Ugh, even then it's not recommended... Don't open RAW files straight in
GIMP from F-Spot... There's a good chance F-Spot won't import them back
right again.

[Bug 468371] Re: Rhythmbox crashes towards end of midi file

2010-02-04 Thread Pilot_51
I have this same problem. When I have MIDI files in my playlist,
Rhythmbox asks to search for a suitable plugin (audio/riff-midi) and
doesn't find any. MIDI files still play fine, it's only when switching
directly from one MIDI file to another that it crashes. I can switch
from a MIDI file to an MP3 or OGG file and back to a MIDI file without
it crashing. It's not much of a deal with my large randomized playlist
of 99% non-MIDI files, but still an annoyance when I want to
specifically listen to more than one MIDI file.

I haven't used Rhythmbox much until recently, so I don't know how long
this issue has been around. I have Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic (kernel 2.6.31-19)
with packages up-to-date.

[Bug 517399] [NEW] shares-admin does not allow per-share access rules

2010-02-04 Thread Twisted Lincoln, Inc.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

shares-admin does not currently allow the restricting of a share to a
set of specific users. While you can restrict global share access to
users on the list via the "users" tab, there is no way to set certain
shares as accessible only to certain users.

On a related front, you can also not set individual shares as hidden (ie
not browsable unless you go directly to their path).

system-config-samba can do both of these things easily, so shares-admin
should be able to also.

[Bug 413015] Re: Fails to play video with multiple subtitles

2010-02-04 Thread Twisted Lincoln, Inc.
This does not appear to be fixed upstream. I have the exact same issue
using Totem in Karmic. I also tried using the version of Totem from
karmic-updates, but the issue persists.

When launching Totem from a terminal, I get the following error when
trying to play the file:

** Message: Error: Can't display both text subtitles and subpictures.
gstplaysink.c(2175): gst_play_sink_reconfigure ():
/GstPlayBin2:play/GstPlaySink:playsink0:

The file in question was an MKV, just like the original poster. When I
remove one of the subtitle tracks using mkvtools (remuxing with only one
subtitle track), the video plays fine.

[Bug 197762] Re: file transfers on USB flash key (pendrive) are slowing down with time

2010-02-04 Thread tonyo
I have this problem too. HP Pavilion (Core 2 Quad, 3 GB RAM,
2.6.31-17-generic x86_64)

I was unable to use dd to write a memstick image to a Sandisk USB stick.
It was crawling to a virtual stop before reaching 40% complete. I hope
my observations will help to solve this problem.

My first observation was that I could use dstat output to anticipate the
slow down and then press "Ctrl-Z" to suspend the dd so that the write
buffers could drain. Carefully nursing the transfer along resulted in a
successful and quick copy.

My other observation was that I could work around this problem using the
"oflag=direct" option to dd, which presumably bypasses the lazy write
buffering.

# dd if=sandisku3.dd of=/dev/sdh bs=256k oflag=direct
7839+1 records in
7839+1 records out
2055021056 bytes (2.1 GB) copied, 217.913 s, 9.4 MB/s

I think these observations suggest that the extremely high write backlog
(over 700MB "Dirty" in /proc/meminfo) causes a performance fall-over
when available memory resources become exhausted.

[Bug 507739] Re: Widget names not set when using GtkBuilder

2010-02-04 Thread Martin Pitt
** Description changed:

LottaNZB cannot be launched on an up-to-date Lucid machine because of a
bug in GtkBuilder. I tracked down the problem:

When loading a XML UI file using GtkBuilder, the 'name' property of
widgets isn't set. On the other hand, the 'name' property of 'GtkAction'
  objects is properly set.

A test case written in both Python and C is attached. Compare the output
on a Karmic and a Lucid machine.

I'm pretty sure that LottaNZB worked about a week ago, when I initially
installed Lucid. This means that the bug could have been introduced in a
  recent update.

Please try to obtain a backtrace manually following the instructions at

[Bug 508546] Re: Rhythmbox not allowing 16-character lastfm password

2010-02-04 Thread Eric Partlo
Hi Esme,

You can choose where to save the logfile. Let me explain the command
that Pedro is having you run: "rhythmbox -D lastfm --debug &> rhythmbox-
debug.txt"

Breaking it down "rhythmbox" is the name of the program you are going to
start from the terminal, "-D" is an argument that allows debugging for
the rhythmbox program "lastfm" is a string for the debugger to run, "&>"
writes the debug results to a file, "rhythmbox-debug.txt" is the name of
the file you are writing.

Now lets change the location of the file. Like Pedro said when you
execute this command it will write this file in your current directory.
In this case you can find out the directory this will be in by typing
"pwd". As an example lets change this to the desktop "rhythmbox -D
lastfm --debug &> /home/esme/Desktop/rhythmbox-debug.txt" I am assuming
that you have an account "esme" if you have a different name for your
account you will need to change this part. Also you can name the file
whatever you would like Pedro came up with "rhythbox-debug.txt" which is
a good descriptive name for the file.

[Bug 517225] Re: error installing updates cannot install

2010-02-04 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

[Bug 517306] [NEW] emails move to delete folder in error

2010-02-04 Thread beginner uk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I have just started using Ubuntu 9.10.
I have a problem in Evolution when moving emails from the 'inbox' folder to
another folder.
This is what I do :-
I right click on an email, then in the dropdown menu, I click on 'move to
folder',
then I select a folder in the little window with the list of folders and then
click on 'move'.
It seems that the emails have gone to the new folder.

But by chance, I have later found that many of the moved emails were in the
'delete' folder !
That was not the folder into which they were moved !
What do I need to do to rectify this problem?
Your help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
