[Bug 584183] Re: Evolution crashes almost randomly

2010-06-03 Thread ubuntolo
Hi gabak, forgive me, but I'm not sure that it's a size related bug. With my
Evolution archive, approximately 400 MB of e-mails, the bug still happens, so I
think that the size is not important at all.
Forgive me, but still I have no time to produce the backtrace, I hope that you
can use the one produced by Rick in the meanwhile.

[Bug 589541] [NEW] MSN seemingly silently dump messages

2010-06-03 Thread Eax
Public bug reported:

3) What I expected to happen:
I expected the message I had just sent to be delivered to my chat-partner.

4) It seemingly silently dumped the messages no matter the length.

This seems to happen after I have left empathy running for some time

[Bug 588963] Re: transfering files via nautilus to/from server via ssh not possible

2010-06-03 Thread Jiří Navrátil
I still believe, that issue is also related to upgrade, not just to
dropbox library.

After reboot, the gnome environmet didn't worked properly. The menu and
panels wasn't started, ALT + F2 not worked.

I was trying to "reinstall" gnome part and found error messages from
apt, that package system dependencies are broken

gnome-desktop-environment is already the newest version.
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
gnome: Depends: swfdec-mozilla but it is not going to be installed

this packages had removed epiphany-extensions and apt-get install
epiphany-extensions removed swfdec-mozilla

apt-get remove gnome-panel
apt-get install gnome-panel

apt-get autoremove
apt-get install ubuntu-netbook ubuntu-desktop

now I have panel and menus again, but will test next reboot later

My points:
1. gnome not usable after apt-get remove nautilus-dropbox Is that only dropbox
issue?
2. are we reporting to dropbox "owner", that this issue exist
3. the issue started only after upgrade and the packaging system have issues
with dependencies For me is that not only dropbox issue.

changes to some other status (at random). It isn't related with video

[Bug 273294] Re: Rhythmbox can not use smb:// as library location

why some play and others do not. I only have this problem in Rhythmbox.
Totem plays these files without problem.

Rhythmbox quit playing these files on 8.04 or 8.10. The only answer I
have found is to rid myself of Rhythmbox.

[Bug 589465] [NEW] Nautilus not working correctly after 6/3 security updates

2010-06-03 Thread Ryan Becker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

After installing the security updates on 6/3/10 and rebooting, Nautilus started
acting odd. My other partition on the system drive does not show up in the
"Places" menu, and when I try to click on the "Computer" link in Places, I get
"Could not display "computer:". Nautilus cannot handle computer locations". I
can still mount the drive using Disk Utility. Also, when trying to open a link
in Evolution, or when I tried to submit a bug using Apport, I get "Error
showing url: Operation not supported". Attached is a report generated by
apport-cli. Any help would be appreciated.

[Bug 589461] [NEW] Does not detect hotplugged USB storage device with USB wireless

2010-06-03 Thread Felicia
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gvfs

I upgraded from Karmic to Lucid on my Compaq Evo n610c. The usb flash
drive that I used to be able to mount and use was no longer recognized.
After trying several things (I'll list in a moment), I've concluded that
the usb flash will not show up in "PLACES" when I plug it in if the usb
wireless is already plugged in.

I've tried - turning off automount, it did not help
I've tried blacklisting the floppy drive (because there isn't one) - this
improved by startup time, but did not affect the usb

What does work:
1) starting the laptop without the wireless, then plugging in the usb, then
plugging in the wireless.
2) plugging in the wireless and the usb then starting the laptop.

While I'd like to leave the wireless usb plugged in all the time, it's
rather inconvenient to remember to plug in the usb flash before I boot
the computer - or shut down and reboot when I forget (restarting
actually takes longer than shut down/boot by ~6 sec.).

[Bug 502642] Re: .ts files always get recognized as application/x-linguist and never as video/mp2t (mpeg transport stream)

2010-06-03 Thread Oliver Joos
@Stefan: thank you for checking this! I will ask the guys who develop QT
Linguist and will then open a new bug to move its rule to the end of
freedesktop.org.xml. Using remote linguist files might be far less
common than video streams. Apropos "text/vnd.trolltech.linguist": I use
shared-mime-info 0.70-0ubuntu1 of Ubuntu Karmic. Perhaps Linguists mime-
type got renamed.

@Danny: Right. Common extensions are .m2t .m2ts .ts .mts .cpi .clpi .mpl
.mpls .bdm .bdmv. My settop-box generates .ts and I wouldn't want to
rename each recording just to see it as thumbnail. ;-)

[Bug 439448] Re: visual corruption affecting several panel applets

2010-06-03 Thread Saul Lima Santos
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I'm using karmic x86_64, updated as of 2009-09-30.

