[Bug 519495] [NEW] palimpsest (gnome-disk-utility) cannot create JFS partitions

2010-02-09 Thread Huygens
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-disk-utility

I was trying to use palimpsest from the gnome-disk-utility package to create a
JFS partitions on my external hard drive. However, palimpsest does not offer
JFS for filesystem. It offers ext2-4, XFS, FAT, NTFS and some other uncommon
filesystems like the one for BeOS!
I had to install gparted to format my drive in JFS!

Note: during Ubuntu installation, it is possible to choose JFS, which is
my default filesystem for / and /home. It is thus even more surprising
that palimpsest does not offer this possibility.

The expected behaviour:
I should be able to choose the same list of filesystem with palimpsest than the
ones offered during Ubuntu installation (so including JFS) + a few others of
course like NTFS, FAT, etc.

[Bug 519494] [NEW] 'Send packed in' receives focus instead of recipient field

I'm using stock packages in Ubuntu 9.10, and when I click 'Send to...'

[Bug 432794] Re: gnome-panel freeze/infinite loop/memory leak

2010-02-09 Thread David Korn
I too am having this same issue. My situation may echo comment #17
(auto-hide on bottom triggers?) and #15 (generally hosed OS after
onset). For me it started at the next boot after I had created an
always-on-top panel at the bottom and also an auto-hide panel at the
bottom. (rationale side note: This was to give me my always-want-to-see
status info and allow my occasionally-want-to-see menus to overlay that
so as to conserve desktop real estate.) My configuration worked fine
for me during the session I created it, that is, for perhaps an hour
after making the settings. The next time I booted in, gnome-panel
deadlocks a CPU and consumes all 4GB memory, same as the OP stated.

I had skype installed, but have removed it after other commentators
raised suspicions. That alone hasn't helped. I also have a hibernated
NTFS partition, as mentioned in comment #12.

Not sure it's relevant, but I do have a cairo-dock on that same bottom
desktop area, meaning the two seem to compete for focus and painting,
but it appeared to run fine until this bug started.

I'm a linux noob, and am having some challenge following
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash while my OS is in its
currently hosed state. Are more backtraces still needed?

Personally, I would just get rid of the status icon that indicates a
blanking problem. It seems to appear when there isn't really an issue
(eg, if gpm is not on the active console) If there is a real issue with
display blanking, users will notice it anyway and report a bug. The
message is misleading and not applicable in Ubuntu, as we carry the
patches referred to in the linked blog anyway

[Bug 519480] [NEW] Gnome Disk Utility generated a 17g .xsession-errors file when a bad dirve was detected and investigated

2010-02-09 Thread John Hall
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-disk-utility

Gnome disk utility found a failing disk through SMART. Launching the utility
generated so many xsession errors that it made a disk filling .xsession-errors
file in the active user's home directory. In this case over 17g
In this case the home directory was not stored on the failing drive but this
should be fixed because it could cause a failing drive to fail further. If
there is not a separate /home mount point and no disk quotas a full disk can
nearly disable the system.

The drive was part of an array. After the drive was removed and the array was
rebuilt the disk utility was no longer triggered and the .xsession-errors file
which was very quickly over 17g stopped being generated.
While I did not retain the large file i could get further information from the
"empty" blocks of that drive.
If interested I can mount /home with quotas and reproduce the problem but
generate a smaller file.

As a side note this has a confluence with ext4 quirks. The file system
was ext4 and disk space was not reclaimed by a simple rm but was
reclaimed after a reboot. Restarting gnome did not help.

I think a bug should be raised of priority when it start to flood the bug

Actually, my nightmare are about me, learning C+ at a suffisent level to

increase the bug priority.

There is a second GtkStatusIcon only shown when the display server is

then I'm asked for a password (as it should be). So obviously it is

[Bug 11334] Re: MASTER Copy-Paste doesn't work if the source is closed before the paste

2010-02-09 Thread LimCore
This is crazy, this bug has 45 people that take time to go to LP and click
affects-me-too,
it has a dozen of duplicates,
it is one of most reported bug I seen, and yet it is just Wishlist priority?!

Ubuntu fails to provide most basic functionality expected from a desktop
since windows 3.11...

For 5 years now! Wow.

