Re: [Bug 418995] Re: tried installing gtk-gnutella_0.96.5-1build1_i386.deb java packages did not download

2009-08-25 Thread rainmaker
Thanks Dave, am just a user myself. Made a mistake on that score
downloaded both gtk-gnutella and Frostwire tried both installed
Frostwire finally, and now finally recognized the problem. Leaving the
download of the java packages unattended. The agreement needed
confirmation. Canceling or un installing in the morning did not work.
Finally had to install sun java, looks like a bit of arm twisting to me.
Not using the package for now, may dump everything soon. Too scared to
do anything for now.

[Bug 260950] Re: f-spot slideshow shows strange effetcs on the first photo

2009-08-25 Thread marco.pallotta
I tried the issue on Jaunty with compiz effects disabled (due to blacklisted
vga device) and I saw not strange effects of first photo during slideshow.
I too suspected something related to compiz but in this bug discussion there
are people that have the issue either with compiz effects enabled or with
compiz effects not enabled.

However I will try to enable compiz effects to see if on Jaunty, with compiz
disabled, the issue happens to me.
svaens, you noticed the issue on Jaunty with compiz effects enabled or not?

[Bug 419045] [NEW] Update F-Spot to 0.6.1.0

2009-08-25 Thread b3n87
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

Can we update to a bug-release version?

http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/gnome/sources/f-spot/0.6/f-spot-0.6.1.0.news

f-spot 0.6.1.0 - Aug 25 2009 - Tea Time
---
- bugfix release, while development continues on master:
  - fix some crashers
  - reduce the both the package size and installed size by a few Megs
  - works on gtk+ > 2.17
  - load .pcx files
  - extendable slideshow
  - ~30 bugs fixed
  - updated translations

Key benefits for Ubuntu devs and users are bugs fixed, smaller package
file size, and some translations :-)

I'm not a developer, but it's not immediately clear to me what error
you're reporting. Did you try to apt-get install gtk-gnutella and not
receive the packages? If so, reporting against apt-get and/or posting a

Also, as a user of gtk-gnutella myself, I would recommend using the

[Bug 204547] Re: Fortran files: gedit code-comment plugin and gtksourceview

2009-08-25 Thread John M
Hi,

The issue with wrong mime type assignment due to "!-" or uppercase file
extension is solved in Jaunty (and, so far, it's working just fine in
Karmic Alpha 4). Although the syntax highlighting still misbehaves.
For example:

^program test
^character arg
^call testsub(arg)
^case('a')
^case default
^cycle
^end program test

All the lines within the program block are highlighted as comments
---according to the fortran.lang file incluided with Jaunty and Karmi
(alpha 4), that's due to a "hack to avoid considering ^COMMON a
comment". The hack, at line 46, is:

  !|(^[Cc](\b|[^Oo]))

A better form would be:

  !|^[*]|(^[Cc](\b|[^OoAaHhYyLl]))

Although there might be better ways (I've never been good at regular
expressions).

Also, there are some missing keywords (in regards to Fortran 95; e.g.,
ALLOCATE, DEALLOCATE, DEFAULT, INTERFACE...) and none of the Fortran
2003 keywords are included (e.g., BIND).

GFortran has supported the Fortran 2003 ISO C Bindings (among other
Fortran 2003 features) since 2006 at least, so it's about time they're
included in the gtksourceview file.

My version of the fortran.lang file was attached to a previous post in
this bug report (it includes the new hack and the missing keywords,
among others); it can be used to improve the current version of the
fortran.lang file a little bit.

[Bug 24874] Re: [network-admin] aliases hostname to 127.0.0.1 unconditionally

2009-08-25 Thread Shai Berger
No, I meant that I had found a version of an old network.pl in my system
and had thought it was modern.

I've taken another short look at system-tool-backends, and found
ensure_loopback_statichost in line 329 of Network/hosts.pm. If that
function is called with the hostname, it still does what this bug
complains about; however, as that is its name, that's not really
surprising... the point of the bug was that hostname should not always
be an alias of loopback. Finding if the function is really called when
the hostname is already defined is beyond me at this point -- I don't
even know if it is exposed to GUIs or not. So, actually, I'm no longer
sure if the bug is solved, and if not, which package it belongs in.

