[Bug 451086] Re: Rhythmbox Notification Bubble shows wrong cover art

2009-12-05 Thread Saïvann Carignan
Uh, after more testing, I am able to confirm this. It does not happen
very often in my case. It seems to be because rhythmbox does not
download the cover in time, or something such. However, if the problem
is not permanent in my case, if one mp3 does not show right cover, the
next one appears correctly and so on, in notify-osd.

I've applied the update, but now the bubble shows the Rhythmbox icon for
everything even if it has art. The only way I can get the art to appear
is if I press my keyboard's fast forward button. After that song
finishes, though, the icon comes back.

I see two different bugs worth of a discussion going on here. The
original bug report is going on about jabber problems, and one
wishlisting how it should be different. Both are legit, but the
wishlist one should be filed separately, and if the original bug is
still a problem i should be sent upstream as per sebastiens original
request.

[Bug 493044] [NEW] visualizations freeze between songs of a playlist

2009-12-05 Thread MorphOne567
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Audio playback is fine in playing multiple files of audio content, but
visualizations freeze and stay at the exact point from when one track
ends and a new one begins. It happens after the end of the very first
track and just remains suspended while the rest of the audio plays,
nothing too major, just a minor glitch of some kind.

I am using Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala 64-Bit
and the Totem media player is: Totem Movie Player 2.28.2 using GStreamer 0.10.25

I expected that as a playlist continued to be played by the Media
player, that the visualizations would continue without pausing, in the
same way that the audio continued to play itself.

[Bug 493034] [NEW] gnome-panel hangs with time, consuming %CPU and %MEM

2009-12-05 Thread mlg7
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

package: gnome-panel

I expect it never to hang, but it hangs with time.
Usually, it happens when there's a heavy CPU load.
In addition, it slows down the system.
Probably, there's a race condition.
When deluge had a tray icon icon, the crashes happened more often.

Workaround: I have a launcher icon for "killall gnome-panel" on my desktop.
It gets restarted after it's killed.

[Bug 289918] Re: Regression: Connecting to FreeNX breaks keyboard layout in Intrepid

2009-12-05 Thread kwutchak
I've just managed to get things working on my machines.

My guess is that re-loading the evdev module did the trick (I actually
did a full server reboot).

I was already using evdev as the keyboard on both the server and client.
That was working fine until I upgraded the server to KDE 4. This (re-)
broke the keyboard mappings. I tried restarting the free nx service,
xdm service, logging out / in. No help. Restarting the server did the

[Bug 493029] [NEW] Evince PDF margins problem at print

2009-12-05 Thread Apteryx
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

1) Using Ubuntu 9.10 amd64
2) Evince version 2.28.1-0ubuntu1.2

When I print PDF files using Evince, the margins are changed from what
is displayed in the viewer. The result is uncentered text on paper,
which looks bad.

This seems not be a printer problem, as the same document is better
printed (regarding margins correctness) with Acrobat Reader 9, installed
on Ubuntu also. I have included Evince and Acrobat Reader respective
outputs in the attachments. The test document, publicly available here :
http://www.idealsoftware.com/PDF/rtf.pdf was used for testing, but any
PDF file (haven't tested other types of file yet) is affected.

For the record, my printer is a Samsung SCX-4200 monochrome laser
printer.

[Bug 405148] Re: Laptop battery indicator indicates 0% charge when fully charged

2009-12-05 Thread Brett
I'm having a similar issue. Only, it isn't 0%. The amount changes.
Lowest it has been was 62.3%. I thought this was odd, so decided to
test my battery using the built-in indicator that is on the battery
(Dell Inspiron 1720). The external test determined that my battery was
at 100%. Now, here is the odd part. Once I pressed that button on the
battery to see if the battery agreed with the battery indicator in
Gnome, the Gnome indicator changed to 100%. I was plugged into the wall
when this happened, so I'm not sure if it was an incredible fluke or if
pressing the button caused the battery to pass info onto the kernel (or
where ever the Gnome battery indicator gets its info from) that updated
the indicator.