Firefox will not run *at all* on my computer, currently. I don't know
what happened. Yesterday, it worked fine>no updates--->today it
won't run. I tried running from terminal, and got the above error. I
cannot get firefox to run. I had to install midori, just to search for

I've just found an interesting information: all web sites with Japanese
characters (encoding "EUC-JP") on their "title" tag make the bug to
occur on my machine. That is the reason why the website
also makes my "window list applet"
buggy. An easy and fast way to see the bug is to visit Japanese pages on
Wikipedia :

http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portal:%E6%97%A5%E6%9C%AC

>Also, when I closed the .pdf, the windows list returned to two rows. Is
this happening for you as well?

Yes, and also with web sites when I close the browser tab.

since i know my system is hosed and it's not a greater widespread bug, i

[Bug 517777] Re: Nautilus folder manager generates random colors in folder background when folders are opened.

2010-02-09 Thread Draycen DeCator
Swampy, thank you for letting us know about this temporary workaround. I
will add it to the description so anyone else who encounters this bug
will be able to see it more easily.

** Description changed:

Dell Mini 10v 1GB with Ubuntu/8.04 (hardy) Dell version.

- Here are your: (At a minimum needs asked for in your email):
+ Steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem,
+ 1. Open Nautilus
+ 2. Open a folder (any folder)

- 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
- Answer:
- I have taken ABSOLUTELY NO STEPS TO CAUSE me to encounter this problem!! I
just opened a folder with Nautilus and this problem occured.
+ Behavior you expected:
+ The background of Nautilus would remain the same, as set by the system
default or theme

- 2. the behavior you expected:
- Answer:
- I expect the folder background color to remain the white color that is system
default color which is white when I open any folder!!!
-
- 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible):
- Answer:
+ Observed behavior:
When a user opens any folder on the desktop the folder background (or
wallpaper) changes color frequently from from the (system default of white) to
any color in the spectrum including black and upon repeated openings of any
affected folder the color will not be the (system default of white) using
Ubuntu/8.04 (hardy) Dell version.

- Since my previous report seemed to confuse you or you did not understand
- itI I have summarized and answered your questions as outlined in your
- email to the best of my ability as a NEW USER of Ubuntu /8.04 (hardy)
- system software! If this information is not in the technical format you
- prefer or is not good enough somehow I do not know how else to help you!
+ Temporary workaround:
+ Switch Nautilus to "List" view. You should then be able to switch back to
"Icons" view and the background should be right. However, this will only work
for the one instance.

That means that there's no recognized file system on that device at
all. Therefore this looks like quite a different symptom to the
original report here. Can you mount this with

  sudo mount /dev/mmcblk0 /mnt

?

Does this path even exist for you then?

[Bug 200852] Re: cannot open forwarded email attachment

2010-02-09 Thread Ghilteras
I can still confirm this bug on karmic 9.10 with evolution 2.28.1

I simply create a new message and attach another mail to it, if i try to
open that attachment it does that by default with gedit and of course
it's not readable, the same happens of course if i receive a mail with
attached another mail. i dont understand why i cant simply open the
attached mail with evolution itself

[Bug 497857] Re: Support application indicators

2010-02-09 Thread Travis B. Hartwell
Note:
As agreed on with jcastro, this only supports showing green when plenty of time
before locked -> showing red right before -> locking.

The original behavior shows gradients of green as time progresses and
then flashing red right before locking, then red when locked.

[Bug 519323] Re: unknown error prevents modifying

2010-02-09 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
Hey, thanks for unveiling that bug! That comes from missing lines in the
D-Bus configuration file that prevented the groups module from owning
the right name. users-admin was not able to contact it, leading to a
timeout error after a few seconds.

I've committed a fix in the system-tools-backends upstream, it will be
available with the next upload to Lucid. Please do continue testing
users-admin and reporting bugs in it!

[Bug 442298] Re: frequent disconnects from jabber server

2010-02-09 Thread om26er
we have been wondering if this is still an issue for you. If any one is
facing issue. remove all empathy accounts and quit empathy then remove
~/.config/Empathy ~/.gconf/empathy and ~/.mission-control and reboot
system and start empathy again and see if that solves the issue. If the
problem still exists please use the telepathy ppa
https://launchpad.net/~telepathy/+archive/ppa to install latest version
of empathy. If that does not solve the problem then we will send this
problem to the upstream developers. Thanks in Advance
