[Bug 553200] Re: Mouse and keyboard stop working after selecting user
Same here, I installed nvidia_96 through Jockey today after a buch of updates on a fresh install of Beta 2. nvidia_96 fails to install properly, Then after a reboot, GDM crashes after clicking on a user. GDM restarts after a few seconds. I switched to tty1 and sudo stop gdm && startx. Gnome desktop loads with nvidia accelerated graphics. nvidia module is actually loaded and running. Compiz effects are working. But Jockey still reports that nvidia was disabled. This is my kids computer so I cant expect her to login through the cli so its back to nouveau for now. -- Mouse and keyboard stop working after selecting user https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/553200 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 356022] Re: unable to mount or browse samba networks
I figured out what the problem was! We are customer's of Comcast, a large American ISP, in State College, Pennsylvania, USA. They have DNS search redirection or whatever. EVERY hostname name is resolved by them. If it isn't one on the public internet, they redirect you to their web server with a search result for whatever the hostname is. Eg. if I were to enter "adgagsfaa" or "minitrue" as the address bar in firefox, comcast's search results for those terms would come up because it resolved those random/local addresses to their web server. Similarly if I enter those terms as an address in nautilus, comcast DNS resolves them to their web server as well. In other words, Comcast's DNS results are superseding all of the SMB/WINS/NMB/whatever results for the local network. I just tried "ping telescreen" from minitrue, and it resolved it to 208.68.139.38 . I believe this may be a problem with OpenDNS as well. I fixed the problem by using Google's DNS servers (8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4). Immediately everything started working. Windows does not have this problem because they have SMB/WINS/NMB/whatever to resolve hostnames before they try DNS results. One possible workaround, other than using a real DNS service, is to implement windows' behavior with /etc/nsswitch.conf. Whether or not Ubuntu's software should be patched to avoid this problem, I don't know. I doubt using either of these workarounds could be made user friendly. -- unable to mount or browse samba networks https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/356022 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 508847] Re: Fn+F4 video switch key not working on HP 6730b
With Lucid, the kernel is now telling the BIOS that it supports win7 ACPI features. Part of the Win7 feature set is display configuration changing through win+p instead of the unique key code used by previous versions of windows. The real problem here is that gnome-settings- daemon, the process that listens for display configuration events, only listens for a single key code and not a chord like win+p, and it's not configurable through a gconf setting. Quirking the kernel is an unsufficient fix because every new laptop would need a quirk. We also pulled the ACPI support from upstream, so we should follow their lead and not behave differently. ** Package changed: linux (Ubuntu) => gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) Assignee: Canonical Kernel Team (canonical-kernel-team) => (unassigned) -- Fn+F4 video switch key not working on HP 6730b https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/508847 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 559764] [NEW] Evolution does not remember layout size
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution Using Ubuntu Lucid Beta, fully updated as of 9-Apr-2010. Evolution does not remember the size of the panels of my layout when I exit and subsequently restart Evolution. It does remember that I want to use the wide layout, but every time that I start up Evolution, I am required to resize the panes so that the pane with the subject and header information is larger than the default setting (I set the size such that the message view pane is the width of a standard 80-character message). This issue can be reproduced 100% of the time. My expectation is that when I start Evolution and resize the panes, when I subsequently exit Evolution (e.g., shut down my laptop or simply quit) and come back to it later, it should remember the size of the panes that I have set. Instead of that, I must resize the message header/message view panes manually every time I start the application, which is quite annoying. [Bug 559719] [NEW] gujarati layout makes keyboard or xkb unfunctional
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center I am not sure if this is reported in the right package. It is here because it involves gnome-keyboard-properties , however it also involves xkb. It seems that under Lucid (problem occurred with upgrade), having the Gujarati language keyboard layout (as one of the possible layouts in the layout switcher) causes an error in xkb and renders it impossible to enter text. If gujarati is listed in the system-wide defaults, then the gdm login screen will not support any keyboard input. However, the keyboard will work in any user accounts which do not include the Gujarati layout as one of the switchable options. The gujarati layout does not have to be selected for the bug to occur, it needs only to be among the switchable options. I do not know if this bug applies to other "exotic" layouts (i.e. not western like EN, FR). The problem of not being able to enter any text was solved by removing Gujarati from the available options, first for the user account, then for the gdm login screen by applying system-wide. I have attached the kxb error that occurred on login to the affected account. (I have 2 user accounts, one affected [guj, fr, us] and one not [fr, us].) [Bug 558898] Re: gnome-terminal crashes, kills maximus and netbook environment
The problem is that it doesn't "Crash" per-se, it just renders netbook- launcher unusable. Apport doesn't report anything particularly crashing, I just cannot get to the netbook-launcher properly (by clicking on the icon in the top-left corner), and the gnome-terminal is frozen, as shown in a screenshot, as overlaying that part of the screen. It also doesn't happen every time, but is intermittent. To solve this, I must either alt+f2 and issue 'killall gnome-terminal' or get my session logged out and back in. ** Changed in: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => Incomplete -- gnome-terminal crashes, kills maximus and netbook environment https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/558898 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 553301] Re: Music synced to iPod touch does not appear on device
Same here, syncing works fine when using iPod 3GS 16GB, but not on the iPod Touch 16GB. I also noticed Rhythmbox doesn't report the specs of the iPod Touch properly, see the attached screenshot. Guess I just wasted several Euro's upgrading from firmware 2.x to the latest 3.1.3, since I first thought that was the problem. Apparently not. ** Attachment added: "iPod Touch specs not being detected" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/43603126/iPod%20Touch%20Properties.png -- Music synced to iPod touch does not appear on device https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/553301 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
