[Bug 221112] Re: Can't use space bar in search bar when using french alternative keyboard

I want to precise that I'd be glad to do the modification myself (like
changing the shortcut), but after having been refused several times for
other modifications in Rythmbox, I've lost my motivation.

[Bug 431817] Re: apple trailers won't play when opened from apple.Com

2010-04-11 Thread Pēteris Krišjānis
Well, there is a problem. I don't know how this fix works, but
quicktime.com still gives me ad for Quicktime instead of playing it
after upgrading to 2.30.0-0ubuntu3. I can't see many reasons why Apple
does it - they don't have and they don't plan to release Quicktime for
Linux - but this is quite saddening and no Ubuntu or Gstreamer fault at
all. Almost only reason I can think about that they have lot of
"leecher" tools and different players connecting to site and trying
playing trailers and overmaxing their resources, so they have to limit
this access. Still, not very nice.

[Bug 555558] Re: Swedish keyboard layout resets to english after shutdown/reboot

2010-04-11 Thread ChristianG
Hi,

sorry for the late reply. All I have to do is reboot my computer. I
don't know of any other way. All I can tell you is that I'm using a
Logitech DiNovo keyboard + mouse combo. It has a USB/Bluetooth dongle
that has coused som problems in the past, and starting with Lucid it
registers as a bluetooth unit, don't think it did that before. (Had to
enter password and whatnot for both the keyboard and mouse).

Sorry I can't explain further, but if you want logs etc just let me know
what you want and I'll get it for you.

[Bug 214370] Re: Logout/Shutdown Sound Not Working

2010-04-11 Thread David Clayton
In 10.04 it seems to be that the Shutdown/reboot procedure just cuts off
the GDM session and sound system at the knees, whereas the normal
"Logout" allows GDM to execute the PostSession commands as you would
anticipate.

I tried to find out what (if any) scripts were run when the Gnome
Shutdown/Restart items were selected but I had no luck, does anyone know
what is called in these circumstances?

[Bug 560855] Re: Several Problems with Appearance in Ubuntu Lucid Lynx.

2010-04-11 Thread DaveE
I have similar problems with lucid. After a reboot, the desktop comes up
without panels. To get them back, I use function keys to invoke gnome-
appearance-properties & select the "High Contrast Inverse" theme. After
some futzing with the panel's "properties" location, I can finally get
the upper main panel back. Running "gnome-appearance-properties" and
"apt-cache policy gnome-appearance-properties" from a terminal result in
the same messages.

[Bug 540192] Re: Button text mess-up in users and groups window

2010-04-11 Thread Gabe Gorelick
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this
bug as a bug in gnome-system-tools.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's "Help -> Report a Problem" menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 528897] Re: main track list/view is very obtrusive when files are being added/removed

2010-04-11 Thread steubens
yes, it still does it with beta 2; the main view redrawing for every new
item is what makes it very slow

if you've ever added the folder to rhythmbox and it sees the device go
away; it will add all of them at once when it comes back (thus bypassing
what i described), you'll want to purge
./.local/share/rhythmbox/rhythmdb.xml (though there are other ways to
make it do it, this is simplest)

as i said in the original post; picking a less often updated folder in
one of the column views during the add stops it from using 100% cpu;
additionally it is able to add songs much faster, as it redraws _the
entire main view_ for every song if you pick the "All" entry at the top
of the column views

You cannot close a bug due to Ubuntu 10.04's shipping with Gedit 2.30,
because:

1. Ubuntu 9.10 still has at least 1 year of support before EOL and
people are still using it as a production system,

2. Ubuntu 10.04 is not released yet and not production ready.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

2010-04-11 Thread Nigel Babu
Thank you for your bug report. In rhythmbox, the play button doubles up
as pause button. When a track is being played, clicking on the play
button again would pause it. Like sam explained in the question, the
philosophy is less is more, like, don't have too many buttons or text
which may confuse the user. If however you feel this issue needs to be
addressed, you can open a bug upstream, please see
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME for more information on

[Bug 518230] Re: Some PDF forms don't save entered information

2010-04-11 Thread Tristan Schmelcher
FYI, for anyone in need of a workaround, ano...@users.sourceforge.net
describes a workaround in the Debian bug tracker entry:

"Running the original pdf through either pdfopt or pdfedit's delinearize
function creates a form that can be correctly saved, at least in this
case."

