[Bug 498100] [NEW] Search folder auto-empties

2009-12-17 Thread mbck
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I have a search folder containing items that are of status "not read".

In previous versions of Evolution (for instance, 2.22.3.1), items
remained visible in that folder, even after they were read, until the
focus changed for the items list, e.g., until I navigated to the Sent
box.

In this version, as soon as I get the focus on this Search folder, if
the Preview pane is open, items appear in the Preview pane, the
corresponding message is marked "read", and immediately disappears from
the folder.

Needless to say, this makes the search folder in question quite
useless... :-(

Cheers,

Michel

[Bug 481778] Re: Evolution crashes when a new task is created and then its description is modified for the first time

2009-12-17 Thread marco.pallotta
Pedro,

I tryed this issue on Ubuntu 9.10 and it seems that the bug isn't present
anymore.
On 8.04 (at least in my installation) it's very annoying (in this situations
task are unusable) but I don't think Ubuntu developers could fix this on that
distro so, for me, the bug could be considered fixed.

I can confirm this bug in Ubuntu Karmic Koala.
In my case its much more serious - just pressing delete button, without shift

Very annoying! Maybe its not Nautilus - the same is happening on desktop,
without opening Nautilus.

[Bug 481576] Re: Action on critical battery is not triggered - gnome-power-manager

2009-12-17 Thread sten
I'm running Karmic, and am still experiencing this bug. I'll try
bumping the time_action and time_critical values to more conservative
settings, and will post an update soon. As I have an old battery, my
Thinkpad's critical power level is around 5%. Hibernate should occur at
4%, or 3% at the absolute lowest. A time-based value seems better for a
wider range of battery capacities, but the default 120 and 300 seconds
are just too low.

[Bug 498040] Re: evolution allows deletion of default views

2009-12-17 Thread Joe Lippl
I am the OP in the Ubuntu Forums thread Mr. Clayton refers to. To
reproduce:

Start Evolution and bring up the Calendar.

Go to menu: View / Current View / Define Views...

Click "New."

Decide which of the default views you're going to sacrifice for this
test, and give your custom view a name which will follow that one
alphabetically. Set the "Type of view" to whatever. Click "OK."

Highlight your new custom view in the list, and click "Delete."

Whichever default view was above the deleted view in the list is now
highlighted.

Now we encounter the bug, which is that the "Delete" button is still
active, when it should not be. Click "Delete" again, and you will delete
the highlighted default view.

I THINK that repeatedly clicking "Delete" at this point will continue to
delete default views, but I'm not going to test that!

I THINK that selecting one of the other default (non-deletable) views in
the list will "turn off" the bug until you create another custom view.

The control icon which normally would bring up the deleted default view
remains on the toolbar, but is now nonfunctional. You can, however,
still bring up that view in a less convenient fashion via the View menu.
Creating a new custom view with the missing default view's name does not
restore the icon's function; nor does reinstalling Evolution through
Synaptic. That is the extent of what I have been able to do.

Thanks!

[Bug 351482] Re: Re-adding network manager icon to top panel is undiscoverable due to naming of notifications panel

2009-12-17 Thread Brian
The notification area holds more than just the wireless icon (e.g.
volume indicator, bittorrent status information, etc). So, the name and
icon are correct for what the applet does.

Perhaps adding the name of the applet being removed to the "Remove from
Panel" menu item could be a solution?

e.g. "Remove 'Notification Area' from Panel"

This could be a generic solution that prevents this issue for all
applets.

[Bug 440465] Re: removing pulseaudio breaks sound control

2009-12-17 Thread Eddward
Sebastien can correct me if I'm wrong or out of line, but I don't think
the problem is that anyone is against having a check-box to switch off
pulse audio. The problem is that pulseaudio was developed or added in a
way that makes the actual work of enabling and disabling it a lot more
complicated than flipping a switch. Right now it actually involves
removing packages and perhaps build new ones that can be installed to
replace some of the removed ones. Looking at just the dependants of the
pulseaudio package shows that you'll need new non-pulseaudio dependent
versions of things like openjdk-6-jre (aka java) and even ubuntu-
desktop. On top of that you may need the dependents of openjdk-6-jre to
be modified to work with the non-pulseaudio dependent openjdk-6-jre.

