[Bug 397892] Re: Screensaver does not turn on [Ubuntu / Xubuntu Karmic]

2009-12-07 Thread Marc Deslauriers
A new gnome-screensaver package was just published as a security update for
karmic.
The update fixes a known issue that causes gnome-screensaver not to come up
after the idle timeout expires.

Please install the update and reboot, and try gnome-screensaver again.

Apologies for the confusion; I was not refuting the patch, but merely
responding to the mention of the time passed since my initial report.
The patch works for me, but as I said earlier, I cannot ascribe that
solely to the patch, as the situations in which the applets would
rearrange arise far less often these days.

Regards, and thanks for the continued effort,

[Bug 485695] Re: Gnome screensaver crashes and unlocks screen

2009-12-07 Thread Chris Coulson
Thanks - I'll leave it open and the importance as it is for now.
However, in the meantime, please enable Apport by editing
/etc/default/apport and restarting your machine. This will catch any
future crashes which you can submit then, although these crash reports
will be of limited use if the crash is an unhandled X exception. It
might give some idea where it is failing though

Thanks

[Bug 493773] [NEW] brasero failed to burn cause drive was faster than resource (NAS - SMB)

2009-12-07 Thread benste
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

I would expect Brasero to automaticly slow down the drive if the
resource is busy.

Guess the same could happen if reading from ext USB HDD or something
equal.

In my (worst) case I tried to burn form a Samba share on a NAS connected
by wifi.

network said 200 kbit/s reading
brasero burned up to 10x

Strange thing was that usually nautilus can read from the NAS with
arround 1,5 Mbit/s

2009-12-07 Thread Dave Walker
Azraele:

Could you also obtain an strace of Nautilus after it has spiked to 100%?

1 - Make sure strace is installed.

  apt-get install strace

2 - Find the process ID of :

  pidof nautilus

3 - Start strace with the process ID:

  strace -Ff -tt -p 2>&1 | tee strace-.log

4 - Perform any actions necessary to reproduce the bug.
5 - You may have to hit Control-C to get strace to detach from a running
program.
6 - Attach the complete output from strace, contained in strace-.log,

[Bug 492810] Re: Nautilus uses 100% cpu

2009-12-07 Thread Dave Walker
Azraele:

I am very sorry for doubting you. You are correct and your concerns
are valid. Do you have any other thoughts on how to reproduce the
problem? Is Nautilus launching on its own and spiking to 100% while
downloading? after the downloads are complete? Are you opening
Nautilus to browse the folders where the torrents are being stored when
the problem occurs?

We will need to figure out the steps necessary to recreate the problem
before we can confirm the bug. Once I can recreate the problem then it
will become very easy to reproduce and get it fixed. Any help you can
provide to get us there would be appreciated.

[Bug 493759] Re: gnome-panel keeps segfaulting

2009-12-07 Thread Chris Coulson
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

and I can't still get TIMED LOGINS after existing the current session (not
doing the full reboot - after fool reboot I'm logging wi/o password fine with
Automatic Login enabled

It is specifically TIMED LOGIN that DOES NOT WORK

I'm using EEE PC 900 with "Ubuntu 9.10 - Karmic Koala" standard repos
(main, universe, multiverse)., kernel 2.6.31-15-generic

So far this bug is NOT resolved. Quite annoying bug IMHO.

2009-12-07 Thread Brian Curtis
Danny. The purpose of upstream tasks are to follow along with upstream.
If you want to change the package associated with the bug, click the
down arrow next to empathy and change the package to whichever. Please
stop opening upstream tasks, as they are pointless unless they are
linked to a bug report upstream. As per my original request, please
make a bug upstream so we can link it here correctly.

[Bug 441396] Re: Totem hangs while loading a video with .srt (or .txt in MicroDVD format) sub from nautilus

2009-12-07 Thread Massimo Mund
Just want to know: When there is a fix ... and there seems to be a fix ;) ...
why does not somebody just add it and build new packages? I am not that
experienced with packaging as maintainers are, but it took me 10 minutes to
complete the task.
I don't want to insult somebody, i just want to know where this delay comes
from.

I am pretty motivated to build new packages but i guess not everyone may
upload new ones ;)

[Bug 454107] Re: [Karmic] Unable to format new unformatted Corsair 16 GB USB drive

2009-12-07 Thread Jempa
Same problem on my brand new USB LaCie LittleDisc 500GB. Cannot format
the 500GB to anything, "...helper exited with exit code 1...MS-DOS

It already has a 10MB FAT32 partition with some LaCie stuff on, when
trying to delete it I get this full error message:

Error erasing: helper exited with exit code 1: In part_del_partition:

No known partition table found

got disk
got partition - part->type=4

And this is when running sudo palimpsest.

Any workaround?

[Bug 44082] Re: GNOME Panel icons (on right side) move apparently randomly on session start in some situations

2009-12-07 Thread Haggai Eran
Hi,

I'm sorry I was too quick with my comment. Today I noticed that my
applets have changed their positions again after rebooting, when the
screen was previously larger. I guess this bug still exists in the ppa
version.

