[Bug 439818] [NEW] [Kamic] epiphany-gecko can't be installed

2009-09-30 Thread Taylor "Ripps" L-Wren
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

Now that epiphany-browser is pushing epiphany-webkit, epiphany-gecko has been
left broken.
Epiphany-gecko can't be installed because it depends on epiphany-browser-data,
which now supports the 2.27 webkit version. Epiphany-gecko should be able to be
installed along with a number of other packages, such as epiphany-gecko-data,
epiphany-gecko-extensions, and epiphany-gecko-extensions-more. This is
especially important because a number of features in epiphany-webit, such as
autoscroll, aren't complete or working yet.

[Bug 112948] Re: Ekiga hangs when using pulseaudio

2009-09-30 Thread sweetsinse
im running karmic all updates as of ten minutes ago...

the only way i have been able to get ekiga to work (echo test) is to
kill pulseaudio before starting it. "pasuspender -- ekiga" doesnt do
the trick. other gnome apps work fine like sound-
recorder/banshee/flash/etc.

additionally, i receive these symptoms:
http://osdir.com/ml/debian-bugs-dist/2009-09/msg09233.html

when pulseaudio is running, many operations within ekiga after
connecting to a call result in the program hanging and consuming 100%
CPU even just trying to open the preferences.

Kudos to epiphany-2.27 being the only linux webkit browser with some form of

[Bug 439775] [NEW] Session Preferences dialog missing, or maybe renamed and regressed

2009-09-30 Thread jimav
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

The "Sessions Preferences" dialog is missing from the
System->Preferences menu.

NOTE: The Sessions Preferences dialog is documented under System->Help and
Support. I can't tell you how to directly bring up that documentation (the
Search feature produces generally unhelpful results...)
But the following sequence finds the documentation on my system:
  System->Help and Support
  Click "Customizing Your Computer" in the Topics column on the left.
  Click "4. Customising other aspects of the desktop"
  Click "Configuring Your Desktop" in topic list on the right
  Click "8.5.2 Sessions Preferences"
  Control-F and search for "confirmation dialog" on the page

There is no "Sessions" dialog under System->Preferences.
There is a preferences dialog called "Startup Applications" but it does not
contain
the "Session Options" listed in table 8-17 except for "Automatically save
changes".

Note: In ubuntu 9.04 you could disable logout confirmation (and the time
delay) in a Preferenced panel reached by right-clicking the
logout/reboot thingie on the right end of the panel. But in 9.10 there
is no Preferences offered there.

SUMMARY: No way to control logout confirmation or delays!

[Bug 422511] Re: problem with new scrollbar in Human theme - GtkRange::trough-border set to 2

2009-09-30 Thread Nikola Kovacs
I decided to try out my idea from comment #3. This is patch uses a hardcoded
value of 2, but that can easily be made configurable, as a murrine specific
option. With GtkRange::slider-width set to 18, it gives the same effect for the
scrollbars, with none of the bugs.
Yes, it's a hack, but it works, and it's better than using a pixmap engine just
for the scrollbars (like Dust does).

[Bug 422511] Re: problem with new scrollbar in Human theme - GtkRange::trough-border set to 2

2009-09-30 Thread Nikola Kovacs
I think this is a nicer solution than my previous patch. I removed
trough-border from calculations for the slider rectangle (which is used
for mouse detection) and instead add/subtract the correct values when
drawing the slider.

For Firefox, I wanted to do something similar, modifying
moz_gtk_scrollbar_thumb_paint() to draw a smaller slider, but otherwise
using 0 for trough_border. I'm having problems implementing the latter,
because even if I explicitly set metrics->trough_border to 0 in
moz_gtk_get_scrollbar_metrics(), I can't see any difference.

[Bug 372132] Re: "Create Document" Templates difficult to use

2009-09-30 Thread Gorka Navarrete
Being true that one size doesn't fit all, one size does fit a majority
of people.

A small number of most common filetypes will fit most users. At least
the non-experts. If you know that a template folder exists and what it
is for, probably you will personalize it anyway.

This bug refers to a problem non-experts do have. Let's fix it. Even the
temporary solution we are talking about is better than nothing.
Afterwards, let's improve it.

[Bug 376145] Re: gvfs-gdu-volume-monitor crashed with SIGSEGV in gdu_pool_get_presentables()

2009-09-30 Thread James Westby
I've been looking at what we think is the cause of this and other bugs tonight
with Chris.

I've been using gdu-notification-daemon, but we think it is the same root cause,
a timeout on the GetAll call in the gnome-disk-utility code.