It's very hard to describe the bug, so a screen shot is attached.

As seen on the screen shot, after start up the notification area gets
scrambled, it shows, in case of this screen shot, two volume control
icons, one of them is the actual volume control icon, and the other one
is just a copy of it, it just sits there, clicking on it doesn't do
anything, and right clicking on it will bring the standard notification
area sub-menu. Also missing here is a network manager icon.

  However:
The phantom icon can be a clone of any other icon in the notification area.
I've seen already phantoms of bluez icons, network manager icons and so on. And
the missing icon, can also be any of the other icons, there is no rule or
consistency :)

Also, killing the application with a missing icon will remove the phantom
icon, starting the application afterwards will show a correct functioning icon.
In the case of this screen shot, the missing icon was of a nm-applet, so
after I killed the nm-applet, one of the volume icons (the phantom one)
disappeared, I then started the nm-applet again, and the correct icon for it
appeared and worked as intended.

I haven't seen any related messages in the logs for this.
If you need more information and/or some additional testing,I will be glad to
do it.

  Thanks :)

So, after trying every combination of options I could think of to no
effect, as well as several reboots, I gave up. However, after rebooting
the *keyboard itself*, the beeps are gone! So it's possible that this
is a firmware bug in the keyboard and not in ubuntu. I will update if I
discover anything else.

[Bug 587987] [NEW] shift key no longer works after using dual monitoring

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

after i decided to try dual monitoring using my laptop's vga port, after
messing with resolutions, refresh rates, and positions i got it all to
work. i also can not type on sites that use flash such as chatango. so
where can i begin to fix this problem because i can not figure out where
to begin. at first i thought it was through apps that used a common
protocol but then, while typing this, i discovered it was really the
shift key. i also tried disabling some compiz effects such as desktop
cube and the water effect but it did nothing. i disabled the other
monitor, nothing. i rebooted the system, nothing. this is most
definitely the strangest bug i have ever encountered. even external usb
keyboard's shift keys will not work. i even tried different keyboard
layouts, nothing.

my lack of capitalization is enough proof that the shift key is not
working. this sucks a**

Thanks for the report. Do you mean you were removing two accounts by
selecting them both at the same time, and clicking Delete once? Did the
crash happen before or after the confirmation dialog asking whether to
remove user files?

[Bug 426185] Re: Gnome-panel fails to load various applets

2010-06-03 Thread Risto Mononen
Installing gnome-panel (1:2.30.0-0ubuntu2) below seemed to solve most
of the issues. The clock applet still gives the error message even
after the killall trick.

Additionally I found out several GNOME_*.server files with dummy content. The
following files were full of 0xFF (possibly due to interrupted download the
other day?):
/usr/lib/bonobo/servers/GNOME_Speech_SynthDriver_Speech_Dispatcher.server
/usr/lib/bonobo/servers/GNOME_SeahorseApplet.server
/usr/lib/bonobo/servers/GNOME_Panel_WirelessApplet.server
/usr/lib/bonobo/servers/GNOME_Panel_TrashApplet.server

Overall I am pretty happy with the currently working functionality, the
clock applet will be there some day.

[Bug 588298] Re: non-user-friendly preferences string: Top Posting Option (not Recommended)

2010-06-03 Thread Dylan McCall
While you're at it, the string is also redundant. Of course it's an
option; it is In The Preferences!

It is terribly inconsistent from a UI design stance. It doesn't make
sense to accompany a label with another label that introduces it. If the
former doesn't stand on its own, something is wrong with it.

Finally, the other preference related to top posting, “Start typing at
the bottom on replying,” is not under the “Top Posting Option” title but
among the other check boxes. Where this one should be ;)

(Personally, I would rather see those two become one option called
“reply above original message,” but it's probably too late for that).

[Bug 502642] Re: .ts files always get recognized as application/x-linguist and never as video/mp2t (mpeg transport stream)

2010-06-03 Thread Stefan Brozinski
@Oliver: That works, thanks.

I would like to note that my
/usr/share/mime/packages/freedesktop.org.xml has no mime-type
"text/vnd.trolltech.linguist" with an alias "application/x-linguist",
just a plain entry for a mime-type "application/x-linguist". Moving that
XML element down towards the end did the trick.

Linguist is an application to translate Qt applications's GUIs? I don't
intend to use that ever, so this workaround won't break anything for me.

Anyway, I would rather prefer to force gvfs to analyze the file header.
I'll try to find out if it can be done.

[Bug 589299] Re: Can't unlock screen when using a password-less account

2010-06-03 Thread Charlie Kravetz
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu
if you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs .
