature, net, organic, path, pattern, plant, sample, season, seasons, specimen, spring, structure, summer, surface, symbol, system, texture, tissue, tree, up, vein, yellow, network" I have attached the image file that produces the problem and a screen shot of the result. I assume there is two problems: - first, the string should be formated with a maximum width (a multi-line field) - second, any property window should never be bigger than the screen size This is not a important bug in terms of functionality but it is a bug in terms of image. [Bug 400820] Re: gnome-volume-control-applet takes up to 40% cpu
After a check of synaptic, I have noticed that removing, and even purging pulseaudio does not remove many of its component parts, which parts continue to function, uselessly spinning the wheels looking for pulseaudio. Gnome-volume-control applet is only one of them. One of the sound apps that is called up in firefox clearly tries to "grab" pulsuaudio, and starts the volume-control applet running. In firefox, when the application says "this media requires a plug-in" the suggested plug-in is likely to require pulse, because the system does not check whether pulse is there or not. Clearly, removing pulseaudio is tricky and requires its own page of documentation, at the very least. The good situation would be to have the --purge command remove ALL related programs that grab it, like gnome-volume-control. -- gnome-volume-control-applet takes up to 40% cpu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/400820 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 401066] [NEW] Totem crashes while playing xvid encoded files and DVDs

Other types of AVI files (like DivX encoded) seem to work fine. I've tried to play the file in VLC, Totem, MPlayer...VLC and Totem crash while MPlayer gives sound but no video. If launched from terminal totem exits with the following output: /var/lib/python-support/python2.6/gdata/tlslite/utils/cryptomath.py:9: DeprecationWarning: the sha module is deprecated; use the hashlib module instead import sha The program 'totem' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'. (Details: serial 73 error_code 11 request_code 132 minor_code 19) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
