[Bug 434475] [NEW] Samsung YP-K3 Media player device error

2009-09-21 Thread vince
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Rhythmbox opens the library on my player only if I plug it in while the
software is already running; If Rhythmbox is not running, it starts when I plug
the player in, but no MTP library is shown.
Furthermore, if I try to add music to the device, after uploading a few songs,
there's a message saying:
PTP Layer error 02fc: get_first_storage_freespace(): could not get storage info.

Ubuntu 9.04
Rhythmbox 0.12.0

Thank you

[Bug 426724] Re: login-screen has no user-pictures with encrypted home directories

2009-09-21 Thread Martin Pitt
gdm (2.28.0-0ubuntu1) karmic; urgency=low

  * New upstream release (LP: #434354)
- Now GDM supports the ability to specify the automatic/timed login user via
a script via the same interface that the old GDM supported.
- Now the user's dmrc and face image files are stored in /var/cache/gdm, so
that the login process does not need to access the user's $HOME directory
  before authentication.
- Fix the login GUI options widget so the language/session/layout choices
are not reset after a failed login.
- Fix language dialog so it does not crash if the user click's the "OK"
button when no language is selected.
- Fix to ensure that the login dialog regains focus after the language or
  layout dialogs are used.
- The language dialog has improved logic to sort the language names more
  correctly.
- Make sure to check error variable is not NULL before referencing it in the
  gdm-user-manager code.
- Make sure to not print NULL strings since this causes crashes on some
  platforms.
- Improve documentation.
  * debian/patches/09_gdmsetup.patch: updated:
- Filter ConsoleKit system users (LP: #432271)
- Make window size fixed (LP: #429206)
  * debian/patches/01_default_keyboard_layout_hal.patch,
debian/patches/99_autoreconf.patch: updated.

[Bug 432743] Re: New desktop users get just white screen on login (with mouse pointer moving)

2009-09-21 Thread Oh01
Thanks Travis Watkins, if I use Options >Select Session > Failsafe
GNOME, I can log in as the new user. When I do this, though, System
>Preferences >Appearance > Visual Effects tab is already set to None.
How can I make it "stick" for regular "GNOME" or "Run Xclient script"
sessions? Is there a file that stores the Visual Effects settings from
session to session?

Otherwise, I have to keep selecting Failsafe GNOME at log in time, as
it does not seem to remember it as the default.

[Bug 423873] Re: screen brightness flickers at login screen

2009-09-21 Thread Justin Gruenberg
This is happening to me, and only started when upgrading to Karmic Alpha
5 (ie, maybe related to the switch to the new version of gdm?).

With the most recent updates, this only appears to happen at the login
screen, and not at the new loading screens (with the progress bar, that
changed from Alpha 5 to Alpha 6). While at the login screen, the osd
displays the brightness value when it is cycling.

I have the MSI Wind u123, which appears to be the same configuration as
the U100 with the Atom N280 instead of the N270. Both have the Intel
945GSE + ICH7-M chipset and GMA950 for graphics.

[Bug 433103] Re: Highlight of matching bracket distorts image using gtk+ client-side-windows.

2009-09-21 Thread Daniel Serpell
I discovered that the bug is caused by the "class browser" plugin from
http://www.stambouliote.de/projects/gedit_plugins.html , I forgot that
had it installed and enabled.

So, to reproduce, download
http://www.stambouliote.de/download/gedit_classbrowser-0.2.1.tar.gz ,
activate the plugin and use the test file.

Do you think that is ok to forward this as a gedit bug upstream, or
simply close it?

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/413168

I am also having this problem, on a fresh Karmic alpha 6 install,
desktop system with Nvidia 9600GT card. I have 2 monitors in a Twinview
configuration.

screens will blank, but never sleep.

'xset dpms force off' does not cause the monitors to sleep, they just
blank (this command doesnt work in my jaunty installation either, but
dpms sleep is working on that).

'xset dpms 0 0 60' does cause the monitors to go to sleep.

also noticed that grub2 broke dpms on my jaunty installation.

[Bug 430981] Re: keybindings not remembered on reboot

2009-09-21 Thread Travis Watkins
With help from Longinus00 on IRC I have figured out what is happening
here and why the workaround actually works.

The problem is the gconf plugin is getting loaded via command line. As
of the first compiz 0.8.3 packages plugins loaded from command line
cannot be disabled, ever. Since something is adding gconf to the command
line and ccp is already there the two plugins fight and they both lose,
neither one gets to save your settings. But what is adding gconf to the
command line?

