2009-09-18 Thread Sebastien Bacher
the documentation for ubuntu bug triaging describe

Low: Bugs which affect functionality, but to a lesser extent than most
bugs, examples are:

* Ones that can be easily worked around
* Ones that affect unusual configurations or uncommon hardware
* A bug that has a moderate impact on a non-core application
* A cosmetic/usability issue that does not limit the functionality of an
application

the settings seem adapted there, normal users don't know what at vt is
and will not never switch to a specific one but use the ui user
switching features rather

[Bug 432202] Re: apports starts - i don't know why

2009-09-18 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 328980] Re: xkbcomp errors should be displayed

2009-09-18 Thread Martin von Gagern
So you say that an error message containing some technical information
is worse than one with almost no information at all? I'm sure I disagree
for myself, as I find an error message like 'No Symbols named
mac_nodeadkeys in the include file macintosh_vndr/de' (from bug
#327963) to be both understandable and useful, and to be a good
description of the cause of the error, not a mere technical detail.
But I have to concede that I'm no average user, and my ideas of how they
would react to such a message might be completely wrong.

Of course, I agree that it would be even better if such error messages
would not occur in the first place, and bug #327963 is aiming at
avoiding the error message I just quoted. That might not be the only
possible error, though.

Same problem on my Sony Vaio since Ubuntu Karmic Koala Alpha4.
Impossible to add stickynotes to the panel. Would be nice to get it back

[Bug 183213] Re: Unable to use XIM when screen is locked (xscreensaver)

2009-09-18 Thread Emmet Hikory
I'm unsure if this is also the case with XIM, but when using SCIM this
bug is caused because SCIM discards synthetic XEvents
(scim/extras/gtk2_immodule/gtkimcontextscim.cpp:981), and gnome-
screensaver uses XEmbed to display the password and message dialogs,
passing received XEvents with XSendEvent(). A similar issue was
discovered using chromium with scim
(http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=19926), for which a
patch to scim was developed. I'm also unsure if that patch is
appropriate generally (consider the many cases where XSendEvent() could
be used to compromise system security if it was accepted by the IME), or
if a similar approach would address the issue for XIM.

If someone more familiar with XIM could confirm that this applies in
that case, or if those experiencing the bug are willing to switch from
XIM to SCIM, it may be appropriate to change the affected package for
this bug to one of gtk+2.0 (the provider of the XIM GTK IMMODULE), scim
(if use of SCIM rather than XIM is an acceptable resolution of this
issue), or some other XIM related package (I'm not sufficiently familiar
with XIM to be sure where such code may exist).

[Bug 204567] Re: Downloads should go to ~/Downloads

2009-09-18 Thread Conn
Sebastien,

Yes, it's worth breaking from upstream.

Using the singular Download is inconsistent. The only singular entries
are Home Folder and Desktop, because they represent a singular
entity.

The rest of the xdg-user-dirs folders are named Documents, Music,
Pictures and Videos, which are pluralized. We should keep things
consistent, i.e. change Download to Downloads, or else change the rest
to Document, Music, Picture and Video. It seems pretty obvious that the
latter is not appropriate.

Also, it seems that on a fresh install of Alpha 6, the Download folder
is placed at the bottom of the bookmarks list in Places; all folders
should be sorted alphabetically descending (with exception to Home
Folder, and possibly also Desktop).

Therefore I would suggest that Fix Released against the xdg-user-dirs
task is not accurate.

[Bug 429277] Re: left-handed mouse no longer working

2009-09-18 Thread Chris Coulson
The upload fixed a very specific issue with gnome-settings-daemon, where
the left-handed settings were being applied to the core pointer and
extension pointer, which caused the setting to be cancelled out. That
issue is fixed now (the settings are not applied to the core pointer),
so if there are outstanding issues with the settings reverting back to
right-handed, then that is a new problem.

[Bug 419188] Re: gpg-groups not usable with Seahorse

2009-09-18 Thread Mark Preetorius
* Is this reproducible?
yes

* If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?
0. It is not possible to create PGP-Groups with Seahorse.
1. add a group of keys to the gpg.conf manually:
group mygroupname = 0xABCD9DB0 0xABCD9540 0xABCD7767
2. Try to use it with seahorse - no groups show up in the list of keys, e.g.
in the encrypt-dialog.

* What ubuntu version do you use?

3. ) When copying a DVD to an iso over an existing disc it asks once if
i'm sure I wish to overwrite the existing file, after confirming this it
spins up the disc and then gives an error about the file already
existing at which point you're returned to the New Project screen. As
an aside, after going to manually remove the ISO file to continue I
found that it had been deleted (possibly by brasero).

[Bug 406211] Re: time-admin crashed with SIGSEGV in strcmp()

2009-09-18 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
TeutonJon78: yeah, nobody said the contrary. This is because version
2.27.92 has not been uploaded to Karmic yet.

Tomasz: please don't report completely different problems on an existing
report. If you think you experience a bug, please report it separately.
Else, you can get help in the forums.