It would be nice if a set of packages could be built to support running
with or without pulseaudio. It sounds like that is not a priority for
Ubuntu's developers. Maybe they would be willing to accept them if the
community provided it. At the very least it could live out in universe.
(I'm not sure if that's the right term for it.) Frankly, I've got the
impression that the way that Gnome or Pulseaudio are being developed
makes this more and more difficult, but I'm not sure about that.
Basically it sounds like making pulseaudio work for those users/hardware
for whom it can work requires a setup that completely breaks sound for
users/hardware for whom pulseaudio cannot or will not support. 'The
Perfect Pulse Audio Installation' provided by the pulseaudio developers
does not allow for a user to turn off pulseaudio. You could run
pasuspender but it will kill sound for everything that's been forced to
only support pulseaudio to work in 'The Perfect Pulse Audio
Installation'.

Related to a question I had on launch pad, I have started to investigate
what packages would need non-pulseaudio dependent versions to allow a
working system without pulseaudio enabled. I haven't pursued it much
yet because I'm not sure if the work will be welcomed by the devs or
not. Also any code contributions coming from me right now would have to
be considered legally encumbered. I can try to address that, but it has
the potential to cause me difficulties that I'm not will to risk unless
I know I won't be fighting against the Ubuntu devs. If the work is sure
to be rejected, I have other things to do. Swimming against the stream
is not a hobby of mine.

At a high level, I think the plan should be something like:

1. List dependants.
Build a tree of packages dependent on the pulseaudio related packages.
(dependants, dependants of dependants, etc) We can use the dependants field in
the deb files. It may not be right in all cases, but it's a start.

2. Drop pulseaudio dependant features and related packages.
Determine which of the dependant packages are just not needed if you are
not running pulseaudio. Pulseaudio is required for various sound related
feature that are 'bells & whistles' like bluetooth support. With pulseaudio
removed those features and the packages that implement them simply cannot work.

- Are there any packages that must be removed if pulseaudio is
to be disabled.

- If so could they be changed to not need to be removed? I
think the check-box solution gets more difficult as the list of packages
that is required to be removed when the check-box toggles grows. We
should make the list of packages that need to be removed because
pulseaudio is enable or disabled as small as possible.

3. Fix remaining dependants.
For each package that should be able to work without pulseaudio we need
to determine:

- Can the existing package work without pulseaudio?

- If so, would we be allowed to remove the dependency in the
deb file and put pulseaudio/no-pulseaudio configuration under control of
the check-box.

- Otherwise I guess we build an otherwise identical package.

- Can the package be modified to work both with and without
pulseaudio based on the check-box?

- Do we put a separate hybrid package in universe (or
somewhere)?

- Can we replace the current pulseaudio-only package with
the hybrid?

- Is is not possible to make at hybrid package? We do not want any of
these, but reality will always win.

- These packages will need to be removed and replaced when the
check-box toggled. Yuck!

- Or we just don't support them.

- Or we just remove what we have to when toggling and
require the user to manually replace them using a cookbook.

- Since the desktop package will probably need to be changed,
we won't need to switch between pulseaudio-only packages and hybrid
packages when toggling the check-box.

Again, this is just a plan I'm concocting on my own. I am not a Ubuntu
dev. I don't even have a lot of experience with Ubuntu. To my
knowledge I have nobody's blessing. I'm just

[Bug 498040] [NEW] evolution allows deletion of default views

2009-12-17 Thread David Clayton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When a custom view is created in Calendars-Views-Current View-Define
Views, you can then delete it from the list as the "Delete" option is
available (greyed out for the default views - as you would expect).