Sorry for the double posting for the apport-collect info, I wasn't sure
if I needed to run the utility as my user account or root, so I did
both. The root account is the second one (comments #33 and 34).

[Bug 455129] Re: The black screen remains after opening the laptop

2009-12-05 Thread Gilbert Mendoza
Just to add to this thread, I ended up creating a Gnome keyboard
shortcut (Ctrl+Super+P) which executes "vbetool dpms on". When the
screen in non-responsive, I use the key combination and it turns the

vbetool needs root privileges, so I just used the setuid attribute so
normal users can run it.

sudo chmod +s /usr/sbin/vbetool

[Bug 449910] Re: [karmic] Certain notification area icons are invisible

2009-12-05 Thread Ben
This is happening to me too. It just started about a week ago. I have
four icons in my notification area immediately after I log in; wireless,
battery/power, bluetooth and volume control. Sometimes of of the icons
will have a non-operational double that takes the place of one of the
other icons (but I only ever have a total of four icons) and other
times, one of the icons will be covered by some other image that looks
like a chunk of the right part of the panel. I can fix the issue by
removing the notification area from my top panel and adding it back.

[Bug 492979] Re: Change current user password via System-Administration-Users and Groups does not work

2009-12-05 Thread macleapa
Additional Note:
Same thing happened twice. However the third time I clicked the "Click to make
changes" button.
If you click "Click to make changes" first it seems to work fine.

This is still a bug though. You should not be allowed to "pretend" to
make a change if you are not currently in "change mode". Also, it
affected the keyring authentication without actually changing your
password!

Cheers,
Paul

[Bug 492959] Re: Evince cannot save filled PDF forms

2009-12-05 Thread Dave Walker
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

I have tried to reproduce the problem using evince 2.28.1 on a vanilla
installation of Karmic but I am unable to reproduce the problem using
SAVE A COPY.

Please answer these questions:

* Is this reproducible?
* If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?

This will help us to find and resolve the problem.

[Bug 492979] [NEW] Change current user password via System-Administration-Users and Groups does not work

2009-12-05 Thread macleapa
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

Ubuntu 9.10 -
User Settings Window (Navigate menu: System-Administration-Users and Groups)
I was expecting to change my current user password.
My password remained unchanged after reboot, even though "User Settings"
indicated "Password Changed"

Steps:
1. Navigate to "User Settings" as above.
2. Select current user account and click Properties button.
3. Click "Change Password..."
4. Type current password and click Authenticate
5. Should see "Authenticated!" in status area.
6. Type new password in both areas
7. Click "Change Password"
8. Should see "Your password has been changed" in status area.
9. Click close.
10. Reboot
11. Login with new password fails!

You will need to login with your old password.
Note also that the keyring password must also be set in order ot connect to
your network after login.

Apologies if this has already been logged... I was not able to find it.

Paul

[Bug 411350] Re: gnome-screensaver not functioning

2009-12-05 Thread Alex Shulgin
Hey, I've just removed gnome-screensaver and installed xscreensaver
instead. It doesn't work either!

Can it be something is broken on some lower level?

I've re-logged in, checked that xscreensaver process is running,
adjusted settings to activate after 1 minute of idle time--and it didn't
work, just like before. Still it can be activated with Ctrl+Alt+Del
three finger salute.

On an aside note, couldn't we patch gnome-screensaver to fallback to
earlier behaviour if it sees that gnome-session isn't running?

[Bug 492959] [NEW] Evince cannot save filled PDF forms

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

Whenever I open a PDF form, and make a change to it (any change, such as
filling a field), and then try to save a copy on Evince, the resulting file is
empty. Not as in empty fields, but as in zero-bytes-long file.
However, when trying to save a copy before any changes have been made, it works
fine.

This is not the same as bug 299409, since in that bug the resulting
files are not empty.

