[Bug 181244] Re: libcdio GPL/license violation
I'm attaching the current debian/copyright file that is currently included in lucid's libcdio10 package. While it does not show the license change (which needs to be handled upstream), it does state: - Joerg Schilling as one of the copyright holders - the license is GPLv3 or later. indeed the copyright file of lucid's package gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly claims that the package was distributed under LGPL, which is problematic AFAIUI. ** Attachment added: "copyright" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/37874333/copyright ** Package changed: libcdio (Ubuntu) => gst-plugins-ugly0.10 (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: gst-plugins-ugly0.10 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => High ** Changed in: gst-plugins-ugly0.10 (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Triaged -- libcdio GPL/license violation https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/181244 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gst-plugins-ugly0.10 in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 181244] [NEW] libcdio GPL/license violation
You have been subscribed to a public bug: There are two serious problems with libcdio: 1) The license text has been changed from "GPL v2 only" to "GPLv2 or any later" without permission from the real Authors ofthe code the library is based on. 2) libcdio is GPL but is is called from libgstreamer (being LGPL) GPL and LGPL are not compatible. GPL code may not be called from non-GPL code. The LGPL allows to "solve" the conflict between GPL and LGPL by giving the permission to relicense the LGPL code under GPL. While this may work for a small project, it is not an applicable solution for an OS distribution as libgstreamer would then be 100% GPL only on Ubuntu. BTW: This license problem has been discovered by Sun lawyers. Sun did already remove libcdio from Solaris Expresss. ** Affects: gst-plugins-ugly0.10 (Ubuntu) Importance: High Status: Triaged -- libcdio GPL/license violation https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/181244 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gst-plugins-ugly0.10 in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 506517] Re: Doesnot display correct icon for apple ipod nano 2nd generation.
This is a bug in gvfs , as it should have a fallback icon even if the themes dont have an icon for the specific device. Note that , if humanity does not have an icon for nano then gvfs should display the icon from gnome or should have had an icon on its own as a fallback. This is probably a small error in the icon name mentioned in gvfs itself. Since there is no such icon name in either humanity , gnome icon theme or even in gvfs , the image-missing icon is displayed. This bug is an upstream one and it would be quite helpful if somebody experiencing it could send the bug the to the people writing the software. You can learn more about how to do this for various upstreams at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream. Once submitted upstream , do report back with the upstream bug number here. [Bug 432835] Re: [Karmic] Brightness Buttson OSD Test Acer Aspire 5810-4657
I've got stock kernel 2.6.32.3 and Debian (not Ubuntu), so all this FWIW. On my 5810TZ, xrandr --prop does not show BACKLIGHT_CONTROL. Backlight keys do not work, but when booting *without* nomodeset (some posts on the Internets suggest that "nomodeset acpi_backlight=vendor" fixes this, but for me it doesn't), it does show "Backlight" and "BACKLIGHT" (if booting *with* acpi_backlight=vendor, even these settings disappear): $ xrandr --prop Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1366 x 768, maximum 8192 x 8192 VGA1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) LVDS1 connected 1366x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 345mm x 194mm EDID: 000030e40202 00130103802313780a28659759548e27 1e50540001010101010101010101 010101010101561d56c6500020303020 350059c21019 00fe004c 4720446973706c61790a202000fc 004c503135365748332d544c41310039 BACKLIGHT: 3 (0x0003) range: (0,9) Backlight: 3 (0x0003) range: (0,9) scaling mode: Full supported: None Full Center Full aspect 1366x768 60.0*+ 1360x768 59.8 1024x768 60.0 800x60060.3 640x48059.9 HDMI1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) Doing "xrandr --output LVDS1 --set Backlight 5" (or whatever number from 0..9) doesn't seem to change anything, but I noticed by accident that after setting the value using that command, pressing the backlight setting keys on the keyboard (Fn+arrow keys) sets then the backlight to the brightness set with xrandr. [Bug 507264] [NEW] Choppy/Freezing H.264 Encoded Video Playback
