[Bug 444300] [NEW] gThumb doesn't import images

2009-10-05 Thread 1Earth
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gthumb

Default install, I select File -> Import. It accesses the SD card and
successfully displays the content. But when clicking the import button
it stays indented, but after waiting for a long time it doesn't import
anything.

There is no difference between selecting all the photos and selecting
none.

Description:Ubuntu karmic (development branch)
Release:9.10

gthumb:
  Installed: 3:2.10.11-1ubuntu1
  Candidate: 3:2.10.11-1ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 3:2.10.11-1ubuntu1 0
500 http://my.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I expected it to import my photos like it had in Ubuntu 9.04.

Instead, the import button stayed indented and nothing happened.

[Bug 425952] Re: gdm requiring password for guest session

2009-10-05 Thread Robert Ancell
In summary, I think there are three problems here:
1. The guest session does not having locking disabled (see above)
(gdm-guest-session)
2. GDM prompts for a password when changing selecting the guest account in the
greeter (gdm)
3. Attempting to open a second guest session from the indicator applet locks
that users screen and fails to open the session. It should switch to the
already opened session. (gdm / indicator-applet)

[Bug 444282] [NEW] baobab should be aware of ecryptfs private directories

2009-10-05 Thread Ingolemo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-utils

When using private directories, Baobab creates separate entries for the
true filesystem (in ~/.Private) and the virtual filesystem (in
~/Private). The problem is more visible with a large ratio of files in
private compared to out of it. At the least, one of these directories
should be hidden.

[Bug 440382] Re: evince crashes immediately after loading a document

2009-10-05 Thread Dananjaya
OK this is the backtrace log I generated using the method that you
described. but this time when I run evince through gdb it doesn't crash
immediately. the program just getting non responsive. the only thing I
can do is force quit it. but I performed the steps you've mentioned
anyway and as soon as I type 't a a bt f' at the gdb prompt, evince
quits.

Here are some lines that for some reason not included in the backtrace log I
find suspicious. (These lines appear in my terminal, I'm copy pasting this from
there)
--
(gdb) r

According to this, the program has received SIGABRT , Which I can't figure out
received from where.
also I've renamed the pdf file which I have problems viewing and opened it
using evince but the result was same. it quits immediately.

[Bug 427063] Re: Suggestion: Indentation for Programming

2009-10-05 Thread ichhaankur
I see.

I found it now. Do you think there is a way of making that obvious to
the user?

What about-
when gedit finds somebody writing codes (it automatically detects the lanugage
already, right?) it suggests in a baloon that says-

"Related plugins are available."

The user could choose between-
1. Yes, show me. (Goes to browser with the url which lists plugins related to X

2. No, not now. (Next time when the user writes the same language, the baloon
pops up.)
3. I don't want to know/I already know. (Gedit shuts up. :) )

Kinda like the way firefox asks users if he/she wants to save the password?

[Bug 403677] Re: gstreamer-properties reports incorrect resolution

2009-10-05 Thread Lawrence Bezeau
Where in the world is Pedro Villavicencio? If the test I performed more than

then what does it take to complete it? It seems that the solution may be
known but has not been ported back to version 8.04. Is 8.04 really a long
term support version and, if so, when will the support be forthcoming?

During installation, a debconf dialog popped up and asked me to choose

I selected them all, only to be informed that I need to select at least
one. This time I de-selected them all, and tried to go 'forward'; same
problem. In no combination of selections, could I go forward (there were
5).

I kill the debconf process (kill -15) and it caused my entire system to
commence a shutdown sequence. And then the crash dialog came up when I
logged back in.

