[Bug 273142] Re: screensaver won't release with mouse movement

2009-07-28 Thread mac_v
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. Unfortunately a paper
cut should be a small usability issue that affects many people and is
quick and easy to fix. I'm afraid this bug can't be addressed as part of
this project.

Unable to reproduce this either in Karmic or Jaunty. [tested Using GL* and
others mentioned here]
This seems to be a hardware specific issue. Hardware specific issues are not
papercuts.

A paper cut is a minor usability annoyance that an average user would
encounter on his/her first day of using a new installation of Ubuntu
9.10.

For further info about papercuts criteria , pls read
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut

Don't worry though, This bug has been marked as invalid ONLY in the
papercuts project.

[Bug 405544] Re: unable to burn CD or DVD with Brasero with 2.6.31 kernel

Brasero does not detect the burner even with the newest 2.6.31-4-generic kernel
on 64-bit Ubuntu Karmic.
I did manage to burn a disc sucessfully with Gnomebaker - I do not know if
there is a verify option
Also burn a disc with k3b - it seems to finish sucessfully but gives an error
on verification - track 1 differs? if I remember correctly.

[Bug 405695] Re: (Jaunty) Regular crashes during transfer of images from Sony DCR-SR55E

2009-07-28 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 390488] [NEW] gpm manual errors: 8.2 8.6

2009-07-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-docs

8.2 - The caution/warning section
You still use a small amount of battery power whilst suspended, so is not
recommended for the low power action. If you remove AC power on a desktop, or
run out of battery power on a laptop then you will lose your work.

Should be:
...so is not recommended for the low or critical power actions. ...

Reasoning: I shouldn't use it for low, but I can for critical? Clarity.

8.6 - Title
Why does not my IBM laptop have the brightness sliders in Power Preferences?

Should be:
Why doesn't Power Preferences show the brightness sliders for my IBM laptop?

Reasoning: The laptop doesn't have possession of the slider, power
prefs does. Furthermore, why does not noun is not correct grammar,
it is why does noun not; however, when using it as a contraction it
is usually accepted, as in my correction.

Would also need changed in the index, at the top.

[Bug 44082] Re: GNOME Panel icons (on right side) move apparently randomly on session start in some situations

2009-07-28 Thread Ryan Maki
I've ported the patch from Gnome Bug 314235 forward to the latest jaunty
version 2.26.0-ubuntu7 of gnome-panel. Attached is the patch file
already in quilt format. I've also applied this patch and built gnome-
panel to my PPA for testing. Brave souls can try the patched version of
the panel and report back to me their experiences.

https://edge.launchpad.net/~ryan.maki/+archive/ppa

This is the first patch I've distributed, please be nice. I have been
testing it on my work and home laptops and neither of them have caught
fire. It also seems to help prevent the (right-side) icons moving around
on screen changes.

If you are going to test it, keep in mind, this keeps gnome-panel from
changing the icon positions when the screen changes, but you may already
have out-of-place positions for your panel applets in GConf. As Karl
Hegbloom suggested, *if you know what you are doing* you can update the
GConf settings manually to set the correct order.

If this tests well I'll start the process of getting this moved upstream
(and into Ubuntu of course).

** Attachment added: Patch from Gnome Bug 314235 ported to 2.26.0 code

[Bug 405660] [NEW] Ubuntu 9.10 F-Spot crashes after clicking Fullscreen or Slideshow buttons

2009-07-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Ubuntu 9.10 F-Spot crashes (window becomes not responsible) when
clicking on Fullscreen or Slideshow buttons if desktop effects are
enabled or disabled. After clicking on thumbnail image, it is not
dispalyed bigger (as normal).

In Ubuntu 9.04 if desktop effects are enabled and you start slide show,
there are a second long irrigating screen flickering before slideshow
starts, and a white screen before second slide starts. Without desktop
effects all is OK.

