[Bug 447013] Re: stickynotes_applet loses content

2009-11-05 Thread Mitsch
1. Is this reproducible?

I really don't know. I can't remember doing something special.
Surprisingly, I had the same issue on another jaunty-machine. So, I guess there
are more people out there with the same problems. The only special about my
setup is probably that I often switch between Single- and Dual-Head
configuration on both machines. That's all I can say about it.

[Bug 474669] Re: [9.10 x64] Auto timed login not work after logout

2009-11-05 Thread sash
I think that GDM is not restarted, when the user leaves system. Because
if to restart GDM these commands

sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start

or

sudo stop --no-wait gdm
sudo start gdm

all works

[Bug 469818] Re: taskbar icons corrupted after logging out and back in

2009-11-05 Thread S. Christian Collins
1. It is reproducible, but it doesn't happen very often, so there are no 100%
reproducible steps that I've found.
2. When the bug occurs, it's usually when I'm logging on and off, either with
one user, or with multiple accounts. For example, just yesterday, the bug
occurred again when setting up a guest account on my laptop. After I tested
the guest account, I logged back in as my primary user, and saw what appeared
to be two volume control icons in my system tray (instead of one volume control
and one network manager icon).

Here, I have to correct two statements in my initial report.
1) I had initially stated, I can still click on the area where the icon should
be, and it behaves normally. Well, when the bug occured yesterday, I realized
that was not true.
2) I had initially stated, The rightmost taskbar icon fails to display
correctly (it appears to be displaying a bit of graphics from the element to
its left). When the bug occurred yesterday, the corrupted networkmanager icon
was to the left of the volume control, but assumed the appearance of the volume
control.

So, it appears that the problem may not be with the panel after all, but with
the network manager. As of now, here is my best guess as to what is happening:
1) Somehow the network manager is becoming unresponsive.
2) When the network manager's tray icon is to be drawn, the network manager
never draws its icon, leaving whatever was previously in that place graphically
still on the screen.

I realize that this bug report isn't very good, and I apologize. I had
too many assumptions in my initial report (and possibly in this one as
well).

[Bug 475721] [NEW] totem says it needs plugins to watch TV but neither says what it needs nor offers to get them

2009-11-05 Thread Kalman Reti
Public bug reported:

Under the Movie menu, there is an item to Watch TV on DVB Adapter 0.

If I select it, I get a popup dialog appears which says:

Totem cannot play this type of media (Digital Television)
because you do not have the appropriate plugins to handle it.

Please install the necessary plugins and
restart Totem to be able to play this media.

However, neither this message nor the help documentation mention
what plugins are needed. At other times Totem has offered to go
look for a plugin, but it didn't do this either.

Finally, under Edit / Plugins, there is nothing listed which sounds
remotely applicable. Presumably they are the already loaded plugins
and if I could get the right plugin for digital TV watching, it would appear
there.

[Bug 475729] [NEW] Cannot invoke nautilus remotely as normal user vie ssh -X (x-forwarding)

2009-11-05 Thread Grizzly
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When connecting to a romot machine via ssh -X host and then trying to do
something like nautilus . I get this
(in german, but googling after this message gives tons of hits, has been threre
since jaunty. Problem, message doesn't mean anything to me...)

(nautilus:22433): Eel-CRITICAL **: eel_preferences_get_boolean:
assertion `preferences_is_initialized ()' failed

(nautilus:22433): Eel-WARNING **: GConf-Fehler:

the session bus: Failed to connect to socket /tmp/dbus-W893og2BdG:

I have /tmp on tmpfs in RAM - has this anything to do with it?
AND a SUDO nautilus (which one normally does not want) works!

[Bug 407621] Re: (design decision) Icons missing from context menu , dialogue buttons , firefox bookmark favicons, system menu

2009-11-05 Thread ubuntolo
Reading comments here is clear enough that a lot of users (including me) saw
the missing icons as a bug. Guidelines are good tools to give consistency, but
we should also concentrate on *what* we perceive as consistent.
A main menu with tree items, where the indentation clearly shows that something
is missing on a number of menu items is just inconsistent.
To the end user the theory of item and non-item menu object is just a technical
aspect, what he/she can see is an inconsistent looking menu.

