[Bug 494313] Re: Incorrect message "Low Disk Space" on Ubuntu 9.10

2010-06-08 Thread rbaleksandar
Using Ubuntu 9.10.

Since there is already a good description of the problem, I'll keep it short
and clear:
Same problem with me. I have separate mount points for /, /home and /tmp. In
/home I have about 5GB free. When I download a big file (for example the
alternative Ubuntu CD) on the desktop I get a warning that I have less than
1.9GB free disk space. I looked in Gparted (refreshed the data a couple of time
just to make sure), while having this message in front of me, and all I can see
is that I have a little bit more than 4GB. I also checked with the Disk
Analyzer - same thing there.

[Bug 591500] Re: Gnome Screensaver Doesn't Fade Out

2010-06-08 Thread SabreWolfy
$ aptitude changelog gnome-screensaver

gnome-screensaver (2.30.0-0ubuntu2) lucid-proposed; urgency=low

  * debian/patches/15_dont_crash_on_no_fade.patch:
- Don't crash on systems that don't support XF86VM or XRANDR gamma fade,
by testing if fade is supported on a particular screen before
calling the fade_setup and fade_finish virtual functions (LP: #558721)
  * debian/patches/16_dont_crash_in_kvm.patch:
- Don't crash when the XF86VM extension doesn't allow the gamma
  to be set (LP: #581864)
  * debian/patches/14_no_fade_on_user_switch.patch:
- Disable fade on locking to work around LP: #546578 and prevent
the screen remaining blank after user switching. The screensaver
will still fade-in on idle though

  * debian/patches/13_nvidia_gamma_fade_fallback.patch:
- Updated tags with upstream bug number now I've sent it upstream.

 -- Chris Coulson Wed, 17 Feb 2010 19:55:37
+

gnome-screensaver (2.29.90-0ubuntu2) lucid; urgency=low

  * debian/patches/13_nvidia_gamma_fade_fallback.patch:
- Fall back to XF86VM gamma fade if XRANDR gamma fade is not supported

All of that is about handling systems which fail the fade-out. My fade-
out has always worked, so I'm not clear why it no longer fades.

[Bug 471542] Re: gdm doesn't load with large passwd file

2010-06-08 Thread Robert Ancell
Fixed in lp:~ubuntu-desktop/gdm/ubuntu. The UserManager patch (used by
the user switcher) did not honour the new user filters added in 2.29.0,
they have been update to do so. So after logging in the user switcher
would trigger all users/faces being scanned.

To disable users the following line must be in /etc/gdm/custom.conf:

IncldueAll=false

[Bug 590906] Re: Nautilus freezes (greys out) on with certain directories

2010-06-08 Thread Mike Goldberg
Attached is a backtrace, more or less generated by the instructions at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash.

As gdb debugging nautilus ignored my control + c commands, I scraped the
information out of ddd. (Fortunately, gdb running in ddd did respond to
control + c.)

I asked Google for a better way, but I had no joy with anything I found,
even from Stack Overflow. I know that there is a way to interrupt or
control gdb while it is running besides control + c, but I am clueless
as to how to do so. Can anyone tell me how, besides RTFM? It would be
nice to add this information to the instructions at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash. As a (very inactive)
member of the Ubuntu BugSquad, I volunteer myself to do the editing.

The best fix is for new users not to be added to the audio group when

update for lucid. Maverick is going to get a new user dialog, and this

[Bug 591529] [NEW] window list restore current desktop instead restores to native

2010-06-08 Thread jettero
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

http://library.gnome.org/users/user-guide/2.29/windowlist.html.en

The various help documents and the preferences window for the window
list panel applet both state that

"Restore to current workspace

Select this option to restore a window from the applet to the current
workspace, even if the window did not previously reside in the current
workspace."

But that is not in fact what happens. Whether I choose "restore to
current workspace" or "restore to native workspace" what I get is
"restore to native workspace." What I'd like is "restore to current
workspace" but it doesn't work.

I did notice some triaged and won't fix comments associated with another
bug (#216049) that described a behavior where "restore to current
workspace" was doing nothing at all. That's very much worse, and
between that behavior and this behavior I'd prefer this...

... but what I'd really like is the option I selected, which doesn't
seem to work.

I noticed a brasero update this morning.
I installed.

The attempt to copy a CD resulted in the following:

(note: I didn't think to write it down as it was happening, and a
subsequent attempt in copy does not go through the whole process).

note 2: I am running Gnome, ; somehow kpackagekit managed to slip onto
my system. Perhaps because I use kaffeine?

1. right click on desktop CD icon 'Copy Disc'
2. Copy Disc dialog appears; click 'Copy' button
3. KPackageKit appears (what the hell!? This is gnome i'm running here!)
4. kPackageKit tells me an the brasero daemon or something (sorry... didn't
write it down) wants to install cdrdao.
5. I click 'Install' on the kPackageKit dialog
6. This fails
7. kPackageKit tells me an the brasero daemon or something wants to install
cue2toc
8. This fails
9. whole process fails.
10. hope lost.

[Bug 591500] [NEW] Gnome Screensaver Doesn't Fade Out

2010-06-08 Thread Ryan Keyes
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

Releases: Ubuntu 10.04 32/64-bit confirmed, not on Kubuntu or Xubuntu,
as they don't use gnome. Might happen on earlier versions of Ubuntu, not
confirmed.

Package: gnome-screensaver 2.30.0-ubuntu2

Happens in most recent update to gnome-screensaver, around 2 weeks ago.

Happened in a recent update to gnome-screensaver. When clicking lock screen,
the fade to black effect isn't present, the screen immediately goes to black
and sometimes quite sloppily in terms of vertical sync.

[Bug 591498] [NEW] gnome-screenshot appears to free image copied to clipboard if cancel subsequently clicked

2010-06-08 Thread Patrick Rynhart
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-utils

Steps to reproduce this issue in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS

1. Start gnome-screenshot
2. Click "Copy to Clipboard"
3. Click "Cancel" to dismiss the dialog.
4. Start OpenOffice Writer (as an example of another app to paste the image on
the clipboard). Within this application, attempt to paste the image in (Edit
-> Paste).
5. The Application will segfault (i.e. tail /var/log/messages)

Jun 9 10:11:14 IT040035 kernel: [ 906.571706] soffice.bin[1888]:
segfault at 2ae05e9 ip 02ae05e9 sp b356c1a0 error 4 in
libsvxli.so[2b82000+31a000]

Notes

A. If the steps are repeated without Step 3 then the fault does not occur.
B. It should be possible to dismiss the gnome-screenshot dialog after an image
is copied to the clipboard. There doesn't appear to be any other way to do so
without clicking "Cancel" (the only other options are Save and Help). I would
therefore argue that "Copy to Clipboard" followed by "Cancel" is a legitimate
use.

(Suggestion: Why not change "Cancel" to "Close" after "Copy to
Clipboard" is used - this would be more intuitive.) At the very least,
the image should not be freed on the clipboard (which is what I suspect
is happening here).

C. I suspect that this should be forwarded upstream - if someone on the
Ubuntu team could first please check and confirm this issue then I would
be happy to do so.

[Bug 591490] [NEW] power-applet has no "on battery" tab after start

2010-06-08 Thread SirBlack
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Hello,
I experience a strange bug on my notebook, since I upgraded to 10.04 amd64.
When I boot up, the Power-Applet does not recognize the battery. No "On
battery" tab is shown. The Applet always shows the "On AC" Symbol. The notebook
also does not recognize when the battery reaches a critical level. The notebook
shuts down hard. If I log out and log back in, the battery Applet works like it
is supposed to. It shows the current battery stage and offers the "on battery"
tab to change the preferences.

It also helps to unplug the Battery, while connected to the AC. Once the
battery is plugged in it is recognized and everything works fine.
I have checked whether this is an ACPI Problem. But "cat
/proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/info" always shows the correct informations.

If you need further information, I will be happy to provide them.
I hope you can help me..

Thanks.

[Bug 591492] [NEW] Cannot prepend user-defined dir to XDG_CONFIG_DIRS

2010-06-08 Thread Daniel Richard G.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

This is a wishlist item, filed against gdm 2.30.0-0ubuntu5 in Ubuntu
Lucid.