2009-07-28 Thread Joe
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 315809 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/315809

# WORK-AROUND FOR AUDIO PROBLEM #

1.) Manually adjust the mixer settings to something that is a good
default for your audio needs. These settings will be loaded every time
you restart your computer.

2.) Change the file permissions for /var/lib/alsa/asound.state to enable
read/write access for the group/others (open the folder in Thunar, then
right-click the file, select properties, and go to the Permissions tab).
If you don't do this, then the next step will give you a permission
denied error.

3.) Open up a terminal and enter the command alsactl store (without
the quotes). This stores your mixer settings in
/var/lib/alsa/asound.state for later use.

4.) From The Xubuntu/Xfce menu, go to Settings and open Sessions and
Startup. Go to the Application Autostart tab and click the Add button.

5.) Enter the command alsactl restore (without the quotes) and the
name and description of your choice. This causes the alsactl restore
command to automatically run when you start your computer. The command
restores you mixer settings from /var/lib/alsa/asound.state where you
saved them earlier.

[Bug 51043] Re: rightclick - paste missing in contextmenu when pointer is above files/folders

2009-07-28 Thread Christian A. Reiter
don't exactly know what you mean with space in dest folder is full -
disk space? no, please explain.

in Dolphin/Konqueror you can right-click on the whitespace right to the file
names in detail view or anywhere in between the files in the symbols view, and
choose Paste, when you right-click on a folder, you can choose paste into
folder.
IMO this is the way nautilus should do it as well.

Satish, does this answer your question?

[Bug 405799] Re: evolution crashes with calendar-gui-CRITICAL **: simple_recur_to_comp: assertion `GTK_BIN (priv-special)-child != NULL' failed

2009-07-28 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-
file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where
_my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 404321] Re: gnome-screensaver should allow screen unlock even if account is locked out

2009-07-28 Thread Thierry Carrez
Well, it's not totally unusable since you can still switch to another
user. And there should be other users available if you're under a domain
setup. The whole account locking AD feature is buggy, since every
large AD domain user knows they can easily lock out someone else's
account.

I guess in the end it all depends on how being locked out translates,
since I can imagine a bug asking for the complete contrary of what
you're asking.

In that discussion, it might be worth considering that Microsoft does
not apply lockout policy to the screen unlock dialog:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/188700

Maybe gnome-screensaver's unlock screen dialog could be taught to
recognize a specific locked error code, but I'm far from convinced we
should do that.

[Bug 273142] Re: screensaver won't release with mouse movement

2009-07-28 Thread Ramon Rocha
Awe, oh well.

I'm not sure I am convinced it is hardware specific. People with
nvidia, ati, and intel drivers have all reported it in the comments.

I just did a quick test because it used to happen on my machine but
doesn't anymore. However, it's one of the first things my wife ran into
on the machine I recently built her. SpirographX seems to correctly
respond to mouse movement. The screensaver Pacman does not. Make sure
you wait for the screensaver to run for a little bit because if you move
it soon it will work correctly.

[Bug 404321] Re: gnome-screensaver should allow screen unlock even if account is locked out

2009-07-28 Thread Alex Mauer
It's totally unusable to me, since I only have one AD account so
switching to another user isn't really viable.

Obviously there's the workaround of going to a console session as root
and killing gnome-screensaver, but that's just silly in my opinion.

Interesting that the microsoft support link doesn't give a rationale
either way for this policy. It would probably be good to have it as a
configurable option though, rather than forcing it to work one way or
the other.

Wouldn't a locked account result in a successful pam auth, but
unsuccessful pam account result, rather than checking for a specific
error code?

[Bug 51043] Re: rightclick - paste missing in contextmenu when pointer is above files/folders

2009-07-28 Thread Patrick Roberts
don't exactly know what you mean with space in dest folder is full -
disk space? no, please explain.