I can attest that this works. Just open a terminal and type "pdfopt
", then open in Evince and make
all your edits with that version of the file. Saving that file will
work.

Interestingly, the pdfopt workaround will NOT work on a file that has
_already_ been saved by Evince. Instead, it outputs a fatal error:

$ pdfopt f1040sd-borked.pdf f1040sd-borked-out.pdf

So evidently Evince is actually saving corrupt data.

2010-04-11 Thread Ryan Li
This time, I installed compiz, and set it as default window manager, after
login the window manager is gone again.
It's because of ~/.gconf/desktop/gnome/session/required_components/%gconf.xml,
which I have attached here. Removing this file can start the window manager
correctly (compiz).

[Bug 63245] Re: Cannot alt + tab out of fullscreen games

2010-04-11 Thread Harry Sufehmi
Hi, I just found a way to ALT-TAB from Wolfenstein : Enemy Territory to the
Gnome Desktop.
Here's how :

(1) Switch to Windowed Mode : pressing Alt-Enter usually works

(2) Activate the console : by pressing the ` (backtick?) key

(3) Now you can press ALT-TAB to your Gnome Desktop

I don't know why, but my guess is activating the console also releases
its grab on mouse & keyboard. So then you can ALT-TAB to your desktop.

Since Wolfenstein is based on Quake-engine; my guess is you can do this
trick too on other games based on that engine.

Hope it helps someone.

[Bug 312632] Re: wish : no compulsory extension

2010-04-11 Thread fermulator
I changed the status to "incomplete".

Just tried with EyeOfGnome (eog) 2.26.1, and the problem still exists.
I personally tested with Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04, and I had someone else test
in Ubuntu Karmic 9.10.

Steps to reproduce.

 1) Open any image with EyeOfGnome (Image Viewer) in Ubuntu.
 2) File --> "Save As"
 3) Now, we're prompted with a "Name". Call it "my picture I am saving"
 4) Click "Save"

ERROR: File format is unknown or unsupported - Eye of GNOME could not
determine a supported writable file format based on the filename.
Please try a different file extension like .png or .jpg.

OK, look at this, there's a "File type" drop down menu, currently said "All
Images".
Try changing this to "JPEG" or "PNG", try again, same error.

There are two options here:
 A) [RECOMMENDED] When the user choses the filetype, it should automatically
suffix the "Name" entry with that chosen filetype.
 B) eog shouldn't care if an extension exists (I don't think this is good
though -- it is preferred to suffix images with the proper extension for its
type)

Here's my version on 9.04:
$ dpkg --list | grep eog
ii eog2.26.1-0ubuntu1
Eye of GNOME graphics viewer program

[Bug 490093] Re: [users-admin] Password is reset to old value when it's been changed by running about-me

2010-04-11 Thread Gabriel M.
Since Canonical offers support for Karmic until April 2011, I don't
think they have the choice but to fix things of this importance.
Upgrading to Lucid right away is not a very good idea for most users
either, since it's gonna bring with it a truckload of new bugs, as
happens with each release, including the last LTS. It's like picking
between Scylla and Charybdis:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scylla_and_Charybdis

Now instead of pushing each version of Ubuntu as Linux for Humans and
all the other hype, I think non-LTS versions should receive a permanent
Beta label, and support for them should be deprecated as soon as the
next version arrives. This is basically what happens already, so why not
make it official? On the other hand the LTS version should receive extra
work to be stable *on release*, and release should be delayed for up to
three months is it still has critical bugs on popular hardware, and
stuff like that.

In the meanwhile, if you offer support, try to give at least equivalent
support as Microsoft... they're still supporting Windows XP (how old is
that?) for security, and they certainly wouldn't let unpatched a flaw
that prevents you from changing your password: imagine the uproar!

