[Bug 542809] Re: all mp3 songs removed from que on start of music player
I am only concerned because one PC did not require me to mount the drive first while the second PC required me to mount the drive. The simplicity of Ubuntu (Not having to go to the terminal as often as some of the other Linux releases) is one of it's outstanding traits. -- all mp3 songs removed from que on start of music player https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/542809 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 542809] Re: all mp3 songs removed from que on start of music player
Yes, you are correct. With the last install of Rhythmbox in Jaunty I did not have to mount the drive that the MP3s were on before using Rythmbox. Since I switched PCs, and reinstalled Jaunty on the new PC, I now have to mount the drive to keep the song list intact... or explained another way, I manually mount the drive first so I don't lose everything in my song list when I go into Ryhthmbox. [Bug 532633] Re: [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment
For me, the issue is almost solved: Theme now update buttons position, so one's can choose "Dust" for instance... I currently give it a try in a VM (I don't like "Ambiance" background color that remain in terminal windows even if background image is changed). Button layout reversal for new themes is also there, but the proposition seems to be there only at first time which imo, let's be open minded, does not let users try easily (with several reversals) and make their decision: Reversal should be proposed unconditionally for new themes. Installing "Human", indeed, does not show application icon in application menu button? As several other themes... Maybe this is another remaining issue for those who want to remain brown? So, to summarize, IMO: -Always propose reversal for new themes. -Fix the application icon for menu button. [Bug 550054] [NEW] Power Manager Not putting Monitor to Sleep
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager In Ubuntu 10.04, the gnome-power-manager seems to have no effect on my laptop. I am running my Toshiba laptop with an external monitor and the laptop LCD disabled. [Bug 550046] Re: mouse does not resume after waking from suspend to ram triggered by closing lid
Some further testing shows that every alternate wake from suspend to RAM while running off the amd64 live image results in a blank screen at wake. Switching to the first or second virtual console works, and then going to virtual console 7 (in which the x session is running) brings back the display. The order of events is: 1. Suspend by closing lid. 2. Open lid, note problem with mouse pointer disappearing as reported above. 3. Suspend by closing lid. 4. Open lid and get a black screen. 5. Attempt to switch to different virtual console, successful. 6. Switch back to virtual console 7. Get restored X session. 7. Suspend by closing lid. 8. Open lid and have system restore to X session very fast. 9. Suspend by closing lid. 10. Open lid and get a black screen. 11. Switch to virtual console 1 or 2. Then back to 7 and return to X session. So it appears that waking from suspend to RAM in even-numbered sessions has problems with restoring the X session and requires that you switch to a different virtual console and switch back to console 7. I have also noticed that the problem with the mouse (reported above) only happened after the first wake from suspend to RAM. -- mouse does not resume after waking from suspend to ram triggered by closing lid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/550046 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). @MartinCasc Yes, and I fundamentally disagree with pretty much every single one of Mark's responses to the criticism that follows in the previous *300* posts. There are so many instances in this thread where, as I just said, Mark writes two paragraphs which consist of absolutely *nothing*. Meanwhile, user after user pours their heart out giving him sound factual information on UI design. His response is to respond *as if* he is considering their post, but it is clear that he never has had any intention of being up front and honest with the community as to what all of this means when the whole thing he is planning comes together. That is 'tricky', at best, and quite possibly a flat-out refusal to share any information about future design plans. What that tells me is that there is no interest whatsoever in doing anything but slowly placating the community with a lot of non- information. [Bug 445123] Re: No GUI option to disable face browser
Jerone Young wrote on 2010-03-26: "@Rick This bug can not wait for 10.10 & needs to be fixed in 10.04 for many corporate users. It looks like the fix came in extremely quickly. So why now put this in the bug." I completely agree. First of all it was a really bad choice to put the new GDM in Ubuntu 9.10 when there wasn't even a single GUI to configure it. Ubuntu 9.04 and earlier had a great GUI to change everthing and I always completely customized my GDM. Then they put the new GDM in Ubuntu 9.10 and there was nothing to configure. At the time Ubuntu 9.10 was released the only option was to let a user automatically logon. By default Ubuntu 9.10 shows an insecure list of user names and there isn't even a GUI to disable it. Now Ubuntu 10.04 (which is an LTS) is almost finished and they still want to release it with a GDM that can't be configured. That's really an epic fail. The new GDM has been put into Ubuntu way to early. They had to wait untill a GUI was released which was of the same quality as the GUI for the old GDM. I'm still running Ubuntu 9.04 on all of my systems. The new GDM is the reason I've never upgraded to Ubuntu 9.10. I don't want my systems to display my logon name. Waiting till the release of Ubuntu 10.10? Only for a simple checkbox to disable the face browser? Really, that's completely ridiculous! Visual freeze? So what? This is just a simple checkbox which is really easy to test. Does it work? Great. Than just put it in Ubuntu! Why should we wait for 7 months only to have one little checkbox? The great difference between feature releases and fix releases is ridiculous anyway. Canonical thinks everything is a new feature. For example: With the release of Ubuntu 9.04 they thought showing the number of updates was not user friendly. How can they ever think showing the number of updates is less user friendly than NOT showing the number of updates??? Anyway, they decided to remove the number of available updates from the update manager in Ubuntu 9.04. Of course people where complaining. They wanted to see the number of updates. This was really easy to patch, but for Canonical this was a NEW feature, so the users had to wait for Ubuntu 9.10 while Ubunti 9.04 was just released. WTF??? Why should we wait for 6 months and then upgrade a whole operating system just to get an old feature back??? That's ridiculous! It's just a simple text string showing the number of updates. It's so easy to test if it works or doesn't work. Does it work? Than just push the update to your users. Why do they have to wait for 6 months till a new release of Ubuntu is released? Canonical makes me sick with their "No, this is a new feature, so you'll have to wait for Ubuntu version [current + 1]." -- No GUI option to disable face browser https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/445123 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 549975] [NEW] menus in notification area have inconsistent behavior
