Maybe I'm missing something, but I can't see in these bug reports that

[Bug 421217] Re: Long keyboard layout names mess the panel layout up

2009-10-07 Thread Marcos
This bug exist for the Asturian variant (ast_ES code).
The width of phrase "Spain (Asturian variant with bottom-dot H and bottom-dot
L)" in the GDM for choose the variant keyboard is very large, exceeding the
width of screen.

Could be shortened to "Spain (Asturian)"?
I just tried in Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic alpha 6.
Thanks very much!

[Bug 445251] [NEW] Enable displaying input language instead of keyboard layout in gnome-keyboard-applet

2009-10-07 Thread Koterpillar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

Currently, gnome-keyboard-applet indicates the selected keyboard layout, not
language that layout belongs to. For example, when entering English using USA
keyboard layout is shows "USA".
1. This might be confusing for people using USA layout for entering English in
another countries.
2. When switching between two input languages, more important information is
not layout, but the language itself.
3. This is not consistent with what Windows shows.
So, there should be an option for making gnome-keyboard-applet display not the
layout name, but the language name (abbreviated if needed).

2009-10-07 Thread Mantas Kriaučiūnas
Mac_v, please don't tell lies and don't mess this bug with incorrect
comments!

gnome-dev-* icons are not used at all since 2008 (and should not be used!),
these names are only for old GNOME 2.20 and other legacy software.
Please read the gvfs sources and Icon Naming specifications before writing
any comments to this bug. Also you can read
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=506532#c6
If you are testing some icon themes then please remove (or rename)
gnome-dev-* icons and symlinks before testing, it's too hard understand
when there is a symlink mess in theme...

On Wed, Oct 07, 2009 at 07:55:14AM -, mac_v told such lies:

[Bug 428115] Re: Does not lock screen on lid close

2009-10-07 Thread Martin Pitt
So I close this again. The initially reported bug was fixed in comment
3, and it was determined that the people who still experience this have
a local configuration which disables locking.

I verified the default settings in karmic:

 * /apps/gnome-screensaver/lock_enabled is "false" by default (locking
after screen saver timeout), which still makes sense IMHO. It was like
this in all previous Ubuntu releases, changing it now would be
unexpected, and you can easily enable it in the screensaver settings.

 * /apps/gnome-power-manager/lock/use_screensaver_settings is also false
by default, and /suspend and /hibernate are true, meaning that it does
lock by default.

- Does not lock screen on lid close when using gdm autologin

[Bug 445243] [NEW] gnome-display-properties cannot set virtual resolution

2009-10-07 Thread Koterpillar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Trying to set up dual screen configuration (Acer Aspire One 110's screen
and Sony SDM-HS95P), I opened gnome-display-properties and set both
screens to their native resolutions (1024x600 and 1280x1024
respectively), clicked Apply. I was told that I need to enable virtual
resolution, I clicked Yes, authenticated for making a system-wide
change, told that I need to log out and log back in. However, nothing
changed on the next logon. I still get 800x600 on each screen and same
prompt when trying to set the resolution as I wanted.

[Bug 443311] Re: display properties notification area icon still fully coloured

2009-10-07 Thread Tuukka Hastrup
Tested current status (humanity-icon-theme 0.4.1-0ubuntu1, gnome-
settings-daemon 2.28.0-0ubuntu2).

$ dpkg -S gsd-xrandr.svg
humanity-icon-theme: /usr/share/icons/Humanity/apps/24/gsd-xrandr.svg
gnome-settings-daemon: /usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/apps/gsd-xrandr.svg
humanity-icon-theme: /usr/share/icons/Humanity/apps/48/gsd-xrandr.svg

The ones in humanity-icon-theme are currently symlinks to display-
capplet.svg. Changing them confirms comment #8: gsd-xrandr.svg is only
used in the tray, and the system menu won't be affected. Thus, a new
icon seems to be all that is needed.