If you have every switched WMs in older versions of Ubuntu the key
/desktop/gnome/session/required_components/windowmanager will still be
set to "gnome-wm" since we can't change keys for users. gnome-wm does
start compiz with gconf and thus we get this bug. This is why switching
to metacity and back to compiz via Appearance Properties fixes the
problem, it sets this key to "compiz" as it should be.

gnome-wm seems to have some code that is supposed to detect this case
and update the key for you but for whatever reason it is obviously not
working. Moving bug to gnome-session package since that is where gnome-
wm is located.

Karmic)

[Bug 430981] [NEW] keybindings not remembered on reboot

2009-09-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hi, after recent upgrades, changes to the keybindings in compiz or in
System>Preferences>Keyboard Shortcuts are not remembered anymore after
logging in.

I tried adding a shortcut key to open a terminal, and it works fine, but
I expect it to be saved after I reboot, as it used to be. Now, upon
reboot, the keyboard shortcut no longer works.

Same problem with CCSM; changing keybindings for Ring Switcher doesn't
last after reboot.

Using Karmic AMD 64 with latest updates this morning.

[Bug 349312] Re: Evolution 2.26 does not support import of outlook .pst

2009-09-21 Thread TeutonJon78
I tried to compile the 0.6.44 and 0.6.43 versions. Both fail during the
"./configure" stage with some problems with the python libraries. So, I
tried, but didn't succeed. I also installed the python2.6-dev and this
didn't seem to help anything.

[Bug 433700] Re: Update to 2.27.92

2009-09-21 Thread Chris Coulson
Right, I've updated the branch now with the fixed dependency.

Milan - I'm not too sure about the string either. Perhaps something like
"User must log out before you can change their user ID" or "Cannot
change user ID whilst the user is logged in". In any case, the new
string would probably need approval by the release team, and seeing as
it is not fully translated yet, I thought it might be better if it was
just commented out for the time being. This doesn't mean we can't show
it later on. The string will still get imported in to Rosetta as I have
not removed it from the UI file, so it may still get translated by the
translation teams anyway.

[Bug 349312] Re: Evolution 2.26 does not support import of outlook .pst

2009-09-21 Thread Noel J. Bergman
@Sebastian, I know how Open Source works, and I wasn't personally
addressing you. I do feel that there ought to be a higher priority,
generally, with respect to migrating users from Outlook, the remaining
piece of Office that keeps many users captive to Microsoft. I've had
this discussion with folks from Sun in the past, too, who said that they
had 20,000 reasons to see it happen.

Personally, I have about 10GB of data in an XP VM (for Outlook 2K) to
migrate.

> there is command lines tools doing the job as a workaround for those
who really need to do that ...

Which command line tool(s) to use to migrate 10GB of mail, contacts and
calendar? Mind you, if I wanted to use a usine à gaz approach, I could
have done that by now. :-)

> ... until the change lands

I may try using Fedora to do the migration, and then copy the files over
to my Ubuntu environment, and see whether Evolution will support putting
the data on a volume.

> I would be happy to sponsor a libpst update if anybody manage to get
it to build though

What needs to be done?

monitors.xml attached. Note that the contents of this file are largely
not my doing, and now that I know this is there, I'll probably nuke most
of it since it doesn't work the way I want it to in any case. :-)

I think to reproduce this bug, I have to have plugged in my external
monitor during the current session, so the log output will have to wait
until I'm back to my desk.

[Bug 434001] Re: password widget focusing not consistent

2009-09-21 Thread Paul Sladen
1. Install Ubuntu on a computer
2. Boot it up
3. Click on the default username
4. Enter password (password does not appear because widget is not focused)

1. Install Ubuntu on a computer
2. Boot it up
3. Click on the default username
4. Click on password textbox really quickly
5. Enter password really quickly (password half appears as '*' asterisks, and
then stops as focus is moved back to user widget)

[Bug 434338] [NEW] gdm 'shutdown' button == UI disaster

2009-09-21 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

When booting to gdm, I'm presented with a login screen that includes:

 - a list of users, where the first user is highlighted
 - a 'shutdown' button in the lower right-hand corner of the dialog.

If I *click* on the already-highlighted username, the dialog morphs and
gives me instead a login button *in approximately the same location as
the previous shutdown button*. This inconsistency is a *very* bad
thing, and has caused me to inadvertently reboot my system on login
numerous times since the new gdm greeter has landed in karmic.

The lower-right-hand corner of the dialog is almost always the location
of the button for the "default" action, and I'm very strongly
conditioned to expect this. Having "shutdown" as a default action is
not reasonable.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: amd64
Date: Mon Sep 21 16:19:43 2009
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10
Package: gdm 2.27.90-0ubuntu7
ProcEnviron:
 PATH=(custom, user)
 LANG=en_US.UTF-8
 SHELL=/bin/bash
ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.31-10.34-generic
SourcePackage: gdm
Uname: Linux 2.6.31-10-generic x86_64

** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu)
 Importance: High