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel Just a cosmetic bug: All of the icons in the upper-right notification area have menus, but these menus are very inconsistent in their behavior. A nice feature of most menus in Ubuntu is that if you click one menu, then mouse over the header of another one, that menu will open in its place. This is a great UI for when you miss the correct menu by just a bit. But in the notification area, you can only mouse from one menu to another in limited groups, and some other behaviors are inconsistent as well. Here's what I get: * You can't mouse from the network notification to any other menu. * You can mouse between the volume icon and the message icon, but no other menus from there. * You can't mouse from the calendar to any other menu. In fact, unlike all other menus, you can even *click* another menu, and it won't close -- you'll have two menus open. * You can mouse between the chat status menu and the power-down menu, but no other menus from there. In addition, the highlighting behavior when these menus are clicked is inconsistent. The network icon never gets highlighted even when its menu is open. The time and date gets highlighted the moment you mouse over it, gets highlighted in a _different_ color when you click it to open the menu, and is highlighted in yet a different color when you open another menu afterward. Expected behavior: all the notification icons highlight when their menu is open (and only when their menu is open), and you can move from one menu to another by moving your mouse over a different notification icon. [Bug 549935] [NEW] gnome-screenshot ignores "--area" if called from shortcut
You have been subscribed to a public bug: By pressing "Print" a screenshot of the whole desktop gets taken. But I would prefer if I could always choose the area of the screenshot by hand. By calling "gnome-screenshot --area" from commandline you can select the area. So I went into System -> Shortcuts (? have a German layout) and deactivated the shortcut "print" for taking a screenshot. Now I added a new shortcut with the command: "gnome-screenshot --area" and assigned the "print" key to it. (Theoretically I am done at this point) But if I press the print key a screenshot of the whole screen gets taken. And there was NO area selection. If I change the command from "-- area" to "--interactive", then by pressing the "print" key the property window pops up (if i select there the checkbox area-selection I can choose the area). Assigning "gnome-screenshot --area" to a different key/ or combination of keys has the same result - the area selection never shows up. (The interactive mode always works) Do I miss something or did I found a bug? And can anyone tell me if there is a fix? As a workaround I tried putting the command into a script and then calling the script per shortcut with the same result: the area selection never shows up, (the interactive mode does). I am using Ubuntu 9.10 with kernel 2.6.31-20-generic (without compiz or any desktop effects) loe ** Affects: gnome-utils (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- gnome-screenshot ignores "--area" if called from shortcut https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/549935 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-utils in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 549968] [NEW] weather-applet uses wrong icons
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-applets The weather applet (and also the clock applet if you enable weather) uses the Ubuntu-Mono-Dark weather icons for Ambiance even if I customize the theme to use Humanity-Dark. I seemed to have gained this today after upgrading this machine from Karmic to Lucid beta. Machine has Intel graphics and is a laptop (and answers to the name davros). I've included a screen shot. I'd say there are 3 distinct things happening: 1) The power icon keeps coming and going even though it's plugged into AC continuously - that could be an artifact of the way in which the power thing works? 2) We have those vertical stripes. 3) There is a growing gap between the two chunks of vertical lines which makes me think the notification area is growing for some reason. My other machine running Lucid isn't suffering from this. [Bug 516520] Re: lucid lynx - login screen stuck in a loop
Same issue for me with 2.6.32-17 kernel on a 64 bit machine with little differences: I haven't experienced any "login loop", bu t the problem seems the same. After an update I rebooted and now this is my situation: I get to login screen quite normally (I get some warning while booting but this was happening also before this problem showed up). In the login window I notice the option "session" is missing, then after login I am in failsafe mode (but I did not boot in failsafe mode) having only xterm. X is working, i.e. I can launch programs normally (I even watched a video using vlc, to say... but no sound) but the windows do not have the title bar, and I can't move/resize,minimize them. If I launch a program a window just appears in some spot where it is doomed to stay with a definite size (this differs between different programs, I think this depends on some predefined configuration of said programs). I can provide any information you want (I can connect to the internet from terminal and use firefox) if you can guide me I will be happy to help. This problem seems not to be kernel-related since I tried booting another kernel (2.6.31-14) and got the same behavior. [Bug 538761] Re: the volume changed sound effects don't work on Ubuntu
The reason I'm doing that is it's already specified as something libnotify should support, so my patch is to implement that support. Although, indeed, not trouble to use Canberra from the source. Come to think of it, now you've paused me for a moment, it would make more sense to not use the libnotify hint in this case. (Given the extra hacking that would be necessary and the thought that positional sounds would be darn cool for notifications except in this one case). I'm just blindly obeying the all-knowing wiki :) So, err, thanks and carry on! -- the volume changed sound effects don't work on Ubuntu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/538761 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 538761] Re: the volume changed sound effects don't work on Ubuntu
Hmmm, I'm not sure what benefit that would bring really, we already have an abstraction library for handling event sounds (libcanberra). Shoehorning it in to libnotify to have it handled by notify-osd (which would just use libcanberra anyway) doesn't really seem like much win to me, or am i missing something? [Bug 549919] [NEW] active items in window list miscoloured by overlaps
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel When active items in the window list are overlapped by tooltips or dropped menus, the colour of the overlapped area changes to the non-active colour and remains so after the overlapping item is gone. Hence window list items ends up half-coloured in some cases.
