[Bug 529358] [NEW] Not able to hear the audio sound from the computer

2010-02-27 Thread Rao Y
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I just installed the latest version, Ubuntu 9.10 and also did the live
update and restarted the computer. When I put Audio CD, the system asked
to select which player to play the CD, then I selected Rhythmbox. (I
have the version of Rhythmbox 0.12.5). Then I selected track and click
play, it is playing the CD track, but no sound from the speakers. It is
not showing any error, then I tried the radio, but the audio problem is
same, no sound.

[Bug 526898] Re: Slow to release wireless lock in auto-login sessions

2010-02-27 Thread Vish
Sorry for the confusion.
This is not a bug in either gnome-keyring or network manager.

I had started using transmission recently , and since it was among my
startup [auto-launch] apps, transmission would start fast and begin
using the bandwidth _completely_ , not allowing any other app to gain
access to the network.

Once i removed transmission from the startup items , this problem was
solved.

2010-02-27 Thread Erik B. Andersen
This is a video (from the first user) of the crash. When the user
switching applet is blinking focus, I was logged into the other user.
When the whole screen flashes black for a split second is when I had
finished switching back to the first user.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: totem

- I got this error by

end of the song too soon)

[Bug 12040] Re: GNOME "Main Menu" panel applet slow to open on first click (NOT compiz related)

2010-02-27 Thread Karl Martin
After switching my hard disk to a solid state disk (Intel X-25M G2) this
bug disappeared. This supports the assumption that the delay is caused
by accessing lots of files on the hard disk as a task like this benefits
considerably from the low access times of a solid state disk.

I am changing this bug task to "linux" as it is a sound related issue,
not an nautilus issue.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it without more information. Would you
please add the information requested from the "Reporting Sound Bugs" section of

are running using Jaunty or Karmic, please run the command apport-collect -p

[Bug 527436] Re: g-p-m's brightness control doesn't work on Thinkpad T60

2010-02-27 Thread Tom Gelinas
I confirm this bug on my thinkpad T510.
A workaround is to change brightness in text-mode VT (ie. crtl+alt+f1, change
brightness, ctrl+alt+f7 to switch back to X.)

The lack of OSD is a new development since 26/02, I think it requires a
separate bug report.

[Bug 483957] Re: Gimp freezes with Drop Shadow, crashes system, need power down

2010-02-27 Thread Hephaestus Malleus
I am using GIMP v2.6.7-1ubuntu1.1 on Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic (kernel:
2.6.31-19-generic). I have found that GIMP will completely lock up the
computer when a user uses processor-intensive tools, such as the
Gradient and Path tools. Zooming into the picture seems to cause the
computer to freeze as well. Does GIMP have a log that can be checked if
crashes occur?

not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you

[Bug 529303] [NEW] Printing multiple images does not work

2010-02-27 Thread Pedro Côrte-Real
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eog

When eog is used to open several images at a time it will not print them
all at once. To reproduce this:

1. Open two images with eog

$eog img1.jpg img2.jpg

2. File->Print
3. Print Preview

The result is a print preview of only the single image in one sheet.
There should be a setting somewhere to print all images and not just the
one previously selected. The "Range" options are confusing because they
seem to indicate this will happen, even though they are greyed out.
Gnumeric solves a similar problem nicely by creating an extra tab in the
print dialog called "Gnumeric Print Range". In there it is possible to
set printing for only some workbook sheets, all of them, just the active
ones, etc.

I came across this bug while trying to use eog to make a single pdf file
of a bunch of scans of photos. I ended up giving up and using "convert"
on the command line.

Architecture: amd64

[Bug 529276] Re: gnome-volume-control-applet does not run at startup

2010-02-27 Thread Rocko
OK, it seems that the volume and bluetooth indicators in Lucid now
appear in the indicator applet, not in the notification area applet.
This is a pain because (a) the network etc indicators appear in the
notification area, so now you need both the notification area and the
indicator applet, and (b) I don't want the indicator applet to appear in
any case. It has an indicator for Evolution mail that I don't want and
can't figure out how to get rid of.

Is there a way to configure what appears in the notification area and
indicator applets so I can select the notifications I want?

[Bug 529282] Re: gnome-display-properties does not work if you install nvidia-current

2010-02-27 Thread Rocko
(1) To reproduce this:

Set up:

* Install nvidia-current (I used Synaptic).

* Ensure that /etc/X11/xorg.conf does not exist (delete it if
necessary).

* Reboot and login in. At this boot you should be using the nouveau
driver because xorg.conf is not specifying nvidia. Confirm that the
nvidia module is loaded with:

lsmod | grep nvidia

Reproduction of problem:

* Run gnome-display-properties, either from the command line, or via the
System / Prefs / Display menu option.

(2) What should happen:

gnome-display-properties should display its standard window and allow
you to change screen resolution, etc, as it does after a fresh
installation.

