[Bug 431817] Re: apple trailers won't play when opened from apple.Com
Well, there is a problem. I don't know how this fix works, but quicktime.com still gives me ad for Quicktime instead of playing it after upgrading to 2.30.0-0ubuntu3. I can't see many reasons why Apple does it - they don't have and they don't plan to release Quicktime for Linux - but this is quite saddening and no Ubuntu or Gstreamer fault at all. Almost only reason I can think about that they have lot of "leecher" tools and different players connecting to site and trying playing trailers and overmaxing their resources, so they have to limit this access. [Bug 555558] Re: Swedish keyboard layout resets to english after shutdown/reboot
Hi, sorry for the late reply. All I have to do is reboot my computer. I don't know of any other way. All I can tell you is that I'm using a Logitech DiNovo keyboard + mouse combo. It has a USB/Bluetooth dongle that has coused som problems in the past, and starting with Lucid it registers as a bluetooth unit, don't think it did that before. [Bug 528897] Re: main track list/view is very obtrusive when files are being added/removed
yes, it still does it with beta 2; the main view redrawing for every new item is what makes it very slow if you've ever added the folder to rhythmbox and it sees the device go away; it will add all of them at once when it comes back (thus bypassing what i described), you'll want to purge ./.local/share/rhythmbox/rhythmdb.xml (though there are other ways to make it do it, this is simplest) as i said in the original post; picking a less often updated folder in one of the column views during the add stops it from using 100% cpu; additionally it is able to add songs much faster, as it redraws _the entire main view_ for every song if you pick the "All" entry at the top of the column views -- main track list/view is very obtrusive when files are being added/removed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/528897 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 518230] Re: Some PDF forms don't save entered information
FYI, for anyone in need of a workaround, ano...@users.sourceforge.net describes a workaround in the Debian bug tracker entry: "Running the original pdf through either pdfopt or pdfedit's delinearize function creates a form that can be correctly saved, at least in this case." I can attest that this works. Just open a terminal and type "pdfopt ", then open in Evince and make all your edits with that version of the file. Saving that file will work. [Bug 63245] Re: Cannot alt + tab out of fullscreen games
Hi, I just found a way to ALT-TAB from Wolfenstein : Enemy Territory to the Gnome Desktop. Here's how : (1) Switch to Windowed Mode : pressing Alt-Enter usually works (2) Activate the console : by pressing the ` (backtick?) key (3) Now you can press ALT-TAB to your Gnome Desktop I don't know why, but my guess is activating the console also releases its grab on mouse & keyboard. So then you can ALT-TAB to your desktop. Since Wolfenstein is based on Quake-engine; my guess is you can do this trick too on other games based on that engine. [Bug 312632] Re: wish : no compulsory extension
I changed the status to "incomplete". Just tried with EyeOfGnome (eog) 2.26.1, and the problem still exists. I personally tested with Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04, and I had someone else test in Ubuntu Karmic 9.10. Steps to reproduce. 1) Open any image with EyeOfGnome (Image Viewer) in Ubuntu. 2) File --> "Save As" 3) Now, we're prompted with a "Name". Call it "my picture I am saving" 4) Click "Save" ERROR: File format is unknown or unsupported - Eye of GNOME could not determine a supported writable file format based on the filename. Please try a different file extension like .png or .jpg. OK, look at this, there's a "File type" drop down menu, currently said "All Images". Try changing this to "JPEG" or "PNG", try again, same error. There are two options here: A) [RECOMMENDED] When the user choses the filetype, it should automatically suffix the "Name" entry with that chosen filetype. B) eog shouldn't care if an extension exists (I don't think this is good though -- it is preferred to suffix images with the proper extension for its type) Here's my version on 9.04: $ dpkg --list | grep eog ii eog2.26.1-0ubuntu1 Eye of GNOME graphics viewer program ** Changed in: eog (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released => Confirmed -- wish : no compulsory extension https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/312632 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 490093] Re: [users-admin] Password is reset to old value when it's been changed by running about-me
Since Canonical offers support for Karmic until April 2011, I don't think they have the choice but to fix things of this importance. Upgrading to Lucid right away is not a very good idea for most users either, since it's gonna bring with it a truckload of new bugs, as happens with each release, including the last LTS. It's like picking between Scylla and Charybdis: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scylla_and_Charybdis Now instead of pushing each version of Ubuntu as Linux for Humans and all the other hype, I think non-LTS versions should receive a permanent Beta label, and support for them should be deprecated as soon as the next version arrives. This is basically what happens already, so why not make it official? On the other hand the LTS version should receive extra work to be stable *on release*, and release should be delayed for up to three months is it still has critical bugs on popular hardware, and stuff like that. In the meanwhile, if you offer support, try to give at least equivalent support as Microsoft... they're still supporting Windows XP (how old is that?) for security, and they certainly wouldn't let unpatched a flaw that prevents you from changing your password: imagine the uproar! -- [users-admin] Password is reset to old value when it's been changed by running about-me https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/490093 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-system-tools in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 561083] [NEW] Gnome Sound Recorder 2.28.1 records corrupt m4a