Hope this helps...

[Bug 418984] Re: Bloomberg TV Does Not Play Sound

2009-08-25 Thread komputes
There are a few issues reported against bloomberg.com :
Crash when playing video - Bug #419000
Content Encoding Error caused by ad in video (I think) - Bug #375784

The link you sent seems to play a flash video and not a totem video. The
video is an ad and plays fine (with sound). Can you please include more
detail on how to reproduce this issue.

-Are you always able to reproduce this?
-Actions to reproduce the bug.
-Expected result of actions.
-Actual result of actions.

[Bug 413486] Re: Network Proxy application fail to start

2009-08-25 Thread kylea
Hi Pedro - not sure about Sam, but I keep two disks with Karmic on them
for testing purposes and do full file-system backups with fsarchiver so
I can test for and recover from regressions.

So its a lot of work to keep up with the various updates and while
ensuring I can roll back to re-test individual parts of large updates.

In this case I guess the comment might have been better put as:

"Hey check the status of the Bug - Its not yet "Fix Released" - hence do
not expect any change in behaviour. There is no need to confirm as there
is a comment re an upstream fix coming..."

I am sure Sam was trying to be helpful :)

[Bug 259163] Re: users-admin does not sort when Name/Login/Homedir field clicked

2009-08-25 Thread Gavin McCullagh
I've been looking through the code for this and am adding some notes
here in case they help anyone else (or me to recall later).

As Jordan observes, these errors are telling us about the problem:

(users-admin:724): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_tree_sortable_get_sort_column_id:
assertion `GTK_IS_TREE_SORTABLE (sortable)' failed
(users-admin:724): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid cast from
`GtkTreeModelFilter' to `GtkTreeSortable'
(users-admin:724): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_tree_sortable_has_default_sort_func:
assertion `GTK_IS_TREE_SORTABLE (sortable)' failed
(users-admin:724): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid cast from
`GtkTreeModelFilter' to `GtkTreeSortable'
(users-admin:724): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_tree_sortable_set_sort_column_id:
assertion `GTK_IS_TREE_SORTABLE (sortable)' failed

What seems to be happening is that the function create_users_model() in
users-table.c is creating a GTKTreeModel of type GTK_TREE_MODEL_FILTER
instead of eg. plain type GTK_TREE_MODEL. When the code in
create_users_table() calls gtk_tree_sortable_set_sort_column_id() this
fails because the GTK_TREE_MODEL_FILTER is not sortable.

There is some discussion on this issue and a proposed solution here:

http://mail.gnome.org/archives/gtk-list/2005-February/msg00177.html

This is all I have gleaned so far and may be well wide of the mark, but
I shall persevere.

2009-08-25 Thread aeosynth
Er, it turns out that I just needed to install the unzip package. Could
I change this bug to a 'needs better error messages' feature request?
Evince should have told me to go install the unzip package.
Alternatively, it should have been able to use the unzip mechanism
provided by p7zip-full.

Should I update the description or make a new bug?

Thanks.

[Bug 418961] [NEW] hibernate option shown when no swap file exists karmic

2009-08-25 Thread El Toozero
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-session

Description:Ubuntu karmic (development branch)
Release:9.10

gnome-session:
  Installed: 2.27.5-0ubuntu2
  Candidate: 2.27.5-0ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 2.27.5-0ubuntu2 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Hibernate should be disabled system-wide when no swap space exists.

I have a hibernate button on the shut down menu and my machine supports
hibernation, but when I press the button I get a response as if the
machine would suspend and the screen blanks for a moment, but then
returns as quickly as it went away, with no warning as to what happend
or what failed. I know that I cannot hibernate because I did not
allocate a swap file on the install.

In addition, during the install when opting to proceed with no swap, it
should be noted in the existing alert that hibernate will be disable,
and it should be disabled, please advise where I should post that as its
own bug/suggestion.

[Bug 304477] Re: Ctrl-L is a poor keybinding for "Clear"

In Pidgin, the Ctrl+L shortcut is even worse, because the same
keybinding can also bring up the log window if the buddy list is active.
So the same keybinding either views the logs or nukes them, depending on
window focus within a single application. Not good.