[Bug 561083] [NEW] Gnome Sound Recorder 2.28.1 records corrupt m4a

2010-04-11 Thread Brett Berry
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

I am using Ubuntu 9.10.
Problem stems from package: gnome-media:
  Installed: 2.28.1-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 2.28.1-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 2.28.1-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

On Thursday, I used the Gnome Sound Recorder 2.28.1 to record audio from
a mixing board, via my laptop's microphone input. I recorded as "CD
Quality .MP3". When I finished recording, the file played very nicely.

The next day I used the same Gnome Sound Recorder 2.28.1 to record audio
from the same mixing board, via the same laptop's microphone input. I
recorded this time as "CD Quality AAC, .m4a". When I finished
recording, I tried to play back the file. Unfortunately, I received a
"This file contains no playable streams" error from Exaile. I then
tried to make a simple recording using my laptop's built in microphone,
using the m4a setting. I received the same error when trying to play
back the file.

It seems that my Gnome Sound Recorder 2.28.1 cannot record a valid m4a
file, when configured to use that setting.

Please let me know if I am missing something.

Please let me know if there is any way to fix my seemingly corrupted
file, as it was the only recording from a sound board from this
particular performance.

I am attaching the smaller of the m4a files I tried to create.

Thank you,
-Brett Berry

[Bug 532633] Re: [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment

2010-04-11 Thread Martin Wildam
I was pretty sure that after the community reactions were so negative
about the buttons now on the left that beta 2 will already have them
back on the right side again.

I read only through the first 50 and last 20 comments or so - I think
this should be far enough for switching back! And with this comment
there is my vote also for switching back.

BTW: If you want to save mouse miles driven, then shouldn't be the right
side completely eliminated? - And all dialog buttons should then be on
the left side also, isn't it?

This is a temporary bug, it only affects Dust. it should be fixed on the
beta3 or the official release (=>buttons on the right).

[Bug 554877] Re: gimps crashes in file open dialog

2010-04-11 Thread Xolotl Loki
I thought about the backtrace, and wondered if some weird font was
causing issues. So I removed some of the more exotic ttf fonts, and the
problem went away. Notice how the font system complained until I
removed the last two fonts, which makes me think this is a pango bug
relating to not having a CIDSupplement for a particular font.

I'm going to leave the bug open, since pango shouldn't crash no matter
what font I have installed, but it should probably be reclassified.

Re: [Bug 532633] Re: [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment

2010-04-11 Thread Bernhard
@James: this could be because you have manually changed the gconf
settings. Either set them back to default or do a fresh install of
lucid. You should be able to change themes and move buttons to the
right. Since you are running a beta release, you cannot expect
everything to work perfectly.

Hi James,

Please file a separate bug report for this issue; it shouldn't happen.

However, I should also mention I can't reproduce it here. Keep in mind
that button position is set in index.theme for each specific theme,
which is the file that says "this window manager theme + this gtk
theme + this colour scheme is a theme by this name." (Essentially
responsible for the individual theme choices that get icons and names
in Appearance Preferences). If you use the Customize option on a
theme, it creates a brand new index.theme file for a brand new theme
and it doesn't record a specific button layout for that.

Okay, my explanation wasn't very good, but these steps should give you
a nice picture:
 * Select Human theme.
 * Note window buttons on right (unless something weird has happened,
justifying a separate bug report).
 * Click Customize and go to the Window Border tab. Choose any other
window border, for example Ambience.
 * Note that window buttons do not change position.
 * Note that your theme, under Appearance Preferences›Theme is called
"Custom" :)

[Bug 532633] Re: [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment

2010-04-11 Thread James P. Carter
FYI, As of 04/11/2010 the following is also NOT true. I have switched
back and forth from various themes... all buttons are on the left...
always! Sad thing for Ubuntu is that when the users 'do' upgrade there
will be a HUGE uproar. Unfortunately due to the way this issue has been
handled or rather not handled you will have lost quite a few "old"
testers. No personal attack intended here however the comment I read
earlier intending to be a double meaning of clearing out the "old" was
obviously made by someone very young and unwise. A person who has been
around understands they do not know even half of what is there to know.
I'm sure someone much wiser and "older" uttered something similar much
more eloquently than I before. I like Ubuntu, I hate to leave however it
seems you are ushering us out...