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-media I am using Ubuntu 9.10. Problem stems from package: gnome-media: Installed: 2.28.1-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 2.28.1-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 2.28.1-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status On Thursday, I used the Gnome Sound Recorder 2.28.1 to record audio from a mixing board, via my laptop's microphone input. I recorded as "CD Quality .MP3". When I finished recording, the file played very nicely. The next day I used the same Gnome Sound Recorder 2.28.1 to record audio from the same mixing board, via the same laptop's microphone input. I recorded this time as "CD Quality AAC, .m4a". When I finished recording, I tried to play back the file. Unfortunately, I received a "This file contains no playable streams" error from Exaile. I then tried to make a simple recording using my laptop's built in microphone, using the m4a setting. I received the same error when trying to play back the file. It seems that my Gnome Sound Recorder 2.28.1 cannot record a valid m4a file, when configured to use that setting. Please let me know if I am missing something. Please let me know if there is any way to fix my seemingly corrupted file, as it was the only recording from a sound board from this particular performance. I am attaching the smaller of the m4a files I tried to create. Re: [Bug 532633] Re: [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment
@James: this could be because you have manually changed the gconf settings. Either set them back to default or do a fresh install of lucid. You should be able to change themes and move buttons to the right. Since you are running a beta release, you cannot expect everything to work perfectly. -- [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532633 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I have switched > back and forth from various themes... all buttons are on the left... > always! Hi James, Please file a separate bug report for this issue; it shouldn't happen. However, I should also mention I can't reproduce it here. Keep in mind that button position is set in index.theme for each specific theme, which is the file that says "this window manager theme + this gtk theme + this colour scheme is a theme by this name." (Essentially responsible for the individual theme choices that get icons and names in Appearance Preferences). If you use the Customize option on a theme, it creates a brand new index.theme file for a brand new theme and it doesn't record a specific button layout for that. Okay, my explanation wasn't very good, but these steps should give you a nice picture: * Select Human theme. * Note window buttons on right (unless something weird has happened, justifying a separate bug report). * Click Customize and go to the Window Border tab. Choose any other window border, for example Ambience. * Note that window buttons do not change position. * Note that your theme, under Appearance Preferences›Theme is called "Custom" :) -- [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532633 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 532633] Re: [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment
FYI, As of 04/11/2010 the following is also NOT true. I have switched back and forth from various themes... all buttons are on the left... always! Sad thing for Ubuntu is that when the users 'do' upgrade there will be a HUGE uproar. Unfortunately due to the way this issue has been handled or rather not handled you will have lost quite a few "old" testers. No personal attack intended here however the comment I read earlier intending to be a double meaning of clearing out the "old" was obviously made by someone very young and unwise. A person who has been around understands they do not know even half of what is there to know. I'm sure someone much wiser and "older" uttered something similar much more eloquently than I before. I like Ubuntu, I hate to leave however it seems you are ushering us out... 1. Only new themes, such as Ambiance and Radiance will have buttons on the left by default. You can continue using old themes, such as Human, in Lucid and those themes will continue to have buttons on the right side (according to http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/532633/comments/577 ). It is even possible to switch to Human theme and then 'Customize' it to use all the elements from Radiance theme, but the button layout will stay on the right. -- [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532633 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 74008] Re: "Include the window border" doesn't work by default (with compiz)
I bet the papercut team would reject it as-is on the grounds that it's not trivial to fix. In case someone finds the upstream compiz commit that fixes it, cherry picking that commit might be trivial enough to merit a papercut though. -- "Include the window border" doesn't work by default (with compiz) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/74008 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
