[Bug 386000] Re: Add option to use latest status on startup
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut should be a small usability issue, in the default Ubuntu install, that affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't be addressed as part of this project. - A feature request is not a papercut. For further information about papercuts criteria, please read https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut. Don't worry though, this bug has been marked as "Invalid" only in the papercuts project. ** Changed in: hundredpapercuts Status: New => Invalid -- Add option to use latest status on startup https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/386000 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to empathy in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 502839] [NEW] I cannot remove "app icons (favorites)" shown on my desktop
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel Hello, I'm currently using Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala, and have synaptic 0.62.5. Now, the problem I'm experiencing is that once I log in, there are pile of icons with "favorite " at the top of it. This bothers me, because when I click something else on the desktop, nothing happens, It's like it disables other functions. All I want, is to get rid of the "favorites" and work normally on the desktop as it was when it I first installed Linux. PS. sent you a screen shot to understand me better. ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- I cannot remove "app icons (favorites)" shown on my desktop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/502839 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 502838] [NEW] gdm starts too early, races with KMS, X.org/VTs fail
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm Since the gdm upstart rule was changed to start very early (graphics- device-added fb0 or drm-device-added card0), I only get a working startup in about one out of ten cases: (1) standard 80x25 VT appears for some seconds (2) KMS gets switched on, and I see a big text VT for a fraction of a second (3) X.org starts up But in 9 out of 10 cases I just see (1), then lots of flickering, and eventually an X.org "low graphics" dialog (which is utterly distorted when the laptop runs standalone with internal screen, and looks fine when I have the external screen attached, for some curious reason). In this case the VTs are broken as well ("frequency not supported" monitor message, and otherwise black). It seems that KMS and X.org start at roughly the same time, and thus fight each other. I can't really see anything else that seems wrong in the strace log; the issue is probably not in reading the file data, but some parsing/interpretation of some data in the file. [Bug 486154] Re: System beep broken in Karmic despite heroic efforts to fix it
> Confirmed---your patch fixes the issue. Good to hear! > Strictly speaking, I don't think you need part 3 of your patch I this is correct. Part 3 only re-enables the gconf /apps/metacity/general/audible_bell key to turn the bell on and off. Whether metacity *should* have a key to do this, I don't know. But given that it *does* have this key, I think we ought to make it work. Also, I suspect that, without change #3, if this key is set to false when metacity starts, metacity will trap audible bells irrevocably. (I suspect meta_prefs_bell_is_audible() will return False, causing the last argument of XkbChangeEnabledControls() to be 0, which we know will trap the audible bells. But at this point, I don't feel like risking breaking things again to check this hunch.) > I suspect somebody should open a bug upstream, I was going to wait a few days to see if WeatherGod can scare up someone from Ubuntu to comment on this patch. I suspect that we'd get a better reception from the Metacity people if we can show this is desired by the Ubuntu project, rather than just a few random cranky users. I followed Phil's lead and tried the mainline generic packages at http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.32.2/ as well. I am happy to report that I can write DVD's again with wodim and Brasero. There are still some strange things occuring, though: before the write, the writer acts funny, making the same cycle of 'spin/move laser/spin again' noises as it did before when it refused to write at all. After the write has completed, the noise cycle begins again until I manually eject the disc. Despite this, the disc is written correctly, as far as Linux or I can tell. (mounts, can read files from it, can umount and eject). 95% solved. Let's keep this going. :d -- Unable to burn CD or DVD with 2.6.31 kernel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/405544 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 444300] Re: gThumb doesn't import images
I see this problem too. It is a regression from Jaunty. I had 2 Jaunty and 1 Fedora (F9/10?) systems where gthumb import worked correctly. I upgraded the Jaunty systems and re-installed the Fedora system. All systems now have this issue. In my case at least, I found this problem was caused by the presence of .MOV (movie) files on the SD card. I deleted them, and gthumb import worked. I'm not sure if this issue is triggered by a) any non-JPG file, b) MOVs specifically c) some facet/subset of unsupported image formats. Note that MOV files from the exact same camera/SD-card/card-reader worked OK in Jaunty. "strace -f" of "gthumb --import-photos" indicates that gthumb (or a library it uses) is performing some operation to search the Ubuntu installation for some kind of file (IIRC a language pack?) after stat()/open()ing the .MOV file. I'm not sure if this is a bug in gthumb (or some lib it uses) or perhaps some package it depends on simply isn't installed? -- gThumb doesn't import images https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/444300 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gthumb in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 413360] Re: Pango text select with double click stops at underscore.