[Bug 475693] [NEW] Evince prints pdfs on US letter instead of a4

2009-11-05 Thread wilk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

Even though my printer is configured for a4 paper (/etc/cups/ppd/HP-
LaserJet-1018.ppd:*DefaultPageSize: A4), and the print setup from evince
says A4, printing a pdf file from evince results in the page being
shrunk to the US letter format. xpdf and gv prints the file on A4, as it
should be.

Attached is an exemple pdf file that evince prints on US letter and xpdf

[Bug 475712] [NEW] Rhythmbox plays some mp3-files without sound

2009-11-05 Thread Daniel Schury
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 9.10

Rhythmbox keeps silent, while playing certain mp3-files. It's more or
less randomly, but if a file can't be played once, it will happen all
the time. I can't find any regularity, it often happens, that one file
from one and the same album can be played, but others not.

When Rhythmbox is started from the commandline, it doesn't give any
hints, when playing the file, what could be the problem.

 Table de version :

I was trying to set the clock time manually since a firewall blocks the
port for NTP. The clock was 4 hours late. I opened System -
Administration - Date and Time, unlocked the configuration panel, and
adjusted the hour.

I expected to time not to change in the configuration panel. I also
expected the time to be set after I clock the Close button.

After a few seconds, the hour is reset to what it was before changing
it. Clicking the Close button before it changes back does not set the
time.

This is very similar to what was reported in a comment of bug #400130.

If I use the basic (default) calculator and enter 10x0= to get the answer (the

This is different from the basic calculator in Jaunty which shows the actual

[Bug 475772] [NEW] totem locks the dvd drive after media is ejected

2009-11-05 Thread warren
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Totem likes to lock the DVD drive when a DVD is ejected after the drive is
closed again. I tried a manual software eject with the eject command to no
avail. It says there is something using the drive or something. When this
happens, totem displays an incorrect error message on the first DVD eject,
something about not being able to read an encrypted source.

remove the DVD from the totem playlist.

[Bug 475781] [NEW] evolution freezes when opening an attachment

2009-11-05 Thread Robin Sheat
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When I receive an email that contains an attachment, if I attempt to
open it, evolution becomes unresponsive and uses 100% CPU.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Receive an email with an attachment, view that message
2. In the email header block, open the attachments section
3. Double-click the attachment
4. Watch as evolution locks up, and the attachment is not opened.

Expected result:
Evolution keeps running and the attachment is opened in the default viewer.

I've seen this with a few different file types, PDF, PNG, etc.

Right-click-Open in Something seems to work properly.

[Bug 475778] [NEW] Power applet shows 2 icons in system tray after hibernate

2009-11-05 Thread Rikard
Private bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

As in the summary. Worked fine until upgrading to Karmic Koala distro.
Doesn't cause any errors as far as I can see, but pretty annoying with
two icons (and definitely a bug).

[Bug 401446] Re: Gnome lost icons position on the desktop

2009-11-05 Thread sim909
Same issue here, exactly as Zeno described.
If within same partition, symlink icon position is remembered both if link has
absolute or relative path
If outside of partition, symlink icon position is lost both if link has
absolute or relative path
Same issue with links to network shares (I guess this counts as not same
partition)

Running Karmic 64bit with all updates, including the proposed ones

[Bug 475806] [NEW] gnome-power-manager does not reflect change from AC power and charged state to battery power and discharging state

2009-11-05 Thread jgolightly
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Using 9.10 Karmic, gnome-power-manager 2.28.1-0ubuntu1.

When booting on battery power, gnome-power-manager loads and correctly
reflects battery use, charge level, and discharging state. When AC
power is supplied, gnome-power-manager updates correctly to show AC use,
charge level and charging state. At 100% charge, gnome-power-manager
does not correctly update if AC power is disconnected to return to
battery operation, and continues to show Laptop battery is fully
charged.

If I let the battery discharge for an hour or two and reconnect AC
power, gnome-power-manager will correctly show AC power, charge level
(from 100% to, for instance, 18% battery level) and charging state.

[Bug 475503] Re: users-admin fails to start

2009-11-05 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
Thanks for your report. The error comes from PolicyKit, whose daemon
can't be started for some reason. You may work around this problem by
running 'sudo /usr/lib/policykit-1/polkitd' before starting users-admin.
Could you confirm that this works? That information will help us to
determine the cause of the bug.