I use the Xubuntu desktop. XDG_CONFIG_DIRS is set in /etc/X11/Xsession.d
/60xdg_path-on-session (a file provided by gdm) to "/etc/xdg/xdg-
xubuntu:/etc/xdg" (if I haven't set X_D_G myself beforehand).

What I want to do, however, is set it to something like "$HOME/.my-
xdg:/etc/xdg/xdg-xubuntu:/etc/xdg". That is, I want to prepend my own
directory to the variable. (The idea is to start with my preferred
default settings with an empty ~/.config directory, when I'm starting a
brand-new user account. I do this at every new Ubuntu release, and it's
less work to hand-maintain some cut-down config files in ~/.my-xdg/ than
to go through all the GUI widgets necessary to set my desired settings
every six months.)

The problem is that, short of using your own ~/.xsession file, there is
no way to do this. You can't set/tweak X_D_G accordingly in ~/.profile
or ~/.xsessionrc, because those are read before 60xdg_path-on-session.
And you can't change what 60xdg_path-on-session does, unconditionally
adding the /etc/xdg/... directory as the very first element.

This makes it basically infeasible for a user to take advantage of a
very useful aspect of the XDG Base Directory system.

Thanks.

[Bug 3294] Re: Mouse cursor gets stuck in "drag and drop" mode. Keyboard input dies.

2010-06-08 Thread ric
Happens to me when using Empathy 2.30.1 on Lucid... it's really killing
me :( if u click by mistake and drag (often happens on touchpad...) the
mouse stays in the 'dragging mode' and the keyboard dies...

Ctrl+F_ works sometimes - when that happens i can "sudo /etc/init.d/gdm
restart"

But then i lose what i was doing :/ The compiz shortcuts still work
before doing that. Nothing else does.

Other times that dies completely and i have to just hold the power
button :'(

Happy to provide more info if needed.

[Bug 471878] Re: empathy cannot connect to msn accounts in karmic

2010-06-08 Thread Marco PE1NZJ
It looks so,
Before upgrading from 9.1 I didn´t have problems.
After upgrading I wasn´t able to connect.
Altough empathy shows it is connected the information displayed is not correct
and others won´t see me online.
Pidgin doesn´t have this problem so it looks like empathy is having an issue.

[Bug 442417] Re: "Text Editor" changed to "gedit Text Editor" in Applications->Accessories

2010-06-08 Thread Tormod Volden
I believe the bug in gedit is that it calls itself "gedit Text Editor" and not
"Text Editor" (in Ubuntu). I don't know if that should be done in bug 421221
(which has the usual amount of blame-gaming) but that bug does not have a
"gedit (Ubuntu)" task open.
I understand that upstream as authors of the app would like to use the full
name, but it does not belong in the Ubuntu menu.

Just the progress dialog. I can open another window and navigate thru.
That is how I got the 2 download streams in the attached jpg.

In both cases, it gets certain number of files and then stalls. If I try

(just files), everything works great. Downloads all files without any
problems.

Re: [Bug 18572] Re: modem_applet: waitpid()'s return value causes wedging.

2010-06-08 Thread Ralph Corderoy

I've obtained gnome-applets_2.30.0.orig.tar.gz and
gnome-applets_2.30.0-0ubuntu2.diff which I think are 10.04's. The
original code is as above when I opened the bug although the line
numbers are slightly different. The diff doesn't change them in any
way. 12_modem_applet_waitpid_fix.patch still applies OK with an offset
of -15 lines.

So the problem remains in the code. My concern over the patch remains,
detailed in #3 above. waitpid() is clearly being wrongly used. That
can be fixed without further test results. Then the underlying problem
may come to light once the code processes waitpid's response properly.

[Bug 588296] Re: evolution doesn't send embebed images / pictures

2010-06-08 Thread Jose M . Albarrán
Hi, Pedro

Now I'm not able to reproduce it, but it happened in 2 different
machines. Both machines have been update to Lucid from Karmic recently.

To solve the problem, I was seeking in bug database, and I found a
similar bug

https://bugs.launchpad.net/gtk/+bug/445435

In this bug, the user solves the problem changing the theme.

Then I change my theme to ClearLook, and it begins to work. Now I change
the theme to original Ambiance or Radiance, but I cannot reproduce the
bug again.

Maybe something in relation with upgrade to Lucid + default them
generates an error handling images?