Of course he isn't talking about disk space. Is it so difficult to understand?
What he means:
In List View each row contains one file. Let's say, there's enough room in the
window to fit 40 rows in it (so 40 files can fit in this window).

Now you copy a file and you try to paste it in the destination foler. If
the destination folder contains less than 40 files, there are some empty
rows left, so you can use this empty space to paste the file. If the
destination folder contains 40 files or more than 40 files, there's no
more space left to do a secundairy click to be able to paste the file,
so the destination folder is full (not in terms of available bytes,
but number of empty rows a.k.a. whitespace).

in Dolphin/Konqueror you can right-click on the whitespace right to the file
names in detail view or anywhere in between the files in the symbols view, and
choose Paste, when you right-click on a folder, you can choose paste into
folder.
IMO this is the way nautilus should do it as well

I also did a test and you're completely right. This is the way Nautilus
should work. This is the way all file managers (except Nautilus) work.

[Bug 285682] Re: Ubuntu 8.10 can't mount digital camera showing a window popup message: -60 could not lock the device message

2009-07-28 Thread Lee Kelvin
I'm not sure if its of any use to some, but I was having this problem
and found a solution (thats nothing to do with gthumb - I dont have
gthumb installed, and so after reading through this post went away to
find a solution of my own!)

I was getting the same thing, plug in my camera (an iPhone in this case)
and it would appear on the desktop twice, with 2 popups asking me what
to do with the camera (run f-spot, do nothing etc) and 1 error -60 box
as described above (no error -1). Its obvious that 2 programs are
grabbing this when I plug the phone in.

I tried removing a few recently installed packages, as recently I've
been trying to use itunnel to get into my iPhone filesystem. itunnel
requires libiphone0 and libiphone-dev, dependencies of which are
libusbmux0 and libusbmux-dev. After removing libusbmux0 and libusbmux-
dev - voila, only 1 phone icon on my desktop and only 1 popup (no
errors).

Does mean i cant use itunnel any more... but it wasnt working any way -
boo

Hope that helps somebody with a similar problem!

[Bug 405823] [NEW] MTP / gphoto2 device not showing files

2009-07-28 Thread Lee
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 9.04 (64-bit) when I connect Sony MP3 player NWZ-S615F,
Nautilus (1:2.26.2-0ubuntu2) shows These files are on a digital audio
player with a button to open Rhythmbox, and does not display the files
(just blank empty list, and gphoto2://[usb:001,011]/ in the address
bar). I expected standard removable disk behaviour. Rhythmbox also
doesn't seem to recognize it, and I wasn't able to connect to it via
other media-player applications in Linux.

Workaround (and why I think this is a nautilus issue):
When messing around to fix the problem (adding/removing MTPFS, gphoto2 drivers
etc) I did occasionally manage to trick Nautilus into mounting/displaying the
files as a normal removable disk (which would be fine), which suggested to me
that the problem is that Nautilus tries to do something too clever in trying to
implement the MTP interface (but failed when it came to the crunch). I found
that by uninstalling nautilus (which I did by mistake trying to remove the
gphoto2 packages) I was in Dolphin which correctly showed the mounted removable
disk. My workaround is therefore to live without Nautilus and use Dolphin
instead, which is not pretty or desirable in a ubuntu desktop. I have also
tried reformatting the disk (in Windows) but this didn't help.

If this is too difficult to fix properly, could the libgphoto2 / MTP
functionality be optionally turned-off in Nautilus, allowing it to just
display as removable disks? I'm quite happy with dragging/dropping
files and don't need all the bells and whistles of MTP (though I do
desire the ability to view meta-data columns like album/title/date-
picture-taken etc in the list-view of nautilus, like in XP: separate
feature-request coming soon). By-the-way XP also had problems with this
MP3 player, and I had to upgrade Media Player to get it to communicate,
so this is not just a Linux issue. If I'd have realised the MP3 player
would not behave like a standard removable disk I would never have
bought it, though otherwise it's a really nice gadget.