Based on Chris' idea we added sleep(5) call to devicekit-disks-daemon as the
first thing it does. This makes the issue more reproducible. Given that at
startup
the system is loaded it makes sense that longer time to execute causes the
issue.

This sleep is under the 25 seconds timeout that the activation has (different
to the call timeout), so that's not likely to be kicking in (barring accounting
bugs), and even if it does it should give an error response, not cause a call
timeout client-side.

This reliably gives a client-side timeout with the default timeout. We tweaked
that timeout to see what happens.

  * On my machine it is around a 20.15 second timeout that you get the switch.
Less than this and it times out, more and it works.
  * The time taken to get the timeout error, and the time taken to get the call
 return are ~about equal at 5.something seconds, nowhere near the actual
 timeout specified.
  * Reducing the sleep to 3 seconds doesn't have a linear effect on the issue.
You have to reduce the timeout by a lot more than 2 seconds to see the
failures
there. I haven't investigated this relationship further or looked for
discontinuities.

My current suspicion is that this is a D-Bus bug. Some sort of error means that
when it gets the real response it instead returns the timeout response when the
specified timeout is less than some threshold. I'm not sure why there seems to
be a relationship between that threshold and the amount of time that it takes to
start the service though.

Please bear in mind that this is just my blind pokings, and that nothing I say
should be taken as fact. It may well be that this is the wrong tree to be
barking
up in some way.

Thanks,

James

[Bug 432743] Re: New desktop users get just white screen on login (with mouse pointer moving)

2009-09-30 Thread Travis Watkins
Hmm, gnome-session back in hardy handles this differently. If you open
up gconf-editor and do a search in key values (Edit->Find) you should
find a key under /desktop/gnome/session/ that you can change to metacity
to change the default.

[Bug 438789] Re: package gdm 2.28.0-0ubuntu8 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2009-09-30 Thread Daniel Newman
Same bug in my case, but different solution.

The bug appeared when I used "su root" in a terminal, then tried the
upgrade using apt-get, synaptic, or dpkg.

However, when I used "sudo dpkg" etc from a user terminal, the
installation finished correctly. I didn't need to make any changes to
/var/lib/gdm.

[Bug 377246] Re: sync with google calendar loose alarm notification

2009-09-30 Thread rg
reported here:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=596929

However, note that I have reported a more specific problem than those
discussed here. As long as I add the Google calendar as webDav, alarm
SETTINGS are actually syncing fine for me, in both directions (e.g.
create event on google, set alarms, wait for sync, edit event on evo and
see the same alarm settings). BUT the alarm never actually goes off
locally. So that's what I've reported upstream.

I gave the reference of the bug I found (Gnome bug #510097). Then I
got confused: the bug is filed against conduit but its description is
"Google calendar to evolution misses appointments" which is correct.
Does Evolution use conduit to sync with Google Calendar? If so, that
is the same problem that I had. If not, I suppose I should file
another bug elsewhere.

[Bug 403263] [NEW] Acer brightness issue

2009-09-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hello everyone.

This is what I'm experiencing:

- If brightnes = 0:
1. I press "Fn + >" and brightness increase one step;
2. Press "Fn + >" again and another step is increased;
3. Press "Fn + >" again, but this time 2 steps are increased;
4. "Fn + >" increases another 2 steps;
5. "Fn + >" increases another 2 steps;
6. "Fn + >" increases another 1 step and maximum brightness is reached;

- If brightness = 10:
Same situation happens, but backwards.

- If increasing but decreasing before reach 10:
1. I press "Fn + >" and brightness increase one or two steps;
2. Press "Fn + <" and brightness decrease one step, as expected, BUT brightness
notification popup shows that the brightness is increasing;
This also happens backwards.

I have Karmic with ALL updates installed (until now) and I'm running on
latest kernel. My laptop is an Acer 5315-2940.

Is there any other information that I can provide to help to get this
fixed?

[Bug 433360] Re: multiple workspaces not shown in workspace switcher

2009-09-30 Thread Cameron Matheson
The pager does work as expected when using metacity. The interesting
thing is that it (the workspace switcher) is overriding my openbox
configuration's default number of workspaces (3) so that I only get one
upon initial login. After adding more workspaces with openbox,
workspace switcher still doesn't show the additional workspaces (the
windows on the visible workspace in the pager do change when switching
workspaces with openbox though). Has the free desktop virtual desktop
stuff changed and maybe openbox is behind the times? I wonder what
window manager Michael is using.