Thanks, James. I've enjoyed using it just while writing it, and I'm still experimenting with different configurations for my own use. I will be putting up a new version sometime soon that let's you associate configurations with code languages. For example, I currently have my quintuple-click set to select a Python function, but on any other kind of code I would want that to select something else. Thanks for the plugin recommendation. I've been using a similar plugin called Tag Browser, but I just tried out Class Browser, and it does seem to be just a little better. Tag Browser doesn't show attributes in the tree, for one thing. [Bug 502808] [NEW] USB drive opens in foreground window without focus
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus I'm using Nautilus 2.28.1 on Ubuntu Karmic. When I attach my external USB drive, Nautilus automatically opens up a window displaying its contents. The problem is that the window opens in the foreground but doesn't have focus. I mostly use the keyboard, so when I don't want the window I automatically hit alt-f4, but instead of closing the new window it closes whatever window I was working in before. This happens frequently and is really annoying. [Bug 500570] Re: Appearance "Visual Effects" settings lost across reboots
This is most definitely NOT a regression of 430981. /desktop/gnome/session/required_components/windowmanager is set correctly both before and after the reboot. After a reboot I can fix the problem (which manifests as missing key bindings and also windows are missing the title bar and the menu overlaps the panel at the top of the screen - weird). I can temporarily "fix" the problem by setting "Visual Effects" to "Normal" (they show as "None" after a reboot), but then after the next reboot I have the same problem. If I set "Visual Effects" back to "None" after fixing the problem windows display normally (without the compiz enhancements), but the problem always returns after a reboot. I have found that ~/.gconfd/saved_state gets rewritten with some line diffs (I've attached a *.bad1 and *.good1 to show the file before and after fixing the problem in Appearance Preferences), but across reboots instead of a few line differences the entire file seems to be changed, so maybe this is not part of the problem. If anyone has some ideas for what to look for I would appreciate it. Thanks. ** Attachment added: "saved_state-bad-good.tar.gz" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/37395929/saved_state-bad-good.tar.gz -- Appearance "Visual Effects" settings lost across reboots https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/500570 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-session in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I'll confirm that I get the problem with "vinagre" in Karmic as well. It happens if you hit a menu item immediately after starting the first remote session. [Bug 469172] Re: Gnome games - sol / Aislerot Solitaire has a huge memory leak
Bugs 465317 and 444518 discuss the same occurrence as a possible bug in x-org with Intel video. I can't tell whether there is a bug or inefficiency in the AisleRiot software which needs to be corrected or if there is just a behavior that quickly exposes a bug in xorg. In any case, xorg should not crash, so it definitely needs to be investigated there. Also, in my case anyway, there is plenty of physical memory which is not in use by programs, but most or all of the rest is used by the OS as cache. That should be reclaimed whenever a program needs more memory, but apparently that is not happening. -- Gnome games - sol / Aislerot Solitaire has a huge memory leak https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/469172 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

pulse AND alsa both come installed and thats the problem. they conflict, and cause a LOT of problems. try this , my personal mix. should work like a charm. you can reverse this method to keep pulse if you like . but i think this method is pretty good almost willing to bet fix all sound issues in karmic, unless hardware completely doesnt support it, like SIS graphics could reverse the process to keep pulse if you wanted software conflict, this should fix it since this is a microsoft, i mean software conflict problem, you should be able to use this method on all karmic install no matter what your hardware is. if not, i would suggest backing up your info and starting from the top. again tho, you shouldnt have to. any pakages you already have shouldnt affect the script either, or your install. restores all sound including system sounds. also stops freezing issues that happened when adjusting audio settings. [Bug 502737] [NEW] gnome-keybinding-properties: Can't change Mod4+M keybinding when visual effects are enabled
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center Hi!, When Visual Effects (system->preferences->appearance) is activated,i.e. "normal" or "extra", then the Mod4+M keybinding is used by the graphical compositor to switch to a high contrast theme. The problem is this "show high contrast theme" keybinding does not show up in gnome-keybinding-properties so I can edit and assign it a new key so the mod4+M key is free to be used by other keybindings. The graphical compositor has already some actions showing up in gnome- keybinding-properties, like the "Expo key" keybinding, used to show a cute perspective of the virtual desktops, so the fix for this bug would be to also include the keybinding for the "show high contrast theme" action, that currently is hardcoded to mod4+M . [Bug 499337] Re: gdm doesn't re-login after logout when autologin and timedlogin are enabled Karmic 9.10
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 494296 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/494296 Hi, This is not a duplicate of the other bug. The behaviour described in the other occurs upon shutdown and reboot, and is clearly a "bug". My report is related to logout/auto-relogin behaviour which I think may be "by design" (but a design feature which I think is not providing expected behaviour). Could you please re-read my report, and remove the duplicate status Regards, Bernie -- gdm doesn't re-login after logout when autologin and timedlogin are enabled Karmic 9.10 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/499337 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