[Bug 492948] [NEW] Nautilus not able to handle litteral IPv6 address like smb://::1/sharing/

2009-12-05 Thread Sander Jonkers
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

It seems Nautilus' SMB does not know how to handle litteral IPv6 address
like smb://::1/sharing/ . This results in:

Could not find "smb:///sharing".
Please check the spelling and try again.

The variant smb://[::1]/sharing/ results in:

Could not display "smb://[::1]/sharing/".

Expected behaviour: just a succesful connection to the share /sharing/
on the localhost via IPv6, by using ::1 or [::1].

This bug is relevant because SMB itself over IPv6 works great and is a solution
for SMB access without IPv4 NAT problems, and/but a FQDN is not always
available.
NB: ::1 is just an example. Addresses like 2001:... don't work either.

Important remarks:

Nautilus' SMB does *correctly* handle:
- litteral IPv4 address like 127.0.0.1
- name resolving to IPv4 address
- name resolving to IPv6 address (yes!)
- smb://ip6-localhost/sharing/ (yes!)
- Bonjour/zereconf names like smb://quirinius.local./sharing/

smbclient does *correctly* handle litteral IPv6 addresses:

san...@quirinius:~$ smbclient -N -L ::1
Anonymous login successful
Domain=[WORKGROUP] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.4.0]

Sharename Type Comment
- ---
print$ Disk Printer Drivers
IPC$IPC IPC Service (quirinius server (Samba, Ubuntu))
Brother-HL-2030-series Printer Brother HL-2030 series
sharing Disk
::1 is an IPv6 address -- no workgroup available
san...@quirinius:~$

still shows wrong album cover (from older album).

[Bug 291853] Re: Weather service does not add entry if city is selected but "Timezone" field is "Unknown"

2009-12-05 Thread Apteryx
I have great news : it works!

I was just being impatient, after forgetting about the absence of
temperature in the clock applet for a few minutes, I was later surprised
when I found it was displaying!

I confirm that the patch proposed by Philippe Gauthier works great.
Merci :)

[Bug 291853] Re: Weather service does not add entry if city is selected but "Timezone" field is "Unknown"

2009-12-05 Thread Apteryx
@Philippe : How would someone go to compile your modifications?

I tried (excluding the apt-get install used to add the dependencies) :
bzr branch lp:~philippe-gauthier/libgweather/replace-obsolete-tzid.lp291853
cd ~replace-obsolete-tzid.lp291853
bzr builddeb

The build stopped when bzr saw I didn't have your gpg key, but at this
step it had already compiled and output several deb files in the
~/build-area folder.

I installed successfully those four (4) generated debs, using gdebi :
libgweather-common_2.28.0-1ubuntu3_all.deb
python-gweather_2.28.0-1ubuntu3_amd64.deb
libgweather1_2.28.0-1ubuntu3_amd64.deb
libgweather-dev_2.28.0-1ubuntu3_amd64.deb

Then I rebooted (had to anyway, an upgrade had installed a new kernel).

After the reboot, there was no more meteo thingy beside the digital
clock. I tried removing and putting back the calendar-hour app, but it
didn't help. However, the independent meteo applet now displays the
weather status.

So after applying your builds; I get :
 - No meteo nor temperature with the clock applet (right click, preferences,
tick show meteo and temperature), even after choosing Montreal in "Places"
(emplacements, in french).
 - Meteo and temperature for Montréal now works by adding the "meteo bulletin"
applet.

I must be doing something bad. :)
Any help on this is welcome. Thank you for your work!

[Bug 492573] Re: package epiphany-browser-data 2.28.0-4ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade:

2009-12-05 Thread davprest
for sove this bug, you open the file /var/lib/dpkg/status (first make a copy)
to open this file to shell 1(sudo cp /var/lib/dpkg/status /root/); 2( sudo
gedit /var/lib/dpkg/status)
Search Package: epiphany-browser-data
and replace the status line with this status : ( Status: deinstall ok
config-files ) save and close.
then by the codes:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
Now it should work...