Unfortunately once you delete your custom view, the Delete option is
still active on a now selected default view, so you can now

[Bug 491521] Re: Decorations and RGBA

2009-12-17 Thread Dana Goyette
Speaking of Nautilus, I get some assertion failures, currently:

(nautilus:3021): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_window_set_back_pixmap: assertion
`pixmap == NULL || gdk_drawable_get_depth (window) ==
gdk_drawable_get_depth (pixmap)' failed

(nautilus:3021): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_type_instance_get_private:
assertion `instance != NULL && instance->g_class != NULL' failed

** (nautilus:3021): CRITICAL **: dbus_g_proxy_begin_call: assertion
`DBUS_IS_G_PROXY (proxy)' failed

While we're adding RGBA to Nautilus anyway, it would be nice to be able to use
the alpha channel in wallpapers -- both solid colors and images.

Occurred when I restarted Firefox, interestingly. Music just went flat

[Bug 498032] [NEW] CD drive does not refresh or update after burning without eject

2009-12-17 Thread Jonathan Blackhall
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

After burning a cd (with Brasero), the CD still shows up as "Blank CD-R
Disc". Ejecting the drive and re-inserting the same CD causes it to
show up as "Audio DIsc". I'm assuming that this is a Nautilus problem,
but if it's brasero (or something else) go ahead and change things.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Insert a blank CD-R into the CD-RW drive. Note that a "Blank CD-R Disc"
icon appears on your Desktop.
2. Open Brasero and burn an audio CD
2. When finished, close Brasero.
3. Note the "Blank CD-R Disc" icon is still on your desktop, even though this
is now an "Audio Disc". Attempting to double-click the icon opens a blank disc
burning window in Nautilus.
4. Eject the drive and re-insert the same disc. It should not show up as
"Audio Disc" and double-clicking on it will open the audio CD.

Expected result: When Brasero finishes burning a disc, the Nautilus
desktop icon should update to "Audio Disc" and double-clicking the
desktop icon should open the audio disc in a media player. An
acceptable (but less ideal) alternative would be if Brasero ejected the
disc automatically (and by default) after burning.

Please let me know if I can provide more information. Also, I'm adding
brasero to this bug report just in case. Feel free to mark this as
invalid if that's the case.

[Bug 293832] Re: printer prints page at wrong position, page cut

2009-12-17 Thread Till Kamppeter
I can suggest a possible fix for this problem. See comment #30 of
Poppler upstream bug #18711:

http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18711#c30

I patched Poppler to follow the suggestion there and at least I cannot
see a regression: My HP printers still print and Ghostscript displays
the files correctly on the screen.

A debdiff for Lucid's Poppler is attached. Please upload the new Poppler
package (we can remove the ptach later if it shows regressions).

To the reporters of the bug: Please try as soon as the new Poppler gets
available (use a Lucid live CD) and report whether it fixes your
problems.

[Bug 498011] [NEW] re-mounting a remote windows shared folder after a sleep fails

2009-12-17 Thread smyrno
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I found a bug which I think is in Nautilus, but concerning samba shared folders
and mounting.
Using Ubuntu 9.10, Nautilus 2.28.1.

how to reproduce the bug :
1/mount a shared folder : Network>Hostname>sharedFolder.
2/go into sleep mode : cuts wifi connection.
3/do the same thing as step 1 : click on sharedFolder.
4/ gedit opens, trying to display sharedFolder, and saying this cannot be
displayed.

I think that, due to the sleep period, the primarily mounted folder is unusable
(login or authentication required maybe timed out.?)
So, to access the remote folder, i have to remount it, which this leads to that
behavior with gedit when operating as described.
Unmounting the remote folder with the "eject" button before trying to remount
in step 3 works, and should automatically be executed.

[Bug 497994] [NEW] keyboard mouse checkbox set without user intervention in gnome-keyboard-properties

2009-12-17 Thread Paolo Benvenuto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Since hardy I experiment a tedious bug: after every upgrade or reboot I
have the keyboard that cannot enter numbers, and that depends on the
"control the mouse with numeric keypad" set in the keyboard mouse tab of
gnome-keyboard-properties.

That's quite annoying, because you must go and change that setting every
time!