(3) What actually happens:

gnome-display-properties says:

"It appears your graphics driver does not support the necessary
extensions to use this tool. Do you want to use your graphics driver
vendor's tool instead? No / Yes."

This is the message it normally displays when you *are* running the
nvidia module.

Note that it tells the truth - if you select 'No' and continue to use
gnome-display-properties, it does not detect monitors or change screen
resolution.

However, if you select 'Yes' and have it run nvidia-settings, nvidia-
settings says you aren't using the nvidia module and it can't do
anything either.

[Bug 524974] Re: tuco

2010-02-27 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your
report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can
better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it.

Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For
help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally,
in the report please include:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System ->
About Ubuntu.
2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by
checking in Synaptic.
3) What happened and what you expected to happen.

The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide
variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures .
Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make
your bug report much more complete. Thanks!

2010-02-27 Thread Anzenketh
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

You have a lot of useful information on your bug report however it is
still missing some key points. I would like to confirm that your bug
exists but I don't have enough information.

Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include enough
information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you
would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have
instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,(Please be exact as possible this is so we can confirm your bug.)
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's "Help -> Report a Problem" menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 525316] Re: seahorse-tool crashed with SIGSEGV

2010-02-27 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make

not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you

[Bug 528830] Re: Must log in twice to gdm in Lucid

2010-02-27 Thread Rocko
I just did a test by removing /etc/X11/xorg.conf so that the system
boots up using the nouveau driver: gdm still crashes after the first
login attempt.

However, lsmod shows that the nvidia module has been loaded, which was
not the case in earlier versions of Ubuntu when xorg didn't specify the
nvidia module. So perhaps this bug is linked to a faulty nvidia-current
install.

[Bug 529282] [NEW] gnome-display-properties does not work if you install nvidia-current

2010-02-27 Thread Rocko
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

If you install nvidia-current but have no xorg.conf file, Lucid boots X
using the nouveau driver. However, it also loads the nvidia module and
when you run gnome-display-properties, it says that it appears your
graphics driver does not support the necessary extensions to run this
tool. It should work, though, since the nvidia module is not being used.

[Bug 528830] Re: Must log in twice to gdm in Lucid

2010-02-27 Thread Rocko
Technically, it's not a problem with having to login twice: I just found
that if you enter an incorrect password on the first attempt, gdm still
crashes and restarts. The second time though it starts up OK.

@Manav: I don't have to enter my password twice when authenticating software
installation, only when I'm first starting up gdm. Perhaps that is a different
bug.

[Bug 529276] [NEW] gnome-volume-control-applet does not run at startup

gnome-volume-control-applet should run changed in Lucid, eg does it need
to be added to the start up programs?

[Bug 528890] Re: Informatic

Thanks!

[Bug 408417] Re: No option to log in remotely via XDMCP

2010-02-27 Thread jdege
I have to say I'm flabbergasted. I'd though remote login has always
been considered one of the fundamental capabilities of X11. I'm
astounded that anyone would consider it optional.

That enabling an XDCMP server requires editing a config file is a minor
inconvenience. That I can't access the chooser from a GDM login screen
is a definite show-stopper.

[Bug 507263] Re: Light 1px border around desktop

2010-02-27 Thread Uncle Spellbinder
I'm getting the frame when renaming files on my desktop, changing themes
and/or fonts, font size...

Doing nautilus -q each time I make a minor adjustment is getting really
annoying. Hope a fix is in the works.

We still have this "white border", when renaming a file or folder on the

Use 'nautilus -q' to extinguish it.

2010-02-27 Thread Ted
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make

description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

[Bug 529233] [NEW] editing locations to the clock applet, keyboard navigation closes the dialog unexpectedly

2010-02-27 Thread Oren Barnea
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

When I edit the locations in the clock applet preferences and I navigate the
dialog with the keyboard, pressing Enter on any button causes the dialog to
close, as if I pressed the Close button. The Close button actually stays
highlighted all the time, even when I highlight a different button. If I
activate a highlighted button using the space bar instead of the Enter key, it
works as expected.
This bug is very similar to a bug I filed against update-manager a few months

[Bug 529229] [NEW] no buddy icon or incorrect buddy icon for facebook

2010-02-27 Thread Stewart G.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

When a facebook contact becomes available, usually no buddy icon is
displayed in the notification. Eventually an icon may be displayed after
a long delay. Buddy icons should load from a cache for the
notifications.

When a facebook contact signs off, the wrong buddy icon may be shown, or
it may show the correct icon initially, and then change to display the
buddy icon of another contact. I think this is happening when multiple
contacts sign off while the notification is still displayed.

[Bug 529208] [NEW] File Operations dialog duplicates 'Preparing'

2010-02-27 Thread Alan Pope
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Unmounting a device I get the prompt to empty the trash. When I do that
I get the usual "File Operations" dialog. It has the word "Preparing" in
it twice, in two font sizes. I'm not sure I really need to know this
twice. Can the second one be supressed or say something more
interesting?