(upgrade from Jaunty, upgrade from Intrepid Install)

When I say "stop working" I mean that screensaver and powersave modes
no longer engage after any idle timeout.

So the current temporary workaround for this bug: turn off

[Bug 493716] [NEW] Input/output error when saving files on a GVFS mounted FTP directory

2009-12-07 Thread Bruce van der Kooij
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gvfs

I used ubuntu-bug gvfs-fuse (1.2.2) to report and I'm running Ubuntu
9.04 (Jaunty).

Starting since a few days ago whenever I edit a file on a mounted FTP
directory I get a "Input/output error" and the result is essentially
that the file is deleted (0 bytes). This happens whenever I try to edit
something in ~/.gvfs directly, e.g. using Geany or even nano. The only
program that manages to save correctly so far has been gedit. I asked
around and it seems that's because gedit doesn't use FUSE, but GIO.

Also, so far I've only had this happen with FTP mounts, SFTP mounts on
the other hand are still working like they're supposed to. I'm certainly
wondering if this is FTP server specific, but I haven't yet verified if
the behavior occurs with another FTP server.

Coincidently it seems that the kernel on my system was recently upgraded
(to 2.6.28.17.22), though I am not sure if this is related.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04
Package: gvfs-fuse 1.2.2-0ubuntu2
ProcEnviron:
 LC_TIME=nl_NL.UTF-8
 PATH=(custom, user)
 LANG=en_US.UTF-8
 SHELL=/bin/bash
SourcePackage: gvfs
Uname: Linux 2.6.28-17-generic i686

[Bug 491483] Re: Since failsafe-x was enabled in karmic it starts if gdm is disabled and kdm is used. (low graphics mode error)

2009-12-07 Thread Kevin Christmas
I had success with Philip's gdm patch! "kdm[1064]: X server died during
startup" and "kdm[1064]: Failed to start X server. Starting failsafe X
server." are not to be found in the syslog.

PLEASE refactor this "upstart sprawl." This was a very painful bug for
me. As an Intel IGP owner, I wasn't even given a terminal to fall back
to. It would be a shame if this bug reared its head again.

I have fixed packages queued in my ppa for anyone that doesn't want to
build gdm on their own (or wait for the official update).

History:
Files deleted from / were unable to be moved to Trash as there is no trash
folder on /

Problem:
I created /.Trash-petur with chown petur.petur and then delete a file from /
The file was moved to /.Trash-petur/files/
The file does not show up in Nautilus Trash.

I then removed the /.Trash-petur directory and created /.Trash/ with chmod 1777
and then deleted another file from /
This time a subdir was created under /.Trash/ and the deleted file was
moved to /.Trash//files/
The file does not show up in Nautilus Trash.

I thought maby there is a bug causing the files in /.Trash// not to be
displayed.
I deleted a file from /home/ and it shows up in Trash.
I did "Empty Trash" and the file disappeared from the Trash.
However the files deleted from / are still in /.Trash//files/

[Bug 397892] Re: Screensaver does not turn on [Ubuntu / Xubuntu Karmic]

2009-12-07 Thread Josef Wells
I cleaned out my users .gnome* .gconf* etc and my screensaver/power-
saving started working again, however, if I go to screensaver
preferences and make a change, it stops working until the next
logout/login.

I can not be sure that the fresh .gnome* .gconf* made a difference, or if that
coincided with a change in the package.
I am also not 100% sure that mucking with the screensaver preferences breaks
it, but others should give it a try.

[Bug 492948] Re: Nautilus not able to handle litteral IPv6 address like smb://::1/sharing/

2009-12-07 Thread Sander Jonkers
As the command

   $ nautilus smb://2001:666:2:1/sharing

leads to error message

   Could not display "smb://2001/sharing/".

it seems the parser (?) chops off everything starting from the : (maybe
because the : could be the separator between name/FQDN and port?), I
tried to escape the colon:

$ nautilus smb://%3A%3A1/sharing

Alas, this leads to the same error:

   Could not find "smb:///sharing".

So, even the escaped colon (%3A) is seen as a colon and leads to a chop-
off. :-(

As

  $ nautilus smb://[::1]/sharing

leads to

  Could not display "smb://[::1]/sharing/".

I don't think there is a need to escape the [ and ].

IMHO: the best solution is that Nautilus' SMB should be triggered by [ ] to use
the included stuff as a litteral IPv6 address

[Bug 354995] Re: Brasero Checksum Error

2009-12-07 Thread Richard Theil
Could some of your issues be related to a TAO vs. SAO write mode issue
as described in my (yet unconfirmed) bug

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cdrkit/+bug/465035

? (Analysis is in Comment#1) I can get wodim to work reliably from the
command line if I force -sao. But all the GUI tools or wodim by default
use TAO and that causes a short write as described above. I list related
debian bug 427771 and some further analysis on a list as well.

Is my bug a duplicate of this one, or are we seeing different issues?
