[Bug 483461] [NEW] Brasero is not ejecting the disc after completion of data writing, just umounting

2009-11-15 Thread amitm
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

Even when opted for ejecting the disc after completion of data-writing, Brasero
is not ejecting the disc (CD/ DVD).
After the disc is burned, Brasero just unmounts it (as the icon vanishes from
the desktop). One has to manually eject through the eject button.
Upto the last releases of Ubuntu (9.04 and before that 8.10), I didn't
observe this problem.

Nvidia 9500gt card will NOT function properly with generic Ubuntu
drivers.

Having been spoiled because Ubuntu has done such a great job with
hardware interaction, I failed to notice that this problem was
associated with use of generic drivers.

Executed a clean reinstall of 9.10
Upgraded to Kernel 2.6.31-15 (default upgrade) 2009-11-15
Installed recommended Nvidia driver (185)

Executed gconf-editor via Alt+F2
Changed apps gnome-power-manager actions sleep_type_ac from suspend to hibernate

Screensaver, suspend and hibernate each function correctly on my desktop
computer.
Please close this issue – User Error.

[Bug 483380] [NEW] totem should depends on a versioned totem-common package

2009-11-15 Thread Saïvann Carignan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

totem package actually depends on gnome version of totem-common. This
seems to be a mistake since using a different version of totem and
totem-common caused segmentation fault in bug #459423

Therefore, it might be interesting to change this in totem packaging as
this source package provides both totem and totem-common. Maybe that
this little change can be included in lucid packaging.

This would require to replace this, in debian/control :

totem-common (>= ${gnome:Version}),
totem-common (<< ${gnome:NextVersion}),

by :

totem-common (= ${source:Version}),

I agree!

this will continue to be a problem as new dupes and subscriptions are

[Bug 416251] Re: Nautilus does not show Desktop thumbnails

2009-11-15 Thread Santiago
Another comment is that this bug not only happens in Desktop JPEG
images... it happens when making some copy&paste and deletion of images
or pictures is the Pictures folder... in my case I maintain certain
order of pictures in some folders and happens when I download images
from my mobile phone... so I cut and paste several pictures from one
folder to another using nautilus tabs and noticed that after few file
handling it stops showing thumbnails of files in the same folder and in
fact it shows no icons at all and no subfolders... is like it hangs when
searching for files in that particular folder... if a second nautilus
window is opened and you go to the same folder... it fixes and shows
contents in both windows. It is very annoying because I have to Alt+F2 >
"killall nautilus" and Alt+F2 > "nautilus" again...

[Bug 459423] Re: Unable to play video from "Youtube plugin" results

2009-11-15 Thread Saïvann Carignan
I was able to reproduce the problem reported by Gigi and Jean Levasseur
with totem up-to-date and totem-common not updated. The problem goes
away when updating totem-common. Therefore, is it possible to have your
feedback again with totem and totem-common up to date?

Also all tests were done on the karmic package only, isn't there anyone
to test the jaunty fix? I confirm that in my case, the jaunty fix works
great here, no matter what video I try to play. However, I'm not playing
youtube videos very often.

[Bug 483350] [NEW] Karmic: Quicklaunch icons on Panel sometimes move, although Locked to panel

2009-11-15 Thread zsolt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I've realized this phenomenon in every Ubuntu release I've seen. It
happens regularly when I play a game through Wine and then return from
the fullscreen mode or on other occasions too. And at the next startup
after it happened I find my icons again at different places. What's
strange is that it ends up somehow different all the time. The order of
icons in Notification area changes regularly too.

[Bug 483349] [NEW] Totem cannot play this type of media (DVD) because it does not have the appropriate plugins to be able to read from the disc.

2009-11-15 Thread KSeipp
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Error message: "Totem cannot play this type of media (DVD) because it
does not have the appropriate plugins to be able to read from the disc."
The only operating system installed is ubuntu 9.04 Desktop Edition. I'm
able to play a DVD that I recorded from a TV program on a DVD
Recorder/Player. But I am unable to play any of my movies/DVD's that I
purchased. I have reinstalled the operating system without resolving
the problem. I am a new user, and I'm still learning how to use ubuntu.
So, please keep it simple.

[Bug 467636] Re: Sound Recorder not recording anything

2009-11-15 Thread hazard
Identical problem here. Everything on playback is good, with alsa, oss
or pulse. The problem persist every time I try to record with gnome
audio-recorder or whatever other program. I notice that the Input level
is very low, for not saying 0. If I move Input Volume on max, the input
level get only 3 bars but during record I get lot of noise and only a
little audio.I have a realtek audio card controlled by Nvidia. I didn't
have any problem with Jaunty.

[Bug 483335] [NEW] Rhythmbox 0.12.5 cannot start playback of Last.fm after pausing

2009-11-15 Thread Alan Musnikow
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Rhythmbox 0.12.5 in Ubuntu 9.10, Karmic Koala, on a Dell Inspiron 1545n
displays an error message such as the following every time it tries to restart
playback of Last.fm after stopping playback of Last.fm.
'Couldn't start playback
"http://play.last.fm/user/7add...de632.mp3": Forbidden'.

I expected it to restart playback of Last.fm rather than display the
error message above.

The source package is "rhythmbox". The installed version is
"0.12.5-0ubuntu5".

I work around this problem by quiting the "Music Player" icon at the top
of the screen and restarting "Rhythmbox". Only closing the "Music
Player" window and restarting "Rhythmbox" is not sufficient, since
clicking on the "Play" icon for Last.fm gets the error message above.

The first time Rhythmbox tries to restart playback of Last.fm after stopping
playback of Last.fm, it also displays the following error message.
"Search for suitable plugin?
The required software to play this file is not installed. You need to install
suitable plugins to play media files. Do you want to search for a plugin that
supports the selected file?
The search will also include software which is not officially supported."

Running the search results in the following window.
"No packages with the requested plugins found.
The requested plugins are:
text/html decoder".

** Affects: rhythmbox (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

we can wait for the next Gnome version:).

Cheers,

[Bug 483309] Re: firefox 3.5 freezes. also ubuntu 9.1 does not "wake up" after "sleep" with firefox open

2009-11-15 Thread Steve McGrath
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have the correct package associated with
it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this
bug as a bug in firefox-3.5.

[Bug 269511] [NEW] When connecting to webdav, the password prompt doesn't have focus

2009-11-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When you have a webdav server on Places, and you connect to it, the
password prompt appears without focus. Most non-tech-people just go
ahead and type their password. They end up typing them anywhere else,
and pressing enter. That's kind of dangerous. I believe the dialog
should come with focus and the focus on the password field.

Thanks.

[Bug 468577] Re: "unable to start playback pipeline" (other apps work)

2009-11-15 Thread NeilA
My problem was associated with the installation of 9.10.
First I 'upgraded' with the online version. Several applications including
Rhythmbox then malfunctioned.
Then I burned a CD and re-installed from that - some problems disappeared but I
still could not get my audio set-up right.
Finally I erased the entire partition and made a clean installation. All is now
well.
Seems that something hanging over from 8.04 is not properly updated during
installation of 9.10.
Perhaps with time and patience I could have tracked down the precise problem
but life's too short!
