[Bug 11334] Re: MASTER Copy-Paste doesn't work if the source is closed before the paste
Olaf wrote 6 hours ago: I also find this bug annoying - but it is not of the highest priority IMHO - especially as a workaround has been available for years: glipper/klipper. I've said this many times: Glipper is not a solution and not even a good workaround. Glipper is unstable, 1 in 10 times when starting the system, Glipper doesn't start and Glipper only supports text. Copy an in image in Firefox (for example the Launchpad logo), close Firefox, start The GIMP, try to paste the image... impossible, even when using Glipper. Olaf wrote 6 hours ago: I would very much like to see this bug fixed, but installing k/glipper or keeping the source app open while you copy/paste is not terribly difficult. Some day a GSoC project or somebody from IBM/et al will fix it. As I said, Glipper isn't a solution nor a good workaround. True, keeping the source opened is the best workaround and I do this, but everytime I have to remember to not close the source before pasting. This is just so 1980's. It's completely ridiculous we have to keep the source opened in the year 2009!!! You can't expect new users to know they've to keep the source open to be able to paste. New users will everytime loose their work, because they don't understand what's going on under the hood. Ubuntu never says: You've copied something, so you've got the keep the source open to be able to paste it somewhere else. Closing this window will loose the contents of the clipboard. How does a new user know he has to keep the source open. He always closed the source and then pasted the contents of the clipboard somewhere else when he was using Windows. This is the way a clipboard should work! Keeping the source open is completely ridiculous! We're living in the year 2009, not in the 1980's. People are used to the way copy/paste works on Windows (which is the only good way to implement copy/paste) and when using Linux they have no clue what's going on. They keep on loosing their work and they haven't got a single clue they have to keep the source open. When I started using Linux, I've lost my work so many times and people are still losing their work, every day. Therfore this bug has to be marked as a bug of the HIGHEST PRIORITY, not as wishlist. [Bug 421527] Re: unable to log into gnome after karmic update
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a bug in gdm. When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. [Bug 422012] [NEW] Protected files hidden by Trash
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus When moving files to the Trash which are belong to another user and you don't have access to, nautilus moves the files into a folder ~/.local/share/Trash/expunged. The problem is that there is no warning that this is happening and the location of the files is far from obvious. I only discovered the folder by using disk analyser and finding that there was a massive folder in ~/.local/share/Trash/expunged. It transpired after deleting the offending files that there had been some 70Gb worth of files!!! Would it not make far more sense from a function point of view to move the files into the Trash as per normal but just fail to empty them? Re: [Bug 354721] Re: system-tools-backends causes dbus error if there's no admin group
I installed a minimal ubuntu, using debootstrap, and I have neither 'admin' group nor sudo. I created a real password for 'root', and everything works perfectly. I don't see why you want to resist creating this security check: if you already have 'admin' group, it will do nothing, while on stripped systems like mine it is a fix. On Mon, Aug 31, 2009 at 10:21 AM, Milan Bouchet-Valatnalimi...@club.fr wrote: How could the 'admin' group not exist? To me, it's required so that even sudo works, so it's not something you should go without. How do you configure your system? Debian creates the group in their postinst script because they use a specific 'stb-admin' group, but we use our global admin group, so that should not be necessary. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. [Bug 99276] Re: User and Groups does not inform user that manual UID already exists and create user groups.
I've just fixed this problem upstream by checking that an UID free before creating the user. If that's not the case, a dialog is shown. This will sadly not be available in GNOME 2.28 because this would imply modifying strings, and that's too late for that. The bug described in the last comment can be fixed separately and could go into 2.28 if I find how to fix it. -- User and Groups does not inform user that manual UID already exists and create user groups. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/99276 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

AmenophisIII: Actually, I can't find how the problem you describe can appear, since the tool should always choose a free UID by default. [Bug 328575] Re: [gnome-terminal SRU] Cannot start gnome-terminal (or x-terminal-emulator) because of gconf error
I'm not sure if this is important or not, but thought I'd add just in case... I just discovered the problem in Ubuntu Jaunty running Root Terminal, something I rarely do. I installed the jaunty-proposed package as described by Martin, and at first, it gave me a blank screen. Then, I noticed that if I resized the window, it would redraw and be OK. This only happens with the root terminal, run gksu; it seems as if using sudo from a terminal works OK, and using gksu from a terminal sometimes worked, I believe (when it didn't re-prompt for the password). But, I remembered I had tried out a Window Rule using a Compiz Window Management plugin that resized gnome terminal windows. After disabling this rule, the Gnome terminal worked normally at all times. -- [gnome-terminal SRU] Cannot start gnome-terminal (or x-terminal-emulator) because of gconf error https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/328575 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 421672] Re: Number of files getting copied displayed wrong
The number of files being moved counts down, so if you look at a slightly odd time, you might see less files than you'd expect (especially if the files are of vastly different sizes; e.g. if you move a 1GB file and a couple of 10k files, you might simply see Moving 1 file, as the other two files have already been moved successfully). If we started the move with the wrong count, this would be a bug, but in this case, it's behaving correctly. ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- Number of files getting copied displayed wrong https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/421672 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
