[Bug 407698] Re: Don't show Stretch Icon... in context-menus by default
FWIW, Zoom in/out/normal would have been added only to the right-click menu for the Desktop, and not the menu for files on the Desktop. I just meant to illustrate there might be other ways to do this. I see you want more thought on this. I never meant to blindly remove functionality without consideration. @A. Walton, I don't want to play UI designer on this one. I just want a sensible discussion _with_ UI designers who are willing to re-look at the functionality. I realise it is more appropriate to discuss this on a mailing list. I'll create a thread asking how people are using the functionality before coming back here with feedback. -- Don't show Stretch Icon... in context-menus by default https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/407698 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 407621] Re: Icons missing from context menu , dialogue buttons , firefox bookmark favicons
Setting the two gconf keys to true specifically for Ubuntu is quite possible (as it's just a default setting that changed, no icons have been removed for those who wish to keep the old behavior), however, when mpt, Mark Shuttleworth and myself discussed this at the GNOME User Experience hackfest in October last fall, all three of us agreed it was a good idea (it might even have been Mark that first suggested it) and mpt have been very driving behind this change upstream. -- Icons missing from context menu , dialogue buttons , firefox bookmark favicons https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/407621 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 407621] Re: Icons missing from context menu , dialogue buttons , firefox bookmark favicons
From upstream comments , i dont think mpt was driving this change. He was more reluctant against this move... Comment #14 from Matthew Paul Thomas (mpt) 2008-12-29 11:25 UTC [reply] I agree with Jeff Schroeder (comment 12) in that merely setting menus_have_icons=false by default, and doing nothing else, would not make anyone happy and therefore should not be done. I think this bug report is a bit confused because it started with a proposed solution rather than with a problem. He has been always driving for a better implementation of the idea rather than simply removing the icons... Well... maybe his stance on this issue has changed ... *only mpt can clarify on this* . [Bug 382626] Re: Nautilus location bar toggle icon implies unrelated function
I'm going to have to go with Kalle and say that the real solution is to redesign the location bar. Also, I'm going to have to say that this papercut is not a bug in any icon set, but with nautilus. [Bug 408029] [NEW] Monochrome icons in notification area
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel It would be nice if all icons in the notification area would be all colored monochrome. You can see a similar effect in how icons on the Mac OS X panel are all black: they look great and bring contrast to the notification area. Monochrome icons are also much less distracting, color could be used is your attention is really necessary (like when the battery is almost empty). [Bug 408095] [NEW] Disable touchpad while typing should ignore modifier keys when monitoring keyboard activity
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon The Disable touchpad while typing option is useful to avoid accidental touchpad actions while typing. But the current implementation makes it inconvenient to press e.g. Ctrl and Left touchpad button simultaneously. It would be much better if the modifier keys where ignored when monitoring keyboard activity. Re: [Bug 399492] Re: Feature request : Possible improvements for notifications
I'm just working on the strings and not touching the icons yet. This is because the strings patch will go upstream and the icons/notify-osd patch should be done within Ubuntu. I'm getting close to finishing it and sending it upstream. Ubuntu used to have it's own notify-osd patch, but Martin Pitt has disabled the notify-osd patch for GPM (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power-manager/+bug/406396) since upstream has changed how they handle notifications. The notify-osd patch needs to be rewritten, see bug #406396. Would either of you be able to work on that side of it? I took a stab at it here: bug 390669, but that patch was written against 2.27.1, I updated it to 2.27.2, and soon we will have 2.27.3. Status in Gnome Powermanager: Confirmed Status in “gnome-power-manager” package in Ubuntu: In Progress Bug description: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager Hello, I'm writing this feature request because I believe power notifications can be greatly improved by being simplified to the strict necessary. I began a discussion about this subject, that you can find on the Ayatana ML ( https://lists.launchpad.net/ayatana/msg00146.html ), and I ended up drafting new triggered and non-triggered notifications, as follows (preview of the result here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkdaiXXcv8w ) : Icon info Title Power information Body Computer is running on battery power Laptop battery 1 hour 45 minutes remaining (72.0%) Becomes Icon notification-battery-070 Title 1:45 hours remaining I'll include a file (the shell script used for the video above) with many more examples, and proposals of improvement for the battery low notifications too. The icons are created and uploaded into the Human icon theme. If needed, they can be put in notify-osd. They basically convey the % left and plugged / not plugged information to make the text part lighter (images can hold much more meaning than words in some cases). Obviously I think this is implementable only as an Ubuntu patch (at least till the notification-* icons get some recognition outside of notify-osd / ubuntu), but I still think it's worth a try as it makes notifications _really_ easier to read. Voilà. If you need any other information about this feature request, please let me know ASAP. I really hope this can be done for Karmic. -- Feature request : Possible improvements for notifications https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/399492 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 48671] Re: Cannot rename by clicking on a file
Wouldn't it make sense to use a triple click for it? A single click to select the file, a double click to open it (or nothing when clicking on the name label), and a triple click to rename it. Triple clicks is a lot of clicks, and nobody does it without intending to edit it. When I click on a file in Windows to rename I just click 'frantically' on the label until I can it. To me, the behavior in Windows is a bit random (could be due to poor mouse aiming). Yes, karmic is exactly the same. [Bug 408170] [NEW] tooltip in System Monitor Network applet, doesn't reflect real usage that shows in the App
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor Mint 7 Gloria, fully updated to date. Tooltip for the network monitor applet does not reflect what is actually happening. I've got a constant 1kbs up and fluctuating download, yet tool tip says 0kbs both ways. The app itself is working fine, and does reflect what is happening.