[Bug 445244] [NEW] evolution forgets receiving some NEW mails via pop

2009-10-07 Thread Michael Langerhorst
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I have 4 pop E-Mail Accounts in Evolution. For approx. 10 days I do not receive
ALL mails but most of them (above 90 %). This problem cencerns ALL pop
accounts. When I enter my webmail accounts (e.g. gmx.net or a zimbra-account)
then those "forgotten" mails are marked as "read" and not new.
This is a serious problem, because normally I count on my mail programm that it
collects ALL mails. It should not be a problem of the webmail accounts, because
it concerns a gmx- and a zimbra-account.

AFAIK you are not right - this is stupid bug in /usr/sbin/update-icon-caches
script, because update-icons-cache does not create icon-theme.cache file, it
works only if icon-theme.cache file already exist in theme folder. Sergey
Nizovtsev (reporter of this bug) already noticed this and correctly assigned
this bug to gtk+2.0 package (update-icon-caches script is in libgtk2.0-bin
package).
This bug was fixed in gtk+ 2.16.1-1, which was released on 12 April 2009, but
Ubuntu developers forgot to include these improvements in Ubuntu Jaunty
libgtk+2.0-bin package, released on 15 April 2009 and included only in
libgtk2.0-bin 2.18.x package in Ubuntu Karmic, look at changelog.Debian :

So, please fix this bug in Ubuntu Jaunty and Hardy by applying attached
2 lines patch against update-icon-caches script, this is safe and
patched packages can go into ubuntu-updates repository.

[Bug 406377] Re: Nautilus "Computer" shows wrong icon for drives , no distinction for mount and unmount states

2009-10-07 Thread mac_v
In jaunty :

gnome-dev-harddisk-usb and all gnome-* > was used for mounted drives

only icon which behaved differently was > the "drive-harddisk" , this was used
for mounted filesystems/internal drives
while "gnome-dev-harddisk" was used for unmounted internal partitions

But , In karmic:
drive-harddisk > is used for both mounted and unmounted internal drives and
also for filesystem
drive-harddisk-usb > is used for external usb storage devices
drive-removable-media-usb > is used for pen drives

now only the drive-* icons are used for both mounted and unmounted
states.

Ideally, the gnome-dev-* icons need to be used for the mount states and the
drive-* labels for the unmount states. [as was in jaunty]
This allows easy differentiation of the mount and unmount states

This is not true.

In jaunty :
drive-harddisk-usb , and all drive-* labels are used for unmounted drives
gnome-dev-harddisk-usb and all gnome-* > was used for mounted drives

I am very sure , of this [gnome-* and dev-* difference] since this was
how it always worked for me in Jaunty.

But , In karmic:
drive-harddisk-usb > is used for external usb storage devices
drive-removable-media-usb > is used for pen drives

Now icons seem to be using only the drive-* labels , and there is no
distinction between the mount and unmount states , also see bug > Bug

Ideally, the gnome-dev-* icons need to be used for the mount states and
the drive-* labels for the unmount states.

[Bug 445231] [NEW] mime.cache makes .pdf files show up as "application/octet-stream"; won't open in Evince

2009-10-07 Thread Rob Speer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: shared-mime-info

On today's Karmic Beta, I am unable to open .pdf files. Evince complains
that "File type unknown (application/octet-stream) is not supported".

Evince bug #187225 says that this is a shared-mime-info problem, which
is why I'm reporting it here. That bug was closed after the reporter
discovered a workaround, but it is still a bug that prevents an
important use of the operating system for a very unintuitive reason.

The workaround is to delete ~/.local/share/mime/mime.cache, and that
worked for me as well. Perhaps an upgrade script for shared-mime-info
should do that.

[Bug 445082] Re: Preview don't work in Nautilus 2.28 - Ubuntu Karmic Beta

2009-10-07 Thread NAQuan
I think there's something wrong with the "file types detector", the mp3
files 're recognised as "plain/text" and display the "text preview"(bad
with binary files) instead of sound preview. I don't know what's going
on :(, please help.

Thanks a lot, Stuart! I forwarded the information upstream.
Unfortunately it does not seem that dmidecode gives us any clue that
this particular USB port is internal only.

David had another question:

Do you happen to have Windows on this machine as well? If so, would be
great if you could test this. If not, don't bother.