[Bug 412455] Re: shut down xsplash when session is ready

2009-08-25 Thread Robert Ancell
I am confused about what this bug is about. It was originally reported as
adding a method for xsplash to uncurtain if gnome-panel/nautilus take too long
to load. This needs to be implemented in xsplash.
It seems to be changed to "the session is not sending the loaded signals".
These signals were implemented in the sprint and work afaik.
What is required here?

[Bug 418918] [NEW] Stretching icons on Desktop

2009-08-25 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When u strecth an icon on the desktop and then move it to a folder (i
tried it with a png image that i saved on my desktop) it stays stetched
on the folder, now it may be useful to have this feauture not only in
the desktop but in any other folder in nautilus too, but it doesn, i
order to restore the icon original size u have to move it back to the
desktop resize and then move it back to the desired folder

if someone want to recreate this, what i did was saving the launchpad logo at
the top of the page to the desktop then stretched it and move it to a folder in
the desktop (i used drag and drop)
im using jaunty.

i dont know if this should be taken as a bug, cause its actually a bug,
but it is a feauture request too...maybe it would be cool to have the
stretching option in all the folders.

2009-08-25 Thread Aleve Sicofante
>>This functionality will not be implemented in HAL
>>
>>Changed in hal (Ubuntu):
>>status: Confirmed → Won't Fix

May I ask what does this mean exactly? That this is not HAL related or
that someone with enough power to say so decided this bug will not be
fixed ever?

Thanks for any explanation.

[Bug 95853] Re: Add an option to get a confirmation dialog before deleting files in Nautilus

2009-08-25 Thread David Siegel
aljos, I see a proposal to add an option, which would not affect the
default experience of Ubuntu unless that option were activated. I see no
user data showing that a confirmation dialog before moving to trash
would improve user experience. I don't doubt that it would, but we can't
make large (it terms of exposure to users) changes like this ad hoc. The
Trash feature itself is a form of confirmation. Please don't be
dumfounded -- if you think this is a paper cut, prove me wrong. Do some
user testing, report your findings, and summarize the change. If the
change is to show a confirmation dialog, specify what it should say,
what buttons should it have?

The conversation is already going on upstream, so I don't see the
advantage of having the same discussion in parallel here.

[Bug 418806] Re: [users-admin] Unlock button greyed out as admin

2009-08-25 Thread El Toozero
Thank you, update-manager gui was reporting an update to update-manager-
core and would not apply it, leading me to falsely believe that my
system was fully up to date.

After running apt-get upgrade and resolving packages incorrectly "held
back" via the command line, I was able to fully update and I now see the
nifty new button with the keys on it, and it works.

I guess invalid is the best status, thank you again.

[Bug 303029] Re: Initialize Layer Mask to: Channel drop-down box is grayed out.

2009-08-25 Thread Andrew
Four channels are listed in the Channels dialog: Red, Green, Blue, and
Alpha. I would like to initialize a layer mask to the Red channel. Even
when layer is the same size as the entire image, no channels are listed
in the drop-down box.

If I make a saved selection, it is listed in the drop-down box, but the
other four channels still are not.

Gimp 2.6.6-0ubuntu1

Oh, and please report the "you are not allowed to access the system

killall polkitd && sudo /usr/libexec/polkitd', then run time-admin, and
attach the logs. Thanks!

[Bug 406211] Re: time-admin crashed with SIGSEGV in strcmp()

2009-08-25 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
OK, the crash was also fairly simple: the time zones list was not
created, thus we were trying to access invalid zone names. I've added
the list back, and that fixed the crash.

This is now committed to our development branch, but I guess you'll have
to wait for 2.27.92 to be released, which will happen before September
7th. Please then confirm, and thanks for your attention!

[Bug 368611] Re: by pushing a key/entering a string, nautilus does not focus the fitting folder/file

2009-08-25 Thread Toscho
the issue is easily triggered:
1. open nautilus (by personal default in list view, see attachment)
2. hit any "letter" key (or alternatively click on any list entry and then hit
any "letter" key)
3. nothing happens (especially no focus on the entry beginning with the letter
hit)