[Bug 236740] [NEW] ACPI lid switch support on a Thinkpad T61 problem

2009-10-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have a T61 with Ubuntu 8.04.
I use an external monitor connected to the VGA output. I turn the laptop
monitor off using the xrandr command. My screensaver kicks in after 5 mins and
the screen(s) turn off after 15 mins.
If I close the laptop lid both screens will turn off. I would like the external
VGA to stay on and close the laptop lid.
I went to System->Preferences->Power Management->On AC Power->Actions and set
the"When laptop lid is closed" option to "Do nothing".
That fixed half the problem. Now if I close the lid the external monitor stays
on.
But the screensaver will dimm the monitor off but will never display the
screensaver. If at that moment I open the lid the screensaver will start
showing on the VGA, and if I close the lid it goes back to black.
The monitor will never shutdown or go to standby mode.
The fact that I turn the laptop LCD of with xrandr makes no difference.
It seems like the option to do nothing when closing the lid is not consistent
too all processes that depend on it.

[Bug 393008] Re: [Karmic] power management icon says laptop is connected to power when it isn't

2009-10-05 Thread AppleBonker
I am also having the same problem on an HP dv-3500 series laptop. It
doesn't appear that acpi is correctly determining the status. I am
seeing the same thing as Scott:

$ acpi -ab

[Bug 444197] [NEW] gnome-netstatus applet doesnt display signal strength

2009-10-05 Thread Nastrafireblaze
Public bug reported:

The gnome-netstatus version 2.26.0 included in Ubuntu Alpha Karmic 6 and
even the version 2.28.0 from the Debian Sid (unstable) do not have the
wireless signal bar that was available in 2.12 in Ubuntu Intrepid (and
its predecessors). This is especially bad since the default
NetworkManager Applet reports the wrong signal strength since my
inception to Ubuntu (and even so worse in Alpha Karmic 6)

Public bug reported:

Just booted into karmic using a netbook. I like the panels to be the

[Bug 444165] [NEW] Startup Applications (gnome-session-properties) does not efficiently remember running applications

2009-10-05 Thread komputes
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-session

Startup Applications Bug

Steps to reproduce
1. Open every application
2. Open every preference utility
3. Open every administration utility
4. Open Startup Applications (gnome-session-properties)
5. In the Options tab check "automatically remember running applications" and
click "automatically remember running applications"
6. shutdown/restart/logout+login

Result: Not all applications were remembered
Expected result: all applications should be remembered. The perfect solution
would be to display the newly added applications, or show you your current
session and allow the user to check each box you want to start up with the
session.

RE: [Bug 370535] Re: won't open tar.gz in 9.04

2009-10-05 Thread frankwakeman

It transpires that the problem is to do with the mobile broadband that many of
us now use. Its compression methods are what mangled the files, though I have
now moved from Vodafone ot T-mobile with none of the symptoms.

You can close the bug I filed. Thanks.

Chris, you're right. The correct steps to reproduce the bug are:
# adduser foobar
# usermod -G adm,disk,dialout,cdrom,plugdev,lpadmin,admin,sambashare,mythtv -a
foobar
Eventually you need to remove some of these groups on your system.

Michał, can you post the output you get when running "groups" in a
terminal?

[Bug 336805] Dear friend!

2009-10-05 Thread Andrea Cimitan
Hi,
I bought a TV last week from a website:www.hkeles.com. I have
received the product. The quality is very good. They also sell
phones, motor, psp and so on. Because of the financial crisis, their
products are very cheap. by the way, they only sell new and original
products .If you need these products, you can have a look . I think
you will get many benefits.
Greetings!

2009-10-05 Thread anagor

In my case the icons are drawn, albeit wrong ones, yet they aren't functional
at all.
In any case, I haven't seen this happen on my laptop in the last few days, and
I do restart or log off and on quite a lot during the day...
So if the bug won't reappear over the course of the next few days, I will
updates it's status here and on gnome as invalid or not reproducible. I will
keep you posted :)

[Bug 444067] Re: Strange GConf Error breaks GUI after update to karmic

2009-10-05 Thread Chris Coulson
Just because you have a particular issue doesn't mean that everybody who
tries your instructions are guaranteed to experience the same issue that
you're having.

Your instructions don't work anyway - your use of usermod is
syntactically incorrect, and your steps don't actually create a home
folder for the new user, so the users account doesn't work anyway. If I
tell useradd to create the home folder, then I have no such issues with
the new user account