[Bug 44082] Re: GNOME Panel icons (on right side) move apparently randomly on session start in some situations

2009-12-17 Thread Sebastien Bacher
one of the comments suggested escalading the issue to Canonical, you are
free to take a support contract and do that if you want, otherwise there
is no formal way to escalade the bug since Canonical employees are
pretty much free to decide on what issues they consider important enough
to work on. The bug described here might annoy some users but don't
conclude that it's an issue for everybody, I'm using GNOME since before
Ubuntu and I get some applets position changed maybe once a month, it's
a bit annoying but it takes a few seconds to fix and I don't consider
that as a showstopper bug, ie I'm not going to spend days on the gnome-
panel code to try to fix that bug but other people are free to do the
work if they really think it's important to get done for Ubuntu

[Bug 44082] Re: GNOME Panel icons (on right side) move apparently randomly on session start in some situations

2009-12-17 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Those comments are not really useful, if the bug is annoying and open
for 3 years it's perhaps because it's not as easy to fix that you think.
Now there is nobody in the Ubuntu team knowing the gnome-panel code,
everybody is really busy and learning gnome-panel code is a non trivial
task you should perhaps consider commenting upstream rather than there.

[Bug 405544] Re: Unable to burn CD or DVD with 2.6.31 kernel

2009-12-17 Thread Ron_
I agree that fixing this bug should be of high importance, since it is
currently impossibly to burn backup DVDs. See a parallel thread here:
http://swiss.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1327809&page=2 .

Add me to the list of folks who have trashed media trying up-to-date
versions of both Brasero and GnomeBaker on Ubuntu 9.10. I have a new
low-end HP desktop with a 16x DVD-/+RW drive, and I am using DVD-R
media. I am just trying to burn 1 large (4GB) file to a data DVD. I have
tried 16x and 4x. The message I get from both apps is:

** Tags added: karmic regression-release

** Summary changed:

- Laptop automatically suspends right after resume
+ Laptop automatically suspends right after resume if power cable was
disconnected before resuming

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: pm-utils

  I have a Macbook 2,1 running Ubuntu 9.10 (karmic) 64-bit. My laptop
sometimes automatically goes to sleep just a few seconds after waking
up. I don't know the reason of this behaviour and it is very hard to
find anything relevant in the logs. Such a behaviour happened today so
I'm attaching some logs. Look for Dec 4 19:50 - this is the beginning of
my first attempt of resuming from sleep.
+
+ Description update:
+ The most probable trigger to this bug is resuming from suspend while on
battery.
+ Steps to reproduce:
+ 1) Suspend your laptop with power cable plugged in

Same problem with Ubuntu Karmic - clicking the X doesn't close it, and

I'm running the latest from the repository, 2.29.3. I opened up the debug menu

[Bug 497532] Re: collapse/uncollapse icons in sidebar mail account list occasionally unresponsive

2009-12-17 Thread Ryan Nowakowski
Steps:
   1. setup 2 imap accounts (I'm using SSL on port 993 on one of them. I don't
know if this matters)
   2. try to collapse/uncollape the folder list in the sidebar using the left
mouse button on the triangle icon
   3. the folder list doesn't collapse/uncollapse <- this is the bug
   4. now, right click on that same collapse/uncollapse triangle icon (this
opens a popup menu)
   5. close the popup menu by left clicking somewhere else
   6. goto step 2 (it should work this time)

Steps 4-6 might provide some insight as to why it's broken.

[Bug 372608] Re: import failure: Invalid file format

2009-12-17 Thread Martin Meyer
In bug 397145 it was pointed out that importing your ssh keys happens
automatically if ~/.ssh/id_rsa and ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub are both present.
Did you maybe rename your public key file? That was what make the SSH
agent stuff not work on my system. I haven't tested, but I suspect that
key importing might fail if the public key file isn't present as well.
Is that's your problem maybe?

2009-12-17 Thread Sense Hofstede
Thank you for helping with making Ubuntu better by reporting this bug.
This is most likely an issue with GVFS and I'm marking it as such. However, we
do need some extra information before we can pass this bug report on to the
developers.
What devices are you using? Does the bug occur every time you try to move a
file from a non-regular(for gvfs) location to an obex:/// location? Any extra
information about the circumstances would be very useful as well.
Thanks in advance.

[Bug 497891] Re: I can not find usb memory stick in system

2009-12-17 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 497892 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/497892

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!