[Bug 444500] Re: smb shares listed twice

2010-06-08 Thread Alecz20
I have two shares mounted in /etc/fstab:

//server/alex /home/alex-server cifs
users,credentials=/home/alex/.smbcredentials,user=alex,iocharset=utf8,file_mode=0700,dir_mode=0700,uid=alex,gid=alex,auto

//server/server /home/server cifs
users,credentials=/home/alex/.smbcredentials,user=alex,iocharset=utf8,file_mode=0775,dir_mode=0775,uid=alex,gid=alex,auto

Regardless of the order or the names the share on //server/alex appears twice
in the removable devices, and if it does not appear at boot-up , it will
generate the error message posted in Comment #2.

After the error message, that share will be duplicated.

If I unmount, and re-mount, the share is not duplicated, but again,
after a few minutes, the error appears, and the duplicate appears with
it.

I hope this will help solve the bug, since I saw this occurring on a few
systems already.

[Bug 289971] Re: 4-in-a-row Ctrl+N imidiately after player wins works strange

2010-06-08 Thread Teej
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately I am unable to reproduce this in Maverick
with version 2.31.3-0ubuntu1. Can you test this with the Live CD of the
development release (Maverick Meerkat)? You can find out more about the
development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/. Thanks again and
we appreciate your help.

[Bug 467668] Re: [regression-release] Neither compiz nor metacity nor nautilus are run at start

2010-06-08 Thread Rob S
@Leo
It has happened a second time, where logging off and on seem to fix it again.

If you log off and on, would it then be in the .xsession-errors.old?

If so, then there are a number of things going on and I'm not sure how
to really debug things. I'm getting this message:

Starting gtk-window-decorator
Unable to find a synaptics device.
Initializing nautilus-gdu extension
I/O warning : failed to load external entity
"/home/rob/.compiz/session/10ffdfc3255105ca911276025827747610011170029"

However, when I logout then on I get this message:

Starting gtk-window-decorator
I/O warning : failed to load external entity
"/home/rob/.compiz/session/10431175d07a8ea0c612760258753828890017080029"

So I'm not exactly sure if it's related. :s

[Bug 462419] Re: evince apparmor profile prevents movies from opening

2010-06-08 Thread Jamie Strandboge
At this time AppArmor does not support per-user profiles, but this is a
desired feature. If there are bugs in the profile (gmplayer was
mentioned), these bugs need to be filed in Launchpad so that they can be
corrected. Since this bug was not already reported, I have done so in
bug #591421 and already committed a fix for it.

Adrian et al, the philosophy behind apparmor profiles in Ubuntu is to
have the profiles just work in default and common configurations and not
have the user have to worry about them generally. As mentioned, if there
are specific examples of things that should be added to the profile,
please file a bug so a developer can fix it.

Adrian, removing the apparmor package is not recommended. There are many
profiles protecting you system that are not causing you any trouble. If the
evince profile is causing you problems, then you may simply disable it by
performing:
$ sudo touch /etc/apparmor.d/disable/usr.bin.evince

Thanks for reporting this to us. Can you try running the affected games
from the terminal. Try both the name on its own and with the full path,
i.e. "swell-foop" and "/usr/games/swell-foop". Also can you tell us what
the menu entry shows by right clicking Applications > Edit Menus, then
find the game under the Games section, then click properties and it will
show the full path. Thank you.

[Bug 591418] Re: gnome-power-manager fails to control LCD brightness, while FN keys work normally (Toshiba satellite A210P)

2010-06-08 Thread Cabalbl4

  Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Toshiba satellite A210P with ATI graphic card, running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
kernel 2.6.31-10-rt (kernel 2.6.32 also affected).
  issue in gnome-power-manager 2.30.0-0ubuntu1
After installing omnibook module (for bluetooth) and proprietary ATI driver
gnome-power-manager cannot read and change LCD brightness. The applet slider is
stuck at the upper position. Brightness can only be changed by pressing Fn
keys. In karmic, everything worked fine.

The keys can be disabled by modprobe -r video. However, the situation with
g-p-m remains.
Blacklisting omnibook did not solve the issue.

  cat /proc/acpi/video/VGA/LCD/brightness
- returns:

  levels: 0 10 20 30 40 50 60 70
  current: 70
