The critical thing about this bug is, that it floods .xsession-errors from usually a few kb to megabytes. [Bug 460219] [NEW] Gnome Panels freeze in place sometimes.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: libgnome-desktop-2-11 I have the two default panels set at the top and bottom. You have been subscribed to a public bug: I rotated my LCD 180 degrees to portrait mode using the screen dialog in Gnome System/Preferences/Display Everything works fine apparently until you reboot from cold, the log in screen remains at the old landscape orientation until a few moment after you have entered a correct password to log in. [Bug 460151] [NEW] Desktop launchers for applications created from launchers manually created in alacarte have identical filenames
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: alacarte I use Docky, and add fancy launchers for Websites I like (in gOS style). For some reason, I noticed it was really difficult to add some icons I had created to Docky, and I figured out that it is because Alacarte is naming all of the icons I was creating with the same filename. For example, I create a launcher in Alacarte using xdg-open "http://www.wikipedia.org";. The entry works perfect in the Main Menu. I open the menu, and navigate to the item I just created and Right Click > Add this Launcher to Desktop. Even though the Desktop icon is named properly, examining the Desktop folder with the Terminal reveals that the icon's filename is "alacarte-made.desktop", instead of Wikipedia.desktop. Repeating the process with a different website, such as maps.google.com, creates a file in the Desktop folder called alacarte-made (copy).desktop. The files should be created with the name of the Icon, and not alacarte- made.desktop. In contrast, launchers created by Right Clicking the Desktop > Create Launcher have filenames named after the icon, and not the creating application. I have attached a screenshot demonstrating the bug. If you look at the screenshot, you will notice that I have 3 .desktop launchers in my Desktop folder, which are also visible on the Desktop to the right of the Terminal window. The Gmail and Google Wave icons were created in Alacarte, and then sent to the Desktop using the method I explained in the 2nd paragraph above. You will notice that the filenames of the two icons are alacarte-made.desktop and alacarte-made (copy).desktop. The Google Reader icon was created by Right Clicking the Desktop directly, and you will notice it's file is named correctly. [Bug 456093] Re: Duplicated entries of Okular in "Open With" -> "Other Application"
This is an intractable problem to solve from Nautilus. Application developers can generate as many desktop files as they like with the same Name key and there's really nothing we can realistically do with them (we'd just make the menu/dialog enormous by including bogus things like the commandline string or adding numbers for duplicate names which don't really help most users in any way). It's a trivial problem to solve for misbehaving applications. For a GNOME example of this, see Brasero during the 2.26 cycle. This package used to include many desktop files with identical names. It has since been fixed. Fix your desktop entries to use different names for calling with different arguments so that they show up in menus differently. As Sebastien noted, we can't use NoDisplay (which was the first solution we tried, and I actually committed it, but had to revert it for applications which use this with different semantics). It could be solved by going to FreeDesktop.org and figuring out a better way to solve this problem, like reviving actions within desktop files, but this hasn't been seriously proposed by anyone and it's not likely something we'll implement in Nautilus unless there's a consensus that it's the way to go, and it will *still* require you to fix your desktop files. ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- Duplicated entries of Okular in "Open With" -> "Other Application" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/456093 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 452079] Re: Kile installes Konqueror and Dolphin as recommended dependency
It's not a nautilus bug that installing another file manager overrides the default handler for inode/directory, and it's a much more complex problem than that. Furthermore, this seems to have absolutely nothing to do with nautilus, but instead a packaging bug with 'kile' Recommending the world. ** Package changed: nautilus (Ubuntu) => kile (Ubuntu) -- Kile installes Konqueror and Dolphin as recommended dependency https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/452079 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 460068] [NEW] Unable to play DVD with Encryption
Public bug reported: Hi, Fresh install of 9.10 beta. I've followed the instructions from https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats/PlayingDVDs#Ubuntu 9.04 and 9.10 (i386, amd64) installed libdvdread4 and ran the command sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh Using Movie Player (as recommended in Synaptic description for libdvdread4), the screen greys out. Using VLC, I get the foolowing output: Playback failure: VLC cannot set the DVD's title. It possibly cannot decrypt the entire disc. Your input can't be opened: VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvd:///dev/sr0'. Check the log for details. I had it working in 9.04 so this would be a regression?