Public bug reported: I have encountered this problem over the past two months. Any mvk wrapped video that uses the FFmpeg H.264 codec is choppy in Totem movie player and in VLC media player. Mplayer will play the files but (displays a system too slow message) after some time will cause the whole computer to freez including the mouse pointer. If you let it sit for about a minute the computer will reboot itself to recover from the crash. VLC seems to handle the videos the best but also freezes the computer like Mplayer. Mplayer and totem max out one of my CPU cores. VLC does not but can be pixelated, out of sync, or freezes up the computer. You can use any 780i or higher resolution HD video encoded with H.264 as a sample file. As long as I don't play mvk files I have no freezing problems with this machine under Ubuntu for weeks at a time. Let me know if you need more details. A.J. I have tried reproducing this in Lucid without any problems, following your instructions and using the video. Are you able to? This may be a driver-specific issue. If this is a problem in Lucid, please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal: apport-collect -p xorg 158259 This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability to "Change Non-Private" data as it will be adding information to your bug report. ** Changed in: metacity (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete ** Changed in: mutter (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- wide windows have messed up window decoration https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/158259 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 507189] Re: Mahjongg: 3 pairs of same tile, w/screenshot
Out of curiosity, I replayed the same seed while checking off the tiles on the postmodern.svg in gimp to determine which non-blue non-gold tile was skipped, and it was the green character after the red Zhong (中), which only appeared in one pair. The blue winter tiles appeared as only one of each 1 2 3 4. The gold summer tiles appeared as: 1, 2, 3, 3, 4, 4. I realize this is likely trivial, and that it may not be a bug at all and just a rare random result of the drawing algorithm, but I felt it might be of interest to some. -- Mahjongg: 3 pairs of same tile, w/screenshot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/507189 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-games in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 489824] Re: power manager icon on system tray doesn't indicate battery status correctly
Hello all, This is the same that happens to me. In particular: When I switch on my computer using only the battery, the Battery monitor on the tray is showing ALWAYS that the battery is fully charged. However, making a simple click onto the monitor icon, it shows a popup with the actual percentage of remaining battery. In this situation, if I do not verify frequently the remaining power, the computer just runs out of battery and halts abruptly. When restarting, I had to fscheck the filesystems. This is very dangerous. However, I found a "trick" while this issue is not successfully addressed. All this changes when I simply connect the PC to the power (just less than a second) and the monitor changes: * A popup shows that the the battery is discharging, as well as the remaining battery percentage and the time. * The tray icon is showing that the battery is discharging. * The popup information when click the icon remains the same than before. In this situation, the battery monitor shows 2 alerts: the first one some time before running out of battery (about 9% of battery) and the second one when only 1-2% of battery remains. In both cases, the popup alert shows correctly the percentage of battery, but do not show the proper remaining time (just "unknown remaining time" or so). In contrast, in this case, the computer switch off normally (as I have set up in the settings). All these problems appeared when upgrading to Karmic. In the previous ubuntu release, all worked really fine. It's strange. When I have the PDF with the BLACK background opened, all the other "normal" pdf's from my MySQL course get completely black. However, if I try opening some other pdfs like the one Sebastian posted right here, the problem doesn't occur. This leads me to think that there might be something strange within the pdfs of my course. [Bug 499754] Re: I can not edit menu entries in alacarte at random - Ubuntu Lucid (10.04)
I managed to fix it. I downloaded a new alacarte source package and compiled the source code myself. I can now edit any menu entry in alacarte. If anyone needs to fix alacarte in Ubuntu Lucid (alpha 1) (gnome- desktop), because you are unable to edit the entries in the gnome menu, see below. I got alacarte from gnome 2.29.4 - alacarte version 0.12.4 found here: http://www.icewalkers.com/download/GNOME/1075/dld/ I think the dependencies were intltool and libgnome-menu-dev (when you run ./configure it will tell you) ./configure make sudo make install you might need to reboot the system, if not log out and back in again. Also, I was advised that *.desktop files are not present in the ~/.local/share/applications folder by default, so I am mistaken about that part in my earlier post. Probable Bug Solution: I think alacarte needs to be recompiled for i386 desktop (Lucid alpha 1) before alpha 2 is released. [Bug 507139] [NEW] Evince prints parts it should not.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evince In the UK the Royal Mail allows consumers to purchase and print postage online. The website returns a PDF document which should be printed onto the envelope or onto plain paper and pasted to the envelope. The PDF documents has the words "Sample will not appear when printed" across it. When I use MS Windows, the PDF prints without this message (as it should). However, if I use Linux and evince to print, the words unfortunately do show up on the finished envelope.