1. Only new themes, such as Ambiance and Radiance will have buttons on
the left by default. You can continue using old themes, such as Human,
in Lucid and those themes will continue to have buttons on the right
side (according to http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/532633/comments/577
). It is even possible to switch to Human theme and then 'Customize' it
to use all the elements from Radiance theme, but the button layout will
stay on the right.

2010-04-11 Thread James P. Carter
The following option no longer works as of 04/11/2010

2. To revert to old layout, run in a terminal:
$ gconftool-2 --set /apps/metacity/general/button_layout --type string
"menu:minimize,maximize,close"

Apparently though I had already run the fix in the past, the
configuration has been reverted back again for me! Which I had brought
up in the past. Ubuntu for humans? Apparently not. Sorry but this is not
a small issue... the background of this issue is HUGE. I'm out.

[Bug 554814] Re: Network mounts timeout almost instantly

2010-04-11 Thread Bruno Girin
I just witnessed this bug on a newly upgraded Lucid beta 2 system.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Go to Places -> Connect to Server
2. Enter the details of a server folder to connect to, e.g.:
  * Service type: ssh
  * server:
  * folder: /home/
  * user name:
3. Click "connect"

Expected behaviour:
Nautilus opens a window showing the network drive.

Actual behaviour:
Nautilus reports a time-out error connecting to DBus (see attached screenshot)

Note that I am also marking this as regression-potential because it
fails for network settings that used to work with Karmic.

[Bug 560975] [NEW] "Chat" menu item appears twice in the envelope menu on the panel

2010-04-11 Thread Tesselode
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

Whatever you call the envelope menu; it also has "mail", "compose new
message", etc.

But yeah, "chat" appears twice. And both "chat" menu items open up the
buddy list like they're supposed to. I have Empathy running on startup
and I got rid of the password for the login keyring. I think one of
those might have something to do with it, as it has happed on and off
before.

[Bug 560626] Re: Enhancement to Rhythmbox and Movieplayer

2010-04-11 Thread Gabe Gorelick
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this
bug as a bug in rhythmbox.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the

[Bug 560626] [NEW] Enhancement to Rhythmbox and Movieplayer

2010-04-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I am new user of Rhythmbox 0.12.8. When I started using this app, I see
that there is no pause or stop button available in the app. Is it normal
in the Rhythmbox app? From an user point of view, I feel this is not
good feature. Any music player should have the Play, Pause and stop
buttons by default. Please clarify and point me to the developers who
can fix this issue.

I am using the Ubuntu 10.04 Beta1 version.

[Bug 557669] Re: nautilus missing eject option for cd/dvd-rom

2010-04-11 Thread Domen Vrankar
I've found out how to reproduce the bug:

1. go to folder with an iso cd image
2. right click and select "open wiht Brasero"
3. burn the image to cd
4. error ejecting cd should appear

Now unmount replaces eject in nautilus

I've reproduced it on last ubuntu 10.04 beta2 32 bit

Domen

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: nautilus

  ubuntu 10.04 beta1 (at least I think it's not beta2 already)

Nautilus now supports only unmount option. Because the laptop doesn't
have a button to eject a disc and unmount doesn't eject it, it would be
nice to have eject option with/instead of unmount option in case of cd
  /dvd-drives.

- In current version I don't have any way that I know of to eject cd from

[Bug 74008] Re: "Include the window border" doesn't work by default (with compiz)

2010-04-11 Thread Martin Olsson
I bet the papercut team would reject it as-is on the grounds that it's
not trivial to fix. In case someone finds the upstream compiz commit
that fixes it, cherry picking that commit might be trivial enough to
merit a papercut though.
